Castle Mistmoore is home base for the vampire followers of Mayong Mistmoore. With only one zone-in/out, it's not uncommon to see some massive trains here.

Interestingly enough, it is possible to make yourself non-KOS to the castle's residents through faction work (in doing so, however, you'll make enemies out of the League of Antonican Bards and Ring of Scale).

Note: For the higher level revamp version of this zone (available only in special events - usually branded as "Hardcore Heritage", running several weeks in the spring and/or summer), click here.

2016 update to Castle Mistmoore solo

Castle Mistmoore is a very fun zone that can be quite challenging for level appropriate characters. The following is just some tips on how to grab some fast lower levels solo with a merc for people returning to the game or just getting started. Most of the tips can be applied to any zone below level 40.

First things first... level your character to 15. At 15 get the most HP you can by buying twink items or defiant gear. Do not skimp on the food and water, those 2 items alone can get you an additional 330 health with Merchant's brew and Raxil fish from level 1.

Next step - stock up on potions. At 15 you should have Distillate of Skinspikes III, and every 5 levels you can get a new one that does more damage. These are very important as the damage shield will out damage you and your merc put together. So take a small stack of lvl 15, 20 and 25 skinspikes which can be made by a shaman or purchased in the bazaar. The western trader building in PoK has a female vah shir that sells potions where you can get haste, buff, and healing pots. Grab some haste pots for levels 15 - 25 and I like the heal over time pots because they do more healing than the direct heal and both are on the same timer so it doesn't benefit you to use both. Be sure to get some Spider's Bite I, II and III as well from a rogue or from the bazaar. Bite I procs 60 times on any weapon, any class for 65 dmg. Bite II does around 140 direct damage... and so on.

If you hate begging for buffs then get a cleric merc. Log them in and they buff you with level appropriate buffs. Dismiss, or keep them in a separate merc slot, and use the tank merc when fighting. Along the way be sure to zone out every level or two so that your merc can level up. As you near 30 he will get tougher and tougher and eventually can solo the whole zone himself around 35.

MM is an outdoor zone so you can mount up and take advantage of the mana/health regen and movement speed. At 15 stay near the zone line, you may need it. The mobs almost always come in 2 or 3, but as long as you let the merc pick them up it is no problem. Have the merc beat one down to 90%, then target another one and he will switch over to it and beat it down to 90%, then the third. At this point you can step in and get agro from the merc one mob at a time. If you have enough health just tank all 3 of them. The skinpikes takes them out fast and you get 10-15% of the level per kill. It goes seriously fast. You can easily get from 15-26 in 2 hours.

Work the front area and dont forget the 2 gargoyles. After clearing it a few times you will be in your lower 20's and ready to move back to the grave yard. I eventually just run from the entrance back through the grave yard and then start over for levels 23-26. Heading back further than the grave yard is a little tough until 27 or so. The mobs are higher and they can come in packs. At 25, in the grave yard, you will still see 5-8% of a level per kill on the even or higher cons. There is a named shadow man behind the building in the grave yard that drops a robe. Really the toughest part of all of this are the healers that spawn in the cemetery. If you have good burst dps they are easy, but for most classes its more about letting the merc beat on them until they run out of mana. It can take a few minutes, but they eventually die. Just keep them agro'd on the merc.

Dont sweat it if you get 3 yellows and a red on you. The merc can handle a lot and if things appear to be going south just make a dash for the zoneline. A long train like that can help you spread the mobs out and clear a tough area just by zoning out and back in to get them to reset. Heal up and pop back into zone and usually half of them are headed back to their spot... zoneline splitting... fun fun. I tend to get a little aggressive and end up running for the zone a few times.

At 15 you stocked up on Rough defiant gear and twink items. At 26 go get your upgrades to Ornate defiant gear and restock on potions. And don't just delete the old defiant gear, your tribute master will gladly take it, and it all adds up to thousands of tribute as you level up.

Camping in front of the castle can take you up into the mid 30's if you want to hang around that long. The pulls can be crazy sometimes, but that's part of the fun. And if someone was really serious about dungeon crawling the whole zone you could solo here until 40 with good xp the whole way. The zone was well thought out and is a lot of fun to learn.

Hope this helps!

The page describing the level 100 revamp version of this zone states that the level 100 revamp lasts until September 10, 2014.

Listed above on this page, it states that it lasts through September 16, 2014.

Does anyone know which date is actually the case?

this is a fun zone... the layout is pretty cool, with lots of false walls and hidden passages... while i was here, i found the fastest money was in the gargoyl eyes that drop off of almost every gargoyl you kill... at 9pp and change ea. colecting stacks of these is easy to do... also look out for the raw runic hides that drop off the albino vampire chicks (the ones with the old school graphics)... as these hides are used in research...

Exp Bonuses
# Dec 29 2007 at 4:52 PM Rating: Decent
This zone is by far the best place to get level 20 to at least 30. The EXP bonus is amazing.
I have made several toons being bored with my main lately and the days of grinding to level 50 are over. I have gotten several toons to level 50 and beyond in about a week with the new exp bonus in these great zones.

I recommend even if you've found your main to explore the different classes of Everquest. It's a great way to have fun, meet new friends, and just get back into the roll of exploration.

Ahh.... Mistmoore...

