Small zone two camps, gnolls, orcs (without bad faction). Progression people, we know how many people there are, these will always be camped. Consider alternatives.

Either the gnolls spawn where you are or they have a huge aggro radius. When I go there to hunt gnolls they tend to spawn in and attack faster than we can kill them, nomatter where we are. We camped near the Karana zone exit, and they started spawning right at the edge of the zone. Also, the gnolls, which are green to my 18 Ranger, aggrod me after spawning on top of me. All in all, I can't imagine hunting there anymore.

A lvl 17-22 can easily solo HHP, but you need to use a little strategy in order to do it safely. First learn the terrain. HHP is full of twists and turns, and if you have to make a run for it knowing where your going really helps (LoY also adds a Map tool that is very useful). Second point is to know your foes well. Gnolls have less hit points than the orc, but there are several types that cast Root spells that can really ruin your day. Gnolls spaw less than orcs, and will alway gen right above the gate or through the gate. The best place to hunt Gnolls is right above the gate where you can have a birdseye view. Orcs spawn at a frantic rate (much faster than the EC camps), so shoot them from a distance to pull and head for the zone. If you get into trouble by all means zone. Lastely, although the captains and guards are a great help they often will not kill the opponent in several blows. If you need their help make sure you have enough hit points that you can surive several rounds of melee with the guards help. Turn in scalps to the captains for extra XP.

Being a nice Troll, I'm KOS in HHP. To enter in HK, I spend my time fighting orcs. Fortunately, I'm dubious now - soloing orcs since 17 to 20.

During this time I loot a lot of orc scalp. But Captain Ashlan take them and give me no reward.

Should I be more than dubious ?

Dubious is SUPPOSED to work.

Note that the only reward is small coin and faction.

However, if you didn't get that, have a druid cast Wolfform on you, or an enchanter cast human illusion on you. either should get your faction planty high for this quest. I CAN confirm that apprehensive IS high enough (or was, several months ago).

... but you can work on the faction, if you believe it to be worth your time.

My Iksar Monk had to slaughter scores of the raiders on the river banks in both North and South Karana before he could safely pass Highpass Guards to approach Captain Ashlan and turn in Orc Scalps.

Is it worth a ton of fighting something that may not give you any exp to raise the faction(s) to get to something in HPH that will? That's up to you, but the sole motivation for my monk was to pass safely though the Corrupt Qeynos Guards and Freeport Militia to do the headband and sash quests at the human monk guilds in those cities.

Whatever you decide, good luck.

I came here last week to see if there were any posts about what to do with the Orc and Gnoll scalps that drop off mobs in HH Pass. Since there weren't any, and I found out the answer, I thought I'd pass it on. Give Orc scalps to Captain Ashlan who is on the bridge near the Orc camp (near the Kithicor zone). Give the Gnoll scalps to Captain Orben who is on the turret near the Gnoll camp (go around behind where the Gnolls spawn, turn left, and cross the bridge to find him). You get faction, experience and a few coins for each scalp you give to either of them. Remember to hand them over one at a time.

My friends and i camped the orcs by the kithicor zone and i have found you get amazing exp from an incredably easy spawn. Our group was a 17 monk, a 16 and a 17 bard, a 16 and 18 Beastlord, and a 16 paladin. I leveled with this group from 17 to 19 in 3 hours with no deaths and a minial downtime. This spawn is perfect for 16-20 and even without a healer or a pure caster is the easyest spot to level i have ever found even the superspawn (when about 8 orcs spawn at once) are easily defeated with minimal effort. well thats my 2cp

Fortunately, any hill giants that follow you in from East Karana will get stuck trying to squeeze through this narrow little pass to pound you to a bloody pulp. Once they wedged in nice and tight, just calmly walk over and proceed to slice off their ankles.

I'm a level 9 Ranger and too low to go head to head with High Pass Orcs Gnolls.

I've passed through HP several times to EK and usually stop to shoot any MOB casters that are fighting..don't do a whole lot of damage, but I think I keep them interrupted while they get finished off.

I sometimes stand in the zone and plink at the Orcs fighting outside until it clears enough for me to get by. Is this helpful or not? The only problem I could see would be if a bunch of people headed for the zone all at once, or if the zone was blocked by something big and ugly coming after me!

