What is the deal here? From things I have read, it seems that certain zones are made hotspots for exp, but these zones change over time. Does anyone know where I can find out which zones are exp hotspots now?

4/12/05 New Hot Spots
The Warrens
Netherbian Lair
Echo Caverns
The Scarlet Desert
The Tower of Frozen Shadow
The Hole
The Grey
Howling Stones
The Halls of Betrayal (Chardok B)

They don't change to often.

Hot spots are certain zones that have a slight EXP bonus in them. They are designed to attract people to low population zones or at least get some people out and around the world of Norrath.

There is a thread somewhere down the forum that has a current zone list.

SOE used to change the bonus zones around every month or so. However, the current bonus zones have been the same for about 4 or 5 months.

Welcome back!

Just as a footnote, I have to say that Echo Caverns is an odd one for Sony to have chosen. The exp there was always good, and it's such a cramped zone that there are only a few "camp" spots. I've tried going in there with my shaman, and the place is always barren of things to kill, and there will be about 12 players in the zone. The only spot I've found consistantly open is down at the elevator, and there's only like 4 underbulks there, and the respawn is very slow.

When you say they have a slight EXP bonus, is it noticeable? Is it worthwhile making the effort to hunt in these zones?

I agree that some of their choices for hot spots seems rather odd. I've also noticed that xp in the Grey is still bad even as a hot spot. Normally this is one of only two zones in the game that has a xp penalty.

It IS noticeable, however, generally there are quite busy zones and camps can be hard to come by.

It's noticable enough that, all things being equal, you may as well go to the Warrens instead of Befallen or Blackburrow. I think Echo Caverns and maybe Netherbian are the only ones that get "camped out" -- There's enough mobs in Scarlet Desert for everyone and ToFS, ChardokB, Howling Stones, etc remain more or less empty (aside from a few soloing necros in HS).

Of course, this all depends on your sever population. On a low pop server like FV, it may well be that even Echo is abandoned.

And yes, xp in the Grey still sucks. I took my SK there to try out the Shissar bane on her Greenmist and the bar barely budged after multiple solo kills.

I don't know, I took my druid over to The Grey as well (mostly to see if any named were up on track that I could farm) and he's level 53. After killing a couple of the golems around the temple and 4 or 5 of the shissars I had gotten 2 or 3 blue bubbles, so not too bad.

Yeah, most of the hot spots are pretty empty as Joph said. The only one I haven't at least poked my head into since I been back is Chardok B.

The night before last, at lvl 56, I killed about 6-8 Shissar around the temple and saw maybe two ticks of xp. Spiders in Velk's last night were much better solo experience and easier fights, too.

I go to ChardokB quite often, and it's almost always empty. Sshhhh ... I like it that way.

(Povar sever anyway)

I agree with Chardok B being good xp and usually empty. You almost need to NOT be KoS to the Sarnaks to get there (or have a mage CoH you to the entrance).

HS you need a key which not everyone is keen to get.

I have seen The Hole crowded at various times, empty others.

Echo is ok for cetain levels if you can get a camp. I went from 29 to 30 solo in 115 minutes (one temp duration) doing Needlites for example.

EXP in the Warrens is silly right now. I played around last night with a druid and had no problem getting a few levels over a course of an hour.

One thing I noticed is that the Mana potions are incredible at less then level 10. I was nuking the heck out of everything and hardly wasted 10% mana. The healing potions are a bit weak though but I am not complaining.

Load up with some mana potions and head down there!!

Mostly teens but the boss mobs and others in deep would likely still give you xp into the low twenties. You just have to be careful of getting greeny swarmed if you go in after them.

At twenty if you're looking for quick xp I would hit the tunnels of PC or head into Netherbian Liar.

Mid 20's depending on class. Jonwin was there at 30. The King, High Shaman, Muglewump, Cave Bear and at times the Bat Lord were DB and they are on hour or so timer. The huntlord was LB.

I was getting a bit bored of the place by 20. Taco and I were taking out the names for a bit, then headed out to Stonebrunt. Not bad exp there either, but as soon as they returned Mistmore to it's original state I headed straight there and never looked back.

Echo Caverns has 3 (or 4?) different entrances with NPCs up to lv 61. Not sure if the quest NPC and guildmasters are killable for exp though.

General Jared Blaystich is level 55 and his guards are level 46 and make for some good strategic xping. He drops a very nice twink sword too.
