The Ultimate Team in Oasis
# Dec 14 2001 at 7:46 AM Rating: Decent
Say what you will, but the Rogue/Druid combo in Oasis is the best team for rapidly gaining levels.

The target: Crocs (all of them... blues to reds)
The Druid's Role: Snare and Fear Animal.
The Rogue's Role: Backstab, backstab, backstab.

Typical encounter: Druid snares croc. Croc comes after druid. Just before the croc gets within snapping range, the druid fears it. Enter, the rogue. The croc runs directly away from the druid, and the rogue follows on its tail attacking relentlessly and BSing every 8 seconds. The fear will wear off, and the druid reapplies when he sees the croc turn on the rogue. The rogue may get hit 5 or 6 times during this entire process. The druid will usually have to cast fear 2-3 times... medding the rest of the time... and having more than enough mana to heal up the rogue at the end of combat.

Using this method, the druid will stay nearly full of mana, and the rogue will keep at least 80% of his/her health at all times.

You could substitue the rogue for some other melee class... but, in this scenario, who else deals more damage??? When Oasis is uncrowded, you can pull/kill crocs at a rate of one per minute.

This is the ultimate LOW RISK - HIGH RETURN combat in the game. And, it's a highly viable tactic from 14th to 20th. The only drawback is boredom and total lack of loot. But, if you're looking to level through the teens as fast as possible, this is it. Good luck.
Deepwater Goblins
# Nov 11 2001 at 3:15 PM Rating: Default
As a bard, I have to go all over to collect items for the Lambent Armor. And NO, I do not want to buy it. However, I'm having problems collecting the Opoline Helm form a Deepwater Goblin in the Oasis of Marr. I haven't even tried to camp them in Lake Rathetear, because there are numerous problems that would make it near impossible. Oasis is my best shot, but I need help. Does anyone have any advice about how to kill these things? Here's what I know so far from other posts and experience, to help any who follow my path:
The goblins are spellcasters and have a 250 DD heat based spell, and a powerful cold based one. They shoot arrows for around 20 damage. If you're in wolf form, you can single pull as they don't agro on wolves. It's best to try and pull them to land for fighting, but they hurt so bad so may die before you break the surface. They are 33rd-36th level, but they are extreme undercons. Meaning they fight like 40th level cretures. DO NOT attempt to solo these if youre a 25-30 bard. As a 35 bard with another 35 character I was annihilated by one, or maybe two of these. I didn't count them as I was too busy swimming away. You should know that their tower is underwater neat the spectre island, but you won't have any problems with spectres, they're quite far away. The closest zone in South Ro. Don't pull to the docks, you'll die before you get there, and no one will save you if you do. I've heard that occasionally a rare spawn or 2 pops in their underwater tower, but I haven't seen it. Above all, be careful, and be prepared. I'm not saying a mid 30's group cannot take them, but if you are unprepared you will die. Quickly. Well, that's what I know. Anyone have anything to add?

I've been hunting the North Ro area up to my thirteenth season as a magician. At this point I find it pretty safe for the most part, so I decided to take my water elementals a bit south to this Oasis which I've heard so much about. After reading your comments it looks like I'm in the right place to work through the next few seasons. I haven't cast a single spell there yet, but there's a first time for everything. Here I go...

October 31, 6:10AM

Well, I'm back and I must agree that you guys were correct in everything you said. I finally made the 14th season after soloing a couple dozen blue and white caimans and a few yellow crocs. Like any new zone, I was fearful for about the first half hour or so, but I found the tip about meditating on the pillars to be very helpful. Not only is it safer out there, but you also get a chance to work on your swimming a little. So far, I died only a few times, but mostly due to carelessness (i.e. fighting yellow crocs while low on mana) and not really due to double-teaming by multi-mobs. Overall, the gator beaches are good experience, but the payoff is horrid. I find myself jumping at dune tarantulas, madmen, and cistern asps whenever I can spare the mana.
Easy exp

I would like to give you a good strategy (though a rather common one) for this zone. First find a healer (even a ranger will do) then, havve him (if they can) track for crocs and caimans. Betweeen what they track and pull, and what comes skitteriung accross your path you can get easy expierience real fast. I got 3 times the expierience I got in crushbone from huntign reds in a half hour just killing yellow and white crocs and blue and white caimans with an occasional orc warrior and shriveled mummy thrown in. Hope this is helpful.

A great place to hunt (if you know what youre doing ) is the wall at the end of the orc highway. Its real close to the nro zone, and if you pull TO THE WALL the othewrs walkin around wont agro to you

Hi all i'm a level 17 warrior on the Bristlebane server and I have been hunting in the oasis for about 4 levels now.I am now noticing that the exp is starting to get kinda slow hunting at High Way so i was just wondering what another good creature is to hunt for a 17 warrior that gives ok exp.