Anyway, its better archery practice than bats spiders and goblins in Misty..any advice? Oh, and I can sometimes offer a slight heal or a snare when it works for me.

be VERY careful in HPH in the orc area, there can be MASSIVE pops where about 15 can spawn within 15 seconds...this can be tricky when you have 4 medics, a couple a fanatics, a named orc, and half a dozen warriors and assorted orcs all beatin atcha...if you don't have a healer just run and wait for a high-lvl to clear it.

This place is quite amazing, being on sullon, their are few people in this zone, so it took me a while to get a group started (retarded druids think kiting in EK is better, tards!) I went two levels in 3.5 hours, gained about 120pp, and had a lot of fun. Being a warrior, it is awesome cuz sometimes if you have a lowish group and 2 fanatics and a mercenary spawn, a long with a bunch of soldiers and warriors you can be unprepared, but the fun in being caught up in a round of fighting, then almost dying, having a bunch of quick easys spawn, healing up then having another "superspawn" is funfunfun. Especially when you look at you exp bar and how you have gained 1.5 yellows since you last looked, then observing you're inventor and those 3 bronze weaps and 2 pieces of ringmail, a long with 4 research stuff, 9 gnoll scalps, and 15pp on you. The karanas are crap compared to the power of the hph orcs.

WARNING! Do not attempt the orc spawn solo, because by the time you can take it, you will already be too high for exp.

No bags, the Idol is a one time use, expendible item that has the clickable effect of divine aura. THis is a lvl 1 cleric spell, that grants the caster 18 seconds of invulnerability. In other words, it will save your ****, if you are fighting something near a zoneline, and are overrun. click, and you have 18 sec to make it to the zone.

Get a cleric or druid (or both), a couple of tanks and a nuker or 2. always use assist on main tank and you can fight from lvl 15-20 at the orcs. If you can't get in a group, partner with someone and fight gnolls till the orc group has a free place.
The fightings quick the xp very good and the loot not bad.
I played for 3 hours with a Pally today and gained one level from 15 to 16.

Secrets of High Pass Hold Revealed!
# Aug 30 2001 at 3:38 PM Rating: Good
The following is an unexaggerated story from High Pass Hold:

I'm a level 21 Mage that was growing kinda tired of the Karanas and wanted to try something different yet not too far away, so I bound myself in High Keep and went looking for trouble (read Gnolls) in High Pass. I was yet unfamiliar with the spawn points and since the Gnolls didn't exactly stay still, I decided to sit myself down at the top of a ramp by the one of the Inns (where they sell patterns and booze) and wait or trouble to find me.
Soon enough a Gnoll makes it up the ramp and combats my Water/Air pet while I either Nuke him back to the Stone Age or Heal my pet. When the MOB's dead, I loot and medd while the pet regens. Simple, yes? Well no later than two minutes pass when my pet gets attacked by a pair of Gnolls and I'm either buffin' or nuke. But sometimes my pet and I are not strong enough so I hoof it to the Inn where a pair of High Pass citizens save my bacon. After mourning the loss of my pet, resummon another and start back at the beginning. Since the zone's empty I assume that the spawns are just running around, right? Maybe my medding gives me a larger aggro range and they're drawn to me easier, right? Wrong!
One time I decide to rest at the Inn (I'm getting a little tired of wasting Malachite after two or three fights), summon my pet and wait at the top of the ramp. Since I'm FM, I decide to look down the ramp and see where the Gnolls are coming from. Lo and behold I see a Gnoll spawn right at the bottom of the ramp. Bonus! I'm right near a spawn! No more looking around frantically for a spawn point! (I was able to find some spawn points, but only because they get camped early in the evening) So I kill the Gnoll Champion, loot and medd. Unfortunately, before I can sit down six Gnolls spawn simultaneously from the spawn point and make a beeline to my pet. Since we're both at less than half strength, my pet puts up a valiant struggle while I beat feet to the Inn and its citizenry. Unfortunately, two HP citizens are no match for six aggroed Gnolls, so I had to flee to the nearest zone with Gnolls snapping at my heels.
Luckily I wasn't killed (boy was I surprised!), but I'll probably not hang out in HPH anymore. I'll dump my pieces of Ringmail armour I found and head back to the Karanas.

