Once site of the city Veksar, this area is located in the center of Kunark and gets its name from the unfortunate demise of what once stood here.

Veksar sank into what is now the Lake of Ill Omen, and the area was overrun by the Sarnak Collective. Currently, the Iksars of Cabilis continue to do battle with the Sarnaks, fighting over the land.

A clan of Bloodgill Goblins occupies the lake outside of the fallen Veksar. To the northwest is a network of goblin caves which leads to Warsliks Woods. Roaming the entire area surrounding the lake are the wildlife native to Kunark and highly aggressive undead.

There are other posts here with more detailed suggestions, but for a quick I answer I suggest the Windmill (WM) in the Southeast part of the zone and try to group up. Plenty of good exp for your level and lots of other players around in case you get in trouble. Good luck.

Speaking on behalf of my druid, I have to say that this place is great to level your druid, either in a group, or if you don't mind sitting & medding, by yourself... I came here, and stayed, from about level 23-29. Great xp, you can solo yellow sarnaks/goblins without hassle & zones are usually nearby, there are several of them. I found it a bit lacking after level 29 tho, where FM would be a better place to go, when you get your new spells. Lower level tank types can head to FM at lower levels, but druids under 29 didn't seem to be that popular there. My server is Cazic-Thule btw. :)

I personally prefer to fight the goblins, they give better faction, and loot. Plus they tend to be not camped at all, no waiting.

Its not uncommon to have 6 or more groups in the sarnak fort, and no one camping the goblins.

hey all i'm a w/elf 6 ranger, and i'd just like to point something out... i just got an escort over to lake of ill from fv by a friend of mine, and i've just got to say something... so far, lake of ill has been a great place even for my lvl... the drawbacks are obvious, i'm here for a while, at least the next 5 lvls or so, but the hunting can't be beat... but i do have a question... how can i build up faction enough with the iksar to at least use the bank?... or is that even possible?... just wanna know

It takes about 2000 bone chips to get your faction up to use the bank. This should onlyu take a few days 72 hours or so - of killing green skellies to ge the chips. IT's too long to post here . Go to everlore.com and check out iksar faction.

Advice

I moved on to LOIO from Unrest at level 19, and found the experience there to be wonderful! However, I must give my opinion on the best place in the zone to hunt for a good early-mid 20s group. Between the WindMill and the Sarnak Fort, is a Goblin Tower. Now, wait! Don't be so hasty. It's not the tower itself that I found to be a great spot, but the pass in the mountains right near it. This pass is often referred to as Goblin Highway, and just about every kind of mob in the zone comes through there. Just make sure to have a GOOD group, because sometimes things can get a little hairy.

34monk half way through 35

Been fighting in LOIO for some long while, but still dont have a clue about the gobby.

I moved my monk to Frontier Mountain when I hit 30. Now with my shammy Im very interested in Sarnak and Bloodgill Gobby (for Harpoon of the depth of course).

Need more information about where they are and how to pull them. Thanks.

PS: Go for sarnak first, those adherants dropped pretty dang good stuffs for shaman --- Iksar Skull Helm wis3 wt.1. no drop. --- and the talbard, dagger.
Feign Pulling
# Apr 23 2001 at 7:47 AM Rating: Good
For all high 20's monks out there. I have found that camping the goblin tower between the fort and the mill is an awesome place to practice feign death pulls. There are typically 3 to 4 (blue to me) warriors in the tower who will attack as a group when you attack any of them. I usually run them back up the hill and then feign. This separates them nicely and lets you get some pretty easy kills of low blue MOBs. The best part of this is that I have made approximately 70-80 pp from these gobs all in the space of one level.