I have a lvl 21 mage that i Hunted in oasis with until lvl 20. I started out doing orcs but found out when they agro and come in mobbs, it gets pretty ugly. So i switched Gators. Deepwater Crocs and Deepwater Caiman are great exp from 17-20. I lvl'd very quickly but you really need to solo them. You should be able to since you have a large amount of life on a warrior but your healing downtime is alot unless you have a friend at your side.

Reaction to Iksars?
# Oct 07 2001 at 11:06 PM Rating: Decent
I've been thinking about a trip to Oasis for my 15th level Iksar Shaman. The big stopping point for me has been a concern that _everything_ including the reason I came (the gypsies) will aggro on me. Is this a correct understanding of the factions in Oasis? Is it even feasible for an Iksar to trade with the Gypsies, or would I need a go-between?
RE: Reaction to Iksars?
# Feb 25 2002 at 2:35 PM Rating: Decent
i have an iksar and the gypsies are dubious to me and dont aggro. there is even one on the tent closest to the lake that is indifferent that will sell and buy from you. the merchants at the inn are dubious also and wont sell or aggro. i'm not entirely sure about the fishing village. the npcs there dont aggro on me but i dont remember what they con and i know they are far below my lvl of 54. so it is safe for you to hunt in oasis with the normal exceptions for everyone, i.e. ( SGs , spectres, etc. etc. ) good luck

The docks and its problems
# Oct 01 2001 at 8:26 PM Rating: Decent
First i would like to greatly insult all he people who stand there ad watch you die, then start killing your attacker right when you die. I would like to point out to those people one thing: WHEN SOMEONE YELLS FOR HELP IT MEANS THEY WANT IT NOW BEFORE THEY DIE NOT AFTER THEY DIE!!!

That said i would like to point out some problems at fighting around the docks. When you try to pull directly to the docks, people often start attacking the mob you are pulling, thinking it is about to kill you. That is why it is a good idea to stay a little distance away from the docks.

I would also like to ask where the boat at the docks goees, what level zone is its destination, and what is the lowest level creature there.

I would also like to add something many might find interesting, it came to my attention recently tat every once in a while you will find Topaz, Onyx, and other such precious stones on many of the non animal mobs in Oasis and Nro. I would like to ask is this because someone gave it to them ( i.e. someone gives topaz to a orc raider so some lucky person finds it when they kill and lo0t it) or is it a natural uncommon loot? Please tell me!!!

Also, there is a strange sg in Nro who is named , and not a pet, but is not aggresive, why is this, and is he part of a quest? please tell me!!!!

Mmmmmm, Noob!
First of all The named Sand Giant is Cazel he is part of the Enchanter Epic quest, he drops approxitmitly 33pp and the spoon the the quest.

Second of all the docks is the area where people rest and stay together for protction, so if you are pulling there everone thinks you need a help and will kill the Creature attacking you, so pull to somewhere else!

Third of all the boat goes to the Timorus Deep where you can get off then get the boat to the Overthere (an evil Fort) no Goody goods should even get on the boat until they are at least 30+ because there are ogre raiders in the Timorus deep about lvls 17-25.

Best place to med
# Sep 28 2001 at 9:12 AM Rating: Good
Run along the coast south of the docks. Just west of Pillar 2 and east of the inn is a huge dune. I often run to the peak of this dune and med. You can hear crocs roar around you or walk by, so you can stand up and whack on 'em. Then med some more. I have never had Sand Giants or Spectres attack me here, but I do have an occasional madman or skeleton.

Also, from this dune top, you can see the orcs just to your south. If you want to run down to pull an orc or two, that's another option.

If something goes wrong with a fight, run at an angle southwest between the orcs and the inn. You will zone into SRO in no time.

Thanks, I think I'll check this one out next time. I usually work the pillar just north of the dune you are speaking of, since its usually quiet there and not too crowded. But an occassional orc might be nice for some loot-hungry, gator hunters.

A dry bones skeleton hits you for 25 points.
A dry bones skeleton hits you for 25 points.
A dry bones skeleton hits you for 25 points.
A dry bones skeleton hits you for 25 points.
You have been slain by a dry bones skeleton.

Then as soon as i get my corpse it is:

A crypt mummy hits YOU for 36 points.
A crypt mummy hits YOU for 36 points.
A crypt mummy hits YOU for 36 points.
A crypt mummy hits YOU for 36 points.
LOADING PLEASE WAIT.

