Jewel of Atiiki is the habitat of the Sphinx: A place created by the Combine Empire and including a desert, pyramids, and a small oasis; all of which were made to appeal to the Sphinx. For the most part, the Sphinx are a friendly race and offer numerous quests and missions. Don't be fooled by this apparent complacency though, as the Sphinx are not alone. There are also many aggressive efreetis and insects found here.

Jewel of Atiiki is reached through one of the portals in Katta Castrum (south side of the zone).

I cannot find any such thing in this zone to complete Franklin Teek quest. I think they got the wrong mob for quest in this zone.

So I was doing the hotzone task which required killing 5 sentinels or pristine crabs. It meant pristine scarabs. Killing those worked.

Katta Castrum. Exit the 2nd south gate. Go to the portal area and then left to 3rd portal.

Sorry. I was wrong. You don't need to do quest to access this one.

when he said 3rd portal. He should have said. Go West way past the first 2. Head towards a large wall. And there should be a door way you have to click to open. Just a little past that is the 3rd portal he was talking about.

trash beeltles and scorpions and druids
# Apr 29 2009 at 1:09 PM Rating: Decent
Now with a mercenary I took my 72 druid Morromid over to kill the trash (not the efreeti)

the whirlwind guys hit pretty hard for my healer merc but the beetles and scorpions are a snap.

Buf with both set of thorns and use your cloudburst hail for 3 waves of damage (nerc will heal your own damage) and your flame nuke. Just keep nuking, it works great.

edit:
Necro just made level 84. Efreeti give 7 percen AAxp now.

Entrance to Jewel of Attiki

I am confused as to how you enter this zone. Do you have to do the quest to unlock teleport pads in Katta? Or is there a port straight to this zone without doing the quest?

Thank you

Hopefully you figured this out.

Just get on the pad, it will port you there.
The portal quests have nothing to do with this. The zone is so big they made portals to get around easier and quests to make it fun and give you xp for doing it. Just run to the Atiiki portal and hop on.

I'm just starting to explore this zone and do the Efreeti Death Visage quests.

The first quest by the way, Sivrn #1: Names of the Sphinx nets you two AAs with no killing, so long as you have a pet you can command or you assist someone else with a pet.

The zone in is safe. You arrive at the end of a long tunnel.
Lev works and I visited each pyramid with invis. No see-invis mobs that I could tell.

You arrive in the SE corner of the zone.
There are 3 pyramids across the the top end of the zone, east, center and west.
One pyramid is to the sw as you run out the western tunnel from the zone-in.
There is a sunken lake in the center of the zone.

Close to the zone-in is another pyramid that you enter from the tunnels.

From the zone-in if you head east thru the tunnels you end up in a big sand pit with a named mob crawling in and out of the pit. He might be a little hard to see so be a little careful.

The many rhinoback bettles apparently do not agro, but will assist each other if you decide you don't like them.

The inside of the pyramids is usually accessed thru a portal at the top of the pyramid. Portaling out I'm told does not clear agro, so don't stop running on your way out. The inside of the pyramids have many bug traps that will spawn mean assed little bugs when you walk over them. The traps are randomly placed and if you can avoid agro they despawn quickly. There are many posts about the traps and the bugs. The first pryamid I was in spawned bugs as soon as I walked out the little ante-room you end up in. I fled. I have not explored the pyramids so far, the first Sphinx quest does not require it beyond zoning into the ante-room

edit:
I'm now killing efreeti outside the pyramids. Rootable and snarable, they don't seem to summon. The pairs at the bottom of the pyramid stairs are single pullable.

Regarding drops for the efreeti death visage quests after about 3 days I have gotten from the efreeti around the outside of the south pyramid:
3x token of alignment
1x token of order
1x platinum efreeti (pe) gauntlets
1x pe helm
1x pe chestplate
2x pe bracer (you need two I believe)

Afer a few more days of killing here at the south pyramid I pretty much got duplicates of all the armor items above, even the gloves. So either the rest are rare these days ( I hear the gloves used to be) or else I need to move around and kill elsewhere.

