Greater Faydark

Quick Facts

Type: Outdoor
Continent: Faydwer
Instanced: No
Keyed: No
Level Range: 1 - 10

This forest serves as the gateway into Norrath for the wood elves of Kelethin and high elves of Felwithe. And with Ak'Anon and Kaladim so close by, it is not uncommon to see gnomes and dwarves throughout the area as well.

Don't let the safety of Kelethin's well-fortified boundaries fool you. While the area has numerous guard posts and patrols, the further you travel away from the city the higher level of danger and risk you will encounter.

The orc stronghold of Crushbone can be found along the northern boundaries of the forest while the darker, more dangerous Lesser Faydark lies to the south. Only those more experienced should consider travelling to the two areas.

There's a new NPC in GFay, Kalanpor Selldru, standing in the tunnel to Crushbone behind the orc guards. He conned Red to a Lvl 75 Ranger. All he said to a hail was "Kalanpor Selldru says 'I'm afraid I can't speak right now, <name>. I'm waiting for someone very important to arrive.'". There's a screenshot of him in the Screenshots tab...

Unfortunately, we don't track which direction the zone connections flow, only that there's a connection between the two. I agree, it'd be better if we tracked them directionally.

You can pretty much hunt here until around 6-7, than hit crushbone which is right off this zone until about 15 or so. Than head to Paladual Caverns and kill there until 25. You can do quests at any point in the game, but they do not give much exp. They are more for items and money and faction and what not.

I am returning to the game after a long long long interruption (1 year) and my mago low lvl has reappeared in the middle of a war !!!!!!! And moreover no more bats wolfs drakeling wasps or arborean. So as long as i can understand it is no more possible to do baby armour quest

That s really a pity that was tough in this area to obtain all elements but nevermind it was fun I hope the war will not last forever and htat newbies of nowadays can have the fun i had in the past

Additionally, a very decent bow (Orcslayer, Bow of the Faydark Defenders? forget actual name)was also linked in zone many times, which supposedly dropped from one of the other named in zone, but never once dropped from the Captains.

The other event-related named from the zone that I saw were General Aauiden, Colonel Iluwenae, and Tactician Inuverae (all conned yellow at 69-same as captains).

I got the book with my 66 enchanter but I cannot begin to tell you how stupid this event is. Did SoE learn NOTHING from the last couple of large scale events? Here are some dumbass highlights:

The Elf Enchanters (about 20% of the army) run around casting Winds of Tashania (AoE tash) stripping off people's invise.

Only the Elf leader drops the nice items so you have players of good races ROOTING FOR THE ORCS.

The whole thing only reinforces the worst sort of behavior people have bemoaned in EQ for years...ninja looting, selling loot rights, griefing.

As of today, I noticed some new mobs by Felwithe, where the trail forks to go towards Kelethin. One was "an enchanter," one was "a paladin" and one was "a Faydark captain." All were red to my level 46. They scowled at my DE NEC who has good faction with Emerald Warriors and dubious faction with the HIE PALs. The captain could see invis.

1. Can a druid raise hide skills?
I am a level 20 Druid and have all my other skills to the max, but for some reason I cannot raise my hide skills. It is still at the same level that I started with.

2. Does anyone know how the tributes that you purchase from the Tribute Master work? I am totally baffled????? Smiley: confused

1) no, its a racial skill, starts at 50, capped at 50.

2) you give items to the tribute master, for points. You can use these points to buy effects, like extra mana regen, or improved damage for casters, or hp regen, extra attack or hp for melee. These effects use points up every 10 minutes.

For example, when I am grouping with my cleric, I like to nuke when full mana, so I turn on Improved Damage IV at a cost of 29 tribute points every 10 minutes. With it turned on, its EXACTLY the same as if I had an item with that effect.

