I'm lousy at directions but here it goes. Stand on the bridge, the one connecting Shar Vahl with Shadeweavers, with you back towards Shadeweavers. Head towards the merchant Chialle, go straight past her. In a few feet there will be a door. Go through do to see Bindarah.

I have been playing this game for about 1 1/2 months now and I left for a couple weeks only to find my server unit with another server. I am on level 8 and I have no idea who I'm suppose to see to complete citizenship. I have my Tax papers so it's not Bindarah. Last thing I remember I need some acrylic and bandage and suppose to see some dude in a tavern but he is no longer there. I would like to level and start up Quests' but can't cause of the citizenship issue. Anyone can help it is appreciated..

Okay I'm doing the newbiew beastie quest for the claws, I've made the handwraps and now the guildmaster has told me to combine in my sewing kit the handwraps + 2 young hopper claws + forged fasteners..my question is the forged fasteners? Are they something you have to make with Blacksmithing? I've tried to go to a forge and search for the recipee but come up with nothing. Is it something you buy? and if so where do you get it? Or does it drop off a creature however unlikely? Some help would be greatly appreciated

Cut and Pasted from EQ Traders:

" Forged fasteners are obtained by asking Kagazz outside of the Armory "What forged fasteners". He will give you a 4-slot bag, and ask you to fill it with Scorpion Legs (his wife makes jewelry out of them). (Remember to have a container slot free before getting the bag, and remember to hit "combine" on the bag after you fill it.) In return for the filled bag, he gives you the Forged Fasteners. Scorpion Legs are a no drop item off the scorpions in the Pit. "

Playing on UK server in Shar Val pit.

Trying to get scorpion blood and Xara bile. I get pebbles covered in xsara bile is there a way to get the bile off the pebbles?

I was playing last night for 3 hours and not once did any scorpion blood drop also even scorpions who conned dark blue were killing me around 50% of the time. Any tips as to what a level 3 shaman should get in terms of armor or weapons to defeat more easily those scorpions I think for a newbie quest this has to be the toughest. Are they trying to discourage Val Shir shamen? lol

Maybe I should level up a bit first but it says the quest is for lvl 1-3. I'm at lvl 3 at the moment...
Thanks for any/all help

No, you need to get vials of xakra bile. They're a semi-rare drop off the Xakra larva. (Not to be confused with xakra blood, which drops off of glowing xakra larva.)

Turn your whiptail glands in to <A HREF="http://eqbeastiary.allakhazam.com/search.shtml?id=9903">Spiritist Ragnar</A>, and he gives padded armor. (Get enough of the stuff, and you can buy better.)

What has been done to all the luclin zones? There is now this dense fog, indoors and out, that prevents even my kitty from seeing 10 feet in front of him. Sometimes an Ultravision item, like a summoned coldstone or the like, will help, but not always-although I may not be triggering it correctly.... Is it my video card? I do have a crappy card, a laptop-based ATI Mobility M6 with only 16 megs of video memory. The system is decent, PIII 1200 with half a gig of memory. I was running on a desktop with 256, a PIII 733 and a 64 meg GeForce256 card, and the video was the same, foggy and hard to see. I have tried jacking up gamma, but it just increased the glare. Anybody know what this is, or is it just a perminant state of fog that was added for effect? Any help would be appreciated.

Flash of Light is one of the rewards for the Whisperlings quest. ( http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=1497 )

In fact, you get Burst of Flame, Resist Cold, and Strengthen out of it too. (Whish I'd known that before plunking down hard earned coin for 'em. heh.)

Sadly, Flash of Light is not for sale anywhere in Shar Vahl. You'll need to do one of two things to get it: a) Make the trip to Shadowhaven (probably not a good idea unless you can get an invis, there's some rather nasty bandits blocking the way), or b) Find someone to bring a Flash of Light up to you. You might get lucky and find a nice person who'll give you one or sell it at cost. More likely you'll have to pay a few plat for it. Kinda like getting fire beetle eyes in Gfay. Or try doing the Whisperlings quest as detailed at http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=1497 It's always possible they've fixed it so you get the Flash of Light scroll like you're supposed to.