Mage 21

PS. I was later told that spawns with three or more monsters is possible. I've seen that before, but not like that!
Where Should I hunt
# Aug 26 2001 at 8:48 PM Rating: Default
Currently, I am a 15 dwarf pally. Northern Ro has stopped to give good exp., so where should i hunt. I was thinking possibly Oasis, Highpass Hold, or any other place on Antonica. The main thing i also wanna know, is if highpass hold is has really long waiting lines for camp spots, because I usually don't play for more than an hour a day.
First Gnolls - then Orcs
# Aug 21 2001 at 9:15 AM Rating: Good
good place to hunt there, loot is quite good, you get a lot of exp and - if careful - wont die too much.

Level 15: go to gnolls. they spawn near the zone to EK. Of course you need a group at that level. Snare and/or root is crucial because the gnolls will run away at low HP (at get killed bz the guards). You possibly COULD try gnolls at level 14 but they hit harder than in BB and have the abillity to cast spells. Interrupting their casting is quite easy but beware the DD spells of the soothsayer (hit for about 75HP). Gnoll shamen will heal the others so get 'em first. If things are going worse, run for the zone which is not too far away. On the other hand, dying isnt that hard there because you can be bond just everywhere in that zone.

Level 17 to 21: Orcs! Very good place to hunt. Its just next to the zone to Kithicor. I only died once there (i've been there from 16 to 22).
Although there are more spawning places, the orc area is mostly camped by a single group. So the waiting list can be VERY long - try to get there early. A good tactic is to camp near the wall next to the zone and let one pull the mobs. Pulling a single orc is quiet impossible because the greenies just pop in the middle of fight - so stay at the wall to avoid getting jumped in your back. The orc oracles can cast and they will heal their warrior and mercenary fellows - get them first! Dying here is not necessary ;-)
the zone is right next to you. If a train shows up either run for the zone or use root (mezzing them is very usefull - so use it if possible).
Make sure the group agrees to a looting order - orcs drop usually ringmail armor. The named orcs drop the shiny brass halberd, shiny brass idol and the shraloc pack (being the pack the rarest).

NOTE: KSing, Ninjalooting etc. is very common here. Orcs could be camped by two groups - but that ALWAYS leads to arguments or misunderstandings... *sigh*

You can stay at orcs until level 22 (exp slows down at 21) or move to highkeep (guardroom) at level 20...

I see a lot of posts on where to hunt in HHP and what levels. But I see little on tactics. One tactic I learned the hard way is that Gnoll Soothsayers (which are as common as house flies on ****) use the following spell sequence each time: Drowsy, Ignite, Frost Rift twice, then Ignite again, then Poison. The only spell worth a copper that they use is Frost Rift, which hits for up to 75 pts per whack. So, you smart casters out there, start buffing your party with Resist Cold and save a lot of mana on heal spells.
# Jul 06 2001 at 11:02 AM Rating: Default
When your hunting orcs in HPH there is one statigy that will take you from an average player to a good player. This is something everybody should know and I'm surprized that not everybody does. It is very very simple.

This is how it works:
The puller chooses his/he target and attacks. Everybody else stands back as far as the group decides and doesn't move. Then the puller runs to the rest of the group and the group traps the orcs. DO NOT get any closer to the spawn points when you trap the orcs. The each player WAITS until the puller makes a few hits on the orc. Don't worry, you only need to wait a few seconds. Then, most importaintly, every who wants to engage in combat switches through the different orc targets until they find the one the puller is attacking. Then press attack, not before! After everyone works together to kill it, the TANK attacks another orc and ever that was in the train. Everone stops to find out which one he is fighting. Then they attack that orc.

Please, please, please use this technique. The worst thing you could do is randomly choose a guy and start fighting. Except for when enemies gang up on your healer this rule shoul alwaysed be used. Stop, think before you act. Just because a guy is attacking you doesn't mean you have to attack it.

easier way to do this is to use the /assist command. Make it a hotkey and target your puller. Saves cycling through many mobs, breaking mezzes.