And the same happens with the madmen. My question is why in gods name do they atttack me all the time, i never do anything wrong to them (well not the madmen) and yet they seem to hate me! Also, how come specters here are pyschotic killers, but the spectres in qyenos let me hug and dance with them and run around them without doing anything? May I be the first to welcome you to Oasis. Except that you have received a less than welcoming reception from "Bloody skeletons, madmen and mummies". I had to compose myself to write this response because I was too busy laughing at your tale of woe and repeated death :P

Everybody and their pet dog (unless its name is 'Frostbite') visits Oasis during their teen years. Why?

(i) Exp grind - Crocs and Caimans - is widely reputed to be the best for the level range. Once you finish in Nro, zone into Oasis.

(ii) Promiscuity: extremely easy for certain classes to walk into various pick-up groups for some 'action'. Take your pick .. crocs/caimans and/or Orc Highway for a constant stream of pulls.

(iii) Laziness for the reasons above. Also, once you grow tired of Oasis, most either pack up and depart to High Hold Pass or Lake Of Ill Omen [LOIO]. The latter has the benefit - for evil races - of catching the boat at the docks to Timorous Deep, then catching another boat to Overthere.

To answer your question: level. Pure and simple. At 11th level, you are easy meat. It does appear to be a law of EQ that when you are below the stated zone level,(i) EVERYTHING will have a propensity to agro on you, (ii) and will have a corresponding INSANE agro radius. Or will give the impression of corresponding to the above rules.

I have been jumped by a good number of madmen but especially Dry Bones Skeletons (see my previous rants on the horror that are DBS).

There are a number of things to bear in mind when you hunt in Oasis:

(i) You WILL be jumped by the various agro mobs which wander Oasis in search of under-level players like yourself. Just to rub salt in the festering wounds of your corpse, said mobs will often make some retort, such as .. 'You <class> really bring out the worst in me' -- Dry Bones Skeletons.

(ii) You WILL run to the zone line like a girl when you hear the dreaded /shout SPECTRES LOOSE!

Erm, so what was my argument for hunting in Oasis?

Lockjaw and giants with names

Okay I got some questions, one? Who exactly is Lockjaw? Is he involved in a quest? Also, Why does this one giant named jabel or something con indifferent to me, and then Cazel is scowling rreeady to attack? and why do the god damn spectres always get loose and kill my friends( i can run fast and hide so i escape usually) please help me out!!!
RE: Lockjaw and giants with names
# Mar 24 2003 at 11:00 PM Rating: Decent
1. Lockjay is an evil crocidile who'll aggro even thoough other crocs tho. I remember him because he killed my warrior =) He drops a lockjaw hide vest, nice newb gear.
2. The giant named jabel is probably someon'e pet (charmed him) therefore he would be indifferent to you. Cazel however is not a pet! (unless someone makes him one) he is a very mean giant!
3. The reason why those god damn spectres always get loose are probably because higher lvls are hunting them, died or ran away in the process, and so now the specs are running around instead of styaing on there little island.

ok, I just wanna say ONE thing. It annoys me sooooo much. Ok, the docks in oasis as most know are a popular place to meet people/med/fight etc. Ok... every day I fought there i heard 50 people complain "Stop pulling to docks!" or "I keep dying cause there's so many creatures at docks!" or crap like that. Well guess what geniusses... there's a PILLAR sticking out of the water right next to docks. Think, put 2 and 2 together folks. You've never heard someone complain about dying at pillar. MED AT THE FREAKING PILLAR! there's more space than at docks, at MUCH less giants/spectres/trains etc! So next time you hear "pulling spectre to docks!" GO TO THE PILLAR and dont do your lame shouts of "take it to Nro or Sro!" Come on people, i dont mean to be mean, but whenever someone says they were killed at docks, i laugh. So from now on, you can take your sorry little self, sit on pillar, and watch all those idiots get killed at docks! So plz guys, again... THINK! I dont think saying "take it to nro" is gonna change people's minds. Thanks)

"Ok, the docks in oasis as most know are a popular place to meet people/med/fight etc."

-- Anonymous

On one hand, I do understand your argument: there will ALWAYS be stupid people (or just ignorant .. 'Self! You have to edumacate these people!') who will train to the docks, therefore med somewhere else; in this case, by the pillar.

On the other, however ..

"Ok, the docks in oasis as most know are a popular place to meet people/med/fight etc."

How NOT to make friends and influence people .. as you have already stated, the docks area is usually full of players healing, resting, shooting the breeze (generally /shout for breeze :P) whatever. If you have to train, then PLEASE haul *** to either the Sro or Nro border.