Go into the arena pit, through the arches there, hang a left down the stairs (right down stairs leads to warrior guildmaster), go around the curve, through the door, around the other curves, down some more stairs, and I think you hang a left in the room with all the scribes. He's behind one of those two doors, anyway.

OK all, help me out please. As you all know, a lvl 5 kitty bard can not get to another city on his or her own, so my question is, where in the heck do I find a percusion instrument in the city or shar vahl. I visited every npc I could find, quite extensively...Even used the eq atlas quide to see which loc's were listed as selling instruments. NO PERCUSION INSTRUMENTS ON THEM. Since I am supose to be a bard, and supose to start using my bard skills at lvl 5, I need one. If not, I have to waite till I am like lvl 13 to get a wind instrument or a brass insturment, but even then, it appearse that I need one of each to "cast" or sing my songs. It looks to me like the songs are instrument type sensitive...

You make your own percussion instrument. If you've done the citizenship quest and then given the acrylia slate to the appropriate person in your guild, he should have given you a quest to make a bowl using the Pottery skill. Do that quest and you'll end up with a drum.

Most bard songs don't REQUIRE the instrument, but to work the skill you will need to use an instrument with the proper type of song. Instruments only Increase the effect of a song of that type as opposed to singing it (having wrong instrument or a weapon equipped)

I discovered what might possible be a bug. I'm on Tallon Zek and was collecting no drop items. I had rockhopper blood and a bloodling mandible, both which are no drop. I put them in the bank, but couldn't really do anything with them, so I went to an NPC not to far from the bank in Shar Vahl (can't remember her name). She has a wheel for combining items next to her. I tried to combine the items (for s & g) and discovered that they were no longer in my inventory, even though it said those items couldn't be combined. I don't know if they are still in the wheel, I didn't look. I will try to get the /loc for the NPC and her name, I neglected to write it down.

If you've gotten jaded in EQ, go to Luclin and start a cat. It's like leveling for the first time. The newbie zone is well thought out. You can go from 1-2 without even fighting just by doing quests. And the low level quests are fun. Each class has the ability to get decent (not great) no drop gear by doing quests, so if you don't want to twink, you don't feel like you have to. There are plenty of mobs to kill solo as well as in groups and lots of opportunities to try out tactics for your new class.

The guards are available, but not annoyingly close. The mobs in the pit get steadily tougher as you go further away from the bridges. And the quests that you do give excellent faction results so that you are quickly getting good prices for your loot.

I had gotten quite... well, if not bored, then at least not excited about EQ once I finished up the Lake of Ill Manners/the Giant fort in FM, and was faced with interminable boredom in OT.

Then Luclin came out, and I wanted a pet tiger so bad, I upgraded my computer, bought the SOL module, and started my first Vah Shir.

I jumped into it with a new enthusiasm, and with all the quests, the new scenery, etc, I quickly became captivated all over again. As mentioned above, just do the quests, and you will have great equipment for the level, have fun, meet lots of great people. Try not twinking until you get to a certain level. You don't really need it for awhile anyway. After that, it DOES help. Luclin mobs are usually undercons and it can be hard getting groups at times.

I even became serious about tradeskills. I can't imagine a place more geared towards working on them as Shar Vahl. Try them. I even got sucked into smithing and tailoring!

I probably would have dropped EQ if I hadn't gotten the fresh start. Now I even have renewed interest in my ranger and he's pretty much permanently moved up to Luclin and is even levelling again and I'm having fun.

Try it, you will like it.

These tips are primarily for non-twink kitties who cannot buy bags, armor, etc. (although the info. regarding quest items is useful for everyone).

First thing to do is the citizenship quest. It is necessary if you want to do additional class or skill related quests because you will recieve your acrylia slate and initiate claok in the process. You will also learn more about finding your way around the city -- so enjoy hunting for people rather than expecting to be led by the paw around town. When you get your cloak, put it in the bank for safekeeping... too many kitties die and let their cloaks decay, and it is difficult to obtain a new one without starting over.

