Running everquest on a laptop?Follow

#1 Mar 01 2004 at 2:41 PM Rating: Decent
I have yet to actually try it but I'm sure that there are going to be issues so, can anyone help?

I am currently getting a laptop that has a 733 processor in it with 256 ddr ram and 8mb of video ram. Everquest requirements ask that you have atleast 32mb of vid ram. So...is there any way to run eq? Besides all of the obvious turn the settings down to bare minimum.

Any help would be great.

Thanks,
Troy

I don't know that even dropping the settings through the floor would help. I think even at the bare min that EQ requires it would be pretty hard to play =(

I was running on a Dell Inspiron 8000 with:

P3 1gh
512 SDram
32mg Graphics card
broadband connection

Would run fairly well did have to turn far clip plane way down and some zones, bazaar, Jaggedpine were extremely laggy. Also would run Very Hot. I just upgraded to a p4, 512 DDR, and 64 mb graphics card which works very well.

IMHO your processor and graphics card will slow the game way down and youll be staring at the ground all day ( like I was.

I have, in the past, run the game on a Compaq Presario laptap with 8 meg of video. At the time it ran fairly well - but that ws before Luclin. I still have it and the game is still installed - think I'll boot it up tonight and see wwhat happens. I dont really think that it will handle all the expansions. But - if you would be happy with everything up to Luclin - it can be done.

I recently installed my discs to laptop and ran the initial 100 hour patch because I am taking a week-long business trip and I want to play at night while I am away. (/em lights candle /g Hello, My name is Dedaien, and I am an EQ-aholic). All survey-taking, rat-prodding, psych-101-****-talkin', head-shrinker wannabees please take note.

It was somewhat laggy, but doable. Turn everything down (gamma, clip, etc.) as suggested, and use an external mouse if you are geared toward using the mouse for targeting, spells, etc. It is not the way I would go unless you have a kickin lap-top, but mine is 2 years old and it actually worked. I will get my fix, dammit...oh yes...I will get...my...FIX!

If you need the DX-9 driver for the laptop, check out this link which was provided by SOE tech support.

If you're buying now and EQ is a big issue, I would suggest desk top.

There are plenty of Laptops that could handle EQ with full options...

Just not that one.

have run EQ on a laptop with a 32meg card. laggy even with a lot of settings off or way down. id not even give it a wirl with an 8m vid card.

maybe with a 16 you might get away with it, but highly doubt it with only an 8.

I also can run eq on my laptop Dell Inspiron but I have all the old models turned on. The laptop does have 556 k memory but graphics card isn't all that great. Like I said it's doable.

Dell inspiron 8200, 2Ghz 2Gb Ram, 64 MB Geforce4.

Crappy video card is the only real problem, plays great otherwise. All models, high detail textures.

You can get away with less ram, but why bother - it's cheap.
