just started a new ranger and was wondering if any of you experienced players might have some sort of idea as to how you can set up things so that you are able to keep the bows going constantly instead of having to hit a key every few seconds. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.

You need to go to the Rangers Glade for this. They have a sticky on the subject that covers it in detail.

Although, frankly I think it is about the last thing a new ranger would want to be concerning him/herself with.

You can setup auto archery with a gamepad, or you can use the program from eqhunters.com .

Even the class name is "ranger", don't worry about archery until level 59 with 40 or so AAs. Archery in everquest is nothing but a tool to agro a mob until then.

so basically until you reach lvl 59 and have 40+ AAs your a tool =p (your gonna get many more jokes like this all thru ur rangering career , probably a good idea to get used to it lol)

Archery is used for pulling only till you gain enough AAs for endless quiver.

Your damage output with them is minimal till then.

I would advise simply pulling with arrows and if no pulling, fire one arrow into each monster you fight. This should keep your skill up to reasonable levels for when you grind all those AAs Smiley: smile

The reward after 65 levels and grinding EQ/AM and crit AAs is discing and on average hitting for 1200 per arrow with crits up to 2200 and lows of 700, but you need to wait Smiley: wink

I gotta disagree a little with you here, Jennok. I have been playing my Ranger since 99, I have been using archery since level one. I'm not even past 60 with my ranger, and in fact only got enough AA's for endless quiver last week! At 46 I got my hands on a Tolans Darkwood Bracer, and never looked back. Fear kiting in DSP, Eastern Wastes etc, would not have been possible without root-n-shoot. In more recent experiences in LDoN groups, I have found that someone accidentally pulling say a 2-4 mob pull into a room, activating trueshot when the tank goes down and keeping mobs rooted I hit for 150 - 700 per shot (with haste, a fleeting quiver and having my dex maxed as I do) I deal out some pretty decent damage. even without my trueshot disc, if i need to keep a mob at bay and beat it down, I can do a pretty decent job at it. Dont call archery useless til you get endless quiver. I have saved many a bad pull or loss of our MT too many times in PoV plugging away at baddies to treat archery as trivial. Anyhow my 2 cents. Perhaps your experience is slightly different!

Have fun. it's only a game until you lose an eye!