Mob HP:
65K An efreeti enthraller
73K An efreeti lord
89K Rockstorm
40K A rhinoback beetle
36K A large scorpion
85K - 95K Hand of <xxx>
60-65K a crag ravager

Mob Notes:
None of the no-name outside mobs seem to summon. None summon that I've seen at all.
The Hands are pretty much normal mobs with more XP. I've seen 3 pop outside instead of an efeeeti.
Distillate of Antidote I works great to get rid of the Tash the enchanter efreeti cast.
The efreeti will once in a while either gate back to their spawn point at low health and also gain a little HP, or else they seem to gate to your position and whack you so if you see them poof, I'd back off a little.
The mobs run fairly slowly.
The efreeti casters pause a lot to cast on you.
When you're up a steep hillside they tend to look for a shallow way up and not follow you directly.
If you get too far away from them when you have agro they tend to wander away and possible get adds that way.
The efreeti sorceror pets are low hp ( 600-700 ) but I could not get a single spell to stick.I had to leave it to my necro pet. They hit for squat but nasty if you can't melee.

Was able to solo whirling dervish and bettles here no problem with a fairly well equipt necro at 63, and was able to solo with a 65 shaman alot harder but doable exp was great too
Pyramid annoyances
# Oct 08 2007 at 10:47 AM Rating: Decent
For the first time, I decided to investigate the non-instanced pyramids (in my case the SW one). After about 5 deaths, I gave up - it appears that the bug traps randomly shuffle around, and pretty much any corner can suddenly become a corner-o-death. Once, when I zoned into the pyramid on a CR, the second corner suddenly became bug-infested. I have run around in a circle 10 times, then when I next run past that exact same corner, suddenly the bugs spawn. How can anyone without CC or a strong group EXP in here? You can't pull MOBs and every step suddenly can become a multi-MOB agro deathfest...

Sure, the real pyramids were deathtraps, but the RvR here seems horribly skewed.

There isnt alot of posts regarding this zone. Also, i want to believe that there is more to this zone than the Efreeti Mask quest and arc tasks.
There are 2 things that puzzle me... First is the missing (or hidden) sphinx. and the second is how come the mobs at the spire just southwest of the sunken pyramid (above where the Katta portal is) con that they cant SI but you cant approach w/o being attacked..
There is an efreeti lord up there that casts (lords dont cast.. except that one)

Just a little thing about the See Invis part. That tower above the Katta zone in does have a habit of casting an AE spell that will do very small amounts of dmg (don't remember how much off hand) and that of course removes invis....if you're near a mob their going to fly at you and try to kill you ;P. At first i thought that the spell was a trap set off by walking in a certain spot because i don't think my pet aggroed anything until i did (which it would have had a mob cast the spell in any way shape or form) however when this happens the mobs flying at me hitting for 1.5k tends to make it so i can't see if my pet aggroed before the mobs did or not and i usually am not paying much attention to that at that point so i'm starting to think atm that the mobs (casters at least) cast an AE DD spell every once in awhile to catch unfortunate invis passer bys because if i recall i think i saw during one of these instances "an efreeti blah begins to cast a spell" and saw one of the mobs in their spell casting graphic before i got hit, uninvisd and aggroed. But still uncertain atm =/ I think there is another spot in the zone that this happens but i can't remember where. Also i would like to throw in a couple of other tid bits of info on the zone while i'm at it (i spent too much time in here on that mask quest) 1. by the game board and in the sunken temple at the zone in the Sphinx in each of those areas has an aura effect around them called Sipher of the Sphinx" or something similar. this makes you dubious to any mob that would ordinarily be KoS alowing you to move about safely. 2. The recent strength changes of the TBS zones did NOT affect the efreetis, crag beast, golems, gorrilas, holgresh, or dervishes in Atiiki only the bugs. basically anything that can be a PH for a named (the Crag beast, dervish, Holgresh and efreeti named) remain the same. also the xp hits on the weakned mobs were weakened a bit themselves.

I just hit this zone today for the first time...
I did a reverse charm process on a few of the beatles, landing about 5-7% AA xp per kill. (almost no regular xp to note, not a solid % anywhere to be seen, even after around 5 kills)

The sorcerer/enthraller Efreetis, however, were giving me something like 35% AA xp. (I haven't tested regular level xp yet)
I gained 3 AAs in about 30 minutes solo, as an enchanter thats a newb at reverse charming.
