This massive ocean separating Faydwer from Antonica is home to many creatures.
There are sirens, goblins, spectres, seafury cyclopses, aviaks, and local pirates.
The two main islands provide a bit of comfort with some vendors, an inn and Tunare-aligned wood elves.

Two popular attractions of the Oceans of Tears would be Allizewsaur and the Ancient Cyclops.
Allizewsaur roams an island in the south while the Ancient Cyclops can be found east of Seafury island.

To get to the ocean of tears from Butcherblock Mountains, see Translocator Fithop on Northern pier west side of zone. She is located real near /loc +1,353, +3,256. Not in map find.

OMG Corpse runs!! I remember doing this in OOT back in 1999 when EQ first came out. I lost a body in the water and it decayed and I rerolled a new rogue because I was so sad my necro disappeared. I miss that early game, but I wouldn't ever want to live through it again.

Aviak Talons...

Does anyone know if you get something or turn in the aviak talons you get from OoT?

Thanks

RE: Aviak Talons...

Yes, you can turn in OoT aviak talons to the paladin guild in Kaladim for some experience and faction. It's quite good experience at level 18; I got about 4 blue bubbles for 16 talons. You do have to turn in 4 talons at a time.

You will need to be considered "kindly" by the Clerics of Underfoot in order to perform this quest. You can raise your faction by turning in bone chips (LOTS of bone chips if you aren't already a CoU) or by killing Krag chicks and turning in their talons.

What do I do with the fishing hooks found on Brother Island?
RE: fishing lures
# Feb 27 2001 at 5:43 AM Rating: Decent
By a tackle box from the same npc that sold you the hooks..

You put 3 items in the tackle box : (any hook) + (silk thread) + (one of the following items : Pixie Wing, Bixie Wing, Rat Fur, Bat Fur, Gnoll Fur, Giant Bat Fur, Wasp Wing, or a Fairy wing)

click combine and you should find yourself with a new fishing fly :)

Quick question about hunting on the Aviak Island. There is a two-spawn by a firepit with a dwarf next to it. Will the dwarf attack if the aviaks are attacked, or is does he not care?

I've been hunting on this island and it's great! I've just been avoiding that one spawn (and Gull) till now, but if I could hit that spawn too it would be even better.
RE: Aviak Island
# Nov 13 2000 at 3:04 PM Rating: Decent
My Gnome Enc was there and that Dwarf conned amiable to me. When we pulled the Aviaks by the fire, the dwarf did NOT assist them.

That makes that fire pit prolly the best spawn on that island.

Has anyone ever bothered to explore the depths of the Ocean of Tears? Do we know if there is anything out there? What kind of mobs lerk in these deep waters? Man, wouldn't it be cool to find something noone has ever heard of? Maybe Verant is hiding great things, and nobody cares to look!?

I would like to await a response to this post before I go diving. Otherwise, I will be summoning about 20 Waterstones and ridin the waves. If you would like to join me I will be on Prexus.

On one end of the sister island are the Tubrins, a nice dwarf couple who stand too far from each other to know when the other is getting killed. These are GREAT mobs to kill if you are a strong solo class around 30, or a buddy team if you are not a strong solo class. They drop coin ranging from 4cp to 5pp, and are outstanding XP. I am not certain of their exact level, they conned blue to me at 29-31. They do hit rather hard, 52 max, double attack kick bash and all that, but use your standard tactics to avoid getting pounded.
One problem with this area is the wandering pirates and sisters often aggro you, especially when taking a break. I recommend sitting down near the water to the male dwarf's right, out of his aggro range. They conned apprehensive to me when I started killing them in early 29, and by mid 30 I was KOS, which was a nasty surprise I had been medding right on their spawn point.
By the way, don't Fear. If they run to the Sister NPCs, you are dead if you are an evil character (which you probably are if you are killing dwarves).

The girl (Elona) is 24-25, the male (Hugan) is 25-26. Watch out for Zyle Windshot who likes to spawn during fights and backstab you once or twice for 72 max (low blue to me, has -pirate faction, +fironia vie faction). Saw a 20 mage solo here, grouped with her at 20 also and got great exp. I plan on going here at lvl 22 to solo the two.

