How to report scumware advertisementsFollow

The ad servers that are used at this site occasionally try to slip some scumware ads through the cracks. Allakhazam and Illia are generally very good about removing scumware but since I imagine they usually run logged into the site, they don't see the bad ads until someone points them out. I try to get them when I see them, but recently I haven't had a chance to go looking as much. So hopefully those of you that read this can help out.

Pop up advertisements on the allakhazam site load from the banner ads up at the top (or sides of some pages). If you are a premium member, these banners do not appear, so you should not be seeing any pop up ads while logged in. If you do, run www.lavasoftusa.com 's ad-aware

A scumware popup is one that either tries to load software from the popup, or contains a link to a file containing scumware. Please only post ads containing scumware. Others may be annoying, but should not be damaging. Examples of scumware include weatherbug, gator, alexia, anything that pops up a "would you like to install this free software from... Yes/No?" window.

When you see a pop up ad containing scumware load, here is what to do:

1. Create a new thread in the forum system feedback forum (https://everquest.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=3) with the subject "The Popoupnamegoeshere pop up is loading" where popupnamegoeshere is the name of the popup. Inside, please include the following. The URL of the banner advertisements on the page (right click on banner, go to properties), the URL of the popup it loaded if you know how to get it, a description of the popup, and a description of the banners.

2. Now, make a new post inside that thread. View the source of the allakhazam page that loaded the popup, and copy the entire source into the new post. This will include the code that loaded the ad in question. if it won't fit, e-mail it to allakhazam@allakhazam.com and illia@allakhazam.com in an e-mail with the subject again of "The Popoupnamegoeshere pop up is loading"

3. Do the same to the pop up ad, and post it in a new post as well.

Please note: any complaints about the pop up ads in general will be ignored. this is about the scumware ones only. I don't like ads either, but this isn't the place for it. Statrt your own thread about it if you want. thanks