I miss the days.

This is where I learned to truly play my class
(Druid) and to play well in a group. I came back later and
grouped a lot with my warrior. Great experiences both times.
Truly is one of my favorite zones from days of yore.
I never worked my way up to hunt in the castle
(better zones by then)
but this place will always have good memories.
Such as being charmed by some undead wench and walking
back with her to the castle (ulp!) and mercifully
having charm break before getting there and zoning
before the mobs realized I was free.
(happened more than once)
I also remember winning the roll for my first MM shield...
ah... it was great back in the day...

I was a little depressed when i saw it locked to but you dont need the key. You can get in the long way through the castle lots of mobs to kill but for lvl 70 no problem. Took me about 20 minutes.

The secret passge that is mentioned in the posts is in the jail room and that leads to the lift you need to get into the tower.

Alrighty folks I need some help,
From what I have read, CM was revamped sometime January 2005 and apparnetly quite harder than it use to be. Then it was changed back to its original state in October 2005. We can all tell by this page alone that its original state was very mid-level content, 20-45ish in level max. I went to CM last night (3-1-06) to get an item for a spell and to get the hilt of soulfire for my epic. Low and behold I popped in there and before I know it I am getting whacked for 550+...I cannot find any information on another revamp of this zone anywhere, obviously it is not in its original state. One Paladin I talked said it might have something to do with PoR being released though I could find no written verifcation of that, can anyone fill in the gaps here? BTW don't be a ****** and pretend you know everything, go check it out before you post that it has gone back to its original state because it is not, it is much like a tier 2/3 PoP zone, certainly not original.

RoS faction
# Aug 02 2005 at 8:43 AM Rating: Decent
45 posts
Donbayne is exactly right. Lemme tell ya - i was VERY happy to have JUST finished my VP key and the faction needed right before this zone changed. Let me elaborate on the time consumption of this project.

To raise faction for RoS , myself and my partner would sit at the ent to the castle, while i literally pulled every single mob from inside the castle to the front door. Im talking a good 20-25 mobs , mebbe more. I would bring this huge train of greenies to the front ent , and we would commence to kiling them. It was very easy and we definitly found ourselves wandering outside the castle just to keep killing mobs. This went of for three days until my faction FINALY raised to a non-kos status....but thats not it - cuz you still need amiable faction to do VP quests. After a solid week with a minimum of 1 hour a night slaying dozens and dozens of mobs - my faction finally made it to amiable.

Now there are 12 guys scattered thru Lfay to kill to try and up faction? I will bet all the rice in china Xeraxis never did these quests or raise this faction or he would have thought twice about defending Sony. This was pure idiocy. VP quests are pretty much off the table now - as it would take Weeks and weeks to work up the proper faction killing 12 guys scattered in camps across the zone.

This ranks right up there with , "Lets do GM events constantly in an arena thats 5 zones away but not install a port-stone to get there for a few years" .....thats brilliant! Or how about "Lets unlock all the zones that people worked their butts off to get into - and let anyone in !!!" - good thing no one thought of *backflagging* when developing this content originally.

Mistmoore use to be a great place for lower levels to exp- and a great place for RoS faction. Plus its a neat zone and it was nice when one was able to wander thru freely and see the zone. So they killed off a faction - killed off a good exp place for youngins- probably really screwed up some peoples epics (i know the pally epic 1.0 had apiece drop in MM) and i think the last thing in the world Sony needed to do was jack this zone up. I dont know anyone that goes there- not for exp or loot. Why would someone when they can get great armor with aug slots from DoN's and great augs out of DoN/ Omens / Gates , not to mention better exp in other places.

Sony should have stuck to fixing things the player base has asked for. Of all the things people petition about , and post about , and would like to see changed - i did not ever see anyone complain about mistmoore being a low level dungeon - and that it needed to be revamped. Yet - this is what Sony decided to put effort into. Good job. Way to please your player base!! Three cheers!!!

Donbayne i couldnt agree with you more. Taking the RoS faction out of MM all together and not giving people an alternative source to raise that faction has rendered ANOTHER zone useless - unless you want to trash your RoS faction and simply go into VP to kill. All Sony had to do was keep RoS faction in MM (wow , that might have been incentive for people to GO to this zone) or made another area with lots of mobs to kill to raise the faction. wtg sony

They originally gave Ring of Scale faction, not Claws of Veeshan faction.
Now they don't give faction for either.
Instead, the twits have added a retarded quest that takes a **** strong group or raid to do, whereas before, RoS faction could be gotten here solo.
Thanks for nothing, imbecile developers, the purpose of removing the faction hits was to do what exactly?
Put back the faction for RoS in Mistmoor.

You are aware that if you're lucky you will have less than two dozen of those ROS adjusting mobs in the zone per spawn cycle (and scattered across three camps at that? This has made an already agonizing faction to adjust even more unbearable and a hundred times more time consuming.

The person who griped about this has every reason to do so. And maybe you should think about where he's coming from before you get up on your soap box with your snide remarks.

The Devs really screwed the pooch on this one. What a pain. Just think how much fun EQ would be if all that effort was put into fixing bugs from the past six years instead of sabotaging decent zones.

