Is the EQ atlas worth getting for a n00b?

Agreed. The Atlas is a nice source for lore and fun to leaf through, but for getting from point A to point B, you're just as well off (if not better) using the nonaffiliated eqatlas.com site and in-game maps.

Like Jophiel said, it's an amusing source of lore. As far as practical facts go though, useless. Just get the map pack from eqatlas.com for your in-game cartography system for navigating.
I wouldn't advise getting the eq atlas. If you want to get the maps from www.eqtoolbox.com go to the section where it says download all maps. When its done downloading copy all of the files and paste them into the eq map folder. And im pretty sure thats all the maps. Havent been to a place yet that didnt have one.
Owning the atlas, as other said, its just intresting lore.
Maybe, it can give you some ideas of places to go just by pretty pictures - but really - eqmaps is better.
Another thing is it is outdated, it was out before LoY and does not reflect as it is missing maps since then and does not show that frogloks have taken over the old troll city

I own it and don't really regret owning it as it has helped me figure out which zones link to which to meet up with people without having to minimize, but when I need really specific info or the map isn't clear I end up going online to look anyway so it's a mixed bag. Can you do without it? Absolutely. Can it be helpful from time to time? Sure. Is it worth the money? Tough question.....
