First, get to the options page for your account. it is on the left sidebar if you have that up, or there should be an options button somewhere to the upper right. Then, click on the "my files" section of the screen. Upload a .gif or .jpeg up to 80 x 80 pixles. Then go back to options, you should see a drop down box that says "avatar" or something along those lines. select your file from the list. it will add your avatar to all your prior posts.

If I'm not mistaken, only premium members can display an avatar. Just fyi.

And to find an avatar, just find a graphic someplace that you like and edit it as needed to comply with the 80x80 limit.

On the left side bar click "Your Account"

On the User Screen you will see several option setting boxes
and a box for a signature under which is a save settings and a log out button. Under those are 4 links one of which is "Your Files" click this link. Click browse and select your file, make sure it is the proper size. With the file displaying in the select box, click Upload, and it will upload. Return to the User screen by clicking "Your Account" and select the item you just uploaded from the avatar select drop down list.

Hope this helps,

mtardy

you have to upload the image to the site via your files first. To do that, take your image link, save the image to your hard drive, then use the "your files" tool in your profile to upload it to the allakhazam site. And yes, they are premium only.

So I read this thread and made my icon. I used the "gimp" program under Linux to re-size and crop the image. Is there a free tool under MS Windows which can do this too? (I'm sure photoshop can do this but it is expensive). Further, gimp is non-trivial to use, I would say an experienced user could figure most of it out. Are MS Windows tools, say Photoshop or similar, really easy to use?

The only thing I've been able to find in window is Paint, which is quite lame, but will crop an image if that's all you need to do.