This is an excellent zone for leveling from 17-20 if you can actually manage to get into a group. However there are always entirely too many people in the zone, and the average maturity level is early teen. Lots of spam and whining.
Good and quick zone to level in, just don't expect any enlightening rp or conversations.
Also, a side note: this zone is very easy to get lost in. And watch out for the bandit camp directly across from HK entrance (you go up), they hurt.

On Rodcet Nife, usually there are no more than 15 people in the whole zone. Also, while there are some jerks here, there were also some very nice, mature individuals I grouped with.I came to HHP at lvl 16, and have gone to 20 in one week. Here are my observations:

1) If you can, get in an orc group. You need at least 4 people levels 15-20 to hold this camp. At least one tank. Establishe rules for named loot. Most groups just go with first to get to it loots on regular orcs, but there are named orcs who spawn with the last name Shraloc. They drop the Shiy Brass halberd (common) and Shiny brass idol (uncommon) or Shraloc pack (rare). Make sure the group agrees these items are rolled for. I got the first two items, and saw both several other times (they are lore, once you get one, don't roll for the next).

2) If you can't find four people, or have no tank, go after gnolls. A named gnoll spawns occasionally (grenix mucktail), when someone kills his placeholder in one of the other zones, who carrys the Polished granite tomahawk. If you can use 1HS or plan to start a class who can, you want this. I killed him at level 17 with one other person (ranger, also 17). We looted the PGT and I won the roll. My first twink item for my new warrior (also Lore) passed on two more since. Grenix dropped this thing each of the times I killed him. Don't know if this is luck.

3)If you are a Wisdom caster, you will want to camp Dyllin Starshine for a page to the Testament of Vanear (see library book quest on this site). Once you have the page, the rest of the quest is a breeze. (BTW, if you have been turning in orc and gnoll scalps to the guard captains as you go, then faction in qeynos shouldn't be a problem, unless you were dubious before. If so, do the Qeynos part of the quest first. It's easier to get to HHP from Qeynos than Freeport anyway.

4) If you make the error of going into the bandit (thug) camp, turn around and run up the little hill, then down into the keep. The guards will take care of the thugs, and you can zone if you don't have many hp left. Personally, I like to root the girl (from just outside the camp, if you hug the wall you can cast on her) (highest level one, the others are green to me now), lead the others to the guards, then go back and root/nuke her. she gives exp at 20, and drops decent cash, and sometimes items, gold ring, ringmail, weapons.

5) There are goblins in the Basement of the keep. I was told this is basically a level 20 + dungeon, so I plan to check it out next (ding 20). Will update this post.

6) if your group gets overrun, you can either zone, or run to the guards (or citizens of highpass). The citizens will fight the orcs and gnolls too, not just the guards. The volunteers at either gate are low level, but they will slow the orcs/gnolls down. The citizens are mostly levels above 20, but a few con blue. They will kill the orcs, but you'll take some hits too. Guards kill the orcs faster, since they are armed. Course you could arm the citizens as you go.

7) when you get to Highpass, GET BOUND THERE RIGHT AWAY. I can't tell you the number of people who ended up on Corpse runs from Freeport (through kith, unarmed), or Qeynos (long run) because they were not bound here. Highhold is treated as a city zone, which means non-casters can be bound there. I was binding anyone who asked free, just cause it's so far from most people's bind points.

this is it for my advice, I hope it helps someone.

Greetings! Good words of advice and helpful knowledge of the zone's points of interest. Thanks also for mentioning group ettiquette, I have only 17 circles under my belt but have already seen my fill of bad group manners! I will look for any comments you make on Highhold Keep (presuming you stick around to explore it).

I would only add that casters can bind just inside Kithicor Forest zone, this can be especially convenient if camping orcs.

In contrast to certain other peoples' posts, I have had no trouble finding space to group in this zone. Quite often my group has been the only one in the zone! So if anyone out there on Antonius Bayle wants to share the fun please come and share the excellent xp! (Well not too many otherwise I might lose out Smiley: smile.)