Next, take your acrylia slate and get some bags for loot. This is important because many of the newbie quest items do not stack, so you need lots of inventory slots. The slate serves as proof of citizenship to obtain the various skill-related quests in the city, and the merchants who give out these quests also provide free containers. Here are the three that I use:

Merchant Rytan (fletcher near south gate): 6 small slots
Broker Fahaar (merchant near palace): 4 medium slots
Merchant Ahlam (second floor of brewery near bank): 10 tiny slots -- many of the quest items are tiny, so this is useful

Next, head to the pit and start killing things. Depending on your class, you will want to focus on different creatures for quest items -- look up the relevant quest information to see what you will need so you don't end up collecting alot of useless items (much of it is no drop, so it is not used to make money either).

Good wya to make money and get some decent padded armor is to kill the whiptail scorpions and collect their poisons sacs. Turn them in to Spiritist Ragnar (in alchemy shop next to bank) for some coin and armor. if he gives you a duplicate piece, sell it back for a couple of gp. Can also give 4 rhino beetle eyes to Khala Dun Bohk (guard on south bridge) for some tattered hopperhide armor, but these are a rarer drop than the poison glands (beware, the poison glands are no rent also, so turn them in as you get them).

There are many other quests that will keep you busy collecting items in the pit surrounding the city, and, of course, you can never find the items when you are hunting for them, even though they drop regularly when you don't need them, so plan ahead and happy hunting!

NO RENT means it disappears once you log. If you have a NO RENT bag, such as those summoned by shaman or mages, all items in the bag, whether they are NO RENT or not, disappear when you log, too. There has been a change, whereby you have a little time after logging (or going linkdead,) to come back in and still find your NO RENT items, but smart players treat all NO RENT items as gone the moment you log.

I'm pretty sure that the Kerrans and the Vah Shir are on seperate factions, so the Vah Shir wouldn't care. The Kerrans seem to hate Erudites, but the VS apparently are indifferent to them, which bears this theory out. However, I have yet to test this theory. ;-)

Give 4 worm meat to the cook farthest from the door (first door on the left inside the palace). Reward is a exp, and a couple silver, and occasionally a wooden practice weapon or tattered hopperhide.

Not quite worth buying worm meat from the merchants for this, unless you're desperate for hopperhide.

Increase your pottery at least 20; 30+ is better. The bile is altogether too rare! Collect poison glands while you're harvesting the xakra bile. Everyone needs several uncommonly dropped vials of bile to complete their recruit quests, so there is competition for the worms. Turn the poison glands in to Spiritist Ragnor to fund your pottery practice for when you finally have enough bile.

Nay, this quest does not skip up to level 30, but you might get there before you finish it. ;)

lol, I guess it's not that bad, but gathering the femurs and rockhopper hides has been a grueling affair for me. I still cannot get a fourth femur to drop...

Anyway, to answer your question, YES!! Pottery is needed to make the drum bowl. Do not try to make it until to practice pottery for a while! You will waste your femurs and bile. I had no trouble creating the clay necessary, the failure comes when the clay goes on the wheel.

The entire quest takes place in Shar Vahl. The Grimling Skeletons, Xakra Worms, and Young Rockhoppers can all be found in the pit. Just don't bother counting how many of them you have to kill to get the necessary drops. Especially if there is competetion...

This quest, like many others can be Multi-Quested, that is, multiple persons can complete different parts.

What you need to do is have a friend create a New char that they don't intend to keep.

The "Friend" then completes all the portions of the Citizenship quest up to the tax letter.

You (The person who lost the newbie items) Should go to Mignah and obtain a new Acrylia Slate. I destroyed my citizenship one prior to this but not sure if it is necesary.

The "Friend" should turn in the tax letter by itself.

He will get the response "This item means nothing to me by itself" OR he will get the King letter. (If someone has turned in a slate only prior to you, the tax letter will complete the requirement.)

If he gets the King letter He will need to re-create the Char and get ANOTHER Tax letter.

Once your partner gets the response "This item means nothing to me by itself," then you should turn in the slate.

You will get credit for the quest and recieve the Letter to the King.

Complete the Citizenship quest from there as normal.

My partner and I were in a group together when Turning in the Tax letter and Slate, but I dont think this is neccesary.

Hope this helps somebody out there:)

I tried the strategy of creating a new char and MQ'ing for my handwrap. I STILL didn't get my Intiate's Cloak. I got experience for every part of the Citizen's quest until I got back to Animist Poren at the end. I handed him the acrylia slate and the stamped King's Letter. I received the Stitching pack, but not the intiaiate cloak. what the heck?!

