Hidden in the bowels of Broken Skull Rock lies the Crypt of Nadox. The tomb of the ancient Troll shaman Nadox is hidden within these caverns bearing his name. Filled with various shrines and temples to honor the god of the Broken Skull Clan, the crypt is a dangerous place to any who venture there. Only the most powerful of the clan are allowed into the crypt, and they guard the area with fierce devotion.

Our group consists of :-

37 Warr
37 Druid
39 Shaman
39 Cleric
40 Warrior

We stumbled on the lava entrance into Nadox while exploring and mapping Gulf of Gunthak. I conned the elements that were hanging on the rocks there and as 2 came up yellow and they looked like they would come singly we decided to try them.

They do indeed come singly - they all con yellow or red to a 40 warrior but could all be malais'd and slowed by a 38 (then later 39) shaman - so I am assuming a level range of 41 - 44. They dont hit particularly hard nor fast and go down quite easily. Each one drops up to 8pp. We have had no other drops after about 3 hours hunting them. They are on a 20 minute respawn it seems.

A poster below makes reference to there being a troll spawn on the rocks also. That is not quite true - there is a pathing problem over the rocks that means anything trained to zone from deeper in, that gets past the rocks, will get 'caught' on the rocks trying to path back and stay there indefinitely. We have seen both trolls and an element caught like this on the rocks.

The interesting surprise at the zone is the lava etched doombringer that rarely spawns from the corpse of any other element. We were lucky enough to have KEI on the casters the one time he appeared - and so with all three healing the main tank - we were able to melee / thornshield / pet him to death. (He was too high for the casters to effect with spells directly)

After fighting here for a while we decided to explore and succorred to see where it'd take us. As reported below it takes you to the Torgiren Mines zoneline. There is some fighting available here - the crypt bruisers that line the lava bridge will also pull singly. We have established that they are all 43. They hit harder than elements but slow well and are easy after that. They drop a couple of pp and a lot of the LoY fine steel equivalent weapons.

At these levels the elements were excellent xp - roughly half a blue each per kill, the bruisers not so rewarding at about a fifth of a blue each - but they are more plentiful.

When trying to navigtate the lava from the zone in in tunnels of Gulf if you hug the right hand wall you can sorta slide up them for part of the trip, helps to minimize the damage a little bit.

Edited to correct spelling.....

This guy was quite a shock to find. Was camping Inny Statue (shell) room and had this mob spawn from another after we killed it. Was red to a lvl 55 in the group. Took a long time to take down and appeared to be a healer type mob. (surprise huh? hehe)
Dropped an excellent pair of int caster shoes and a great wis caster range item. I'll get the stats from my guildmates and post them here in a reply.
2nd entrance

there is a backdoor to this zone. simply go in the front door of the large castle in Gunthak, where the luggalds spawn, and proceed directly in throne room til you see a small corridor. takes you into secret passage inside crypt. ***** THE LAVA !!!heh

I only ran across one named attempting to get an amulet for my rangers spell. He conned even to me at 55 and did not summon.

I've fought 5 different named mobs and numerous other mobs that conned even or higher level to a level 55 player here in Nardox. And neither I nor anyone that I've grouped with has ever been summoned once by any of the mobs in here. So all of you cloth wearing casters don't have to worry about being summoned by anything in here at least.

Happy hunting

I did some exploring and helped someone with CR...found that succor takes you right to the Mines just go left or right into one of the tunnels. Getting to Hate's Fury requires invis and something like Seasons....lots of fire resist since you need to swim through lava. It is one dangerous run and could end up with a nasty CR.

Hunted there for a few hours tonight
# Feb 26 2003 at 1:01 AM Rating: Decent
I hunted the zone for a few hours tonight - I would call it about as hard a zone as Kael Drakkel in the area where my group was, down one of the tunnels by the bridge.

The mobs hit for 200+ consistently, and were uniformly dark blue, white and yellow to me, a 54 SK. After my group broke up I explored the castle some. The main difference between the castle and the other areas I saw were a bunch of priest type mobs - Broken Skull prophet, cenobite, seeker, initiate etc. There were ZERO casters in other parts of the zone. Nothing, or almost nothing, sees invis here.

The exp seemed pretty fast - about 8% in 54 in about 2 hours worth of hunting / exploring.

I should note that I saw ZERO named mobs in the time I spent killing stuff down there. There aren't many of them. The one significant drop I got - some DRU MNK BST sleeves - came from one of the tall aliens.

Some quick facts

Entry to this zone is from the second left fork in the cave system in the gulf of Guthnak(sp). You will than see an opening on the right all run through this past a few trolls and towards lava.

When you enter the zone you will be on some rocks that are raised above a lava river. After about 50 yards these rocks end. Sprirt of Eagle and Levitate were both stripped upon entry. On the rocks you are standing on they are a few fire elemental looking spawns and a broken skull troll spawn. Most of last night these spawns were clear for the entire night.
To get to fighting area in zone you are going to have to swim through the lava. Just jump in turn make the right hand turn and than hug the right wall. You will eventually climb up the side and be safe.
Once out you are in a cavern with a bunch of broken skull spawns. Most of these conned blue to a 52 Beastlord, but were a hard fight for that same 52 Beastlord and a 56 Druid. From here there is a bridge that leads across the lava pit, two tunnels and an entrance to a big room. haven't explored any of those expect the north tunnel. The north tunnel consists of a few static troll and boar spawns some of which conned yellow to the 52 Beastlord. Took this tunnel down to a crossroads and turned left into a decently sized cavern that had 3 static boar spawns on the west end. Pulled to here foo a few mins before ported back to the nexus. biggest problem was pathing here, which caused adds from the tunnel to ocme in. luckily had an enchanter in group by this time.

later in the night decided to go back. This time with a 59 Shadow Knight a 58 Druid and the 52 Beastlord. once we zoned in the Druid succored us and we ended up infront of the crypt building. Easy goings for that agroup with a bunch of dark blue mobs to the 52 beastlord. Decent weapon drops sells at same price of fine steel, and the beastlord got one blue bubble of exp and half a blue of AA over the course of 45 mins that it took to clear outside and the entry level of the crypt. Again pathing was a problem once inside the main level of the crypt as mobs on pull would not come straight at you. Luckily there seemed to be little adds from these miss pulls, don't know if we got lucky or what.

Will be going back again tonight,

Tanik

Ok, what is all this about swimming in lava?! Last I recall that was entirely lethal to this necro...I guess thats what my Harmshield is for :/

What FireResist is enough to survive laval damage?

A friend took me to the Crypt on foot last night; I guess that's the 2nd entrance mentioned. It was an easy run through the castle invis, and just a simple passage off the throne room.

Re. swimming thru lava...I am reminded of the tunnel in Shadeweavers Thicket behind Jynhadar a named Fire Elemental that is filled with lava and goes....to a locked door, key required.

I may be remembering wrong, cause I've only crossed the lava once, but I could swear we used levitate and didn't get burned. Am I wrong?

With Flameshield of Ro and other resists I get my fire resist to about 150. Only take 10 damage a tick or so.....so it's not too bad. Just hug the right wall. You'll be fine....
