was doing some off-prime time database updates today. slowed the entire site to a crawl, but they had to be done.

I love how this is the guy's first post....

The information you get on this site is second to none and for 3 dollars a month, how the hell can you complain (and hey, this is a higher up from a competitor's site talking :P)

UMM... well, today, a guildie wanted to know how to make fish oil... well, i looked up the recipe on EQTraders, but for some reason that didn't work... /shrug... i decided to check here, and a user had posted that the new tradeskill window used a different recipe... so my friend tried the new recipe and it worked... in addition, i never see any adverts, i can run two windows of eq at the same time... i can do this and still be able to look up spells, recipes, items, search for new equipment, and see what mobs drop what... if there were a ton of adverts on every page and a ton of pop-ups, my computer would freeze up and i'd go ld... i'm more than happy to pay alla my three bucks a month because 1) he's got great info 2) users can post right on the same page as what i'm looking up 3) he doesn't have to put memory intense advertisements on his site so i can play eq in windows mode and still have access to this site.

btw, you're doing a wonderful job alla :)

The information you get on this site is second to none

While I agree that most of the information on this site is first place material, but there are 2 area's which could stand improving.

First: Spells.

While CastersRealm has sold out to IGE and gone without any real updates in years, they do have 1 thing that keeps me going back to look up spells.

When you pull a spell up it lists:
Name
Mana
level
Location Found
Research (if needed)
Description

ALL ON THE SAME, SINGLE PAGE! Having each of those listed is HIGHLY important to me and it is the reason I still think Allah's is second rate for spell listings.

Second: Tradeskills

Now I fully admit that Allah's has improved their tradeskill department over the past year, but it still doesn't hold a candle in my opinion to eqtraders.

So, what does this mean when answering the statement, "The information on this site is second to none..."?

To me, it means the statement is far from the truth. Overall I would rank this site as the BEST EQ site out there, but it is by no means number 1 in every area.

Equipment? #1

Quests? #1

Zone Guides? -- A #1, but only because there's not much good out there. Also, even Allah's needs some serious work.

Spells? #2

Tradeskills? #2

Bestiary? #1, light years ahead of anyone.

Class Guides / Creation info? Not even ranked. Below all the class sites and CastersRealm. This area needs bigtime work.

Skills? Again, can get better info from individual class sites.

Game Lore? Hate to say #1, but there's not much out there as it is.

Now with all that said, I still say that Allakhazam's is #1 overall and will remain #1 overall for a VERY long time, if not forever. My point was, though, there are some area's of information that are most definitely 2nd or lower to some other sites out there.

Alla is the single best source of infomation on EQ in exsistance, period. I know more from just reading Forums alone than i could ever get from Sony's EQ page about what is upcoming in EQ.

The item search, trade skill package, quest list, Zone infomation, Spell lists, and lack of pop ups make this site a God send.

Without Alla i would be half the player i am. Smiley: bowdown

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with you there. We have Lucy.

Since day 1 of playing this game, where to find spells hasn't ever been an issue I or anyone I've played with. by the time I was the level to attain the spell, I had it. New expansions excluded of course, but where to get spells wasn't overly important. What matters more to me about a spell is exactly what that spell does.

I'm sorry, but Lucy for spells is HIGHLY overrated.

Not only does it on occasion list spells that will NOT be live, but I have to click on each individual spell to find out if,
A) I have to buy the spell at a certain vendor.
B) Go to a certain zone in order to get the drop.
C) Go through endless postings to figure out the quest / research information.

So, YES, your grand Lucy database is second rate for spells. What would make it the best?

That's simple.

Add these to the "main" listing page.
1)Expansion Era (Kunark,Velious..etc..)
2)Drop / Bought / Research (I don't mind clicking a link for this one, but having to search posts to get good information is NOT something a system should rely upon.)

Expanding upon either of those would just add more icing to the cake.

I will concede that point about Lucy, but I've never found that information to be hard to come by either. The only information I've ever gone on a massive search was for drop info, quest info or research info.

In actuality the reasoning behind my stating Alla's spell listings are second rate have nothing to do with Lucy. It's the cosmetic make up of the listings. By NOT adding the above key points I'm forced to go searching. I shouldn't have to do that with the "Premier" spell list.

I think it is the best overall site. You might think another site is slightly better on spells or recipes. But I have yet to find a better site, in general. You don't have to be best in every category to be the best. And if I could only have one site, it wouldn't be eqtraders, or caster's realm because they don't do nearly as good a job as ALLAKHAZAM IMO.

So as often as I use it, it seems only fair to support it (and I get no ads, and I get smileys as mentioned previously, and an Avatar to stun and amaze you).