It was dark one evening. I had just made it to the entrance of the crypt of mistmoore. Being a cleric I relished in the thought of destroying the plans the Vampires had to attack our small home in Faydark.

I called my magical friend. He practiced the arts of necromancy, and he had just learned to conjure bones into a mighty warrior.

We rested a while, waiting till nightfall to sneak into their layer and take them out, one by one.

Once we reached the kings room, and we had slaughtered a fourth of their army, we were faced with a grave danger.

The danger was that the king was lazy and fat. We were use to attacking swift vampire who we called the earth to grab to hold in place. But what do we do about a big king who can attack us no matter where we stand, we wouldn't be able to use magical spells when his arms are waving in our face, interrupting our casting.

We thought he wouldn't be bright enough, so we attacked him.

We soon regretted that action as after we did that we had every living vampire come after us in the whole crypt.

The trail of bodies lead them to us.

I ran for my ever loving light, asking for invincibility from tunare. While the Necromancer feigned death and snuck out later.

It was the greatest day of my life, because I stole the king’s dinner.

Gday Everyone reading this post

My self and a mate have been leveling up a couple of characters here for the past week. I started there with a lvl 16 mage, he a lvl 24 necro.

Twin boxing my lvl 65 cleric there for pulls and heals I can confirm the posts by others here that no matter what lvl you are, you WILL pull mobs either by proximity to them or getting adds when you try to pull single mobs, this appears to be in a line of sight type arrangement, so if the mob could see you pulling one of its friends then it will usually add.

The mobs here are very social and if they are in range to help their brothers and sisters they will add, usual pull is 4 mobs, sometimes 5 depending on pathing issues etc, most mobs wont agro through walls.

The zone is split pretty much into three disticnt areas and the lvl range of mobs is pretty set for the areas. I have found the mobs con from dark blue to red based on a lvl 20 character.

The first area is from the ZI to the Graveyard, mobs will be blue to red, some casters among this lot.

Second area from the Graveyard to the Castle, Mobs will be mostly red to your lowbie, start to yellow out towards lvl 30. Casters and healers, the Warders and Aegis seem to be the healer types, kill these first in your trains to make it easier on yourself.

Third area is the Castle itself. Red everywhere to lvl 20, some blue to red for lvl 30, same variety as outside castle.

Tips, use a DS or reverse DS on mobs if you can, have some kind of snare or root ability, runners will bring adds flooding back to you.

Keep your pets in check if you are using them, had a couple of times where pet chased off after a mob only to bring back up to 5 mobs to camp area, this is more a problem beyond the GY.

Get to know the zone, especially the paths through the castle and from the castle to the ZL, nothing worse than taking a wrong turn and adding mobs to your nice train.

Last word of warning, be prepared to die, or to sacrifice your lowbie if you are powerleveling as sometimes trains will grow and believe me, ten mobs nuking and beating on your lvl 65 makes a bit of dent in the hitpoint line.

Loot is mediocre, some mobs drop up to 5 plat and FS wpns but if you go there expecting uber loot, you will be disappointed.
Experience wise the zone is great, in the 5 or 6 hours me and my mate have been in the zone, my Mag has gone from lvl 16 to lvl 24, and my mates necro has gone from 24 to 32.

I was just wondering. I have a 61 necro and am having fun experimenting in zones I used to be too chicken to wander through alone. Can a 61 necro safely explore this zone without getting overrun? I was having fun earlier running through Guk etc. What mobs should I avoid here or should I avoid the zone altogether? It's abandoned on my server for the most part. (I could also bring a 62 cleric with me if that would help.)

Thanks in advance for any and all responses.

I'm a 65 Warrior and I solo the place without any problems at all, a 61 Necromancer shouldn't have any issues that I could think about. The only problem, as Crimzon mentioned, would be potential adds, but a Necromancer won't have adds with their Darkness line.

Zeep you shouldn't have too much trouble here being your a lv61 especially now since the 'Dark Huntress' isn't as high as she use to be. You might want to bring the cleric along for some fun too. Only problem you 2 might have is getting too many adds, if something gets away from you, they tend to bring the whole castle back with them so the cleric might not want to AoE unless you guys going to drag the whole castle out for the cleric to AoE. I've seen a high lv cleric and wizard pull they whole zone to the zone line and then kill it. And some of the vamps at night can do a fear/mezz/stun somewhat effects along those lines at lower levels. Also some of the vamps will suck your stamina dry, but with no stamina bar anymore I couldn't tell you on that. Also make sure you get your resists as high as you can, at night in the castle just about everything casts. You might want to check out the beastiary link at the top of the page for the heck of it so you know what you'll be up against.

P.S. If the named dark elf quest NPC is still in Mistmoore zone, don't mess with her, she is massively underconned. Funny seeing her kill lv 50+ people who are foolish enough to mess with her.

Ill probably try it today, but any help/hints would be very much appreciated, as Im not even sure I can do it at this level.

My friend, a level 61 enchanter, and my twink wizzard (29) have been doing a lot of area effecting. We like old school dungeon's because most are not crowded and tend to give great exp with getting in other people's way. Upper Guk basically dried out within the last level or 2 and we've decided to try MM. Went on raids here with my main (61 SK) when i was level 30 or so, but frankly don't remember much. Anyone agree or disagree about this being a good place to area effect? (if u don't know what AE'ing is, basically u aggro a HUGE group of mobs <25-50 or so> and then group then up, area effect stun, and area effect nuke <with point blank area effects of course>) says trains are far to frequent and that most pulls are never single, so sounds like a great place to me. feedback if u feel like it, anything is appreciated.

