Hi,

I had my first experience as MH to a raid recently. As a 50 lvl Cleric, it wouldn’t ordinarily be my responsibility, but our MH went down with flu in the middle of the raid, so… I couldn’t believe how fast our MT went down when we reached the named in GE. With huge help from another cleric and a druid we kept our backup MT alive and did get the loot, but I couldn’t believe how different healing as MH in a raid was compared to any other group I have ever healed.

Question is, I have never seen any write-up on how to raid heal. Can anyone dig up a reference to the care and feeding of raid clerics?

Much Thanks

Reewyn

It's completly dependent on the mob. A strong guild against a serious raid mob will set a few clerics into a CH rotation. 1 or 2 clerics will spam quick heals on the MT while another 1 or 2 will watch the rest of the groups. My Dru has taken the place of a cleric in many raid situations without much of a problem so when enough clerics aren't present back-up healers can work.

The Ch chain is vital when dealing with serious raid mobs. Having a CH land on the MT every 4-7 seconds with quick heals in between is usually enough to keep almost any MT alive.

But again, it all depends on the mob.

hah! you haven't been on any really serious raids...

Think about 2 heal chiain of 10 cleric, druids, shamans, and pallys landing 10,000 points of healing every second, for 10 minutes. That is an awsome mana pool, and one very beat down Tank.

I havn't been on any seriously hard core raids your right, but the healing chain is important none the less.

higher end content tends not to use ch chains heavily anymore.

there is not a single real raid where shamans are put in the chain.

for that matter, it doesnt make sense to put a shaman in a ch chain at any level of content anyhow.

As JC pointed out in his first post. Its depends on the mob. Also take into consideration the number of players in classes. If there happens to be a lot of shammys and few druids, a Shaman can be in a heal chain. There is no set-in-stone rule.

Me thinks Cza is on a short leash these days. You need to get out more, buddy.

don't have numbers offhand, but quies is certainly more efficient than a ch, and depending on your focii/aa, blast shammy heal > shammy ch.

but efficiency isn't the largest problem, shaman ches just don't heal enough. 2k just isn't enough to take a spot in the heal chain on any encounter where you actually need a heal chain.

It's a sad day for any guild when it has a shaman on the chain...........

There is a myriad of factors that depends on how you heal during a raid:

-how well equipped and AA'd is your main tank (even in uber guilds a change in the main tank can mean a world of difference)?
-how hard does the mob hit, and how does the mob hit (flurry, ae rampage, etc.)?
-how many clerics do you have?
-how many druids do you have (for spot heals or even main healing)?
-how many paladins do you have (for spot heals)?
-how long is the fight expected to take?
-are there adds that will be off-tanked and thus require healers?
-will the rampage tank require dedicated healers?
-does the mob have an AE, and how will you handle it?

There are some mobs that turn into an 45-60 mins to kill (Xegony when PoP came out). Other mobs are an all out zerg attack that need to die quickly and will be a 5 minute fight. Cheal chains are still used for many mobs, but you need to be able to alter your healing based on the mob. There is no one set rule on how to heal.

Methins shamen are better used topping people's health bars instead of being in a chain.

Sorry to pull an off topic nob question… But
If a Shaman is not good for healing in a Raid, what role do they fill? My first guess would be buffs. I’m not sure there pets would help much, but I don’t know much if anything about Raids.

Thanks for your continuing education of my nob questions lol

I raided a lot with my cleric back in the day. Never got to any real high-end content, but seen plenty of action.

Raid healing is pretty intriguing. We usually had a dozen clerics and half that of druids and shamen in a separate chat channel, and then another separate channel just for the CHeal rotation. Druids can CHeal in a pinch, or just patch heal with the shamen. Shamens' job in raids include buffing, debuffing/slowing and light healing.

The CHeal - Complete Heal chain - is a group of clerics who co-ordinate their heals so that a Complete Heal lands on the Main Tank in a regular interval of a few seconds. I've been in a 4-cleric chain heal every 6 seconds, and a 10-cleric chain heal every 4 seconds. It's pretty flexible, depending on the amount of clerics you have and their mana. We would use chat macros for timers and calling the enxt healer in the rotation - something like: "Complete Heal being cast on Main Tank - next cleric name up in 5 seconds"
There would also be backup and extra healers available in case someone in the chain goes LOM, LD, gets summoned and killed, etc. as well as a bard and/or necros providing mana if necessary. An amusing part of this kind of healing is watching a tank's life bounce from 100% to 5% to 100% to 5% to 100%...

Yep. Shamans buff, debuff (includes slow), patch or ramp heal, and of course cure. They don't stack particularly well on most encounters - Rathe Council being a notable exception.

Extra shamen are needed on encounters that involve lots of adds that need to be dealt with; an encounter in Akheva I believe, was set up this way where a tank and a slower was needed for each of four mobs around the boss.

Shamans?

That just sounds weird, for some reason. Not like humans...

Ok so I'm a bit screwy. Like you didn't already know that! Smiley: lol

Are you bowing down to my L33t dictionary skillz, or to the hot chick in my avi?

The only reason I even know that they had the plural there was because I had to look it up before... I did the same thing as you and used "shamen", much to the chagrin of one of my shaman friends, who proceeded to grill me about the correct way to say/spell it...
