I have recently created a warrior on Morden Rasp. However, after reading the warrior boards on casters realm, I'm not sure if that was a smart choice. From those boards, I got the impression that Warrior's are inferior tanks in xp groups at the high-end game and are only used in raid situations. I already have a mid-50's necro and I dont want to play another class that is going to have difficulty finding groups. My question is, basically, do warriors still have troubles finding groups and maintaining agro or does the new combat abilities system make warriors more desired in pick-up groups?

Thanks for the answers...

I can't answer your quesion as to the higher levels as my Barbarian warrior is only at lvl 32. I have had no trouble at all getting pick-up groups, LDoN groups, and contributing to guild raids up to this point. My HP and AC are decent enuf to make me an effective meatshield (especially with temp, but not always temped) and I can hold onto aggro in almost all groups.

The only exception was last night when I did a pickup group in the OT with some uber-twinked toons (one was a zerk) who were swinging a Sword of the Bloodsworn and Copper Hammer of Striking and hitting for 150-300 of non-melee. Most times I was able to taunt the mob back on me (taunt is in the mid 100s) but it was a little frustrating. (One guy flat out said that he had bought 50k plat to twink his character, and was planning on buying more, so what are you gonna do.)

This example is the exception, and I would not hesitate to make a warrior if you want a tank. I have been MT in every group I have been in with the War, except guild raids where a higher level warrior does the job. Downside to Barbarian is Barb is stunnable from front attack (as opposed to Ogre) and maybe not as strong as the 2 bigger classes, but I preferred slightly more well rounded stats. And, I don't have to be shrunk all the time. And I can smith Helanic Tundra armor eventually. Plus, aye git ta war a keelt!

My personal feeling is that if you want a tank, the warrior is the way to go. I should add that the zerker who kept getting aggro (although twinked) was severely beat up on the few occasions when I could not pull the mob off him. Guess he should spend his next 50k on AC/HP items. Smiley: oyvey

With the new provoke line and LDON Anger2 and Anger3 augments available and the easily obtainable agro weapons (such as the Droga ones and Greatstaff of Thunder), keeping agro as a warrior is fairly easy (at least keeping it from the debuffers and slowers)

Now there are times when uber equipped rogue or chain nuking caster will steal it from time to time but that's really their fault.

Sadly, class specific boards are not generally the best place to get a positive view of the class. I've found most to be whiny and self deprecating of their class.

I swear the monks at monkly-business honestly believed Sony was out to get them.

My main's a 65 warrior...and while I've gone through periods where I had a hard time getting a group, I've also had periods where I've gotten groups within seconds of going LFG, or even gotten group offers when I WASN'T LFG. But, honestly, I think that's going to be the case with any character...there are times when the groups in your level will all be full up, and there will be times when they're hurting for people. So expect times of feast and famine when it comes to groups, and find things to do to occupy your time while you're LFG.

As far as the warrior class itself...it's true we're less versatile than knights. So it's going to be rare that we're asked into a group that already has a tank (unless we're higher level, for example). I HAVE met a couple toons who won't take a group with a warrior as main tank (an enchanter who likes to slow on the pull and a nuke-happy wizard)...but I think they are the exception rather than the rule. Warriors have more HP and better damage mitigation than a similar level-similarly equipped knight, which, in a smooth group where everyone knows what they need to do and not do to keep aggro on the tank, means less mana used by the cleric and therefore less downtime. So, warriors ARE still in demand for groups, no matter what anyone else tries to tell you.

As a rogue, with my wife playing an enchanter, we are always looking for (a) tanks and (b) healers - in about equal numbers. Thus at my level (high 50's) on my server (Terris Thule) right now, I would say warrior is in pretty high demand. Of course, all of this changes over time, but I spent my 30's in the Overthere (back in the day it was the place to be) and we were *always* looking for tanks.

Warriors are fine tanks. I think people complain that they cannot generate as much aggro at the very beginning of the fight as, say, an SK or Pal, so it can delay slow landing, at the risk of the mob turning on the slower.

And maybe this is a really big deal in, say, high tier PoP zones I don't know. I'm basically only grouping up to high 50's, but in my experience warriors are great.

Also, to put this in context a bit, historically people really complained about Pal and SK's alot. Partly from the exp penalty, partly from one handed weapons being far better than two handed weapons. Now the Pal and Sk may be a bit more desirable than War, in some situations, but characters are a long time investment, and SOE generally mushes things around enough until each class gets their moment of glory, so I wouldn't shy away from a particular class because it is out of favor at the moment.

Pick something you have fun with, I doubt you will regret it.

I build groups on a nightly basis, and I have to say (at lvl 65) I prefer having warriors in most of my groups. Maybe it's just been my luck, but warriors tend to do more damage in groups than paladins, take less healing mana, and (from the shadowknights I've grouped with) are easier to play with pulling to as a monk.

The new agro producing skills you can get at the higher level of the game for warriors does put warriors on about the same level as the knights for keeping agro.

Do not plan to play solo as a warrior past level 30 or so though, just plan on grouping. Anyone with a mana bar will be able to solo much more effectively, simply because every one of them has a means of keeping a mob away from them, and thus unable to hurt them. Being a warrior, you will have to be right up against the mob, and you will need a group behind you to keep you alive, whether it's just one other person, or a raid.