Heck!? You can outrun most mobs by running up and down the dunes rather than along on a flat plain (with the exception of crocs and caimans -- deceptively fast) .. besides, Nro is an open border -- just run north past /loc 2500/ --- ..

Or if you are training 1 or 2 mobs (say, a DBS coupled with a madman) then please *announce* the mobs before your arrival. However, if you managed to pull an horrendous orc train (or spectres ..) then either:

(i) Attempt to train them to a border, or ..
(ii) Accept that you will die, and choose a valiant spot for self-sacrifice (and somewhere accessible to perform a CR).

Yes, I have witnessed a thick, black solid line of spectres, coupled with a few DW goblins, run riot through the dock, and up the shoreline to the Nro border. Awesome sight, if stood on a sand dune by the border .. Absolute carnage ..

While I do accept that "take it to Nro" will not change the minds of dullards, a whole zone of angry players who have added the trainer to their /ignore list, may well have some impact.

[Edited by Riotgirl: /em performs a 'volte face'. I may not entirely agree with the tone of the above post, but I *do* agree with the advice .. please heed the advice re: med by pillar, and take it ..]

Getting exp and Loot in Oasis
# Aug 28 2001 at 12:30 PM Rating: Default
If you are from lvls 13 to 17 heres how to get great exp and loot in Oasis. First i suggest grouping all the time, (unless of course you are a class that can solo easily). Then you should hunt crocs and caimens for awhile to get the great exp from them. Then when you feel that you know the zone well enough, and how you fight things there get in an orc highway group. The exp you get from these guys is only a little less than from the crocs, and they are plentiful and often give good loot, such as gold or bronze weapons, (which can be sold for a few plat), and raw-hide armor which sells for 4- 8 gold depending on the piece. Then i suggest just switching back and forth from grouping on the highway for loot and okay exp and killing crocs that give great exp but no good loot. This method which i have used works great, you lvl fast and get reletively good loot. Hope it works for anyone else who trys it.

My party and I had the best of luck hunting in Oasis. We were 15ish, a warrior, cleric and myself, a rogue. It worked really well with all the crocks and deepwaters and anything then wound it's way astray. We never were in trouble as far as life, even when our caster ran out of mana from time to time. And a plus, a lot conned Red to us, so it was good exp. Just no loot.

hype about dry bones skele
# Aug 13 2001 at 9:35 PM Rating: Default
I dont think the dry bones skele is all that tough. at lvl 13 i was hunting with a chanter similarly lvl 13. we were jumped by the skele (red con) and did all we could to fight it. the chanter went down as it was resisting all of my vs undead spells. well needless to say i ran lol, to the shores where folks were killing crocs. thanks to them, i lived to kill the skele. i guess they were clerics, (one conned yellow to me at 13, other was white) because they healed me up. i turned to fight the skele (there was no more running at this point) and so did they. to my knowledge, they only meleed the skele, i dont remember seeing them pop off a nuke. if this sounds impossible, well since it happened last month i probably forgot some details. maybe i didnt con one of the people there but *shrug* it did take four total people to kill the ******* so maybe i remembered right.

"I dont think the dry bones skele is all that tough."

--Aellion

May I ask you to please proof-read what you have written *before* you post? It will make your posts more intelligible and possibly, may stop you from completely destroying your own argument :P

Dry Bone Skeletons [DBS] - aside from Spectres - are one of the most dangerous hazard of Oasis. Sand Giant's? Move slow, are cumbersome and you can hear and see them from one side of the zone to the other. On the other hand, DBS take the appearance of a slighly dusty, regular skeleton -the main staple of one's newbie/lowbie years - and blend in with the desert surroundings.

It is *extremely* easy to mistake them for:
(i) a skeleton found in any newbie zone, or
(ii) a necromancers pet.

Easy and obvious mistakes to make until you are hit with a torrent of spells, and hear that cackling, childish laughter.

As your enchanter (see above) found out, DBS's are generally red up to level 16. There is nothing more frustrating for a caster than to have all of their spells resisted by a red mob, and being reduced to /em twiddles whilst the rest of your group, melee with the critter.

Like madmen (caster and non-caster), DBS have the annoying propensity to suddenly *appear* in the middle of a tense, finely balanced fight. If you are pulling off the Orc Highway and have those vile and evil, Orc Priests to contend with, being jumped by a DBS could well swing the balance and result in a few CR.

my strategy (im a lvl 10 necro) is to not go to the gypsies much for the lower levels because thats where orcs and spectres hang out, (people pull them onto land sometimes errrrrrrr). Or what a necro should do when fighting who is atleast lvl 8, turn invisible before u fight, and just incase, do shadowstep when ur gonna run from somethin. Another thing is that spectres are very slow. Taeelen.