RE: Lvl 17 paladin
# May 29 2001 at 10:33 AM Rating: Default
Actually for a pally i would suggest not soloing here till you get at least to lvl 19, otherwise you will be lucky to get a kill w/o using LOH. And most od the mob that you could solo are either mixed in with aggroing reds or are too low for xp (newbie part). till 19 i would group here or just go to Kurns tower and kill skellys for awhile lots of fun and good xp some nice items there, besides if you get bored youcan hunt iskar manhunters or mauraders. But if your going to solo regardless of what i say the mill is the best place because usually you will find some one that is not a jerk and will help you instead of watching you die

Best place is on the opposite side of the windmill, near the mouth of the river. You can pull up against the mountain side and keep from getting ganged, and you have a short run to zone if need be.

Hunt in the newbie area right outside Cabilis. You'll probably have to kill a lot of other stuff to get the hatchlings to pop, since gobos and sarnaks are kos to each other, and there's more gobos. Fairly easy to get ripped and torn tapestry drops also, which need to be combined in sewing kit for 2nd level skullcap.

I have been in and out of Ill Omen since lvl 17 with my warrior. I made 3 levels in as many days with a good group.

With my druid I came over here at 19 after i got my new lvl 19 spells and it ROCKS. I am constanly soloing yellow con mobs by the spires. Blue bub of exp every kill and if you get too unlucky there is uaually a group there that will finish off the mob if you ask nicely (i have friends there and just tell them to help me; but ask strangers nicely!)

The only mob in the zone that can out run a SoW'ed druid are the different species of sabertooths. I stay away from them. Anything else is fair game; snare it; run off a little way; NUKE (DONT bother to turn around to face it.. just cast as it comes in range); run off a little bit... etc etc. Med on the shore when you need to. with 3 lvls as my druid I've only been attacked once that way and that was because someones mob thought raw Halfling looked tasty! It didnt do more than 40hp of damage. Regen'ed it while medding.

Safe travels all and happy hunting!

Also, a level 15 duid, I just started hunting in LOIO a few days ago, and as everyone says the EXP IS great. the best technique I've found is to find blue to yellow sabertooths, then snare and panic animal them. Just nuke away after that. I found the most plentiful supply around FV river. Also, as an alternative strategy, you can befriend one, and send it to attack the other, while doing what I mentioned above. I get great EXP this way, as after the pet's charm wears off, he'll be low on HP and you can killl him for EXP.

# Apr 19 2001 at 11:29 AM Rating: Default
I'm not too familiar with pallies, but I believe any level 20 will do well hunting the area between the the Windmill and the haunted ruins. Either pull to the SW side of the mill, or up on the hill South of the haunted ruins. Any Red to 20 MOB in this area can be taken down here easily with a full group with very lttle time between pulls. Even 4 20-23's. With a full group our puller would start looking for another MOB to pull when the one we had was almost dead. This lead to a constant stream of reds. The only one that might be risky is the occational Greater Icebone Skelleton. He's around level 30.

If soloing, I recommend the area north of the Mill. Many Blue to Yellow Mobs in this area to a level 20, and barely any reds. Kiting however is very difficult. There are a ton of mobs that will aggro. And watch out for the Goblin Skirmishers, even though they will be green they will aggro and call all other gobs close by to help. They keep up with SoW, and will interrupt spells with bash. Not a huge danger because they don't hit too hard, but very annoying. I suggest killing sabertooth tigers, they'll drop a tooth every once in a while that sells for nearly 2pp to vendors.

Hope this helps

As a member of a guild, I would suggest you inquire yours for information that will further your levels. Unrest may not be appealling to alot of people but if you are lucky to "grow up" with others in your group -if you even grouped at all- then Dagnor's Cauldron would provide nice exp. And the docks is located in BB...take the shuttles on the left side of the docks. Once you get to firiona vie, get bound and head west outside the huge bridge along the shoreline. Vekis may be there waiting for you but that is something else you will need to find out on your own. There are also dangerous Drachnids who will be in your way. If however you do follow the waters upwards, you will zone into LOIO(lake of ill omen). Find someone who will take you to the mill where it is common for ppl to gather. Beware of trains there too for if noone helps you, you will not be able to hit a zone area. There are none close by. This area can suit one up until his higher twenties. It also offers nice loot. But I am sure a Ranger of the 17th season who doesn't know much of his own homelands will find this a challenge and will also need to get a map and run the area until it is familiar. HTH. (btw if you plan to solo expect things to hit you for 30 - 40 points a pop. And the cats do not back down once their HP is low....they will fight you til one of you dies.)Wish I was there.