Highhold guards have their own faction, as do the citizens and merchants. You can raise all of these by getting in a gnoll or orc group right inside the zones (orc on kith side, gnoll on Karana side). Kill enough of these, and even evils can travel here. There's a low level volunter inside each gate who is on the guards faction, so con him to see if you're KOS. If he aggros you, he's only level 4-6, from what I read. Green to me. Don't kill him, zone and come back. If you kill him you'll have more faction to make up. If you are an eveil character, get bound by the zone, kill orcs/gnolls until your faction is high enough. I don't know if you start KOS, but Some Dark elves I saw go in were KOS. Fought with an iskar who wasn't but not sure if he'd been working faction long. Hope this helps.

Great loot in this zone..

Shiny Brass Idol: 5-10 pp
Shiny Brass Halberd: 50-75 pp
Shralok Pack: ??value??
Polished Granite Tomahawk: 50-100 pp
Cracked Darkwood Shield: 200-400 pp

Also ringmail armor drops quite frequently.

I dunno where you get those figures, but on the Tribunal it's more like this:

Idol: 5pp
Halberd: 10pp if you're lucky... I give em to newbies
Shralok Pack: (ridiculously rare) 250pp
Tomahawk (PGT): 50pp
Shield: 150-200pp

And true on the ringmail.

Hunting spots

Have hunted at orc wall for 3 levels. Usually the full group gets most of the kills. Orc Wall is good spot as you can easily zone in not many steps. It is safer than hunting gnolls as further to the zone and easy to get lost in the excitment of the chase. There are a couple of spots that are usually camped, the NPC that drops SBH and the NPC that drops Polished Granite tommy.

I would adivse hunting there until lvl 20 and then going into the keep. Highold Keep is a great spot for lvl 20 to 35. At lvl 20 to 25 hunting the main room right below the bank. Usually there is a list to get in the group there. Depends on what time you log in.

At lvl 25+ you go done the stairs and camp in the Warrior room. Typical group is lvl 25 to 31 or so. After the spawn is broken, you take the mobs that spawn in this room and can also take the one off the stairs.

At lvl 30, you move down the hall from the warrior room to a ramp that goes down to the bottom room. This is the raider room and spawns raiders, warriors, and shaman. Typical someone pulls from the room to the ramp and every opens up. There is also a mob that spawns in the hall between the warrior room and raider room. Raider room group usually takes it.

Typical loot is for one person to loot until he/she gets 3pp or a fine steel weapon or bronze armor. So loot is good and when you become encumbered just run up to bank or merchant and sell.

Also, if things turn bad everyone runs up stairs and the guards start jumping on the mobs. If it is real bad you can zone. Some people have said they run into the library and the NPC there cleans out the mob, but I have never tried that.

If you are coming here, you can get bound at the HHK zone, so if you die it is a very quick run back to where you are fighting.

The best thing about this zone is that the two main things to fight (orcs and gnolls) are concentrated on either end ... for low-lvl characters this is also a drawback as you have to pass through these zones (if you survived EK or KF to get here) to get in/through the zone, and both sets of mobs are easily aggroed.

Another drawback is that it is difficult to get INTO a group here, but once you do, it is easy to sit back and farm in the experience. I went from just-dinged-15 to almost 18 here over a weekend with a decent, constantly-changing group. Had to wait about 30 minutes to get into the orc side camp, but kept with it because the exp was good. The loot was nice too. Also, it was *relatively* safe because both mobs are right next to zones, so I only died maybe 3 or 4 times when we just got overwhelmed by too many pops.

Only saw the named orc (Shralok) two or three times. He did not drop the pack the first two times we killed him. The next time I saw him I was running back from a food/bandage run when he jumped me solo, I had him down to a hair of life left when GRRRR one of the guards came along and offed him! (Same thing happened to me with Mucktail who also jumped me by surprise when I was wandering alone, looking for the EK exit). While it's nice that the guards "help" you, I think there should be a point (like if you've already done 90% of the damage) that the corpse stays around if the guard finishes it off. Otherwise you've lost most of your own life and/or mana for naught, and don't even get exp!

Nice zone to hang out and practice skills in because you can buy a lot of what you need and there is an oven, forget etc to practice while you wait for a group slot to open.

Ok, I have been hunting here since 15. I am level 19 now and would really like to know, HOW THE **** DO YOU GET FACTION WITH THE MERCHENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????????
The entire time i have been here I have been killing orcs and gnolls. Everyone in this freekin zone love me except the **** merchents. It is really annoying to beg everyone for food and water every single time I run out. someone please tell me.