Well I fell in some trap by the tomb looking for entrance to jail. Since I was solo, and not very high level for the area and already down to 50 percent health at this point. (44 warrior) and no one else in zone but me, I logged off right away and came back to restudy map. I didnt recall seeing any trap or pit. Anyways, now to the point. How do I get out. Yes you can solo this zone. Just like everyone says if you are smart. I have a 36 Ranger and do fine in the graveyard. The casters do tend to open a can of whoop **** on you but with full mana and full health they go down just as easy. The other night my 26 monk, 17 Cleric and a friend 26 Bard hunted the yard trash. It started out very unpleasant like, only about 8 deaths between the three of us. All due to lack of patience. If you are patitent the yard trash is good exp for 26 and below. (Still not sure about above 26). After we got our corpses back, we set up camp on the hill behind the pond. There are 3 groups of 2 spawns around the pond. If you space yourself between the two closest to the zone you can med and heal undisturbed. The casters hurt like **** but in a matter of 2 hours my clerice dinged 18 from being only 1 blue in 17. Exp is great and the loot is alright. Be careful of the tower though the gargs dispell and hurt a little. Just my two cents.

Campin the entry hall

we tried to camp the entry hall a few days ago, and its simply impossible. the moment you enter the hall one of the mobs in the back will start to wander into the ballroom and then into the ambassador room, and two minutes after our two 35-40 grps had set foot into entry, youll face like 20 mobs at once, and youll stand no chance, we were wiped out, 12 people, in like 20 seconds.
ill place a bet that VI made that wandering mobs AI to act just like it does - alerting the whole castle that someone has just entered through the front door. which IMHO is a great design idea :)
so id guess u have to take the secret graveyard entrance if u want to make it into the castle.

The entry hall is not impossible. When we used to hunt in MM, we would clear the landing on top of the ledge from the pit, and then pull from the entrance. Once the hall is cleared, we would camp in there and pull from the Embassador/Ball room.

Try Befallen - the Necromancers there drop blood - Human, Gnome & Dark Elf.

Also StudentOfLife is quite correct, the assassins to the left past the hole in the wall in Misty Thicket are Dark Elves & drop the blood :)

Ahhhhh Dark elf blood is easy to aquire even at level 12 just outside and to the left of the wall gate in Misty Thicket. Them little halflings need it for armor quests. Keep clear of the wall guards if you're evil and it will be easy.

No, no elf blood here. If you want someplace besides Timmorous Deep, try sister island in the Ocean of Tears. However, from all I've heard of comparison drop rates of elf blood in TD and OOT, TD is supposed to be a much higher rate. I know from experience how entirely rare elf blood in OOT is, but it does drop. Fairly comparable to the drop date on essences of shadows, imho. Overall, settle yourself in, you're going to be there for awhile. Oh the joys of cultural smithing.

Hmmm I can't say I've seen the Dark Elves drop any kind of blood at all except for Vampire Blood from the Glyphed Ghoul. The only liquid like substances I've seen are the Thick Caustic Fluid and the Essences of Moonlight, and I've hunted all through the Graveyard, Jail and into the Castle itself.

Solo jail as 39 ranger
# May 20 2002 at 11:03 AM Rating: Excellent
I started soloing the jail while hunting the Crested Spaulders at 39, and I've stuck around because it's easy to get to and rarely camped, and nice XP and loot. The riskiest part for me solo is breaking the jail spawn, especially if there are multiple casters locked up. They will nuke you for 100-150 a pop as soon as you drop invis in the jail, even through the doors.

But the inmates don't chase you to nuke. So to break the spawn I always run to the stairs and pick off the wanderer (PH for the caitliff) first. If I'm getting nuked I'll lead the wanderer out to Ssynthi and finish her there. The jailed ones won't follow, and I can med and heal up in relative safety next to Ssynthi (who is completely non-agro), using hide and/or invis.

Then back to the jail to target and finish off the inmates one at a time. Again, if I'm getting nuked by an add I might run outside in the middle to quickly heal up, then come back and finish off the first. Then repeat for the second and third, with more med/heal time out with Ssynthi as needed.

Once the spawn is broken and spaced it's easy (almost boring) to keep the jail clear. When I'm having no trouble keeping fm and fully buffed, I'll pick off the graveyard trash too. Not much xp from graveyard trash at 40 but there is usually at least 2pp of loot on each.

In about 6 hours of camping the jail on and off, I looted a nearly full set of bronze, the rune for the ivy helm, black silk gloves, 3 crested spaulders, and about 400pp of plat and other sell-to-vendors loot. I also died 4 times (3 times breaking the spawn early on whilest perfecting my technique /blush, and once by the only train I've ever seen in that part of Mistmoore). But despite the deaths I'm up a level and a half, and overall pretty happy about the return for my effort.

Once you are in jail, look at the two doors in the back of the jail. To your left will be one closed door, ahead two closed doors, and to the right one closed door.

Open the door on your right. All three jail doors will open.