ok, from personal experiance in this zone - i started here at lvl 25, as soon as kunark came out.
the biggest factor in this zone is the spacing - if you arent near a zone line, it will be difficult to avoid aggro's. even if you outrun a mob, i suggest you zone to clear out aggro. this also can clear out the random faction hits that occasionally happen in this zone.

damn useful city - and a useful set of zones. this also holds true for the goblins. the sarnak fort itself has 3 good camping points in my opinion. frontdoor, backdoor, and tower - the tower is the one accessed via the bridge near the backdoor. there are 5 spawns up there, and on a fairly fast timer, so you can only do it with a on-the-ball group, but the xp IS comprable to the treants in SK. inside the backdoor is a bit harder of a camping spot, and will only become useful if multiple groups invade the fortress - however once in there are some fairly useful spots full of adherants and such

note on loot drops - Some VERY nice loot for the level drops in this zone. for casters, you have the sarnak ceremonial dagger. range slot, +3 int/wis. for tanks, the sarnak earing of station. 5ac 5str, nodrop. other random loots are nice, with the bracer of the hidden (unlimited right click see invisible) and the harpoon of the deapths dropping here. sarnak avengers drop here.. (big golden lookin axe). though you wont really want to use it, since it not that good in the stats. lots of finely crafted and balanced weaponry drops off the skellys. loots from the higher lvl mobs can aslo include a few plat.

all these mobs are great SOLO experiace from about 27 through 31 - for all classes. warriors have an easy time soloing through lvl 30 at the skeleton ruins near the windmill. it's fast xp, and with bandaging and a bow you can usually win no matter what. yes, a sow greatly increases survival chance soloing, but it is not neccecary

spawning areas - nearer you get in to cabilis, the lower the level of the spawns. coming from the firiona vie zone, there are ruins to the left - the mobs inside are (usually) goblin warriors and battlemasters. to the right from firiona there is a ruined tower where goblin warriors and warlords spawn. as a general, the area between the warrior/warlord tower and the windmill spawns most of the higher level wanderers in the zone. they are fairly spaced out, but the nearer to the shore of the lake, the less mobs you will find - that makes the shoreline itself a reletivly safe spot to sit/heal/bandage/med.

notes on the lake:
big, and full of fun swimmy goblins. they drop the harpoon of the depths, also some good xp if you camp them.. which you can do starting in the mid 30's, with a group. i recommend having a experianced puller, and a chanter for crowd control, cause those suckers can get nasty. it's usually perfectly safe to swim over the surface of the lake, though, as long as no one is killing/training/being killed by the goblins.

level notes.
sarnak recruits - green at about 30-31
goblin warlords - green at 31- 32
sabretooth Grimalkins - green at 31-32
warboned skeletons - green at 29-30
iceboned skeletons - green at 31-32
charboned skeletons - green at 29-30
goblin warriors - green at 28-29-30

this is the information i've gained from experiance in this zone, post 25

______________________________________________

ok, i have since started a newbie charachter, and been playing around here, starting at lvl 15. it is easily possible to start here pretty much as soon as you get bind. for melee classes i recommend a bit higher lvl, due to the dangers of the run from firona vie (nothing sucks so much as geting killed, and attempting to run back to your corpse with about 5 drachnids in the way who think YOU would make a good lunch.) and of course for iksar charachters, you can go from level 1 and up.

