I am a level 55 pally ( now with run3 .. Woot!!, but working on level 56 now).. Who often hunts with 2 friends.. Level 55 Wizzie and level 54 cleric.. I started playing in October.. the Wizzie in December ( he has more playing time then me)..

The wizzie is the type who knows no fear... ( and often has gotten us both killed.. HeHe, but it usally all comes out good ). He wants us to go to Temple of Droga and hunt some level 58-61 nameds in there and says if we can single pull it should be easy ( he invis's us all and we go to a room to camp ).. He says as long as I tank and keep the mob off him he can nuke it to death. ( we always get C3 & virtue from POK) and cleric can keep me healed..

I am not so sure of this plan.. He says as long as I can taunt the mob off him as he nukes we should do fine..

It is this last point I question.. If the mob switches to him and I taunt and do not see the red message saying the taunt failed does that mean the mob will automatically switch to me?? Assuimg the wizzie stopped nuking until the mob switched back..

I also think he does not fully understand something I have leaned..

at level 30.. This trio could take a level 36 with little problem (in most cases) using his game plan, but 3 level 55's taking on a level 61 or even 58 is WAY different.. Am I being TOO cautions??

P.S. He does always have evac rdy just in case, but still....

Ok, when you taunt, and do not get a failed message, you have effectively raised yourself on the mob's hate list. If I understand correctly, this does not "always" put you at the Top of the hate list. But do remember, you are a Pally, you have other tools to augment your taunt if you will. STUN is your friend, and will quickly raise you on the hate list. This also will have the effect (if the mob is stunable) of diminishing the mobs DPS to you and your partner.

Now, on the mobs above your level... is it do able? Sure... it all really depends on the mobs abilities... do they have AoE, summon etc... I am of the similar type as your wizard friend.. give it a try, the worst that is gunna happen is a CR and you learn something.

Good luck.

The thing missing out of your combination of classes is a slower. On higher level mobs it would really help if you could find a chanter or shammy to tag along with you Smiley: smile

We all know computer games are run by numbers, and EQ is no exception. So, the easiest way to explain this is with numbers. The mobs hate list is arranged by numbers, highest on top. Virtually everything you do generates hate (some things lower hate, like rangers jolt spell, feign death, etc). When you get a successful taunt, you raise your hate to the person you taunt it off of +1. That means, hypothetically, the wizzy has 600 hate from the mob by nuking, you taunt successfully, you have 601. Of course, by swinging your weapon while doing this, you're generating even more hate, stun, more, so on and so on. The key is taunting that mob before he does too much damage to your friend, and that can be tough with those 55+ mobs for the exact reason Bluie stated. They tend to swing FAST. If it's timed right, they could conceivably kill your friend in 2-3 rounds, which equates probably to less then 10 seconds. Not good if your taunt fails. That's why slowers are so important in the end game. It doesn't even have to be a shaman or enchanter. It could be a beast lord, or a bard. I don't know what named mobs you're hunting in Droga, but I know Droga can be tough. My 57 ranger, a 65 bard, 64 druid and 62 cleric were in there and we were having a rough time once in a while. The mobs really like to aggro on you if you sit and mounts can't be used in there. We were pretty deep though, so go ahead and give it a try. Good luck