Then target one of the mobs. Close the door on your right. All three jail doors will close.

Have your friends /assist you. You now all have one of the three on target. Now nuke the target's £$$ off.

Rinse and repeat.

Be careful of nukes from inside, and keep magic, cold and fire resists up all the time.

How does the jail work?

I'm helping a group mate of mine complete the Tunare Warden quest. To do this, we need to kill the Dark Offerer. I understand that she will occasionally spawn in the jail. It is also my understanding that there is a way to trap a spawned MOB in the jail and just nuke it out. However, I am still unclear on how the jail works.

There is supposed to be a door that you open or close, which in turn opens or closes the doors so the MOBs can't leave it's cell.

Any advice on the jail or how to take down the dark offerer would be most welcome.

Hello... I have camped in MM quite often for good xp and some decent loot.
First, know the area you are hunting in
2nd...make that train hotkey :)

Ok... I am a very careful player and started there with lvl 38 or so...(non-twinked)
I cast camo on me an run to the graveyard. At the opposite site of the entrance there are 2 mobs standing next to 2 graves. This I kill first and med/heal there then , using camo or hide.
If you want you can pick some more guards there and kill them quite easily till respawns...8 mins.I think. After i have enough mana i recamo and pass through the secret wall nearby, pass through the jail room (only an undead will see you there and its quite rare) and climb the first set of stairs after the second secret wall.
On this stairs spawns only one mob every 20 mins or so and you wont get adds if you dont leave the stairs. The undead i mentioned earlier spawns on the stairs and walks from jail room to the top of the stairs and back.He is the only one who can see you there but you should be able to take him out. My target is the avenging caitiff, a weak sucker who is a rare spawn on the stairs. he has a nice loot and I check him everytime i am near MM. Beside the undead and the caitiff there can spawn deathly ushers, harbingers, and one caster type..all soloable...just NEVER forget snare or to stay on the stairs. When you killed the caitiff or his PH, get back to the graveyard and keep hunting there till will need the time for medditation.
This is not the rambo way but i spend about 30 hours total there and didnt die once (but i died several times in group :) )
Its just a safe soloing place with nice loot...
but not for powerleveler.

Mayong Mistmoore is a GM run MOB. He only spawns when run by Brad McQuaid. The rumor is that he spawns on Brad's sons' birthdays for a few hours. What those days are, I don't know. Now that Brad left Verant I don't know how Mayong is being handled. It may be that Brad still runs him. Frankly, I have not heard any word of Mayong appearing in the last 12 months. But, MM is not camped all that often anymore.

I'm 52 now, and unsure whether I'll still die. Some stuff that was lblue might be green, but it seems that everything agros there. Is it possible for a ranger to camp the maid solo?

Raided this place earlier today with an allied guild, i'd say for a successful raid you'd need 3-4 groups of about level 35 45 with some 50+ tank or healer mixed in, this is what we did and it worked great, we has some casualties but we had cleric to rez, nother thing i'd never do this without a ENCHANTER, very helpful, as far as strategy goes, i'd stay in the entry room in castle, first room when you walk in, and have a DSed 50+ tank pulling, have them pull into room, one thing that works very good is to have all casters keep a point blank area effect spell nuke, we had about 10 casters that had these spells, all about 150 to 300 dmg, with each one casting we could slay everything in the room, even in bad pulls (15+ things) in a short ammount of time. make sure the tank (puller) knows the zone very well and is buffed up pretty good, also some of the pathing on mobs is really bad, especially caitiff and advisor, may need to lead 'em a bit when pulling, k, hope that helped, this strategy worked great for us

One good group of mid to high 40's can do just about anything in the castle. You have to have an enchanter, a cleric, and a plate tank. If you know each other and have your roles down, you can have a **** of a time in here. We did :)

The only thing we avoided was the Ambasador room - just too many mobs in there.

Hehe our group of RL friends cracked Ambassador room for the first time last night after a couple of wipeouts and evacs - there are a LOT of mobs to kill but we did it :) Group is: 43 war, 41 pally, 41 bard, 35 cleric, 35 druid and 34 monk. Cracking this room is an epic experience for a low 40's group - a rush like no other :)

We also attempt front entrance breaks with varying success but it is far better to invis until you get to the rooms you want to fight in. Also pulling is silly in the castle - better to fight the mobs in place, crawling from room to room.

Ambassador room and ballroom together is next challenge - we did real well during a wipeout (will check logs but I think we killed 2/3 of the ton of stuff that came) but bard didn't have AoE Mez memmed - should be xciting :)

PS: some of the mobs charm (negotiator etc) so be prepared to "lose" some of your group for a while...

It sounds like Toneth went in the Front Door and Badhandle went in the back door. Cause I'm here to tell ya that one group of 40's can't enter the front door without pulling the Ambassador room.

The first time I raided MM, I had 18 people ranging from 30th lvl to 45th lvl. We tried the front door. After clearing the Entry Hall we set up camp there. We tried to pull selective sections of the first floor, but ONE MOB has terrible pathing and when it aggro's, it winds its way backwards and eventually through the Ambassador room. That mob is just beyond the Entry Hall. From the EH south, between the two stair cases, is a short tunnel. Just beyond the tunnel are two mobs in the hallway. One to the left and one to the right. The mob to the right, when it sees you, will run south (away from you), run around the Gypsy room, turn East, enter the Ambassador room from the South, exit it from the North, then finally make its way to the Entry hall. All said and done, there are 20 mobs it encounters on that path.

