So last night I get in game with a wizzie friend of mine offering to help me get
my level 52nd Paladin spell " Light of Life ". We have a plan. He ports us to Stonebrunt
Mountains, we zone to the Gulf, He makes us both invis.. swim/run to Dulak where I use my
"Sense the Dead" spell to see if the Mob I need to hand neckalce is up ( he is the only
undead mob in the zone).. All that went like clockwork and he IS up.. Then we buff up and wizzie
invis's us again and we run into the caves on to the Octopus bridge.. He plans to cast translocate
on me from a spot where he will not gain agro, then I hand in the necklace.. get the spell and
BOOM hit the yes button and I am out of dodge.. BUT he does get agro and by the time I turn around
to help he is dead, so I hand in the necklace... get the spell and then we start to plan his body recovery

... Well 2 1/2 hours, 3 wizzie corpses, 1 necro, over 1 blue bubble of wizzie XP
and lots of Plat later we get all corpses recovered.. LOL. I KNEW when we started we should have waited
for another day ( as it was almost 1 AM when we started). We got done ~ 3:30 AM..

Of course just as we make it back to POK 2 addtions things happen.. Some dude in Dulak offers me 3
blue diamonds IF I go back and rezz him ( with my 75% rezz) AND my wife wakes up and starts yelling.
"What the F%&$#^&k are ya doing?? Still PLAYING!! Don't ya know ya have to get up in a few hours to work??
DOh!!! So I told the dude, unless those are RL blue diamonds you are offering, ya will have to get someone
else to help ya.. Lost lots of wife faction last night...

Well, I can laugh because this time it happened to you and not me.

Such is the stuff of Everquest. Hope you gave the wizzy a hug before to went off to bed :p

Well the wizzy is RL friend of mine.. It has been intresting hunting in a duo with a pally-wizzy combo.. Not the best, but at least we can "usually" get out of trouble fast.. LOL.. If only my other RL EQ friend.. with a high level cleric.. played at the same times as we do.. Our Cleric-Pally-Wizzy trio has done real well WHEN we can get on line at the same time..

Been there done that :) You can pretty much scratch EQ off of your list of things to do this weekend and replace it with mall/dinner/romantic comedies.

Took 7 or 8 years, but I turned my wife into a gamer. Cost me a second computer, but was worth it.

Although now instead of guilting me to get off the computer, I get it when I get new computer toys....

"Oh sure, put that nice Radeon 9800XT in YOUR computer while I crawl along with this old 9000. I'll just deal with having to turn off all the extra graphics and the slideshow whenever we go on raids. Not like my bard needs to be able to react quickly or anything"

Hmmm.... maybe not.

LMAO

This is exactly the reason God made men physically larger and stronger than women. So we could protect ourselves against enraged wives!

LMAO!
For about six months, I was convinced my husband loved his computer more than me. I just didn't understand how he could stay up all night playing everquest, sleep for a couple of hours, and get back up to play again. I felt like an ugly old maid that was only good for RL sustenance. Then, i started a ranger, Sola. At first, in the newbie levels, I still didn't get it. However, a new computer, a 42 ranger, a 40 cleric, a 29 necro, a 29 warrior, and my pride and joy, a 50 druid later, I fully understand. LOL! Best thing I ever did for my marriage was start playing everquest.

for those who are interested- my husband rarely plays now and i tend to get a bit of aggro from him now and then.

She later asks " Why did YOU have to stay on so late?? Couldn't you simply tell your friend you will play some other time??"

How do you explain to someone with 0 EQ knowledge..

" Well .. Uhh.. No.. actually, Ya see he needed me, because after the nice Necro pulls his corpses back I have to rezz him.. and I needed him to get the HELL out of Dulak?"

Soooo my awnser in these cases is ALWAYS a simple.. Uh err no.. and prepare for the debuff spell "Wrath of the Wife"

Thinking about attempting to get my girlfriend to try out the game, anyone have any suggestions? She just considers it another "silly" game where you do nothing but kill things. Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated ;p

OMG, this thread soooo is my life.
She plays SIMS, goes to bed at 2100 Hrs all the time.
I would kill all the elemental gods to know how to get her turned on to EQ.
I have even made a nice Necro for her. She just says its way too nerdly, this coming from someone who recites medical terms for fun.
/Sign....."Raid tonight, Sweet!" .....Err...wife faction going to drop again......time for one of those faction building quests......I use the one called "Shopping" these dadys.

How to get your wife or girlfriend to play:
In my experience, just trying Everquest was enough to get me hooked. So here are some ways to get her to try it, and hopefully she'll get hooked just like me.
1) Beg.
2) Trade: I'll go shopping (or whatever she wants to do that you hate) with you if you start an everquest character. Go shopping (and really, really be nice and have a good attitude- no fighting or yelling or just being a jerk). When you get home, make her start a toon. Glue yourself to her. Be patient when explaining things to her. Even after she's got the hang of it, keep watching her... at least until she asks you to buy another computer so she can have her own account and play with you...
3) Out-Smart Her: You don't get it? Of course not, you won't even try playing. How can you understand anything until you try it?
4) Prey on her insecurities: I had a dream last night that we were in Everquest, and you were this hot Vah-Shir...
5) Out-Smart Her #2: when you hear "we don't spend enough time together" you know your chance is ripe :) Tell her you should each pick something to do together at home this weekend. You'll prolly end up watching a couple of chic flicks- at which point you can suggest a film of questionable nature or Everquest. Remember, the more you hate what she suggested, the more arguing space you have to get her to try Everquest.
6) Be Sensitive: Yeah, I know I'm off a little early. I was playing with this couple, and it made me miss doing something with you. Solarinth and Firefingers have been together for 2 years, and they were so lovey... I wish we could play together like that.
7) Trade #2: Mmmm. Dinner was great. How about you let me do dishes while you try playing Everquest. Here's where it gets tricky... Stay glued to her (as stated above) until it is so late at night that you can put off doing the dishes til tomorrow.

If none of these things work, your lady probably just isn't going to get into Everquest.

EQ is kos to my husband as well =( I've tried handing him batwings but the "wife" class doesn't get invis line spells. Everytime he catches me playing a mystical voice says to me "Your faction with the husbands of Raleigh couldn't possibly get any lower. Your faction with Sony accounts payable has gotten better"

He's a chess master, all games that are not chess are stupid, immature and beneath him...friggin chess snobs /sigh

He likes gems tho...the problem with this is I let him play gems once while while i ran to the grocery store...he thought he'd be funny and move all my spells around...and we all know how to move a spell...you right click it and push delete... 21k worth of spells...POOF

LOL, I just tell them I'm writing.

Whenever a girlfriend asks what I do on my computer all the time I answer, "I'm writing."

Since I get paid to write it is the perfect cover! ;)

isnt it funny how when ur husband/wife/parents yell at you to get off EQ or whatever and you say you cant and they ask why and to you the reason you cant is because if you dont your corpse will decay, miss out on a great item, great raid, lots of money but to your 'whatever' it just sounds like ******** and they dont understand and they make you get off and then your pretty much scrwed because you missed out, damn authoritie's!!!

Try putting your computer where she can see the screen while she's watching TV. Worked for me. Got GF interested within a month. Taught her to play a druid first, and babied her thru it and BINGO!! She now has a high level shaman lol.