My characters are all amiable to the Coalition of Trade and Coalition of Trade Illegal factions, but these merchants are "indifferent" to all my characters.

You have to turn in ORC SCALPS to Captain Ashlan (something like that) and ur faction will improve. Hope this helps.

Also gnoll scalps to captain Orben. Both can be found up side paths just inside their respective gate. Ashlan is right on the orc scalps. they also give cash with faction. about 3-6 gp.

I just got to Highhold Pass, I am level 18. From what I have seen so far, there is one area where everyone fights, so you have to find a group and try to keep it together. great exp and money. but i spend a lot of time lfg. is karana a good place? I have seen many late teens/early twentys there.

I am a level 17 Shadowknight and I've heard differing oppinions on where to go for exp at this level. I'm in Overthere and am having to fight the odd blue con while running madly from everything else. It seems for every 5 minutes I fight to kill something, I spend 10 running from aggressive high level mobs while trying to heal up. Groups of the high teen/low twenties level are almost non existent in this zone as almost everyone there is mid 30's or so.
I have never been to Highpass though, and have heard that is also a good spot for experience. If anyone has been to both places, or just has an oppinion please feel free to share it with me. I can also be reached at Raceface21@mindspring.com if you're into e-mail. Or just send me a /tell in the game.

That captain is going to have an "accident" one day, I swear by Tunare.....

I went down to highpass all the way from Halas with 4 friends (3 were guildmates) tonight, and
the trip took about an hour and a half because big groups = pain to travel. Well anyways, we went here to find that this place is better for people who arent very social and just group to kill. We found that it is impossible to try to camp the gnolls or orcs without having to disband from our original group, so we left, but I think this place is cool for people who maybe are not roleplaying and just want to level up a character as fast as possible.

These orcs/gnolls drop good loot, unlike those stinking caimans, and Oh yeah, no Sand Giants and Spectres. This is an Awesome place to get loot/exp. At level 14, I'd start with the gnolls. I had to heal the heck out of any 15 or 16 lvl people in my orc groups, so 14 would be tough. plus lots of 19 and 20 lvl in the orc groups, so they may not let you in (unbalance the group).

Now should we go the long way around to the gnoll side or do the rocs give HH guard faction there in sufficient quantities that I'll be able to kill gnols between 16-18 to get into Freeport?

This Item is very good , but it can be up to six hours if you have just missed the mob. The Mucktail that drops it was blue to me at 19 but hits harder than he cons , I took him in a group all of us were about 18 - 19 . The area is also in the middle of a no named gnoll spawning area gnolls that range from Champions 18 and Soothsayers and flamepaws caster gnolls that are very annoying they're about level 20. The mob is level 21 or so and there are 2 different mobs 1 drops pgt and other drops CDS. Can't solo as a necro under 20 and tanks should be around 23rd level or so to solo a group takes him down quite easily. at 19 me and a 19 cleric took it down.

Ahmen! 4 hours from 1 bub into 13 to 1.5 bub into 14. 25pp and only died once (so far). Awsome zone, only problem is getting into one of the groups. of the 4 hours I have been here, 2.5 were productive, 1.5 looking to get in a group.

You're bragging about ninja looting. What a jerk. I had to kick a guy like you out of one of my orc groups. He's on a permanant ban from my groups from now on. BTW, the social group in Highhold is rather small, so it's better to play fair. the other people need loot too (unless you're lucky, and get some twinks powerlevelling).

There is a Ranger's Guild in Kithicor Forest, the next zone east of Highpass. Just track to Morin Shadowbane, the guild leader.

In case you don't know, the forest is filled with rediculous swarms of highlevel undead at night so be sure to check the time of day and your tracking screen before entering the forest.

One more thing, don't camp on the Kithicor side of the zone. I logged on the other day thinking I was safe (because I was parked in the tunnel right next to the zone) only to find a highlevel undead creature bashing my head in immediately, stunning me with no chance to run the five feet to the zone and killing me. Instant death upon logging. Major bogus game flaw. NEVER again will I camp in Kithicor.