#Nexuskiller, Posted: Feb 25 2003 at 1:38 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Let me tell you about an idea i had one day. I was running through Grater faydark and i had accedently attacked a nexus at the wizzy spires. Needless to say that i was killed Instantly. I was extreamly mad because i lost my exp. Through my hatered i studied the creature and i devised the most extravagant scheme ever. I was wondering if my fellow Citizens of norrath would aid me. Darkies and Lighties come together in a mass horde to take one down. "What's in it for me" a person might ask. Well i think that not only the feeling you get from uniting with all of the inhabitants of norrath to squash a common evil but a great possibilty of an uber pay off and Extream exp or maybe nothing just a cold hard defeat.I am not really sure if they drop anything or if they even give exp. They are most likely the least killed Npc in the game. I have heard of one or two being killed but to my knowlage no loot has ever been identified. There are only a couple of reasons why i have not been able to find the loot items either 1. The uber guild who took one down came up with an awsome item that they dont want to get nerfed because of 1000000 crying lowbies saying its too powerfull so they did not add it to new item lists 2. None of them have ever been killed 3. Normal Loot for lvl of mob 4. No loot :( Now i am not really sure yet of the master plan but i am thinking along the lines of a massive head on attack group attack at random with no aperant stratagey.A person could even make a mule char and lvl to 5 or 6 toe just for this battle.Toe to Toe with the Unchecked Evil of the world. Or i have got a more methodical aproach. Either way i could be just stupid or really tired but that is my idea and i am willing to set up shop on any server. e-mail me at massive_nexus_strike@YHAOO.COM if you have any ideas, you want to join (( lvl is of no importance 1-65 doesnt matter Class either warriors clerics shaman monks i am in need of warm bodies :) )) or you just want to flame about how stupid i am either way i will welcome your emails and i will try my very best to email you back .No matter what it says. More information on nexus is always welcome. E-mail me and give it a chance.

You will have to clear out Crushbone probably 30 times over. The higher the level of the mobs, the better the faction it gives you with the elven warriors/guards. It'll take effort, but if you really need the faction it can happen. The guards are amiable to my Innoruk worshipping DE after enough work.

Do the CB belt quest when you can (an illusion potion will help with faction, use Dwarf or Halfling) in Kaladim, that seemed to help my Emerald Warrior faction, even though that wasn't listed on the changed ones when I handed in the belts, from what I remember.

I have not tested this but found it on allakhazam for you

Talk to Regren inside the Emerald Warriors Guild.

He will ask you to bring him 4 items to prove your worth:

spiderling eye

ruined wolf pelt

bone chips

and bat fur.

He will reward you with xp, faction, money, and an item (often tattered armor).

Your faction improves with the Merchants of Kelethin, Emerald Warriors and Merchants of Felwithe and goes down with Indigo Brotherhood.

After this latest patch, (24th July) this zone is now completely different:) For those used to running around in a circle killing wasps and bats with the occaisional pawn or wolf, be prepared for a shock. Theres now a whole new rash of monsters all over the area to help with the new quests.

Large widow spiders, orc cents right next to the guards, new baby treant type monsters, and varieties of wasps and bats that are still red to a baby druid of 5 seasons.

The guards seem more responsive as well.

(I decided to start another druid to do the baby armour quests and was very very surprised. First time I have ever died in a newbie zone like this, and not just once, but many many times.)

I would say that GF has gone from being a safe easy start point to probably one of the hardest and probably needs a serious revision of levels, loot and monsters here on alks:).

Moria

Even after the recent patch in which characters below level 11 do not lose experience (and those below level 10 re-animate with all of there belongings, hence no need for a corpse run), I still see newbies running toward the guards with a pack of orcs following behind. Perhaps they have some nice buffs they do not want to lose when they die, or maybe it's just a general fear of dying -- the reflex to survive -- but it makes more sense to stand your ground and fight the blue hordes.

If you stay and fight, you actually may kill something, thus gaining experience -- remmber you don't lose any at low levels. Also, in many cases, it is preferable to die rather than hanging out at the orc lift waiting to heal (or pitifully asking someone for a heal). As an SK, I also like the fact that my Harm Touch comes back upon re-animation, so in some cases, dying is a desired outcome. I also manage to kill most of the orcs that I would have led to the guards in earlier times.

So, you elven peasants, don't run -- stand and fight!

