1) I have a human Paladin. She barely runs a tad faster than walking. Everybody is running by her. (Level 10) She's not encumbered, not in the least. Any ideas on what's going on? Or...how can I get her butt in gear?

2) Does this forum have a 'Search Engine'? I'm sure that some of these questions have been posted before and that the answers lay out there somewhere in the Cyberzone.

Everyone that is running past you has a spell buff called "spirit of Wolf" - A.K.A. SOW.

Either that or they have journeyman boots or something similiar that enables a faster running speed.

Could also be a bard who is playing a "speed" song which enables him and his party to run faster then usual.

Or they are above level 51 and have spent some "AA" points in Innate running ability. (This is something I personally have never even come close to doing as my highiest level toon is 34.)

There are many ways to run faster. As a low level Pally your best bet is to find someone who casts SOW (A druis or shaman over level 14 or so) and donate a few platinum pieces for there time. The buff should last apporx 30 minutes or so and you can knock yourself out in the mean time!

Good Luck

Check that you are running , there is a Run/Walk toggle on one of the panels - If this is currently saying 'Run' click it so that it says 'Walk'

[EDITED due to popular opinion, I heard that agi = a bit of speed when I started in 99 and went with it, oh well...link]

Besides getting somebody to cast SoW on you, you might also try Strafe-Running, where you hold down CTRL and alternate pressing the left and right movement buttons while at the same time moving forward by holding forward or putting on Autorun (Numlock), this can also be acomplished by holding right-click instead of CTRL. This sums up the two vectors of direction and allows you to move faster than if you just held forward. I have also heard unconfirmed rumors of jumping while moving helping as well.

A better explanation for Strafe-Running can be found here.

AGI has absolutly zero effect on base run speed.

ALL RACES AND CLASSES RUN AT EXACTLY THE SAME SPEED baring buffs, encumbrance, AA points, damage (low life).

if you are above 20-30% life remaining, and are not encoumbered, then a gnome will run just as fast as an ogre or any other race in between. to say otherwise is just showing how little you know about the game.

lost count how many times the devs ran contests to prove this exact point.

here is a list of some items/spells/AA/etc. that can and will effect the speed of a toon running around norrath:

1. SoW (spirit of the wolf) spell from sham, druid, ranger, BL. potion from sham.
2. SoE (spirit of eagle IIRC) spell from druid also has lev.
3. j-boots (journyman boots) royal pain in the **** quest that gives you clicky boots with just under SoW speed.
4. t-boots (tinkered boots) 5000p from gnome in solA or solB i forget were exactly to buy them. same effect and speed of j-boots.
5. RS AA (run speed) 1-3 give innate ability to run faster at all times, still effected by encumbrance, and low life. with gates expansion you can now push that to 5 IIRC, and that will take you to just about sow speed or a little faster. that you would have to ask someone with rs5.
6. Selo's (bard speed) fastest toon in the game is a bard with high level drum level 55+. these songs only effect the bard and his group.
7. horses and drogma(sp?) the lizards and horses you may see if you have that graphic effect on. they range in speed from just at run speed to up to just under selo's speed.
8. for pally and sk ONLYL their AA point steed. this steed is right at the speed cap, but only slightly under that of a bard, but not really enough to matter.

there are a few other items, spells, effects out there that will increase your speed for running, but AGI is not one of them.

This is where agility for once comes in, (iirc) additional agility up to 100 will allow you to run a bit faster, anything over that will not affect speed at all.

I have heard this rumor over time, and from the testing I have seen (from usenet) there is no validation to Agility altering your movement speed. As far as has been listed Agility only has effect on your Armor Class and to that extent the effect is extreamly nominal.
This is not to call you out or to say you are wrong, just supplying an oposing view, as I understand, on agility.

So far, what others have listed could be the probable cause. The only other thing I can see causing the symptoms you describe are latency / lag. Either with your video hardware, or just latency / lag with your connection to the server.

Good luck

Agility has absolutely no effect on run speed.

I two box one on cable and one on very bad dial up

the lag on dial up cuases that player to often break auto-follow becuase cable toon goes to far ahead on long runs

For a few PP you can by yourself a potion from a Shaman Blood of the Wolf IIRC, same a SoW.

Scrounge up a few PP and buy some 10 dose potions and then you can have SoW when ever you want it. Every Pally should carry a couple in her backpack Smiley: smile.

By the way you can also get invisibility and gate potions, something else you might consider worthwhile as a Pally.