Like I said, that was the FIRST time I raided MM.

The second time I had one 9 people. 1 group of four people with an average lvl of 30 and another group of 5 with an average lvl of 40. The main group had a 38 warrior, 42 rogue, 46 druid, 37 enchanter and 42 cleric.

I decided to keep both groups outside the castle, with the puller bringing mobs from the Entry Hall. No problem. Then, when it was time to pull "THE MOB" (w/the bad pathing), I went inside the castle with the puller and we basically zerged that mob and slowly walked it back to the entry hall. We got aggro from 2-3 other mobs, but it was not big deal. So, we went ahead and slowly pulled those 3 mobs outside the castle to kill with both groups. SOMEHOW, the ambassador room and gypsy room emptied and came pouring out of the castle about 5 seconds later.

I have no idea how that could've happened.

If anyone knows or has an idea on what happened, please take the time to respond here.

And, just so you know... I'll be taking the back door through the Graveyard from now own. It's just not worth it to try going in the front door.

Solo/Stealth approach much safer than a party, IMO.

I can solo with my 56 Shammy. Use invis always. There are lots of places that you can safely pull just one or three mobs. Even more places where you can't. Never had success going in the front door. Either come in the back way thru the graveyard or come in the top using levitate.

On the flip side, I was here with a SK level 52. We were torched, begging for rez, quite quickly (my gate spells were doubly interrupted, I never got the full story from him why he didn't make it out after FD). The trouble was we were Not Invis, a mistake, so we got aggro from one of the various DEs who got her friends involved.

Usual bad dungeon stuff applies here, getting attacked thru walls, pathing where the mob takes a tour to get to you... I can't imagine a frontal assault working unless you have a large party. And let's face it, the castle loot (apart from epics) just isn't worth a raid party.

Note--there is a way to get into the jail room without going thru the trapdoor that strips your invis. In the cliff behind the tomb next to Ssynthi there is a hidden door that takes you to a closet that leads to the jail. It will have a mob in it but no risk of adds unless you pull it way out into the graveyard. I found the hidden area by accident and haven't seen it on a map that I was able to decypher.

I have problems soloing in this zone... even hunting just in front of the castle I have problems.. why? trains/adds. I have saved several groups from disasters to find out that after battles seemed to have ended that these nukers keep nuking me for 300 and make me lose lots of experience cuz theres no high level clerics in zone. Is there a way to solo? yes, wait till full hp/mana before attacks (but there can still be pops). How can you get prepared for a 300hp nuke headed for you while yer sitting down (medding)... sure, they die rather easily... in seconds.. but still thats a lot of mana for a greater heal (160hp). And keeping Valor of Marr (self haste 300mana) and Instrument of Nife (self proc 243dd vs undead only 30mana) up dont help any in medding. Maybe it is soloable.. i just had bad experience where i took on 6+ gargoyles + a bunch more dark elfs

"Yard Trash" refers to the mobs you encounter in the first courtyard, without ever really going far in. Things like initiate familiars and the like.

Basically anything in that first courtyard is "Yard Trash." You will also be very close to zone, so it will be easy to get out in the case of an overpull.

This, of course, doesn't keep you safe from a train from *inside* the Castle, but you should be relatively safe as long as those inside the Castle announce that a choo-choo is fixing to rampage the courtyard.

General MM tips
# Oct 04 2001 at 6:58 AM Rating: Good
Here is some basic information that will save you a lot of time and save other people hunting there a lot of headaches.

1) Yes you can solo there if you are smart about it and know how to solo with your class. Not advisable for classes that can't crowd control in some way.

2) During the day, most everything is a monster, not undead. During the night, most everything is undead, not a monster. If its night, and you kill a DE, usually an undead will spawn. Visa versa applies to daytime. The familiars and gargoyles near the zone are an exception, the are always considered monsters, not undead.

3) Because of the odd undead/monster constant switching: do not be stupid and just throw on invis and run through the castle. I can not even count how many times my group has barely made it to the zone and had the trainer say 'Heh, they saw through my invis, oops =)'. Grrrr.

4) Pets are stupid here. This is one of those zones where they will run around the wall of the area you are in, aggroing everything on the way, instead of taking the logical line back to your location.

5) Sorry if this post sounds bitter, but it is. Hunting in MM for a while made me wish I was back on Rallos so I could kill people after I zoned in a train dodge. 80% of the trains in this place could be avoided if people thought about what they did before they did it:
a) Well that level 26 yard monkey conned indifferent to me with invis on, so I guess the entire castle will.
b) No I don't need to tell my pet to guard here.
c) Hmmm, I am in the middle of the zone, I think I will pull that mob I have never seen before, it will run right at me, not around in circles aggroing everything
d) etc...

6) Think before you do anything. This zone is highly aggressive.

Can you solo in Mistmoore? Yes.

Can you, generally, solo for Experience in Mistmoore? If your VERY good, yes.