I have a high level bard who I love dearly, but I wanted to understand the casters perspective, so I started a druid. Little Nakele is now level 6 and trying to solo. I do a fair job of the root, move back, cast damage spells sequence, but I have died more times than I care to count trying to med. Where is a safe spot to med after you've killed an orc near the orc camp in GFay?

It has proven to be a much harder transition than I anticipated from bard to druid, so if anyone has made the same transition and can offer insight, I'd love it.

Either run back to near the Orc Lift, so you're under the protection of the guards, or use that much-underrated Druid spell: Camouflage.

Cast this on yourself then sit at the top of the hill to recover the rest of your mana. This spell has allowed me to avoid mobs all over Norrath, and is useful when running through zones you don't know too well.

Anyone even thinking about starting a new Ranger or Wood Elf character should think no more. GFay is an EXCELLENT place to start and grow, clear through low twenties. This is the only place i have ever started, but it seems like i would be hard pressed to find a better place. Not only is the town of Kelethin a very beautiful place to stay, but the zone is great for hunting also. Pickings are great for brand newbies, who can pick on wasp drones, bats, wolves, decaying skeles, and higher newbies can gain xp from all kinds of faeries, widow hatchlings, and if you're feeling particularly spunky, willowisps (low teens). I even killed a brownie scout once (the weak lvl 3 or 4 kind, not the Lesser Faydark kind who whomp until high lvls). There's also a small Wood-elf bandit camp just south of Kelethin.

My fav tho are the orcs. When u turn level 4 or 5 or so you can group (or solo if you want, just a little slower) and pick off the orc paws. In 1 or 2 levels you can start killing the centurions, then eventually the oracles. Also from the centurions and oracles, you can pick up a pretty common drop of Crushbone Belts that can be exchanged in Kaladim, the Dwarven city in the bordering zone of Butcherblock Mountains. You can exchange them for a few coin, some xp, and a piece of patchwork armor for each belt. I was a brand new lvl 5 and turned in 16 belts. Immediately, i became lvl 6! But if u would rather build your character the longer, but more rewarding way, you can usually find a market for the belts in Kelethin. 1pp each.

After Gfay is no longer challenging enough, usually around lvl 8 or 9, enter Crushbone, the zone to the north of Gfay and home to the Crushbone Orcs. Great hunting until higher lvls. Not really sure how high, as i'm only lvl 12, but most of the orcs in the castle con red to me. Until the castle is your lvl, you can hunt around it, hunting the harder centurions, slavers, legionnaires, oracles, and eventually royal guards, then Emperor Crush himself. Once you start killing the orc legionnaires, you start getting their drop of shoulder pads which are worth 3 of the belts. I'll be here much longer.

One other awsome part about Gfay is that u don't have to zone to get to the city. Just ride a lift to the platforms in the trees and sell or buy or bank or whatever. Quick easy fun. You can also forage cinnamon sticks if you have the forage ability. I've heard of cinnamon sticks going for as much as 50pp per stack to desperate bakers!

I occasionally get lost in the city, tho. can be confusing for newbies and even till my lvl.

I am a level 6 wizard, high elf and make my living trying to get exp as soon as possible. I hunt in faydark, killing pkers and usually hunt in BB, its a pain in the but since i reached level 6. Whites if I kill them (which is hard) only gives a full bubble of blue. ThaT STINKS. I recently found an ulthork hide tunic and sold it for 105 pp. I bought a flowing black robe, some jewelry and saved the rest for my level 8 spels. My only good spells are these...

1.) root
2.) Shock of flame
3.) gate
4.) Icestrike

I cant really get anywhere with these. I am 2 levels till next spells but wanna level really fast. CB rocks but theres one problem... Will my spells ( most dfamage one is 14 dam) actually kill these orcs, or will they Aggro on me Send me - email or reply

I would tend to disagree. Your tone throughout your post is indicative of the real problem: lack of patience.

Take a step back and grab some perspective. First of all, for a non-twinked character you possess a FBR [Flowing Black Robe] and some pieces of what I presume are +INT jewelry at level 6. That is good equipment for your level range - remember: non-twinked.

