I got it to work once. But that's it. Now it will sit happily in the background collecting data but no profiles are created?

What am I missing? Do you have to be AT the character screen for it to work? Or will it work if your just logged in? Also I have two accounts (wife and hubby duo :) ), does the account name matter for EQ or just Allah's?

One tip tho is make sure you have your network adapter selected to collect data not your 1394 port or any other device listed.

Heres the instructions I copied and pasted to txt file to my local machine, it seems to be slipping down the page quite rapidly :D :

A number of people are confused about using the Lucy Item Collector for collecting and uploading your profile information. I figured I would post step by step directions here. I'll send these to Rale to add to the readme file too.

1. Download the Item Collector Here and install it.

2. Set up Profile Support in Option by checking the profile support box. You need to also designate the file for saving them. Click on the "..." next to the file box and pick a directory. The default directory is the program directory.

3. Launch Internet Explorer and make sure the privacy setting in its options menu is at medium or lower. Then go to https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/user.html and log into the site. (If you use IE as your default browser, you are probably already logged in).

4. Launch Item Collector and if you do not have it defaulted to start when launched, start collection.

5. Launch Everquest and log into the game. Your Character should be saved to Item Collector when you log in. If it is not, zoning will usually save it. You can check back and forth in windows mode to make sure it is saved.

6. In Item Collector, go to file->profiles. Your Character should be listed there. Click on the character and the information should display on the right side. To upload to our server, click on "Upload". You can then view your character at https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/userinfo.html. Characters can also be viewed locally by going to the default directory you chose in the options (probably C:\Program Files\EQ Item Collector\) - This is premium only.

Is there a forum for this?

Also, you need to have it running while logged on to EQ. To update your profile, open Item Collector, go to Profiles, select your profile, and upload it to the server. It will overwrite the character profile with the update.

If you start a new character, and have not yet created a profile for that character using the "Your Characters..." link on the site's sidebar, will that new character show up in the item collector's profile list? I guess I'm asking where does the item collector's profile list of characters come from, the site server, or a list that the item collector has assembled from snooping your eq files? Possibly, a new Allakhazam member may not have even started a profile on the site's server, so the item collector does not show any profiles available yet.

Not knowing exactly how the item collector works with the server, I can't say this for sure. It could very well send a message to the server to create a new character profile for you from scratch. I could test this out by deleting one of my profiles and then running the item collector while logging on that character, then checking if the profile came back on the server. With my newest character, I started a new profile for it manually using the site link, then ran the item collector. It did show up that way in the item collector. Only 3 of my 5 characters show up in the item collector profile list. Two characters I have not played since before I installed the item collector. They do not show up in the list for uploading. But I suspect if I do some play time with them, while running item collector, the item collector will then add them to it's list.

To sum up:

1. Maybe a character's profile already needs to exist on the server for it to show up on the item collector's profile list.

2. Also maybe a character needs to be played at least one time along with the item collector, for it to show up on the item collector's profile list.

I've uploaded chars without having to add them to alla first.

I run the prog (keeping it maxed becuase it seems to go away if I don't)

Log into my char and camp and do the next one.

It's always created my profiles. Sometimes it doesn't upload very well but I just keep trying and it goes sooner or later.

Sweedie It think you'll find that one of the patches changed the way you have to update your characters.

Now you have to upload the character info (first option on the profiler menu - can't remember what its says) once the data has been collected. It was changed in an early patch.

(I think this was because of a probelm with naked corpses and such being automatically updated)

Sheesh, I think a lot and know very little.

Edit: also, Jazz I think think it requires premium

Thanks for the responses, was just about to give up on this proggy!

Ok maybe I should clarify a little. I have the character profiles created on Allah's, the updater itself doesn't create any profiles anymore. It will collect all the data I tell it to (by checking back and forth in windowed mode I can see the data flowing.), but when I go to file profiles there is nothing there? It seemed like a cool little util when I had working, I have to be doing something wrong :), but I cant remember changing anything?!?! Will try a reinstall later tonight, maybe I borked something...