Its possible to solo darn near anywhere, if your good enough. My ranger is level 42, and I solo things here, some of which give me experience. I generally only solo here if I'm bored, or scouting out the zone for a raid inside, however. The main difficulty of soloing in MM is the fact that everything is hostile. There's 2 mobs in the entire zone that haven't attacked me on sight (The Caitiff and the Advisor): The rest (green to me or not) ALWAYS agro, and the mix of Undead and live mobs makes it a pain to sneak too deep inside. If you bring your friends, at your level you should be able to get inside the castle, although you'd need to keep a sharp eye out for things deciding to eat your druid. At level 30 he won't last very long if something in the castle gets it into its head to use him for a toothpick.

Aye, there is a reason why Mistmoore hates Bards so much... we ravage all his little yard familiars and gargoyles. I play a bard on The Rathe and came to MM because I had never been... I had the same question in mind of whether I would be able to solo, and after working out a strategy I found I could easily solo the entrance yard mobs. I went from 26-30 doing this, and quickly too (two days, to some people thats quick, to others its not, to me it is.) This is what I do:
1) If you have ever been you know the spawns you pull from are always 2-3 mobs. Use lament to harmony all 2-3 mobs and then pull two of them.
2) Pull them to the zone, this is a safe area, and nothing usually wanders by. Once there unleash DDD, CoD, and BBB. Its slow work, but once you get charm:
3) Charm one of the mobs you are fighting, doesnt really matter which, I consantly switched in battle. Once one of the mob joins you and begins pounding on the other, swing around so you are facing the awake mob and your charmed mob is behind it.
4) The familiars backstab. I will be DD and DoTing the uncharmed mob, while the charmed one is hitting it for 40 and backtabbing it for 80+
The uncharmed mob drops fast, and then you deal with the leftover mob when charm wears off
5) If you get in trouble finishing off the last mob you have two options:
a) charm it, have it sit, regen, back away, when it stands recharm, face it again when you feel you have regenned enough
b) if you have Pixie strike, weave that and regen. The mob will be under permenent mezz (assuming few resists and no annoying people trying to 'help' you). Once again, when your health is back to a decent amount, just melee, DD, and DoT it to death.

Thats it folks.
Oh yeah... do NOT, I repeat NOT try to fear/snare kite... I made that mistake my first time there and had 3/4 of MM on my head before I knew what was going on...

If you have ever noticed, in just about every zone there is a hut with a fire out front (BB is a good example with the Goblins and Dwarven bandits). When standing away from them click on the fire, it gives the same statement. Rather odd and annoying, but typical for EQ.

Although, I am not being so presumptuous as to say that the gem does not have a use. I am just stating that many things that do not have a use give the same response when you "click" on them.

This is one of the best place for exp and for dying =P. The only problem w/ MM is finding a group. I zone in here and there are never more than 8 people in the zone. On certain days I will see alot of peeps in here but thats becuz they are having a guild raid. The best thing to do is bring your own group..recruit in Gfay or sit a zone and find someone in your range. Watch out though, trains are very nasty might be thinking ohhhh big deal a train of 3 DEs...hehe next thing you know you'll be dead when they start casting spells in the 200's area.

On Vallon Zek it is easy to find a full group (or at least partial group) of 20-27 or 28-35 in Mistmoore on a normal evening (Pacific Coast). Mistmoore is one of my favorite zones for 20-35; it is non stop action and I get very good xp here.

One thing I don't see people mentioning is the huge amount of cash you can make here... I walked out of MM at lvl 22 after 4 hours with 30 plat in cash and stuff that sells for another 30. For this reason, beware PKers when you leave MM and head to town to sell.

There are 3 decent camp spots for groups lvl 20-28 right when you enter the zone. (Yard Area)

First is pulling to the zone itself, but you will find lots of "helpful" people will attack your pulls. Be sure NOT to sit right next to the wall by the zone, you will aggro high lvl mobs from the castle through the wall.

Next is "the hill", which is straight in and to the left next to the pond. You want to sit near the highest part of the hill. A variety of spawns (some still blue to 30) pop near you.

The best spot for a good group in the yard area is
"the corner". It is opposite from "the hill" and a bit further back to the right. It is the best spot to pull the lower lvl gargoyles (they drop eyes that sell well to merchants), and a lot of mobs blue to 30 pop in the corner itself.

After the yard stuff gets too easy you can move into the "GY" (graveyard), "jail", and "CY" (Courtyard); I'd recommend you be at least 30 before going to the CY. Best way is to group with someone who knows the area and stick with them closely. It is a good idea to have crowd control (enchanter or bard) and someone that can invis for corpse retrievals.

My only additional advice is unless you are 35+ or in a fantastic group with crowd control, ZONE as soon as you see a dark elder, anicille, gypsy, thought spoiler, etc. trained on you (they cast for 250 pts and you better believe they brought friends), and wherever you camp a spot, don't sit too close to the walls because REALLY high lvl mobs will aggro through walls from other areas deep in the zone.

I hope this is helpful...

are the darkelves that lie all over here classified as undead for the purposes of using liquid silver (rogue undead only poison)? yes or no, anyone have any ideas what else in the zone is undead? (not a whole list, but a few ideas would be nice)

The easy way to tell the undead from normal mobs is the undead are of a pale complexion, crouch over, hiss at you, and, my favorite, come decked out in that evil **** wear...

