Once site of the city Veksar, this area is located in the center of Kunark and gets its name from the unfortunate demise of what once stood here.

Veksar sank into what is now the Lake of Ill Omen, and the area was overrun by the Sarnak Collective. Currently, the Iksars of Cabilis continue to do battle with the Sarnaks, fighting over the land.

A clan of Bloodgill Goblins occupies the lake outside of the fallen Veksar. To the northwest is a network of goblin caves which leads to Warsliks Woods. Roaming the entire area surrounding the lake are the wildlife native to Kunark and highly aggressive undead.

comp probs, xp really good?
# Jun 27 2001 at 4:38 PM Rating: Default
hi im a lvl 20 paladin, i still consider myself a little new to EQ. i have a computer problem that if im not lucky will take EQ to my bar on my computer about every half hour or, or hour, and i have to end up cntrl alt dlting EQ and getting back on again, so id like to know the exact time it takes on each boat trip(s) to LOIO so i can time it perfectly, as not to wake up in the middle of the ocean dead when i get back on.(Btw if anyone has or had this problem with thier comp and knows a solution please tell) and if i cannot go to LOIO, what other places give great xp and possibly loot for a lvl 20 paladin? any suggestions are appreciated thanks =)

A lot of people claim that when EQ minimizes, the progrtam is screwed. I have not found this to be the case. I can Alt-Tab back into all the time, no problem. Granted, you have to keep hitting Alt-Tab a good dozen times before it works, sometimes selecting other programs and then EQ again, but I have always been able to get EQ back eventually.

I have gone LD several times while on the boat to Kunark and when I get back into the game I am still on the boat. But since there is only one boat that goes back and forth, I often end up on my way back from Kunark. This is very annoying, but my point is that you probably will not end up in the ocean if you have computer problems. The game will just place you back on the boat, wherever it happens to be at the time.
money

This sorta goes along with my previous post. I can't seem to get money in LOIO. I started doing the battlemaster quest in high hopes of selling the armor for a lot but that never happened. What can I do to earn more money? BTW, I'm a lvl 20 human pally.
Faydark Ringmail
# Jun 27 2001 at 1:46 AM Rating: Decent
I've heard numerous times that the faydark ringmail armor pieces you get from the battlemaster quest sells for quite a bit. I've heard claims of up to 200pp a piece. However, i've been collecting them for a little bit and I have a hard enough time selling them for 20-30pp, let alone 200pp. It seems like no one knows what they are and are turned off by their low stats. Is this just because I'm selling them in FV and LOIO? Is there a specific zone or continent where they seem to sell for more?

I have a new idea that might be fun for mages that like to roleplay - the water mage. You would only use the water pet, not any of the other pets, and you would only fight in watery areas. I think that this would actually be doable, and I might try it out. Here is what it might look like for you hunting in only watery spots:

1-7 : your newbie zones, don't have to hunt in water spot yet
8-15 : wisps in erud's crossing, sirens in OOT, Jonah in Lake Rathe at level 12
16-23: gargoyles in OOT, birds in Lake Rathe, lots of things in Lake of Ill Omen, crocs on beach of Oasis
24-34: sisters/dwarves in OOT, bunch of things in Lake of Ill Omen
35-38: spectre groups in OOT and oasis, gorillas in timorous deep with a partner, a few things in lake of ill omen
39-48: soloing gorillas in timorous or high level goblins in Lake of Ill Omen, can group and do specs in Oasis and OOT, can solo Gornit on Seafury Island, can group in Kedge Keep
49-55: seafuries in OOT and raptors in Timorous Deep

You wouldn't have to hunt 100% of the time in water areas, but you COULD get from 8 to 55 in only watery areas and still be able to pick up great exp. and money (good money would be from wisps, gargoyles, and gornit). I didn't even list a lot of the other watery spots that are also good hunting. I think it would be a fun roleplaying challenge. Would anyone else try it?

This is kinda funny, I am a lvl 17 mage and have used the water pet since lvl 4. I have hunted in Tox forest(erudite newb zone) Blackburrow(water down in the bottom) WK Scarecrow field(right next to the river) and am now about to go to LOIO. I would like to know the names of the mobs I can get good group or solo xp off of. All help would be appriciated from this (Water Mage) ={D>---

New record for deaths in a day!
# Jun 13 2001 at 11:23 AM Rating: Decent
This place is horrible for my lvl 21 wizard. I died a total of 4 times within 6 hours of play. I had a good group camped at the platform in the sarnak fort. We were killing the sarnaks left and right until a sarnak dragon appeared. It resisted all our spells and eventually chased us down (I had sow) and whacked us to death.

Note: For any wizard 18-29 in this zone, GET A GROUP!!! You will not survive in soloing.

