The following happened to me yesterday while I was on my way to PoK in Misty Thicket, and I now have some questions.

from apprehensively to threateningly in 30 seconds Smiley: confused

Targeted (NPC): Blixkin Entopop

[Sat Mar 06 20:02:37 2004] Right click on the NPC to consider him.
[Sat Mar 06 20:02:38 2004] Blixkin Entopop glares at you threateningly -- he appears to be quite formidable.
[Sat Mar 06 20:02:42 2004] Blixkin Entopop punches Bad for 7 points of damage.
[Sat Mar 06 20:02:42 2004] LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...
----------------------------

well, "Player Bad" was an Iksar... so for buffing him while in the vicinity of Blixkin, my faction got hit badly.

ok, how to improve it now is not the question, I can check the factions section here on alla.

but, what else can cause negative faction hits? ok, killing a person. but do I even suffer for things group members do? anything else?

thank you for your help. :)

The quick answer to your question about group members actions impacting your faction is yes. If you are in a group and one of the members kills something, everyone gets faction change as a result. This can result in some problems when you have a mix of alignments in a group such as Dark elves and High elves for example (dark elf may attack dwarf or High elf a troll).

A related problem may result when a group member is aggrod by a mob with bad faction and everyone else is impacted - I remember once being in a group at BB LDON camp when some idiot trained all the dwarf guards along the path because they were bored and the SK in our group was killed but rest of us who normally dont have faction problems also got hit. Some nice high levels rez all of us, but should be a warning about pickup groups being careful about who they attack.

You didn't lose faction with misty thicket because YOU were the one that died. If the halfling would've died, you would've suffered the faction hit. As was said, you will lose/gain faction along with your group members accordingly IF the mob dies, but you won't necesarrily take aggro unless you take part in the fight in some way, including healing and buffing during the fight. For instance, my bard was afk in butcherblock, waiting for an adventure with the rest of the group. I went out for a smoke, came back and was dead. Like what happened with Rickea, someone trained guards through the camp and we had an SK in our group. Lucky for the SK, I was playing selos, so he hightailed it to the zoneline. Well, since my song hit him, and he had aggro, that gave me aggro also, so they turned around and destroyed me. They didn't touch anyone else in the group because no one even bothered trying to help me it was over so quick. So, moral of the story is: careful of your surroundings and who you attempt to help, especially when faction is involved.

no, you do NOT GET faction for what group members do, unless you help them. you did not really lose any faction -- you just buffed someone who was kos, and blixkin was already chasing them, so he got mad at you too. if you go back, he will not attack again unless you get him mad again.

Czaemon is correct, you will only get a negative faction hit if you help someone as they kill the mob. Help is healing, buffing, or (of course) aiding in attacking. You do not have to be grouped with the person that kills the mob to get the faction hit.

Helping someone who is attacking a mob, makes you TEMPORARILY KoS to that particular mob, even if you're already Allied to that mob.

The best example of this is the opposite problem. Raiding Kael for instance to raise faction with Coldain or CoV. UNLESS you participate by either healing someone or attacking a giant in some way you don't get the faction hit. Who you are grouped with makes no difference at all. Faction is dished out on a personal basis.

well, I was a bit skeptical, if there is such a thing like temporary faction changes. but you are right. just verified yesterday.

[Mon Mar 08 19:01:41 2004] Right click on the NPC to consider him.
[Mon Mar 08 19:01:43 2004] Blixkin Entopop looks your way apprehensively -- he appears to be quite formidable.