The DEs are not, but the vampires are undead. I have heard that the DEs and vampires are on the same spawn table, only one is at night (vamps) and the other is during the day. So if you see a DE at night and kill it, a vamp will spawn in its place. Vice versa during the daytime, killing a vamp will spawn a DE. This is what I have heard, no personal verification.

No. Most are not considered undead. I went in with my paladin and could not cast expulse undead on MOST of the creatures. Some may be however, but not too many.
#Anonymous, Posted: Aug 16 2001 at 5:54 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Essence of Moonlight is for Coloring FS Plate armor. It is mixed with the brewing skill. Not sure what all you need for it. But the end result is a yellow color shade depending on the # of resins you use.

no essence of moonlight is for moonlight tempers for high elf cultural smithing.. very very very valuable for those brave souls that have decided to become grandmaster high elf smiths.. you do need brewing for making it though.. if on nameless please save for Petey he'll get cash sooner or later and will pay well for them.

No, you cannot solo here. If you look at EQAtlas's guide for Mistmoore it clearly says that soloing is completely impossible here.

Bards are another class that can solo extremely well in the yard near the entrance from about 26-30. Read my above post (assuming its still there) on how to do it

Soloing here is very possible, but are limited to certain classes. Rangers w/ the harmony spell can solo the lake area easily in low-mid 20's. Just cast harmony on a group of DE, then pull one to the ramp near zone. If done correctly, you should have no adds. But never pull a caster, they will wipe the floor w/ you. But a warrior at lvl 20 cannot solo here. They have no crowd control spells...hehe no spells actually, and will get an add/s each time. MM is a great place for exp, just watch out for train. This place is soooo deadly w/ trains.

I actually soloed here as a level 30 paladin... only died twice, both due to other people's trains. Of course I got murdered by brownie scouts about 10 times getting there and back.
# Oct 12 2001 at 6:59 PM Rating: Default
Brownie scouts are a true danger!!

The best way to get from GFay to Mistmoore without encountering them is to stick to the zone on your left hand. You'll head east, then south past the zone to Steamfont, then west past the shadowed men tower, then start to be careful because there is a camp full of lvl 30+ Tier Dal along the zone wall, hiding just over a hill. once you see them, circle around the camp giving it a wide berth, but being careful not to run into the orc camp (or the elf ranger camp if you're KOS), then go past the sister bandit camp and you're there.

I have NEVER met a brownie scout going this way, while I have met 2 going around the zone wall to the right past the brownie outpost (huh, go figure).

NEVER NEVER NEVER go on the path, the brownie scouts walk up and down on it. You will usually see a couple of corpses lying on the path, get a feeling of misgiving, then BLAMMO! 350 pts of damage and a snare spell! And thats at lvl 30. I don't think I've ever NOT been attacked by a scout going on the path.

But then again I am sort of lucky/unlucky (depends on whether you appreciate being attacked by rare spawns like "Corrupted Equestrielle" or not).

Thick Caustic fluid drops off Dark Offerers only, and is part of the Warden Symbol of Tunare quest. (no drop neck item for druids and Clerics +3 WIS, 7AC unlimited effect of Grasping Root.)

Essence of Moonlight is needed for brewing the Moonlight Temper needed for the High Elf racial armor. My question is: which mobs drop it?

I am a mage coming up on lv 20 polly not gonna take on this place for several more lvls but a few questions for you experienced folk.

1. Is it a bad idea to take a pet anyplace in MM castle and surrounding area, I read in some posts that pets cause too much trouble in some places here or is it every place?
2. No one has mentioned the Nobles Robe which is a big reason I am interested in MM. Where in MM is the mob that drops it and any other details on this are appreciated.
3. When I go I will go with my necro friend bout same level as me, what classes would be best for two of us to group with.

Thanks in advance

Noble's robe does drop in MM off a Fallen Noble which spawns in garden near fountain where Cloaked Damphyre spawns.
RE: nobles robe

1. MM is one of those 'stupid pathing' zones, so its unadvisable to bring a pet unless you can control it well.
2. Are you sure the Nobles Robe drops in MM? I know Advisors does, but never heard of nobles dropping there.
3. A necro and a mage together should be enough to stomp out the yard trash at 20+

I am a 46th shaman, and recently started my epic. i am up to killing this mob, but i have been told this is no easy task. can anyone help me out with strategies and what kind of group i will need to take this thing down? any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

RE: Black Dire
# Oct 12 2001 at 7:13 PM Rating: Default
A good lvl 28-33 group can with patience work its way into the area where the Black Dire spawns.

You fight to past the Graveyard, continuing down the tunnel. When you get to the next courtyard, instead of going up the steep ramp to the castle, hang a right and fight your way to the end. There are a variety of mobs that con even to red to a lvl 30.

Once you are in, you'll see a group of 6 or so dire wolves standing in the corner, and sometimes the middle one is the Black Dire. I don't know what makes him spawn but the center wolf is likely his place holder. He is lvl 40-47, but if I remember correctly the other wolves conned blue or even at 29 (?). The wolves and the black dire did not attack me (hafling warrior) or anyone else in any party I've been in there. I have not grouped with a shaman there though. I don't know if they will all attack if you attack the Black Dire.
