Dinged 55 on my main (chanter) last night and got my new pet!!!

I have 2 AA's and not sure whether to go for my 3rd or just grind to level 60. Just depends on my mood, I guess.

Do toons stay in Dulak's Harbor for much longer? I can solo most of the boats and most stuff (on harder boats) is still Dk Blue but I long for more adventurous expeditions.

The letter that popped up on the screen mentioned some zone located in the middle of The Overthere. I thought you needed a key for that zone (Chardok?).

Where would you go?

P.S. Looted my first ever blue diamond last night! Sold it promptly to a vendor for 283 plat! Thats the highest amount sold to date minus bazaar stuff.

the zone in the ot is charassis(sp) or howling stones. you are correct in thinking you require a key. the quest is here https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=682

A few old guildies recently returned to EQ, both rangers, both were level 57.

We pl'd them to 60 simply so they could see content and group with the rest of us.

From 60, you have all your disciplines, which although not important for many classes is for warriors, rangers and others. You can join in Don and Dod missions. You gain a particular level of buffs at 60 and can also accept higher level (up to 70) buffs. With clerics you can cast the level 60 Aegolism over the level 45 Temp and you can receive conviction from level 60.

I would advise levelling to 60 for your buffs and available content, its all fun Smiley: smile

Chanter would not need an OT hammer. You may not want to ruin your OT faction in any case if you are a Dark Elf, or Gnome, since some of your 50-sh spells are sold in OT and FV. Again, not that much problem for a chanter to go to FV in illusion form if your OT faction is trashed, but my DE likes being able to run by the outpost un-invised and not worry about aggro from wandering dragoons.

The other place you can trash OT faction is Karnor's Castle. Curiuosly though, our guild (well 5 of us anway, hehe) took out the real Venril Sather and we got NO FACTION hits.

If you want something different, but still relatively safe, invis up and move to Nadox at the zone intrance to the mines. There are 6 shrine bruisers spaced far enough apart for easy single pulls and about 14 more inside the building.

Get used to those and you can start moving deeper and deeper into nadox for higher level mobs.

Two thoughts on the OT hammer for chanters - yes, you do want it; it's convenient to be able to bind near your hunting zone for a quick gate and retry (or death and retry) while still having an easy way to get back to pok. On the other hand, don't give a thought to ruining your OT faction as a chanter. You don't have to do any of the annoying factioning that most other classes do for this quest (bards and necros can ignore OT faction as well, for the same reason). The reason you don't care about faction for this quest is that you can simply charm the turnin mob (instant ally faction with said mob for charmer) and toss him a jade (bought in jewelry stores for about 5 plat). Bingo, free OT hammer.

Now, to use this hammer as a chanter - get your dex buffed up and slow yourself (more procs per swing), then duel someone in your party or borrow the backside of someone else's mob. With slow on and 255+ dex, it only takes a couple of swings to proc (quick tip - if you're in a situation where you're trying to gate anyway, use the bandolier to swap in the OT hammer and hit attack as you start casting; it's really nice to get your gate interrupted and still end up landing safe, albeit in OT - a quick uninterrupted gate gets you back to your target zone).

When the hammer procs, it lands you on the deck of one of the ships at the dock in OT. In front of you will be a beta neutral skelly that will not agro you - he's for a quest turn in. There's nothing else in range that will agro you. If you're KOS in OT, just cast levitate on yourself, turn around and head over the water to the POK stone. A word of warning - when you land, right in front of you is a hole in the deck of the boat; there's no direct way out of this hole except gating, so if you're a non-gating class and end up in this hole, you'll end up needing to agro one of the nearby mobs to re-proc your hammer. If you re-proc the hammer, this will get you back on the deck of the boat, but will not reset the zone agro - you need to get out of there before your mob tells everyone around to beat you.

Anyway, hope this little tip helped - go ahead and get your Charasis key, it's a fun zone, and good xp for your level range. Get your OT hammer too, since you're above 50 and it'll proc for you now - just be careful, as the mob you need to charm is fairly magic resistant; as a chanter I would see about bringing along a tank type to hold agro while you slow, root, and MR debuff him before attempting charming.

Nadox is a fun zone. And you even get some loot too so it's well worth going there. Also old sebillis is a nice place but you do have to quest for the key

Being a chanter and KoS in OT wouldn't be a problem, would it?

They get illusions, and warmth, and all of those goodies. I could be terribly wrong, just thought i'd point it out to anybody who might have overlooked it.

At level 54, I've been spending my soloing time in the Torgiran Mines and the Hole. I'd head to Dranik's Scar in a heartbeat, but I don't yet have that expansion (OoW).

I'm a level 56 Paladin and have been spending a lot of time in Howling Stones. It is currently a hot zone and the XP is great! The undead is a bonus for a Paladin as well. I earned 5 AAs there in the past 2 weeks. I can't do too much solo there but duoing is ok. For soloing, I've been going to Velketor's Labyrinth. I'm getting 1% AA XP per kill and some nice spells drop there. Good luck! Smiley: smile

Sorry Neolith, using that hammer for a gater seems a tad tedious, especially if you ruined OT faction. And my chanter did get the hammer for kicks, turned in some braids and just cast alliance on skelly to raise faction to amiable (skelly was too high a level to charm at the time).

I like Charasis though, and I have two characters keyyed for it, just not my DE chanter nor my Gnome (evil) cleric.

No spells are sold in The Overthere or Firiona Vie that are not sold in the Abysmal Sea. Wreck away said faction.

You need to be 61, not 60, for Omens Buffs ands Heal Over Time spells (which are beneficial spells with a duration) to land.

Edit: Bah, my entire guild is KoS (we h8 Venril Sathir it seems).. you just need Lev or DMF and run out over the water, around the wall to the book. Might even be the shorter route.

I will admit the use is limited at the higher levels, but it is handy. These days, it's primarily there for the oh crud port; it's saved me numerous rezes that would have been necessary, had the port not procced while I was trying to channel a gate through situations I shouldn't have put myself in in the first place <G>. With the bandolier function now in game, I would say it has upped my survival rate by about 10-15%; not much, but significant.

However, there are often times when I'm looking for a specific mob to be up, or farming in sebilis or chardok, where its nice to be bound right outside the zone you need and still be able to get back to civilization some time this year. Like many other things in this game, the tool is only useful at times. All I was saying is that the hammer is not much of a reason to hold back on changing your OT faction when your class in specific has easy access to the hammer regardless of faction.

The OT Hammer is a must have for non gating characters even at lv 70. Especially if you do not have access to the Bin Laden Concerto or whatever it is called from raiding PoP.

The Binden Concertina is what you're thinking of.

https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=17786

It should be noted that this is a three stage quest requiring rare drops from pretty much all of pop, and even the third stage of this quest uses up a shammy made component "Quintescence of Knowledge" that costs about 125pp to make.

Realistically, the concertina isn't worth doing in today's game. You can get exactly the same gate, requiring exactly the same shammy component from a mage summoned "talisman of return". The stats were decent at the time, but a much better necklace is the common drop from the Fairy monster mission that people are doing non-stop these days.

All told, charming a turn in mob, or killing 80-100 L30ish mobs for the Berserker whips for faction to get the OT hammer is a hell of a lot more realistic. If you're rich enough that you'd consider using the concertina over the hammer, bite the bullet and pay a shammy to make up some gate potions, or port potions for a little bit less money (gate you to a specific zone, cast slower, but only cost about 2/3 as much to make).