How about 3 times in about 5 minutes. Someone trained Proon to me in EK, got smashed...came back to bind point (near where Proon had killed me before), got smashed...came back to bind point, got smashed. Thankfully, by the fourth time, Proon had wandered off and forgotten about me. Needless to say, I still hold a grudge against the moron that trained that dumb cyclops on me! ^_^

Ok where do i go from BB I kno wthe shuttles but where from there and where can i get a bind past BB? I have friends waiting there on me do you think i will survive?
RE: 17 paly
# Jun 16 2001 at 8:17 AM Rating: Default
Okay, here is the whole way from BB to Lake of Ill Omen. First you take the shuttles (any of the 6 will do) and ride them. They will take you to Timorous Deep. Once in TD, your shuttle will take you to board onto a huge boat, called the Maidens Voyage. This will take you to Firiona Vie, about a 5 minute ride. Once you get off of the boat yell for a bind at the docks, which is where you are, or the bridge, and you will have to ask around for directions on that as FV is confusing. From the bridge, you have to go out of the city. Turn left and follow the lake until you see a river. Follow the river all the way up until you zone. But watch out for drachnids, I would highly reccommend getting a SoW if you are not high enough to kill the Drachnids. And thats it. Then your are there.

For wood elf druids only pretty much... (Git bak in yur jum-jum feelds boh!) Soloing here is great. Cast befriend animal on a tigress, have it beat up a suitable target, Run in occasionaly and take the hits to keep the pet from dieing then find a safe area to med up, wait for the pet to break the charm, snare it and cast terrorize animal. (Free hits anyone?) Firefist is highly reccomended here. Just keep laying on the fears and cast snare occasionaly and chase the animal down. This will rocket you through lvls 19 to 22 or so. Then just sort of shout for a group until about lvl 24. At that point (NEW SPELLS!!! YEAH!) Try to get a melee partner and hunt near the pillars. Use terrorize on the grimlikins and let the tank do the wacking. Grouping here is not half bad either. But in this zone, bad groups can literally mean 0 xp. If you are in such a group (Take about 10 minutes to feel the group out) One of two options can be taken. (This is an actual transcrpit)
Mithux: Ok we are waiting for Lali to get back from the overthere, then we can get some good xp.
Bunso: Yeah the camping spot is really Awsome xp!
Lali: Afk for some, Have to go eat dinner.
Pequin: So where is this camping spot?
Mithux: It's Right next to calabis.
Pequin: Who's are tank?
Bunso: I am.
/who Bunso
Bunso level 23 Rouge
Bunso: A friend of mine wants to join, hes getting on in a little bit...
Pequin: Can you just pull from here to Lali gets back?
Bunso: Ok... Pulling
Mithux: Dont just pull one we can take at least two.
Bunso: Weird... A sarnak necro or sk.. Its red, INC SARNAK REVRENT one per message
Pequin: Um... Guys, I gotta go, guild meeting...
See you all later.
You Have been removed from the group.
Casting gate...
Now, That was a small exageration, But, many of those things can and will happen in groups. The Second one is to run to a safe area then go AHH LD!!! And mash your power button. Stay out of loser groups and xp will go much faster! (DUH!)
My god, I've created a monster! Oh well, I'm sure someone will read this..
LOlO Good and bad sides
# Jun 05 2001 at 6:55 PM Rating: Default
LOlO is the best zone to lvl from 18-35.....Exceelent loot and exp. At 18 get a group around the windmill. DO NOT PULL FROM THE WEST OF THE WINDMILL. Pull from the valley in the east, that eventually reaches the lake. Tiger Goblins and Skels in that area are all around lvl 20. After hitting lvl 21 head to the sarnak fort and try to get a group. The best spot you can get at this lvl is the ledge. Be careful when soloing as monsters will aggro on everyone despite their faction. If you want good exp and money do the Faydark armor quest in FV. 4 Goblin Bracers.....After you hand in 4 Goblin Raider Beads,,,,,Each peice of Faydark armor goes for around 200pp.

The only bad thing about LOlO is the very bad lag and its poor location. This zone is surrounded by hell for all outsiders traveling to Kunark. Drac Spiders in FV Tons of giants in FM. Ceblis Guards to tht east. To go and hunt in this zone without a guide at first is suicide. Keep in mind you have a much better chance with giants than with the spiders as the spiders can root, cast sow on themselves, buff themselves and hit for 70+ damage.

Good luck and Happy hunting.

