#1 Jul 24 2004 at 5:30 AM Rating: Decent
I heard the other day there was a way to get your foraged items in your inventory with out openning up the inventory screen. Was just wondering if this is true, and how would it be done. Is there a special commond for this or not .......

Yes there is.

To do this, first, make a hotkey for your forage ability. DO NOT simply drag the hotkey from your abilities window. In fact, if you have a hotbutton from your abilities window in your hotbutton screen, pick it up and "drop" it to get rid of it. You won't need it.

Now, type the following:

/hotbutton foraging

A hotbutton named "foraging" should appear on your mouse. Drop it in your hotbuttons window wherever you normally keep your forage button.

Now, open your Actions menu, and look at your abilities in the second tab. Figure out which of the 6 non-combat ability buttons is your usual forage button. They should be numbered like this--
1 2
3 4
5 6
--so if the one that says "forage" is the third one on the right, it is ability #6.

Now, right click on the "foraging" hotbutton you just made in your hotbuttons window, to open the screen where you edit the contents of the macro.

In the first line, type:
/doability #
--where you replace # with the number of the forage ability you just looked up in your options window. i.e. /doability 6 or /doability 3, etc.

In the second line, type:
/pause 10
(this will create a 1 second delay in the macro)

In the third line, type:
/autoinventory
(this will drop whatever you have foraged in the first open slot in your inventory or bags. Make sure you have plenty of food and drink stocked in your first bag, so that you aren't eating things you want to keep.)

Now, go into your Options window. Click on the tab that says "Keyboard" and then select "Macros" from the drop-down box.

Find the hotbutton that is your foraging hotbutton. Beside it, there should be two columns. The first is a number. The second is blanks.

Click in the SECOND column beside the hotbutton that is your foraging hotbutton on the list, and it will say "Press a Key"

Press your forward arrow button, or your left or right arrow button. Then close this window.

Now, every time you move forward (or turn left or right if you chose that instead) if your forage ability is refreshed, you will...

1) Automatically attempt to forage
2) Pause 1 second
3) Drop whatever you have foraged into your inventory.

Then, just go through your packs once in a while, destroy whatever you don't need, bank whatever you do need, and keep on foraging!

Good luck, hope this helps.

Thank you Ambrya. I followed Ambrya's advise and as a ranger, after that added a line for tracking. Oh, btw I have pause set to 3, which seems long enough.

I also have one for when not fighting that forages, autoinventories, tracks, and adds sneak (this can slow you NOT good for fighting)that I swap out.

Keeps all these skills maxed painlessly and lets you forage constantly. With the bazaar price of veggies at 10pp each now it is well worth it.

THANKS!!!!

I've never seen this explained SO clearly! Here I am, a lvl 65 Druid AND Ranger, both with maxed forage ability...and I never knew how to do this...ROFL.

Anyway, you just saved me a whole lot of looking at my inventory screen! :)

Am going to set this up on my Bard, but this will also let me format a hotkey for my Bard's & Rogue's Disarm Trap and Sense Trap since neither requires a trap anymore to advance the skill. It's nice of you to literall spell out how to do this, Sony has yet to be this informational on how to make hotbuttons, well at least not publically.

Dynamite Gozzaboom 65 Mage
Scorpella Dark'Stalker 54 Rake
Dynarian 39th Bard

Now I just need to learn how to link eqrankings to posts.

There is one fly on this birthday cake. If you have another character with a different action in the hotkey slot involved, it can get funny. I had a forage and auto-inventory set up for my druid, using slot 6 and tied to my up arrow key. But my froglok paladin had a Sit/Stand hotkey in slot 6. So when I switched to the froggie and tried to move forward, he'd first sit, then move. It was disconcerting. :)

Yes that part is annoying, I just turn it on and off on the options menu.

when you forage 2 items each forage, adding an additional /pause and then another /autoinventory - will put second item in inventory.

Well, in this case it was adding to the discussion in a good way.

Not sure if you could double forage in 2004... but either way the thread benefits from the addition.

I prefer new threads that cite the old, but google searches and such will put you to the old threads so I get how it happens. So I'll rate up Ostevez for the insight and politely request (mostly for your own sake so you don't get downrated) that you do create new threads to update info. This way the current readership is who is responding and modern patch changes are taken into account.

As far as a necroed thread record, time continues to pass so unless someone purposely necros all of page 1 of the forums the potential year-span gap is just going to grow.

Lol. Yeah. Long necro. Makes one wonder how he stumbled upon the original thread to update it (I'll take "seach" for 500 Alex).

I'll also add a bit of caution to this (or anything you macro to a commonly used key), be aware that the /autoinventory command has nothing directly to do with foraging. It will take whatever is on your cursor and dump it into inventory regardless of how it got there. So if you pick something up and hold it on your cursor for some reason, and then hit move forward, you might not realize why it's disappearing from your cursor and appearing in your inventory. The only thing I can think of where this might get you is the occasional keyed door where you hold the key on your cursor and click the mouse (or the "u" button) to open something. I can totally see someone doing that, getting the "that object is too far away" message, moving forward, and going "wth?" when their key disappears.

That's a minor inconvenience which, I'm sure, is dwarfed by the benefits of autoforaging, but I figured I'm mention it just to save the sanity of those who might run into this and not realize why it's happening.