Level 20? Somehow I doubt that. At lvl 30 my bard needed a little help to solo these. I've seen lvl 25 and 26 necro's struggle with them. They have relatively high MR for their level (as a lot of dwarfs seem to).

The biggest problem with killing dwarfs for good races is the docks in Butcher Block. If you don't have some form of invis, be aware that taking a boat to and from Faydark will be tricky henceforth.

I forgot to mention in my other post, mages nuke with fire-based and magic-based spells. I am not sure about the resistability of poison-based and such by dwarves, but I do not have much trouble with mobs resisting Shock of Blades. I won't be attacking many dwarves to test this, however, so perhaps a DE mage can check them out.

Trust me, she conned even, and I watched her do it. She had the special torch for fire elems like I said, and she barely made it out of fights, she seemed to win about 4 out of 5. All she did was nuke a couple times, then heal her pet 2 or 3 times, and nuke the rest. I have a feeling her pet and its damage sheild (fire elemtals have damage sheilds equal to their level) did a good deal of damage, but none the less I PERSONNALY WATCHED IT. Granted, she needed help a few times but overall she won more then she lost.

Ah, with a torch you say. Magicians are often underrated, often by people who have never seen a good one in action. The mage DD is very powerful although less than a wizard, of course. The particular style I play with, I use a fire elemental and do well versus yellow crocs and even drybones at lv 17. Playing a mage well is tricky, and I'm still working out how to solo high yellows and low reds effectively. I will say that necros are better able to keep themselves alive, but when I need damage output I look for a magician.
RE: Whack A Dwarf -- Druid style
# Dec 11 2000 at 11:54 PM Rating: Decent
Recently levelled from 26 to 27 on these Dwarves and thought that I'd add my observations.

Firstly, magic resists - using Snare, Creeping Crud and Careless Lightning, found that Snare was resisted more than my usual average, Crud was never resisted, Lightning was completely resisted once only, but did less than max damage more often than not (it's a bit embarassing when a 99pt DD hits for 3 damage).

Also tried the Root, DoT, Med method, but abandoned this due to the erratic duration of Ensnaring Roots.

Second, faction - faction is Kaladim Citizens which includes the Dwarven NPCs in Butcherblock (e.g. Delin Ironblend), but does not appear to include the Dwarven Guards or Merchants. Was Warmly to Guards, Apprehensive to Merchants and Apprehensive to NPCs when I arrived in OOT. Upon reaching 27 I went back to BB to check factions and was still Warmly to Guards, Dubious to NPCs but had gone up to Indifferent with the Merchants. Made sure that Camo was not up as that was an unexpected result.

Finally, to echo other observations, these guys are great XP and have dropped up to 4-5pp on occasion. In addition, only had competition for the spawns twice and Glendl Vargnus, another Dwarf of similar level, spawns at the other end of the island. He spawns near to Doran Vargnus who is about level 45 and conned Warmly to me, which suggests that he may be Stormguard faction like the Dwarven guards (either that, or he just likes Halflings)

Happy hunting...

Want to get a dwarf cleric to 17 in under 6 hours? If you have a high level character (pet caster preferably) heres how.

1. Create a dwarf cleric, camp it out somewhere near the paladin guild (back behind the bank) preferably some where out of the way where no one goes. Empty clerics inventory.

1. Empty main characters inventory of everything but 8 empty player made bags and 2 stacks of bone chips. (ok bring food some malachite/ and extra bone chips if your a necro etc, but otherwize empty)

2. Bind main character in kaladim, Same place as previous character. Run to boat, hop on boat. (If druid then ignore the bind instruction)

3. Hop off boat shortly past brother island, run to aviak island (2000, 4000) If druid the bind here.

4. Cast a pet, and proceede to slaughter aviaks, keep the whole island basicaly dead. Loot everything, keep only the aviak talons. If you are fast you should have a full load of talons in 45min -1hr. (51 mage pet goes about this fast)

5. Gate to kaladim. Drop the bags log off ( or have a friend transfer stuff to newbie if you're paranoid)

6. Log in cleric, pick up the bags.
Turn in the bone chips to get faction with the under foot sufficiently high. Then turn in the aviak talons. The bone chips are the dwarf on the left, just before the balcony in the paladins guild. The talons are the dwarf in the back by the table. Both have conversations that lead up to the items so if you dont know which, start hailing.

