(Edited because I managed to confuzzle two different objectives. Good thing someone caught on )

Make a hotkey as follows, but without the parentheses ofc.

/target (your name)
/pause 5 (to allow for lag)
/cast # (the slot with your group spell)
/pause 10
/cast # (this second cast will only happen if the first fizzles)

Make one for each group spell you cast, and set it up so that the spell gem you use for group heals in your combat setup corresponds to the group buff you always have to cast, so the HEAL GROUP-hotkey can double as BUFF GROUP1.

I'd use /tar yourname instead of /assist g as, MA wil rarely have group members targetted, although I guess it doesn't matter, as long it's not non-group member PC, and/or you don't have /tgb on (but I always have /tgb on tgb = target group buff, and allows you to cast group buffs on groups other than your group).

Also, can put the pauses at the beginning of the previous lines, followed by a comma (,), to get more lines / macro.

As an example, to save a few lines on Whitman's example:
/pause 5,/assist g
/pause 10,/cast #
/cast #

**** EDIT ****
You might want to look at this Wiki page on Macros

What about linking AAs to hot keys? I have tried /doability and /activate ability but get funky messages when it I try it out.

It's /alt activate ## and use /alt list to see the numbers for the AAs, but warning you should turn /log on, and then load the log file, as the list will be huge, with all the AAs available to that toon, not just the purchased ones.

EDIT: Here's an older list of the numbers:
