I LOVE Morden RaspFollow

The server...not that freaky wayfarers guy...*lol*

Seriously - this weekend I started a Human (male)Cleric on MD and loved it! I took Qeynos because I always wanted to play FAR away from the next wayfarers camp and its awfully great.

Sure there are 50+ people around and the buff rate is about me:others 32:3 but everybody's grouping and valuing the simple things - like the newbie armor or these cute wolf-made boots, belt and cape that this nice guy in Qeynos Hills crafts.

I had to make a trip to Erudin to get sharpening stones and that sucks but otherwise I just enjoy being forced to do everything the hardest way possible. =)

Only one 47th lvl freak wandered across Qeynos so far and being asked what he's doing around town he said something like this was just a char from another account - GREAT EXPLANATION!

Seriously - I can understand if someone wants to transfer to a new server to farm the planes (as if IGE and the like hadn't transferred while we still weren't sure that there is a new server *lol*)....but stumbling around in a newbie zone...?*sigh*

...can't wait to return tomorrow... =))

Well if you're the only high level character on a newbie server, you can't actually do to much more than trying to impress the lower leveled peeps. Too bad it isn't a true newbie server. I think allowing transfers is weak. At least let a server stay new for six months to a year.

The first months of EQ, even the first year when it was released was the best. Those are the times you actually work for your gear, nothing is given. LOL, I could just imagine today's beggars on a new server all asking other lvl 1 newbies if they can have free stuff. ROFLMAO

I may transfer my 65 chanter and 65 cleric bot there because my server is so overpopulated. You have to fight for almost every camp now. /sigh
#4 Feb 16 2004 at 3:10 AM Rating: Default
As long as the transferred chars go directly to the planes and not standing in our (newbies) way in BB or EC transfer is OK with me.

The economy is going to be very unbalancend soon but at least some weeks of gameplay will be left before that happens.

Well, at least there's no cause to spaz out and race to 65 to be "first" Smiley: wink

Started a halfling paladin last night on a lark. After about an hour though I got tired of racing thirty rangers through Misty Thicket for giant rats and black wolves and called it a night, a level and a platinum coin richer for my experiences. People weren't being rude or anything so much (heard a lot of oocs on newbie armor drop locs) just that there were a whole lot of them.

Toxxulia forest is kind of counterproductive to finding snips and snails and puppydog tails or whatever it is my newbie armor is made of.

If thats not already part of a song, you should create a Bard to compose it - this line is very appealing =)

It's from an old rhyme regarding what boys are made out of. Young girls, conversely, are formed of sugar and spice and all things nice.

Depending on where you live, "snips" may be "snakes and snails", "mud and snails", or whatever else. I learned it as snips and so snips it is, despite my having no idea what exactly a "snip" is in context.

Toxx is not a good idea there is a big fat lvl 50+ Skunk <for berserker epic> camping newbies there.

I was really excited about playing on another new server, until i realized that you could transfer characters to it with equipment and everything.

I really wish they had held off on the transfers for 6 months or so, i havent played on a fresh server since Quellious was opened.

Started Yolo,a Sham/Bar here this weekend and had an excellent time. People go out of their way to be pleasant with each other. There is a real sense of comraderie everywhere you go, along with a feeling of "pioneering"...I mean its all the same stuff..but without all the madness of Stromm. I've had more fun here in 5 levels than I've had on Stromm in the last 10. Prices are reasonable out on /auction...never did go to the bazaar so don't hold me to it... all in all a fun mixture of truly first timer newbies and alternate characters starting from scratch, and the odd character transfer that I didn't mind at all. Give it a shot folks, If ya don't like it nothing says ya gotta stay. As for me, I think another ten levels or so will let me know if Gaibban is coming over...Smiley: sly
just my Smiley: twocents

I'm already addicted to that server - my FV toon will stay on 21st for a LONG time I guess.

Yesterday I did some tattered armor pieces to bridge the gap till I got the last 2 from the armor quest and I'm already doing sheet matel from ore bricks (which I did make from tarnished weapons!) for banded armor =)

And seeing the whole zone swoop from one side of EC to the other when a griffin comes around instead of having it instantly killed by some bored high-level is great fun too.

In the meantime buffing is already also a recieving thing for me (a lot of gnomes and elves seem to have made it from home to Freeport and EC) and apart from feeble attempt to powerlevel (no one to bind so far so death in EC means more time loss than carefull target picking *grin*) everyone seems to enjoy.

And when did I ever hear before: "Expedition to The West Commonlands to be launched - only 9+ PST"

:-D

Silly mistake 1.

Started new character and had a great time with virtually no cash loot but did get a lot of silks. Finally I went off to the bazaar to make my fortune. Silly Me! With only about 3 gold I was too poor to buy a trader satchel Smiley: smile. About 200pp worth of silks on board and no cash. I'll have to go annoy some bards or something to get me started.

Bazaar prices were a bit strange. Not as high as I'd expected for weapons and the like but tradeskill components were stupidly expensive. Things that normally sell for 2pp selling for 15pp. I'm surprised to find this on a server where most people must be more worried about their patchwork armour than the 5th Shawl.

Choosing a race that has no "newbie armour" does free me in some ways but makes it harder in others.

There were a lot of real newbies shouting round the town but also it seemed a lot who knew what they were about. I don't think it'll stay a newbie server for very long. Nice for a bit of recreational peace and quiet away from the grind and drama though.

From what I've seen on this post, I think I'll try this new server when I get home. With new leadership abilities, and the posibility of getting in low lvl raids :) It would be good brief fun. I'll start up another Halfling Druid and make 20 over the week and then 35 over the weekend. Porting will be fun :) I'll just miss riding my horse :(

Corb, don't forget you can turn in kobold molars in Erudin or Paineel (depending on faction) to get ringmail armor to get you started. FoS started out doing that to get us all geared up.

Thanks Grady. I think level 3 is a bit low for Warrens at the moment. I'll run a few bard errands and then I'm set. What size is that armour for? I've done it long ago with elves and I seem to remember not using it. Maybe it was just that elf newbie armour was better.

Thanks for the tip though. It is probably the best newbie hand-out there is. Certainly makes Canloe Nusbeck and his Small Tattered Shoulderpads look a bit cheap Smiley: smile

Don't feel too bad, until they fix quest container combines pretty much no one has newbie armor quests Smiley: wink

Decided against the paladin and started a human cleric of Bertoxxolous. Noticed that none of my newbie quests have components from the sewer mobs -- what's up with that? Spent a couple hours getting pwned by decaying skeletons and finished up with a half **** (give or take) of cloth armor, three levels, all my lvl 1 spells and about 8pp for my level 5 ones. Oh, and a new appreciation for running around untwinked which I haven't done for a long time.

There was a decaying skeleton running around with a rusty halberd which was kind of funny. You kept seeing newbie corpses of people who must have had the same thoughts I did:
"A skeleton! With a weapon! Money!"
A Decaying Skeleton slashes YOU for 20!
A Decaying Skeleton slashes YOU for 20!
A Decaying Skeleton slashes YOU for 8!
You have died.

Damn thing was a menace! A menace! Anyway, I'll have to get some more levels, but might hold off some until they fix the container bug.

Everybody knows that the plague is coming
Everybody knows it's moving fast...

This server is great, BUT SOE screwed everyone by allowing character transfers. I ran into these two twinks in Paludal Caverns and they were the most annoying people in the world because they thought they were better than everyone else and they figured they could just be rude to everyone. Besides them I have enjoyed my time grouping with all other people here. They all seem extremely friendly, moreso than other servers. I believe it's because we are all here to play some good ole fashioned, non-twinked, skilled EQ. The server is great because even if I wanted to twink I couldn't!

Levelling in PC seems to be at odds with "good ole fashioned Everquest" in my mind, but whichever Smiley: wink

I have been running into a crapload of real newbies on Morden Rasp which is kind of cool. Some level 5 ranger asked me how I made his life regenerate so fast when I hit him with a Light Heal -- that sort of thing. Had a druid ask me if sitting still would make their mana get back faster.

Giant king snakes are impossible to find. Just thought I'd share that. You know how rangers and druids cry about giant field rat whiskers? ***** them. I've /ooc'd away four of those damn things and have yet to see a giant king snake, much less get a skin. And I need about five giant king snake skins for my newbie armor -- given that the large king snake skin drop rate is about 1 in 5, I'm a touch discouraged. I bet the spawn rate is bugged but since there's only three clerics of Bertoxxolous in all of Everquest, no one ever noticed Smiley: grin

I shipped a 52 ranger toon to Morden Rasp but pretty much stayed away from the noobs. Lately been doing a lot of fishing in Natimbi waiting for everyone to catch up. Thats good plat action. Sometimes I will SoW noobs in PoK but I only do that because I CANT STAND PoK. so noobs might as well get the best of it.

PoK needs to be 45+ zone ONLY.

Bring back the boats!
Bring back the druid rings!
Bring back the Wizzie Spires!

And I thought I was crazy the other day wanting to start up a Bard on a fresh server... Are there enough transfers on Morden yet that it feels like any other server? I just got my Kitty Berserker past 22 over on Luclin, maybe I'll tinker around with something else new before levelling gets "Un fun"

I needed a couple of those snakes for something..Druid newbie weapon maybe?

Anyway, hunt them on the hill just southwest of Black Burrow, and between BB and the little shop in the Q Hills. I think they path through there.