Second, you cannot compare the exp per kill through the newbie levels to the exp per kill after these levels. In the simplest terms, the majority of characters play in a near identical way through the newbie years. At a certain level, you will reach a plateau where the differences between the various classes become more explicit.
From a personal perspective, I started to notice the difficulty in exp grinding from around 6th-7th level (just below the next spell rank at 8th).

Finally, you simply must factor in your class limitations (class strengths are not so obvious at these levels - unless you're a Druid :P). I have very limited knowledge of the Wizard class so I would advise you to bone up in the Character forum. The little that I do know is that Wizards are extremely hard to solo and generally mature into their role at around 30th level. Take with a pinch of salt.

Take a look at eq.castersrealm.com for spell lists and general advice for each spell. Your fundamental problem is that although 'Root' is a good spell (if it sticks .. fizzle .. fizzle .. LOADING. PLEASE WAIT ..) all your offensive spells are DD [Direct Damage]. I believe there is a % chance for 'Root' to break on a mob each time it takes damage from an attack i.e. either through melee or through a DD. Hence, you cannot simply Root park, DoT, med, re-apply the 'Root' then rinse and repeat.

Basically Fardarks, you are not going to rake in mad exp nor phat lewt at your level. Accept this and you'll come to realise that for a non-twinked character in a twinked world - particularly on my server - you are doing fine.

Oh. You're on a PVP server. Wizard? No stuns at your level, no MR debuff, fizzle .. fizzle .. interrupts .. 'LOADING. PLEASE WAIT'. :P

If it is your desire to level as QUICKLY as possible then you need to Powerlevel [Pl]. However, please note the fundamental pitfall with power-levelling: your spell classes i.e. evocation, abjuration yada yada yada, will be abysmal. Prepare to spend hours - and I mean, hours - on green/blue con mobs raising those skills. Or more commonly, standing in a SAFE location and casting upon yourself. Med. Rinse and repeat. Dull, long and laborious.

Your choice. Be safe now, whatever decision you decide to make.

Hey thanks, that info did help me alot considering i have a level 15 warrior iksar. But ive got one more question,After i went to cb and got some good exp for a while, i noticed that there is a spell combination for a wiz (ie. rot, shock o fire, ice strike root, stun repeat) I have all level 1 and 4 spells and want to make the most of it. below is the list I have of a basic fight, and advanced one...

Basic fight

Shock of fire first, back up in time and cast root if works. Icestrike ( aoe) which deals 10 damage twice and 8 to me. recast root, shock of fire till 1/4th hp left then shock of ice to save mana but hit 8 damage.

Advanced fight

Root until works, shock of fire until its at 2/4 hp. Recast root, med up... ice strike until 1/4th hp. shock of fire until dead.

I think theres a better combination than of this. some cases are root and retreat while others are full nuke of only one spell. below is a list of spels and their mana cost for my level range...

1.) Frost bolt,1-10 dam, 10 mana
2.) Minor shielding, 10 mana
3.) shock of frost, 1-8 dam, 13 mana
4.) Fade, mana 10 mana
5.) Gate, 70 mana
6.) icestrike, 2-3 rounds, 8-10 dam, 30 mana
7.) O'kiels radiation, 15 mana
8.) Shock of fire, 13-14 dam, 15 mana

Rule = for my mana bar, 15 mana equals half a bubble of mana for my level.

I put in my most used spells for damage and clearing (help , defense)

Is there any way to improve this tactic? I am not fusrated but a wizard should have some kind of good battle tactics dont ya think? U may have the swords, the armor, the spells.. but do you know how to use them the RIGHT way? my point exactly

<nods vigorously> It is not just about having a correct set-up because x player told you that THIS is the WAY you SHOULD set-up your spells. It is far more important to understand why i.e. the rationale behind any spell selection set-up.

Your latest post indicates that you have understood this point and are refining your tactics through experiment and experience. Also, personal preference plays a large part in one's spell set-up - what works for one player may not work for you. Like I said previously, check out the Wizards spell list on Eq.castersrealm.com as well as thumbing through the Wizard class forum on Allakhazam. There is a wealth of good advice contained within these pages.