I have to say I am a premium member here. I find this site to be one of the best there is out here for info... but, I do find myself using Castersrealm for spell info.

To me Lucy, although it does extract the info straight from the game, seems a bit confusing. I want to see all the info I need to know on one page. I don't want to have to click 2 pages in to find out what exactly a spell does (example would be Shroud of Undeath). It should all be on one page. Some spells are and some spells aren't. No idea why.

Just seems to me that some of the stuff needs to be a bit more streamlined. The info is there...but, you shouldn't have to dig a few pages in. It should all be on one page for ease of reference if you are in game playing and need to see something quickly.

I agree completely. I pay for a premium membership to this site.

Why? Mainly because of the equipment and bestiary features.

However, I will still state the spells section is not up to the quality that this site puts forth in its equipment section nor is it as high quality as other sites.

Just tossing some Lucy code up there doesn't cut it. Put it as a premium bonus, but at least do something that puts more information on the main page in regards to each individual spell.

Digging around on multiple pages and forums for information isn't top quality.

Actually, it is for me. Hearsay information on where things drop can be pretty unreliable.

That being said, this site is my #1 stop when I want to find out information about EQ.

Alla's gets kudos for creating this site where we can share our experiences and information. The participants get kudos for submitting information and corrections to keep the information as up to date as it is.

p.s. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who finds Lucy's spell entries confusing and cumbersome. I only look at it as a last resort.

Lets say I have a 30 bard, and did not know what my 30 oldworld song was. I go to lucy. From there, I click the Bard tab/link which points me to http://lucy.allakhazam.com/spelllist.html?classes=BRD&source=Live . I scroll down until I see Fulfils Curtailing chant, and click on the link. That points me to http://lucy.allakhazam.com/spell.html?id=707&source=Live . I click on the Song: Fulfil's curtailing chant, which points me to http://lucy.allakhazam.com/item.html?id=15707 which has the drop locations listed. Sure, it takes a few clicks, but unless you are on a 28.8kb modem, lucy loads fast. Lucy has an added benefit -- it doesn't install scumware

If it's a new subscriber, and he's only been in for a week, then it could leave a bad taste in his mouth if the site was down.

The site is pretty stable by Everquest standards.

Methinks he should head over to sony and post,

"Why the ^%!#$# should I pay $12.95/month for a game when all I get are 1017 errors?"

Or he's just a troll, newb, idiot. Take your pick.

I realize all the information is there to "find", but my point is I shouldn't have to find it with the "#1 Spell List" on the net.

The layout needs to use its space better and make sure ALL the information is listed on one single page. At the very least place a "Drop / Bought / Research" category and have those 3 words be links to another page detailing each. That way I wouldn't have to waste the time clicking on 10 bought spells just to find the few that are drop or research.

Oh you mean how to attain spell or song SCROLLS, that's a different thing than the spells/songs themselves. Scrolls, like anything else you pick up, trade, sell in the bazaar are Items. Spells are the effects - which are run by the Spell Processing engine. Spells have things like range, duration, resist adjustments.

To get an idea of how to find the various spells/scrolls, I'd start at the item search, for example: How to find all the Bard Scrolls ... Smiley: grin

A "Spell List" should have BOTH. You have all of the information on the site already. I'm still not quite understanding how my point isn't being made I guess.

I do not want a "Spell Information List" and a "Scroll Location List".

I would want them both combined into ONE "Spell List". There should be zero need to go to other areas to find information about a single spell.

Picture a table like you have already when you go to the Spells section. Right now you have:
Name, Class, Effect(s), Mana, Skill, Target Type.

Those are excellent definitions for the spell itself.

BUT... the Drop / Purchase / Research / Quest should also be listed under a field called something like, "OBTAINED".

Take for example: Ranger spell, Hawk Eye.

When I pull that spell up from the "Spells" section, I get:
Name: Hawk Eye
Class: RNG/15
Effect(s): 1.Increase chance to Hit by 10%
Mana: 25
Skill: Alteration
Target Type: Self

Everything there is great... love it. Okay, now where do I get it. Well, if I click on the spell it comes up with purchase it at: Sold at vendors - Pathfinder Arelat (Plane of Knowledge)

Now why can't that single bit of information be listed where the Lucy stuff above is also listed? Would be as simple as putting in another column.

Example could be by using the above spell: Sold - PoP

Instead of text "PoP" could even use your nifty little icons you have in the equipment section for the era of the spell.

Well Either way, you want it, and I've got to assume others do too, happy to provide what we can, so we'll make it happen!

although it is a bit more complex than just adding a field.