7. camp out cleric (now level 8) and repeat 4 or 5 more times. (depending on patients and desire to twink.

WARNING: Author is NOT responcible for injury to hand and or wrist mussles cause by repative use of keyboard/mouse that this stratogy may entail. Use of proper wrist support and proper typing positioning is the responcibility of the reader.

Enjoy.

NOTE: Odds are good on getting a ebon war spear and or a ingot of the fervent. The ingot can be used with the icon you get in highpass and a bar of enchanted plat to get a cleric arm peice. Which sells decently or can be used for the twink, See above. The war spear is a nice shaman item. Sells well to lower levs.

NOTE: Yes you can do other classes but i listed cleric here cause its easiest and takes the least bone chips to get the faction high enough to turn in the talons. I did this effectively with a enchanter as well as a cleric. I suppose a dwarf paladin would work as easy as the cleric, but who wants to twink one of those? JK, no need to get upset all you dwarf pladins out there. Sheesh try to make a joke....

Yes you can go further than 16 here. But thats when it starts to slow down, and I am not a particularly patient person.

Feel free to improve on the stratogy, IE have a druid bind on the island and run the stuff to the twink for you. Or whatever.

If it's a cleric can't he just practice his spells over and over?
and then dump practive points into his weapon skill of choice?

other then the so-so ethics of a powerlevel it seems fine

Apperently there is a bug on the Sister Isle in OOT that causes any player who attacks a roaming pirate infront of a Sister of Errolsi to instantly become KoS for the duration of your battle to that sister. Even though there are quests directly involving these pirates death, that are given by the sisters, make sure you do these well away from their huts. I don't know if this is purposeful by some Verant decision, or just an oversight, but in any case watch out, I hate getting hit by a 324dmg punch when I shouldn't be.

UM, thats sort of weird. Whenever I went here the pirate was a level 17 mob that DID do some annoying backstabs, but besides that was easily killed by my pet. If you are level 24-34 and hunting sisters or dwarfs on the island, he will be to trouble to you, jsut an annoyance.
Aviaks for midteens
# Aug 24 2000 at 11:36 AM Rating: Decent
Hi,

ever wondered where to go if South Karanas Aviak Village is overcrowded? Well there is the aviak island (shown on most maps of OoT) wich can only be reached by canoe or swiming (swimming is ok for those with a skill of 80+, but it gets scary past the point of no return then your stamina drops below half). On the island are several different types of aviaks much more colourfull than their continental bethren but with the same characteristics (e.g. no faction, most races never get KOS there regardless how many birds you kill).
Simply pull whatever cons blue to you. I did some soloing there around level 15 and exp was great (unless you get killed)
Having a druid or enchanter along for mesmerizing or harmony greatly increases the number of spawns you can do safely, but even when you are alone, judicious pulling allows you to safely fight all night long without any agressive monsters close and more important without any competition most of the times.
The only time I ever encountered someone on the island was a high lvl druid on some quest.
Melee types beware: getting killed here might result in the longest corpse run you have ever seen so far, but it is totally unneccessary.

So if you want some uncontested hunting and good exp bring a buddy along (it gets really lonely there) and happy hunting.

RE: Aviaks for midteens
# Aug 29 2000 at 7:26 PM Rating: Decent
Be sure to pick your prey carefully on the aviak island - the way to escape is to run away from the mob you can't kill and gate out. Make sure your bind point is outside the OOT zone, or all the birds on the island will aggro on you when you return.
RE: Aviaks for midteens
# Sep 02 2000 at 10:49 PM Rating: Good
Rather -- make sure your bind point is far enough away that you can camp before the MOB gets to you... this way you do not have to take a boat ride every time you need to beat feet... For example when fighting sea fury cyclopses I bind myself on the farthest point on Sister Island from the Cyclops Island.

Getting a ride
# Aug 24 2000 at 5:57 AM Rating: Decent
If you are on one of the islands without a dock and want to be picked up by the boat, its rather easy. Swim directly in the path of the boat, hold your head as high above the water as possible and swim forward. The boat will go right over you and you will appear on the lower deck.
Works great when you're hunting Goblins or Sirens as any class without gate.