I'm a 45 bard and would like to kill the bloodgill goblins for my ancient coin (and the xp). I know I need a 'chanter, healer and tanks, but I don't know the layout of the underwater area or spawn-points. Swam around a bit and saw the temple, but couldn't find the entrance into it. Is there an ent? Would love to go back. Got a lot of xp with the monk and ranger that were helping me scout it out. Any info would be appreciated.

ok, from personal experiance in this zone - i started here at lvl 25, as soon as kunark came out.
the biggest factor in this zone is the spacing - if you arent near a zone line, it will be difficult to avoid aggro's. even if you outrun a mob, i suggest you zone to clear out aggro. this also can clear out the random faction hits that occasionally happen in this zone. usually this is just delayed aggro deaths of mobs you've outrun or somesuch, but it can be actually bugged sometimes.

the sarnak fort itself has 3 good camping points in my opinion. frontdoor, backdoor, and tower - the tower is the one accessed via the bridge near the backdoor. there are 5 spawns up there, and on a fairly fast timer, so you can only do it with a on-the-ball group, but the xp IS comprable to the treants in SK. inside the backdoor is a bit harder of a camping spot, and will only become useful if multiple groups invade the fortress - however once in there are some fairly useful spots full of adherants and such. now, there are two enterances to the goblin mines. the one closer to cabilis, if you follow the right wall, will lead you on to Warsliks woods - an interesting giant fort there, with a good puller the xp would be good, and chance for nice loot drops.

note on loot drops - Some VERY nice loot for the level drops in this zone. for casters, you have the sarnak ceremonial dagger. range slot, +3 int/wis. for tanks, the sarnak earing of station. 5ac 5str, nodrop. other random loots are nice, with the bracer of the hidden (unlimited right click see invisible) and the harpoon of the deapths dropping here. sarnak avengers drop here.. (big golden lookin axe). though you wont really want to use it, since it not that good in the stats. lots of finely crafted and balanced weaponry drops off the skellys. loots from the higher lvl mobs can aslo include a few plat.

all these mobs are great SOLO experiace from about 27 through 31 - for all classes. warriors have an easy time soloing through lvl 30 at the skeleton ruins near the windmill. it's fast xp, and with bandaging and a bow you can usually win no matter what. yes, a sow greatly increases survival chance soloing, but it is not neccecary

spawning areas - nearer you get in to cabilis, the lower the level of the spawns. coming from the firiona vie zone, there are ruins to the left - the mobs inside are (usually) goblin warriors and battlemasters. to the right from firiona there is a ruined tower where goblin warriors and warlords spawn. as a general, the area between the warrior/warlord tower and the windmill spawns most of the higher level wanderers in the zone. they are fairly spaced out, but the nearer to the shore of the lake, the less mobs you will find - that makes the shoreline itself a reletivly safe spot to sit/heal/bandage/med.

notes on the lake:
big, and full of fun swimmy goblins. they drop the harpoon of the depths, also some good xp if you camp them.. which you can do starting in the mid 30's, with a group. i recommend having a experianced puller, and a chanter for crowd control, cause those suckers can get nasty. it's usually perfectly safe to swim over the surface of the lake, though, as long as no one is killing/training/being killed by the goblins.

level notes.
sarnak recruits - green at about 30-31
goblin warlords - green at 31- 32
sabretooth Grimalkins - green at 31-32
warboned skeletons - green at 29-30
iceboned skeletons - green at 31-32
charboned skeletons - green at 29-30
goblin warriors - green at 28-29-30
Sabertooth Tigers - green at 24
Sabertooth Tigresses - Green at 22

this is the information i've gained from experiance in this zone, post 25

update - part 1

ok, i have since started a newbie charachter, and been playing around here, starting at lvl 15. it is easily possible to start here pretty much as soon as you get bind. for melee classes i recommend a bit higher lvl, due to the dangers of the run from firona vie (nothing sucks so much as geting killed, and attempting to run back to your corpse with about 5 drachnids in the way who think YOU would make a good lunch.) and of course for iksar charachters, you can go from level 1 and up.

notes on low lvl stuff

the windmill area is GREAT for lower lvls. avoid the skeleton house, kill low level sarnaks, gobs, and sabertooth tigresses. once you get moving on those, you should be able to lvl out of 15, NO BUFFS REQUIRED (if you are a druid, lol), in about two hours. the reason? yellow con tigress... hmm... snare..... fear.... hit with sword and nuke with ignite. gee, that was an easy half bubble. now go treeform and med.

notes on low lvl binding - don't bind at the stream/lake entrance now. vi put in some nice little surpises named pond sturgeons, approcx lvl 15, who just love to wander around OUT of the water. the may have fixed it by now. however, as you are entering the lake, on the leftside there is a nice high hill that nothing wanders ontop of. great spot to bind and med.

a good group for 18-22 would be doing tigers, undead, or random lower lvl goblins. at 23, all my previous notes apply.