notes on low lvl stuff

the windmill area is GREAT for lower lvls. avoid the skeleton house, kill low level sarnaks, gobs, and sabertooth tigresses. once you get moving on those, you should be able to lvl out of 15, NO BUFFS REQUIRED (if you are a druid, lol), in about two hours. the reason? yellow con tigress... hmm... snare..... fear.... hit with sword and nuke with ignite. gee, that was an easy half bubble. now go treeform and med.

notes on low lvl binding - don't bind at the stream/lake entrance now. vi put in some nice little surpises named pond sturgeons, approcx lvl 15, who just love to wander around OUT of the water. the may have fixed it by now. however, as you are entering the lake, on the leftside there is a nice high hill that nothing wanders ontop of. great spot to bind and med.

a good group for 18-22 would be doing tigers, undead, or random lower lvl goblins. at 23, all my previous notes apply.

post 32 - if you can get a GROUP and kill bloodgill goblins, it's fairly good xp.

hehe i've seen this zone be useful for over 25 levels now. don't go to oasis, don't go to south karnana. go here. you will not regret it.

update part two - Faction!

ok, for faction - once you have gained a duboius faction with the legion of cabilis, start saving and buying bone chips. 300 or so ought to do it. turn them in 4 at a time to
the guard by the cabilis entrance in feild of bone. this will fix your shadowknight, merchant, and shamen faction. after you get those two fixed you'll be close. next, go find a LARGE concentration of iksar bandits and the like, and kill them lots. i recommend the cave in field of bone and the cave in warslicks woods. this should eventually get you up to duboius with the swifttails(monks) and necros. to put it honestly, it's too much work.

I'm new to EQ and have just started hunting at the lake. I have picked up the following items and I wondered what they were for: skelton fist, heart of ice, warlord drawing pen and a worn charbone. Thanks for the information :)
RE: Anyone know what this stuff is?

skeleton fist is for an iksar monk quest. not sure of details

heart of ice is for the enchanter Illusion:Iksar quest. again, not sure of details

warlord drawing pen is for the 4th shamen cudgel quest. yet again, not sure of details.

check out the information on those items in the items database on this website.

About the skeleton fist, it is not for a monk quest. it is for some scaled gauntlets, SK and WAR I believe. it is iksar.
RE: can a lvl 6 necro
# Apr 21 2001 at 5:49 AM Rating: Default
I have to say that the lvl 19 necro is doing something wrong. He is correct in that it is harder for a level 19 as a few of the reds resist your spells and makes you pretty much useless. This, however, is almost totally cleared at 20. Groups sometimes can be hard to get into at the windmill, etc. But a competant necro can get by with skels and the like down by the shore, where it is safer. The one thing, camping in N Ro at the plat at lvl 19 is good if you wanna plevel a friend, but otherwise, good luck getting exp. Almost all the cons (except scarabs and the wandering mummy) are all green to you here. Lake of Ill Omen is an ECXELLENT place for solo/group hunting and looting.

I have not hunt in this zone enough to know it all, but i can say for sure that the zone to the right of the stream that comes from FV is a lot lower lvl than the one to the left. All mobs to the left cons at least blue to my 22 lvl druid, while only some of them cons blue to the right side, the mayority of them green. I think u can find a good place looking at the ill Omen map at Eqatlas web page, there u will see that the lvl of the mobs u will find depends on how closer u r to cabilis. In the zone between cabilis and the stream that leads to FV u can find what u r looking for, think there r places to camp indeed, like goblin ruins. Dont need to say that being a dwarf u should stay a little far from cabilis entrance cuz u maybe KOS there.

Hope this can help and use the eqatlas map, its very helpful.

asuran, nice suggestion, but ultimatly bad. if you go too far to the right, you run into cabilis.. and then you are screwed. however, go to the left, and the mobs are RIGHT in the level range. killing low level goblins and iksar, along with sabertooth tigresses will get you up levels quite quickly. see my post "the Zone as a whole" for a good bit of info about this zone. i'll repost it again, since it has gotten a bit down the list =)