Sorry that I cannot help you refine your tactics. As previously stated, my class knowledge is quite poor outside Chanter.

Do you know what? It is my sincere belief that you will excel in your chosen class because you have clearly displayed not only the ability, but also the mental faculty to investigate and explore your class; to think about your tactics and refine them, as well as situational use for spells.

** Just read some tips provided by other fellow Wizards on Eq.Castersrealm.com - seems as though your tactics are well on par :)
You're just at the mercy of 'Root' sticking and holding.

Do let us [the forum] know how you progress.

Be safe now.

wow for someone who's character depends on intelligence, he sure doesn't have any... LMAO kidding... dude, you could of course use GFay to... oh i dunno... get you to better zones <Faydwer, the continent that houses GFay, also houses Unrest, Crushbone, Ak'Anon, Steamfont, LesserFay...>

GFay is a newbie zone, so of course the mobs there will only peak at lvl 6 if you're lucky... also, if you want bat wings you could go there... if you need to refine your spell groups <evocation and the like> then you do it here...

For money?!?! i dunno what level you are but if you need money, go somewhere that's a higher level place... CB is okay at early teens, paludal caverns for late teens to early 20's... but y'know... Lego Bracers, for me, sold for about 3gp... now combine that with 4 backpacks filled up <8 times 4 equals 32> and i was making some decent money...

anyways my point, NO NEWBIE ZONE IS A GOOD ZONE AT LVL 8... well, GFay at least... don't know all that much about the others... <voice lowers> should do that then... become more informed... not so... narrow-minded <voice gets lower some more>... druids ain't only thing that roams Norrath... <whisper now> other people walking around... that are great

Someone who has owned this game for a long time says that their friend plays on a pvp server and that recently they created a patch that allows you to kill yourself and spawn as a npc monster and control it till you die. They even said it is possible, though difficult, to level with these monsters. Is this true? I dont like being suckered into things so please answer.

There was a point when they did this although brief. You were in player selection screen and and extra button was there. You clicked on it and it sent you too a random zone as a mob for that zone. There were a lot of restrictions on it and yes you could level. I did it twice and became an Aviak once a a giant rat another time. Died both times before leveling though. It did not last very long though. I thought it had been placed on all servers not just pvp.

oh my, now dont we have a little problem here, well, ask for buffs, sow's to get away from bad situations, and if you get good health buffs, it'd be a great thing to get at that level, and with the problems you have...i got to 3 with my druid, by just killing wasps, bats, decaying skeletons, pixies and orc pawns in about 30-40 minutes, and with my warrior, i got to 6-15 in three days, killing deathfist orcs, if you just put forth the effort and patience, you should be able to do it in no time, good luck friend!

Anyone know how to raise faction with the merchants in Kelethin? I've gone from "apprehensively" to "amiably" with the guards and some of the quest NPCs by killing orcs, but the merchants and other NPCs (eg Heartwood Master) remain steadfastly "apprehensively". Puzzling.

It's really not that hard to get good faction. Go to some of the guilds, or look on Allakhazam.com for quests to raise your faction! the quests would give lots of faction quickly!

You've [almost] answered your own question: "The warrior is level 5 and the cleric is level 6 [SNIP}".

General consensus would suggest that you generally do not find "good loot" dropping from low level mobs. Of course, "good loot" is a perjorative term. No, you will not get 'uber' loot from mobs in Greater Faydark. However, there are a number of ways to generate platinum which should see you through your newbie levels and beyond.

The Money Generator:

There are a number of items which drop from mobs which can be used/sold to generate platinum at a decent rate for newbie levels:

* Bat wings -- A stack of batwings usually sells between 2pp - 3pp. High levellers in a hurry -may-offer anywhere from 5pp - 10pp a stack. I was incredibly fortunate to sell 11 stacks for 100pp to a high leveller in a hurry (I threw in the 11th stack *free*. Bravo philanthropist!), but this is the exception rather than the rule.

* Bone chips -- the dollar is the international currency accepted everywhere, so bone chips are the equivalent 'curreny' within EQ. On Antonica and Faydwer (not so certain in Kunark), a stack will sell for 5pp. Do NOT sell below 4pp.

