What will help raise weapons skillsFollow

Hi, I recently aquired aquired a Drakkel Icegrinder for my 24 WAR. Unfortunately, I didn't listen to all that good advice to keep all my weapon skills maxed out. So now I'm using this thing and have a 2HB skill of 9. Last night I gained 2 lvls in PC and increased my skill to 15. I realize that I'm going to have to keep killing blue mobs in order to get my skill up, so my question is this.

Are there any buffs I could get or stat enhancing gear that would effect the rate of my skill ups?

(Or if there is another secret method, please clue me in ;) )

Thanks

that Icegrinder is extremely slow... you want to get the fastest 2HB weapon possible to maximize your chances to increase skill.

also -- the probability you will skillup is also increased as your DEX increases, so having a shammy buff you can be helpful.

High dex high attack rate (ie. haste and delay). Get a faster 2hs by all means or pay for the dex/haste buffs.
Find a group that is killing mobs, ask nicely if you can attack the mob as well in order to raise your weapon skill.

Hmmm, i havent tested this thoery, but cant you just get a high lvl tank challange him to a duel, and tthen beat on him with out him attacking you and go afk untill weapon skill go up? just a thought.

You can gain skill ups on dueling pets. As a high level I wouldnt care to stand around and get hit on. Maybe if i was trade skilling?

nope, doesn't work. you cannot get skill ups from other players directly.

However as Jonwin mentioned, you can get skill ups from giving pets a smackdown. you just need a pet class who can summon a blue or better pet; and ideally has /pet hold AA.

or get a faster 2hb for skill ups.

OK, time for my stupid newbie question. A faster weapon will have a lower delay right?

my sujestion is not to stress to much over it if you are still in PC (hope you are out of there by now though) as you will level way to fast to get all of your skill capped for level.

get to mid 20s hit MS, then at 30th hit OT.

if you are ever LFG, go find a group that is killing and not looking for more and ask if you can practice your skills. most groups will not have an issue with this as you will just add to their DPS and thus make things die faster.

do not taunt as you will not get heals.

if they have sham/chanter, then ask to donnate for haste. at those levels haste normaly will last around 10min or so. i would sujest verifing if the haster is going to be around for an hour or more, then offer to donnate 1 time for the hour instead of buggin him every 10min with coin. just hit them once with coin and make the agreement that he will keep enough mana to keep you buffed with haste.

the way the game is now it is impossible, or at least very near, to get all of your weapon skills maxed before 30th. heck it is almost impossible to max them prior to 40th or so.

so keep that in mind and as long as you get your skills up before you hit your 50s you will be ok. spend a little coin and buy some skill ups from your guild master too.

[edit to add]

i will often times take my warrior to PC to help semi PL the group at bandit 1. ill pull and try to hold agro with taunt alone. this will alow me to max my tuant skill and get a little defense skill up.

i just have to remember to turn off my reposte skill or take weapons out of my hands as even only at 32nd i can KS a group if they dont have a big nuker with them.

Also pick up a haste item if you have the spare PP, even if you only buy it to skill up and then resell it. Flowing Black silk sash, the red one, or possibly SCHW. Item haste stacks with spell haste and every swing allows you the chance to skill up.

The shovel sold in Cabilis is one of the fastest all/all 2HB items in the game and costs under a PP. The only problem is it is not magic so you need to watch what you skill up on. If you are KOS to the Iksar create an alt give him a PP in the shared bank slot and buy the shovel to transfer. You can do this all at lvl one and only takes 5 minutes

I leveled my 2HS skill by using a Sarnak Ceremonial Sword. Sure it only hits for 8, but its the fastest 2HS I could find for not a lot of money (think I paid 20pp). Didn't want to pay a lot because I knew I wouldn't use it once I got the skill up. Now, I used it to kill skellies and rats in the newbie zone, and I don't suggest you go main-tanking PC with it. But, if you keep it on you, you can probably find a strong group that will let you whack away with it until you acquire more skill. As someone siad, try to get a haste buff as well and you will level up with this thing very quickly.

yes, when training up skills who really cares about how much you are hitting for.

its all about how often you swing the weapon. every time you swing you have a % for a skill up. i have found that higher INT does help with this so get some nice chanter to INT buff you as well.

my observasion with INT and weapons skills>>>

ogre warrior near capped STR (semi twink) took 3x as long to learn most skills compaired to gnome (141STR, but 101 INT). ogre INT is somewere around 55-60, so i could see a huge differance in skill ups with those 2 warriors.

the ogre hit way harder, but the gnome hit more often due to better weapons skill.

played ogre into upper 30s, currently gnome is 32nd. ogre is no longer mine. gave that account away.

I was under the understanding that DEX was the sole determining factor for offensive skill ups. I'm curious as to what the your Ogre and Gnome's DEX was respectivly

about same. i would put them within 15 points or each other. not big enough differance to see a 3x differance in skill ups on gnome vs warrior.

2 biggest stat (3 really) differances:

ogre str, sta near max (250+ for both of them)
gnome 141,145 respectivly.

INT

ogre 55-60
gnome 101

DEX within 15 points of each other as with AGI

i know dex is for procing.

like i said this was just an observasion, is not fact, proof, etc. just an observasion without real study behind it.

The bottom line is contained in the first and second answers you received from Kolzar and Jonwin. I also strongly believe in what Singdall told you--don't sweat.

I'm in my low 40s and just now raising my 2HB (currently 151). I raised my 2HS first and now 2HB. It's a long slow process (and maybe boring) but it's worth it. I have Silver Chitin Hand Wraps (SCHW) and they help alot.

When I started two handed weapons I did as suggested and got them all near 100 then let them slide. Now I'm catching up again. I have lots of solo time so it's not a big deal.

Good Hunting!

1 - get dex buffs
2 - get dex gear (.e.g. https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=1634 )
3 - try to get a haler to come with you. you fight, and he stands back and heals you.
4 - get the fastest weapon (lowest delay)
5 - do not group for a while, you get too much exp. cause the easy to hit mobs do not con blue (and higher mobs you cant kill with your low level skill).
6 - loose a level if necessary to fight blue mobs (which you actually can kill)
7 - when soloing, get the mob down to x% (I do 50%) of health and then kill them with the weapon you are most proficient with.

just my Smiley: twocents

PS: what I almost forgot: it is not a bad thing to spend a few training points...20 or so I suggest
