Best solo classFollow

What's the best solo class to play? I'd like to start a new character that won't get boring fast. Spells are good to have, but then again nothing beats walking up and hacking something to death.

What is the best solo class depends upon whats important to you:

- fast leveling
- ease of travel
- soloing well even past 50 (or 60)
- tradeskilling without needing an alt
- low downtime for medding/recovering

and the *boring* thing -I guess it depends many hours you play cause every class gets boring if soloed for 40 hours a week ;-)

Personally I would take a pet class with gate or port which wouldn't leave much options to me....

I asked again because I thought there would be a few different answers this time around. But generally I am lazy.

Most classes can solo to some extent.

The most versitile solo classes are Shaman and Beastlords they can solo anything anyother class can solo and solo things the other classes can't solo. So i guess you could say they are the best but they wont get exp as fast as say a necro bard or wizard.

Necros can solo for exp really quickly and wont run out of mana(and if you do jsut FD.....) they can solo any undead mob(just about) and any kiteable mob. They will have problems with hard hitting mobs that summon and aren't undead though due to lack of slow(these are the mobs beastlords and shaman can solo that no other class can).

Bards...Well they can get you the fastest exp you have ever seen and they are really fun plus they can charm and mez a good bard can do a lot....but they are a bit harder to play.

Chanters yeah a chanter with a charmed pet is near unstopable they are the one exception to the mobs that I was talking about earlier with beastlords and shaman(those 3 classes ar the only ones I have seen solo BoT named mobs) but if charm breaks you're dead plus this is really hard to do but if you can do it then there isn't much you can't do.

Wizards can solo well with root/nuking and quad kiting(tables anyone >_>) but summoning mobs will own you later on(you can take some with your shield spells but again its hard and you'll need to rely on stun a lot).

Druids same as wizards but they can also root rot and heal but they can't quad kite as well though they can charm animals.

Rangers can solo a decent amount of things but it will be harder at higher levels to solo high lvl mobs(though not impossible).

There are other classes that solo well but those are the most common. All in all I'd say a shaman or beastlord would be the "best" overall soloer.

Bards are in a catergory all of their own at higher levels, but they require quite a bit of work to play; judging by your posts, (and this isn't neccessarially meant to be an insult) you'd have about a 0 chance of succeeding with and liking a bard.

Necros and Shamans are top tier (sans bards); Necros can kite or fear-kite anything but are very effective against undead mobs, having very good pets and the ability to slow the undead mob equal to or more than a Shaman can. Shamans can either kite like Necros do or just drop a Slow on the mob and have their pet tank/beat.

Beastlords plug in slightly below Shamans, with similar abilities but more tankage.

Rangers are pretty good up until about 53 (Jaggedpine, Dawnshroud will take you up nicely at later levels with Panic Animal) where the fear-pummeling kind of drys up, although there are still some places to go. They can root-shoot, but that's not very effective at all.

Druids are pretty effective, but they have a much harder time post-60 or so quad kiting.

I like hunting in places that have a variety of things to kill, not just undead. My necro is fun and all, but I'd like to explore other options. I started a druid, but got bored fast (maybe cuz it was the race I chose). I started a shaman and got bored fast too (again maybe the race). But a beastlord sounds interesting. But I love spell casting. Do they get alot of good spells?

Is a Rogue a good solo class to play? I hear they're only really good in a group. Rangers sound cool too. I gave up on my warrior because he got extremely boring. I grouped with people who ran out of mana too fast and I just died from the hits I was taking.

There was a nerf in the patch today which may have killed swarm kiting. Bards may have been unseated from the top spot.

Personally, I'd say that if you're leaning towards a beast, roll one up. They are one of the funnest classes to play and they still rock in the high end game.

Necros are vastly underrated I think. Seem to add a lot to groups as well as being able to solo well. Their getto mez is really nice when no chanter is around.

As far as best class for soloing, I would have said bard before today. Necro is (was?) right behind bards. Beast/chanter/shammie/mage are all right behind. Have tried all of those classes at one time or another and even though my main is a shammie, I would play a beast if they deleted the shammie class. Beasts are probably the easiest class to solo too, because adds are not instant death like they can be for a mage or sometimes a chanter.

AE kiting has been killed. We can still swarm kite, it's just not very efficient in the higher levels. Don't worry, it's a common mistake.

As far as rogues soloing... they CAN do it, but again, it's not very efficient. It requires specific gear and a little bit of luck (you really need your intimitation skill to work early on).

Rangers can solo animals well once they get panic animal (level 22 I think) and they CAN solo other things throughout their lives, just not very efficiently.

I would suggest you not look for "the best" solo class, but for a "good" solo class that you can solo with when you don't feel like grouping. SOE has made it pretty clear that they want to limit soloing as much as possible now. The bards just got hit with the AE nerf, and like Dirshan said, they aren't the top dogs anymore. That puts somebody else on the top of the list, as both the best soloers and the next most likely to be nerfed.

shaman/beast>necros for the single reason they both have slow....if necros had slow for any mob other than undead they would be by far the best solo class if not total class in the game.

You people are completely out of your minds. I have 7 toons and there in no way that anything you have said (save bards which has gone away now)is right. A druid is THE BEST soloer PERIOD. Necro comes close but the others on the list ... HAHAHA. Play toons and solo them before you post. I've played them all and I still bot my druid to keep all those other SOLOERS you listed alive and kicking. PLEASE, stop perpetuating myths

What race is your Druid? I had/have a halfling who got boring. Is there a beter race to play with, or is it mainly just preference?

LOL

Rogue is perhaps the absolute worst solo class in the entire game by a longshot. Sorry to burst your bubble Smiley: smile

I'll give you a cookie if you take you're druid to earth and solo him there like beasts and shaman do....I'll give you two cookies if your druid can solo BoT named like the classes you druid "BOTS" to keep them alive and kicking....And i'll igve you three cookies if you delete your EQ account and go play diablo.

What exactly did the patch do to nerf AE kiting?
#22 Sep 14 2004 at 11:58 AM Rating: Decent
Well as I have a druid as a main I would like to say druid. But that only works if you want to limit yourself to outdoor zones. Which you can do.

However, I would have to throw in with necros/bards(even without swarm kiting). Both totally rock at the higher levels.
#23 Sep 14 2004 at 12:03 PM Rating: Decent
bard PBs no longer effect moving targets.

You mean AE kiting, but that's besides the point Smiley: grin. To answer the AE kiting question, in short, if a mob wants to move when the damage is supposed to tick, they take no damage. There's some small details to that, but that's the gist. It kills AE kiting, but allows us to still use our AE slows, snares, debuffs, etc (most of our songs are combo songs, even our AE's).

Well the damage components no longer affect moving targets, the rest of the song still sticks. Leaving it still a viable option for crowd control.