Umm if you think bards is a bad solo class you not playing correctly. Bards are one of the better solo classes. But you need to understand what all your songs do. Around level 14 you should twist bellows and CoD and more bellows if your soloing. Bellow at level 14 will only be doing 8 damage which may not seem like alot but it adds up, it sorta like a warriors kick. CoD is a AoE DOT which damage will dd up. If your mob if getting the upper hand on you, remember to switch to Selos and run. You can Selo's and cast 3 bellows and selos again to kite.

At upper levels bards get to snare and fear. Snare is level 25 fear is 26 charm is 27. With these songs Bards become solo machines if they want.

I have grouped with one a couple of times and they offer SOW etc... which for me as a pally is damn useful... in my opinion it's not the class but the person playing it... if you prove your worth people remember and will invite you into their group... this is a social game not a professional arena!!! every class has their strengths and weaknesses... heaps say Paladins are worthless... but tell that to those I have laid hands on who are about to die...

There are heaps of characters out there who are just after another person for their group... you just have to keep an ear out... I just wish I had the time to group properly...

Obviously you have never tried that, once charmed, they loose thier invulnerability.

Orc groups are very good for loot, and the exp is good from about level 14-17, after that most everything is either green or blue with the occasional yellow or red.
Crocs and caimans (and the DW types especially) are even better exp but no real loot and usually universally camped. If you can get a few people together and have a ranger with track (much nicer than wandering blindly) you're good to go.
Also: The patch on 6/27? corrected the A orc/An orc difference. Now there are only An orcs and you must con all to detect difference.

I agree, The leveling is great here in oasis. I've gone from 13-17 here. It's a great area, but what's up with the idiots training specters throughout the damn zone without so much as a warning!! For those of you who don't know how to hit "/shout specs to (fill in their location)!!", go and play Asheron's call or something.

For all the lowbies complaining about those hunting Specs.. It's a tricky business. You'll learn once you get higher lvl's. Sometimes you can Mez them, other times they resist, same with charm. I am 40 Mage and have been in several successfull Spec groups, took out 4-5 at a time.. then on one pull, Chanter's Spell's got resisted, and we all died..40+. Specs are tough pull's espescially in Oasis where you get the whole island. Give prop's to those with the ball's to hunt these creatures, instead of booing them.

I completely agree with you. The people pulling those things deserve a round of applause. Can you imagine the zone without them running around in it? Twice, nay three times as dangerous at the docks when they aren't there to pull it out of the fire when you are training along. The point is that everyone trains at some point or other, and i bet the person that posted the original post has killed more than one player in a particularly nasty train.
Deal with it the spectres are half the fun of hunting in this zone, adds to the danger and excitment. If there was no danger there would be no excitement, capish?

I have a new idea that might be fun for mages that like to roleplay - the water mage. You would only use the water pet, not any of the other pets, and you would only fight in watery areas. I think that this would actually be doable, and I might try it out. Here is what it might look like for you hunting in only watery spots:

1-7 : your newbie zones, don't have to hunt in water spot yet
8-15 : wisps in erud's crossing, sirens in OOT, Jonah in Lake Rathe at level 12
16-23: gargoyles in OOT, birds in Lake Rathe, lots of things in Lake of Ill Omen, crocs on beach of Oasis
24-34: sisters/dwarves in OOT, bunch of things in Lake of Ill Omen
35-38: spectre groups in OOT and oasis, gorillas in timorous deep with a partner, a few things in lake of ill omen
39-48: soloing gorillas in timorous or high level goblins in Lake of Ill Omen, can group and do specs in Oasis and OOT, can solo Gornit on Seafury Island, can group in Kedge Keep
49-55: seafuries in OOT and raptors in Timorous Deep

You wouldn't have to hunt 100% of the time in water areas, but you COULD get from 8 to 55 in only watery areas and still be able to pick up great exp. and money (good money would be from wisps, gargoyles, and gornit). I didn't even list a lot of the other watery spots that are also good hunting. I think it would be a fun roleplaying challenge. Would anyone else try it?

actually, i have been doing that without realising it..only im an earth mage:) ec,the karanas, and no ro...and osis for orc and crocs...but i have yet to fight in TD or LR or any "water zone" never fought in lava...so yeah my experience is in the earth mage catagory:)

besides the earth pet is the best anyway:-P he has more hp, hits harder, and generally lasts the longest:) so if u want to rock and roll through the lvls go earth....if u want to explore the path between you bind point and ur fighting point...go with water...cause ur gonnamake the treak quite a few times!
