Just note that you need the ones that say "A collector's" on them. The regular ones don't work.

Is the reward worth the quest?

So precious little point giving this quest to a level 5. I imagine the special drops will be long gone before I can kill spectres at the Fear portal.

#12 Mar 16 2004 at 6:34 PM Rating: Decent
There was a shark always swimming around the Seafury Island in OOT. At least there was when I used to camp the AC and seafuries.

So... An item with no stats, with a click effect that decreases stamina loss by one point? What exactly does that do anyway? If it shows up as a buff, that's worth something (although it's slow for a click effect). Hmmm...

Are all quests the same, got bag, but no cheat/hint sheet?
#15 Mar 16 2004 at 8:35 PM Rating: Decent
i think the staff just makes fireworks. not sure though since i don't have one myself.

I think I'll keep the bag for my bank slots :))

BTW: this anniversary thing is great for newbies too.

They get offered free food and drink, some ridiculously cheap stat drinks and a 10-slot bag that takes giant items (the weight of 10 wont really matter for toons who are still on cloth).

That spinning bottle is fun too and the doll and the coin will give them something to be puzzled about too - personally I hope these will be beneficially tradable to some NPCs later on ;-)

Can someone guess the lowest level you need to complete the quests. Some are newb zones but lguk should be tough. My level 25 got the quest and just wondered if she can possibly do it (and still be level 25).

Also, where is the fear portal in Feerrott, ran all over and didn't see specters?

Level could be an issue with the quest. By far, the toughest areas are LGuk and MM, with MM being the harder of those two. The idea is that any mob that can drop the "normal" version of the item can (and often does) drop the "collectors" version. In LGuk, pretty much any undead frog can drop a tounge, so you could simply hunt near the zoneline for them and eventually get a drop. Of course, I had to wander nearly to the Frenzy camp to find a "live" undead frog due to the numbers of folks doing this, but I think I got the collector drop on the second or third kill (which is about typical for the drop rate on these IMO).

Similarly, in SolA, I had to wander all the way to the king spawn area (know it well from many many hours keeping clerics company there). Not because of drop rate, but because the mobs were pretty much all dead. I figured since I could safely go pretty much anywhere in these zones, it made more sense for me to relocate deeper in and leave the zone areas for lower level folks.

MM is by *far* going to be the hardest for most folks. One thing that a lot of people don't realize (but I do since I actually did the ro armor quests back when they were worth doing) is that the gargs outside the main house do *not* drop granite. Therefore, they don't drop the collectors version either. Inside the house is going to be tough for anyone under level 50 (and probably take a small group of 50s to do in reasonable saftey). I ran into a level 53 SK getting his butt kicked outside the house and grouped up with him to help him out. He would have never gotten anything but death without that help, honestly (might have, but it would have been *realy* hard). We ended up going all the way through to the maid and butler rooms before we found gargs that dropped any granite (which is right, the farther into the house, the higher the drop rate for granite IIRC). You wont make that trip, even with a group at any level under 40. However, once you're deep enough in, the drop rate is frequent enough, that someone higher level (like me), might very well just let you come along. Lots of people were kinda feeling the spirit of the party so to speak. I saw a lot of folks giving away stuff and helping eachother out. I like this kind of even just for that...

The reef shark was super easy. Take the translocator. Walk out into the water. Look around. I killed two reef sharks in about 1 minute after arriving, and the second one had the fang on it. It was just that easy. The sharks were also by far the lowest level mob that dropped an item (one hit to kill both times).

What I'm curious about is the reward. There seem to be three varients of the staff (nagafen, trakanon, and solusek(?)). Does anyone know if the fireworks are different from each one? Can you do the quest multiple times and get all three? Is there a point to doing that (yes, I know it's just fireworks, but that's actually kinda fun...).

Spectres are in the tunnels to the fear portal behind a hidden wall in the SW corner of the zone.

Did the quest with 3 other members of my guild last night. We had great fun doing it ... especially zoning into the druid and wizard ports in tox not once but twice at night ... those skells don't stop!!! The staff is just a cute toy to cast fireworks but all in all a great time was had by all.

The Skeleton Commanders in Tox (we took out 3) twice dropped a nice ring and once an earring but I don't have the links for either sorry.

Lower Guk was a bit of a problem as we (a 46 wizard, 54 druid, 57 shammy (me) and a 65 SK) walked right into the Fabled .... the druid saw him first and he conned green ... before I knew what was going on she was down ... He conned green to me and was at 50% health ... now I have always paid more attention to AC as well as wisdom ... sic'd petpet on him .. started casting Bane of Nife ... 3 hits ... LOADING, PLEASE WAIT ... SK engaged when he saw what was going on ... before he knew what was what he was LOADING, PLEASE WAIT .. wizzy got outta the way ... rooted it and watched another group take him out. hehe

The Fabled mobs are not to be trifled with!

But back to topic ... do the quest with some friends for a nice break from the usual raid/grinding. Lots of laughs and some pretty sparklies!

I think that's part of the point -- to revisit old zones. Which makes the OoT one kind of weird to me. It's not like many people had mighty adventures in OoT so much as maybe they farmed sisters or seafuries. Befallen, Unrest or Najena would have made more sense. But whatever.

I got mine outside the house back by where the four wolves spawn (past the Dark Huntress). Two jeering gargoyles there and the second one dropped my granite. I killed two gargoyles in the canyons along the way without drops, but that doesn't mean much. I will say that a ranger in the guild griped that she had been camping the zone-in gargoyles for an hour with no drops and another person piped up that he walked into the house and it dropped on the spot.

My brave but rather dumb companions and I decided to attempt the Fabled King Trannix last night Smiley: rolleyes

We had been hunting for quest pieces in the PoS when our regular Monk (who had logged on late and went to do some "checking out" in SolB) sends a tell saying he needs a rez and some "help" with a mob Smiley: rolleyes

So we gather up a couple of friends, form a mini raid and head over. Nine of us in the 60's.

We got in found him, did the rez, conned Trannix, huh, blue con, no worries.

We buff up and get ready, now at this point some one shows a small spark of the smarts and says, "hey these fabled guys could be pretty hard, lets ask "an aquaintance" we had spotted on the run through, he's pretty uber, we might need him". Everyone thought that was a good idea, so we invite and uber 65 monk with 7000 odd HP joins us.

Uber monk says "you know this guy is pretty tough", "you need more room" (we were set up at the entrance to the kings room), so we move back down the ramp to a nice big clear area, our monk says to uber monk, "you had better pull" and so off he goes and pulls.

It was a good pull and a nice single Fabled King Trannix arives in camp. Uber monk was at half health and FD's. Our mighty warrior engages, he is dead before a single CH can land. Our monk drops before he can FD, uber monk is now at 30%, Celeni stupidly casts a fast heal on him.

The Fabled King Trannix takes immediate exception to this and casually walks over to Celeni and hits her for 1600 points just three times, that was all it took folks.

Iluien was simply standing nearby waiting for the MA to call engage, lol, but the Fabled King Trannix obviously had a dislike for wood elves and sauntered up to him and hit him three or four times for between 1400 and 1900 points and that was all she wrote.

Apparently he polished off our Chanter and other Druid in similar style, luckily our Cleric managed to escape and uber monk managed to stay FD long enough for the Fabled King Trannix to return to his supper, or what ever it was he was doing when we interupted him.

Our warrior said he was quadding him for 1900 points.

But I'm sure its just a matter of getting our tactics right Smiley: smile

PS... In case you feel like having a go, he opens up with rampage Smiley: smile