Seeing as how you cant get to a bank from here without a boat ride everyone needs a way to convert their small coins to pp so they dont have to drop/destroy them, especially people hunting Gornit and getting 100sp from every kill. The simplest method is to use a vendor. Find a vendor with a high price item that will sell back for near its purchase price. Gems and the armor on the dwarven vendor are good, weapons are bad. Buy the item and sell it back repetetively until you finally have mostly pp and a few small coins. If your charisma is 103+ then you can convert, approximately, 1000gp into 93pp. With lower charisma the rate gets worse, down to something like 1000:40, but anything is better than destroying the stuff.
RE: Coin conversion
# Feb 06 2001 at 8:11 PM Rating: Decent
Don't know if this is relevant for OOT, researching hunting here...

another option, if you're getting small coins, sp or cp, find a fishing merchant, buy stacks of bait, they sell back at cost, but if you sell in stacks you get the larger coin values...

may work with other trade skill supplies, have not checked yet...

Gornit, who spawns in the water near the pirate camp, is by far the best source of actual monetary loot in the game. He drops 1-50pp, 1-100gp, 1-200sp, and 1-300cp, with an average take of 25 plat among about 200 coins. Gornit is green to anyone hunting seafuries and should be no problem to any group capable of holding their own on his island.

Anyone over 40 can get in on the SF action, with group size diminishing as you approach 55. Seafuries range in level from 38 to 44 with a good mix of all levels. The best way to kill them is to set your group up near the druid ring and pull to there since it is a safe spot. Actually almost the entire beach is safe but the druid ring is the largest safe area so you can spread out some if you wanna play pingpong with the cyclops.
Check out my Gornit post for some good side money while doing this.

Gargoyles
# Aug 22 2000 at 10:26 PM Rating: Decent
If your a caster preferably a Necromancer, Magician or Druid and around lvl 18+. This is one of the best places to solo and acquire great loot. Take the First Boat from NFP (Not from BB) continue the voyage, pass the sister's island and to your left you should see a island with dead trees and black in colour. Swim towards the island as soon as you touch down med and buff your self up with any spells posible. Find a gargoyle and use your class specific tactic to take it down. They give great exp and loot (Gargoyle eyes that you can sell for 8pp to a vendor) There are also spectre's here which higher lvl players hunt try find out their names and strike up a conversation with them and get them to save your little hide when you need help )
one more thing bind in NFP

Believe it or not, non soloing non casters CAN hunt here as well <wry grin>. Don't let the necro's and druids of the world fool you.

This island has 3 types of mobs. Greater Skeletons, Gargoyles, and Spectres.

We have a deal w/ the specs, we don't bug them, they don't aggro on us. In other words, leave them be and you'll be just fine.

The Skellies and the Gargs share spawn points and are KOS to each other. This means that if the island has been un hunted for a while, the gargoyles will continue to kill off skels until the island is spawned with just gargs. Once you arrive, however, that will slowly change. If you do nothing but kill gargs, eventualy the island will be full of skels. It's important, therefore, to kill the skel's as well to free up their spawn for more gargs.

Sorry, necros, these skells never drop bone chips.

The xp is great. My charismatic faction loving bard can sell the eyes for over 9pp each to the sisters on sister island. It's a fantastic place to spend your upper teen years :)
Sirens
# Aug 22 2000 at 9:40 PM Rating: Decent
Alluring Sirens... excellent xp for levels as low as 12 up through as high as 16. If you take the boat from Freeport to Butcherblock, you will eventually pass through a pair of islands -- on the left-hand one you will see aqua goblins, and on the right, a pair of alluring sirens. Jump off here, and be prepared to have fun. These sirens are about level 14 or so, but can be solo'd by most classes (or taken very easily in duos) at level 12. A single siren spawns on the island with the aqua goblins, if you don't feel big enough to take on two at a time yet. They hit hard, but don't have many hp, so should be fairly easy. Only dangers: no guards to run to, and a long boat ride to get your corpse if you can't bind here. Strategy of course differs with each class, but it should be pretty easy to figure out. Good luck!

You can start on the single siren spawn if you are a level 8 magician/necro/enchanter or a level 9 druid. Other classes can start on it at 10/11. It gives great exp., and can get you to level 14 before its below decent. If you are a pet class or druid then you can start doing the double siren spawn at level 12. They are VERY good exp., and the 2x siren spawn can get you to level 18(although I wouldn't reccommend it for people who are poor, the loot sucks).
