Programming Hot Keys with PausesFollow

#1 Jan 10 2004 at 12:50 PM Rating: Decent
Hi All,

Just started a new toon and I'm trying to figure out how to put pauses on the same line as a command for a Hot Key. Trying something like this:

/pause 70, /doability 4
/pause 70, /doability 4
/pause 70, /doability 4
/pause 70, /doability 4
/pause 70, /doability 4

Problem is, it's not working....it'll do the first one, but not any of the others. So, can someone please tell me the proper syntax for this. Also, can you put multiple pauses and /doabilities on the same line?

Thanks kindly,

Nunab.

Just made this hotkey and it works:

/pause 10,/say test 1
/say test 2

The "pause 10" actually occurs *after* the command it preceeds so you will see "test 1", then after a second or so, "test 2".

Pause is the only command that can be doubled up on the same line with another command, and it must be the first command on the line.

This works, thanks...

Is there a way to call other hot keys? example...

/pause 50,/cast 8
/call hotbutton 3

not sure of the correct syntax or if this can be done.

You need to remove the space between the , and the /

eg. /pause 70,/doability 4

That should work. I don't believe you can put multiple commands on the same line, but I'm not positive.

Hope that helps.

IIRC You can NOT reference hot buttons in macros. This could lead to an endless loop, and opens massive holes for macroing tradeskills, pharming, etc.

So far this is working best for me...

/pause 40,/cast 8
/pause 40,/cast 8
/pause 40,/cast 8
/pause 40,/cast 8
/pause 40,/cast 8

one button for 5 casts, not bad... would like the loop tho :) (grin)

One other thing to keep in mind when programming a spell chain hotkey like this is that lag variations can have a small effect on your timing. So if you calculate that you need a 6 second pause before casting the next spell, and it is critical that the next spell fire off, use a pause of 62 or 63 as a small safety buffer.

Nothing's worse than having an automated pull hotkey where your second spell doesn't fire because "You haven't recovered yet." Not only do you have to deal with that, but if you have more spells in the chain, the macro keeps plugging away trying to cast them.

The problem with Hotkey-socials is only that if the ability nedds p.e. 8 sec to reload a chain with 7 sec only triggers once.

for my rogue i wrote 3 training-social-macros (legal!) to use during resting for sneak, hide and sense traps. notice that this is somehow dangerous as if you get attacked while resting the macro runs its 5 lines no matter what you do. jumping into sneak mode while you would like to run can be quite devastating.

by the way - the bottomline of my trainingmacros was always

/pause 30, /tell leiany finished

that produced the "talking to yourself agian" line which told me to start training again. I chose /tell instaead of a /say or /em command because these would give my presence away to every other player near enough. the /pause 30 after the last command instead of 60 or 70 reflected the time to hit the hotbutton again after I was "talking to myself"

One other thing to keep in mind is that the /pause command will only work up to 1 minute (/pause 600). For skills such as foraging, this means you have to do 2 lines. For example, I have the following social set up to forage:

/pause 500, /doability 1
/pause 500
/pause 500, /doability 1
/pause 500
/pause 500, /doability 1

Here is a link to the manual that might help explain a little more
