if you want pp not exp you can also kill cats in the karanas for the pelts.
Fear kiting Mammoths in Everfrost hands down. You get 10 plat off each tusk, and sometimes the same from the Mammoth meat (check Bazaar before you sell to a vendor!).
With tracking, Spirit of Wolf and Panic Animal, you're set for at least five fun and fast levels. Remember that Fear Kiting is your great opportunity to safely work on all your weapon skills, 1HS, 2HS, 1HB, 2HB. Working weapon skills obviously makes for slower kills, but you'll love it later that you don't have to start from scratch.
Plus, being in Everfrost puts you near the Wayfarer's camp, so you can travel all over the world very fast, if a group comes up - or do LDoN's even, if you can find a group for that.

30 is too high for the EF mammoths.
They will be light blue and green with maybe the odd dark blue. I used to take rangers there at 22 when they get Panic Animal. At that level the mammoths are delightfully yellow and red and would indeed take you a good 5 levels through to high 20's before the exp gain was minimal and you were sick of the sight of hairy *****
I found Crystal Caverns very good for level 30 and the loot was good too. Snare is essential of course.
