Is there anyway to place a trader in the bazaar and leave it there and go elsewhere with your character? I somehow thought most of the Traders were just holding spots for merchandise.

Yes, have 2 or more accounts. When you put one of your characters up on trader, it's just like exping or anything else with that character. You can't log out and leave it up nor change characters.