I try to keep a spare stack of batwings either with me or at least, in the bank, but I -always- have a stack of bone chips. Either for selling, and/or for the various faction raising bone chip quests to be found in many cities.

It is not uncommon for players to offer 10pp a stack for bone chips.

Why do players offer so much platinum for easily obtained items? After all, bat wings and bone chips can be -easily- obtained in certain zones (On Faydwer: Gfay and BB, whilst on Antonica: Northern Ro and Qeynos Hills), and usually from vendors. Note: bat wings can be bought in unlimited amounts from a vendor in the Arcane Science building in Freeport.

Convenience. As in real life, people will pay a premium on goods/services for the sake of convenience. This is especially true of ..

* Silk Swatches -- Silk swatches components used in the tailoring trade skill. 2 spider silks = 1 silk swatch. Combine 2 *unstacked* spider silks in -any- small, medium or large tailoring kit to produce 1 silk swatch. This skill -never fails which is a blessing because it is a tremendous amount of work to obtain the 40 spider silks needed to create a stack of silk swatches.

Note: spider silks do NOT drop from Widow hatchlings. These [hatchlings] drop spiderling silk which is used in tailoring to make silk thread - combine 2 spiderling silks in any tailoring kit. You must travel to Butcher Block to hunt Giant spiders to obtain spider silks.

A stack of silk swatches regularly sells for up to 100pp. The high price reflects (1) the low frequency of spiders, with the (2) low-ish drop rate of spider silks, with the (3) large number of spider silks (40) needed to create a stack of silk swatches. The byword is 'convenience'.

Other items:

*CB Belts and Pads - Either sell to other players for 1pp/2pp (belts and pads respectively), or turn in to Canloe Nusback in the Warriors guild in Kaladim for exp, faction, patchwork armour and minor coinage.

*Backpacks - These infrequently drop from the bandits at loc: neg 1250, neg 700. Also can drop from Kobolds in Steamfront, as well as goblin whelps in Butcher Block. Note: at level 5, Druids obtain 'Harmony' which will allow Druids to almost exclusively solo this camp right up to level 8 (or until you get bored). The exp is excellent and the faction hit is 'Fizzlethorp', hence, kill with impunity.

If you lower your expectations and accept that at the lower levels, you will not rake in the platinum, you can -make- enough money at the lower levels through killing and looting mobs, and selling all of the items. Finding a cracked staff is always nice as these are not only excellent weapons for the level (5/32 1HB) but also sell for just over a plat to vendors.

Once you reach the giddy heights of 9-10th level, you have a number of choices depending on class: either hunt in CB for exp but not much loot, or travel to Antonica and snag yourself a bandit group. Nice loot includes the cutthroat insignia rings (+ac and dex), and the various bronze weapons which can be sold for between 1pp - 3pp. Or snag yourself a bandit group in the Karanas - bronze weapons AND sashes! Turn those sashes in to Chesgard in the Paladin guild in Qeynos South for just over 1pp, and you can sell the bronze weapon you receive from Chesgard for around 1pp - 3pp.

Oh. If you do decide to visit Qeynos (a MUST for all pure casters), be sure to pay a visit to the aqueducts and hunt Cuburt (named gelationous cube) for the 'tattered dress' quest. This is how you obtain +3 INT earrings which can be sold for a pretty penny in East Commonlands for a ridiculously inflated price re: convenience. Hey!? You've hauled *** from Gfay to Qeynos, risking several severe maulings from various big cats with even bigger attitudes, Kodiaks, Orcs, various undead, Gnolls, Griffins, Hill Giants, and not to mention those loveable inkies Kizdean Gix and Dragoon Ztyl. The price -reflects- the (in)convenience factor.

Remember: don't hold out for top $$$ all of the time. The key to EQ is to make friends. I've lost count of the number of friends lists I've been added to, of players who have generously given FREE equipment (cast-offs), offers of FREE ports, and all because I've decided to sell my various chattle at a lower price or given away FREE to players from time to time.