post 32 - if you can get a GROUP and kill bloodgill goblins, it's fairly good xp.

hehe i've seen this zone be useful for over 25 levels now. don't go to oasis, don't go to south karnana. go here. you will not regret it. well, unless of course it's too crowded for ya to get a group. =/

_________________________________
update part two - Faction!

ok, for faction - once you have gained a duboius faction with the legion of cabilis, start saving and buying bone chips. 300 or so ought to do it. turn them in 4 at a time to
the guard by the cabilis entrance in feild of bone. this will fix your shadowknight, merchant, and shamen faction. after you get those two fixed you'll be close. next, go find a LARGE concentration of iksar bandits and the like, and kill them lots. i recommend the cave in field of bone and the cave in warslicks woods. this should eventually get you up to duboius with the swifttails(monks) and necros. to put it honestly, it's too much work.

__________________________
update part 3!!

this zone is, to put it mildly, WAY overcrowded now. my suggestion - go back to south karana and do some gnolls for a while, or hit cazic-thule, or upper guk, or any number of the other zones in the game. on average there are 115 players in this zone by midafternoon on Cazic-Thule server. if you've never done anywhere else, go explore the rest of the world - there is alot out there that you are missing out on if you only fight here.

anyhow, for useful info... wait, i've edited the actuall message. you might want to read through...

This place by far is the biggest Pull Stealing zone I have ever been in. Not Kill Stealing, because I don't think stealing a pull is intentional. You will also be driven crazy by the OOC chatter.

Okay, when you are ready to solo or pull, do the following:
/shout An Ill OMEN Reminder: Stationary mobs are probably mezzed or rooted, Running Mobs are probably being pulled. Walking MOBS are usually the safe ones to attack. Please to do attack rooted or running mobs.

Learn to run backwards when pulling. People will steal your mob from you. Don't out run them, people will steal your mob from you. Running backwards lets you watch what is happening to your mobs.
ROOTING/SNARING, don't med too far away from the mob. KITING: Do a shout that you are kiting, and what you are kiting. Maybe set up a SAY hot key.
/say I am KITING a %T, if you can read this, be careful of what you are attacking.

Well .. Idiots? Not sure about that blatant generalization. I am a lvl 14 Hum warrior, and I arrived at the Mill last night. I solo'd.. YES, I said SOLO'd.. some of the lower level spawns in the area while waiting for others of my guild to show up to group with... Now if I, at level 14, can get a few kills on my own, I don't see why the average 16-18 lvl char can't solo it too....

Granted ... I will not be soloing if I don't have too.. you can do a lot more in the safty of a group, and you spend less down time... heh .. I know I'm pushing my luck to be out there at this lvl... but.. then again .. I don't plan on staying this level much longer.. *grin*

Hi! I'm a lvl 19 halfling druid and heared the exps in LOIO are great, oki so I "only" have to travel there. I'll port to Butcherblock and will take a boat. Can anybody tell me a bit more about the boat and what I have to look at during the journey and the second thing I'd like to know is if they will like me when arriving in Firiona Vie or if they will just kill me :( thank's a lot for taking a bit time helping me !!
RE: halfling druid's first boat trip
# May 22 2001 at 7:57 PM Rating: Decent
The boat trip is rather lengthy so expect a wait before you reach shore. I just got here myself but a few tips for what they are worth.

On landing head left and find the river. Follow this until you Zone into LOIO. If the cautious type use camoflauge to get to the zone as creatures along river will con red. Once in LOIO look for a group that is either at the fort or the goblin mines. The fort has a higher spawn rate from what I have seen.

Good luck.

Take the little shuttles from the docks at Butcherblock Mountains on the left side of the docks. If they are not there, wait for them. Then the shuttles will take you to a bigger boat, called the Maiden's Voyage. Board that and that will take you to Firiona Vie's city. You will not be killed on sight there, unless you have really bad faction with elves and dwarves. You can probably find a passport to lake of ill omen from there, good luck!

Whoever said getting there is half the fun never tried a boat ride on EQ. Getting to LOIO can be a pain in the butt. To be safe, get bound near Butcherblock, you may need it. In the past I have been switched to a shuttle just leaving the Maidens Voyage when my arriving shuttle sailed right through it, been thrown off the side of the ship when it made a shapre turn, been dumped onto the bow of the ship (right at the waterline) when the shuttle pasted too close to it (roade the bow all the way back to Fiona Vie along with 2 others) and I have gone Zone dead trying to get in and out of the Butcherblock zone more times then i can count. Just thought I'd warn ya's. I know I'm not alone in this, so please, plan on having a few delays during your baot trips to and from this awsome lake of xp, loot and mayhem. :)