Addendum: in the above post, find & replace the -first- occurence of 'bandit' with 'dervish'. Also, add a liberal sprinkling of Northern Ro. Serve to finish with a minor altercation with Dorn B'Dynn and a corpse recovery. Also, apologise profusely to Dorn for whatever unfortunate occurrence, some minor setback that he suffered, which produced the odd latent psychopathic episode. This will serve a dual purpose: not only will copying previous posts succintly answer any questions, but will also illuminate an 'old' post to a new, wider auidence. Quick note that can score you 10-20pp in short order. This is best done in Felwithe/Steamfont/ Nek Forest areas where all the requisite components are in abundance.
First: Get a Large sewing kit, or locate a Loom (Stationary container)

Second: Combine spiderling silks 2 at a time to get silk threads. Combine 3 silk threads to get a silk cord. NOTE: Combining 2 threads gets you silk bandages, ALSO handy.

Third: Kill wolves and, if possible Pumas to get a low quality Cat or Wolf pelt. Combine this pelt with the silk cord and on a suucess you get a 10% Weght reducing bag.

Fourth: Auction till sold, Repeat...

This is really a really intelligent and informative post :) I -almost- feel ashamed that I didn't think of this. Why?

There are 2 components needed to make a tailored small bag (10% weight reduction):

(1) Silk cord
(2) LQ (low quality) wolf pelt.

As stated in the above post, both components are easily found in Greater Faydark: spiderling silk from Widow Hatchlings, and LQ wolf pelts from wolves. Note: as a RP (role-playing) Druid, I take a -dim- view of poachers. Although, wolves are aggressive to non-Druids, hence players could quite legitimately claim 'self-defence'.

**Tailored Small Bag:

One silk cord, and one low quality wolf pelt.

Weight - 0.4, Slots - 4, Holds - Medium, Weight Reduction - 10%, Trivial - 31.

Just one pipsqueak of concern. Is there actual -demand- for tailored small bags? Or o players just use 8 slot backpacks from vendors (or certain mobs -- the bandits at loc: neg 1250, neg 700 occasionally drop backpacks. On 'Fizzlethorp' faction so kill with impunity :P) until they can get their grubby mits on the handmake backpacks?

** Handmade Backpack

One high quality bear skin and one backpack pattern. These are the first Holy Grail of tailoring, and are consistent money makers.

Weight - 3.0, Slots - 10, Holds - Large, Weight Reduction - 10%, Trivial - 88.

Whilst a low tailoring skill may not ensure great success in making the item, the low cost and ease at which the components (unlike jewelcraft, say) can be obtained, should enable players to practice their tailoring and -maybe- make some plat out of their trade skill.

A truly excellent post, Thayn :)

At least on Rodcet Nife server, there is NO demand for these bags, especially the small ones. Won't hold larger items (most of the heavy stuff, unless you're smithing), so good for carrying food, spell components, but they don't weigh much, and you can get get a non-weight reducing bag free for agreeing to the quest in the druid hall, also 4 slot. I have tried for days to auction the large bags for as low as 5pp, with no takers. A better option is to make the threads as described above, and combine one thread with a low quality (wolf, cat, bear) pelt to make leather padding. I have sold stacks of leather padding for as much as 100pp. Also, medium and high quality pelts can be lowered in quality using a skinning knife, although you clearly don't want to do that with the bear, as they are worth 40pp per HQ bear. This is one reason I like the EC zone for newbies better than GFay.

What are you crazy!! I have a lv5 half elf ranger and I solo butcherblock all the time!! Dosen't everthing con green or early blue to you at lv11? And if you wait that late where are you gonna go the rest of the time? And as for waiting for 18 to goto Crushbone!? I got another character (a lv8 wiz) who got in a group of a lv7 warr a lv9 cleric and(part of the time) a lv8 ranger, we could kill Legionaires or groups of cents that we could pull! We stayed near the cabin the whole time and pulled things, we got awesome exp. If you wait till 18 to goin there you might get some exp for legos and pretty much you can only fight the royalty. The only thing you have to worry about is if some idoit trains a big group into(specilly when its emperor crush at the zone ent(i hate whoever did that)). Groups are the key to Everquest, get in a good group and yo can go anywhere!