Iv'e been doint the newbie quests for my Bard. After completing the last quest for Gherkin, he gives me the cloak, shield, and drum then tells me if I want more training I need to present my shield to Hymnist Gawfed. When I do this, Gawfed returns the shiel and a receipt, telling me he's not traing for a few days because he's planning a celebration for his wife. He tehn asks me to give the receipt to "the merchant" (no name given) does anyone know who this merchant is? I've tried giving the the receipt to several NPCs with merchan tin there title, to Gherkin, and to the woman in the Inn selling weddidng cake with no luck.

Ask Gawfed 'Who is the merchant?' He will get all apologetic and tell you his name. If I remember right, the merchant is near the South Gate.. Better luck!

Broker Quests Broken?

You get a hopperhide sack from Broker in passage in front of Palace and fill with hopper hides (young ones) then you bring back for a stretched hide and a leather rope. You sell the hide and keep the rope after soing this quest 4 times you give him the four ropes and he gives you a skinning knife that you can only use to make a rough strap belt from MQ hopper hides. Then you give the knife and hide back and he gives you a Shar Val needle kit and tells you to make 2 more kinds of belts a Black Chitin Belt and a Bone braded belt. but the recipe for them is :Black Chitin Belt = Xakara silk, Scoprion Carapace, Rough belt strap and Needle kit...has anyone been able to find a Scorpion Carapace (not the nodrop shell) and xakara silk???
RE: Broker Quests Broken?
# Jan 07 2002 at 5:23 PM Rating: Decent
The Scorpion Carapace will drop off of the scorpions in the Pit. The Xakra Silk will drop from the worms in the pit, but I've found it drops even more frequently from the Lesser Shades in Shadow Weaver's Thicket.

Shaman Spells

First let me say thanks to Tollen for the infor on the shaman noob quest. I am curious if anyone has found the location of the poison and disease spells for the kitty shaman. I know in the old world the spells are located in a different zone, but so far I have had no luck in locating them either in Shar Vahl or in Shadeweaver's Thicket. Flash of Light seems to be missing as well. Thanks in advance for any help.
Just a Rant.......

I have a few gripes here and had to get them off my chest. 1.) They run you around a LAG filled zone to become a citizen of a place you live. 2.) In the zones where you can fight there is NOTHING to loot and sell to get money to buy the 3.) Outrageously priced NO RENT food. 12+pp for a stack of food that will go away when you camp? Uh does this seem like a bit of a rip off to anyone but me? 4.) I choose a white tiger charrie and get a half white half normal color(bengal tiger color). How can you buy food when you have no money, and no possible way to get any because there isn't anything on the corpses to loot. I'm sorry so far except for the graphics and new charrie........luclin sucks.

1) The citizenship quest doesn't take long if you have a map, (NOT the map in the Luclin manual, it's horrible!) and you get almost a whole LEVEL of experience to complete it. I hated that citizenship quest until I noticed my XP bar!

2) Sell bone chips and silks for more than 1 silver apiece to the merchants; sell extra Xakra bile to desperate folks, name your price; kill whiptail scorpions for their common poison glands. Trade each poison gland to Spiritist Ragnor in the alchemy shop for cloth or padded armor, each of which is worth 1-4 gold and experience.

3) milk costs 6 copper, and the dried wolf ears? cost 1 silver apiece. (Chaille sells them - they look like barbecued drumsticks) Also you can eat the free payala fruit as snacks (2 snacks = 1 meal?), and kill needle clawed hoppers for chunks of meat. I had more than a stack of meat to eat before I had the four needle claws for a separate quest.

4) type /facepick and change your character if you don't like the way it looks now.

I wonder if these answers were available all along, or if Verant changed Shar Vahl to accomodate all those annoyances. I thought Shar Vahl and Shadweavers Thicket rocked!

Can't say much about food being NO RENT as I haven't noticed that, but I have to agree that the amount of NO DROP (and hence, unsellable,) loot is ridiculous. Even worse, very little of what you CAN sell stacks, and even that seems to sell for only a few copper. About the only thing I was able to do to get reliable cash was look for grimling skells that were carrying weapons.

I like the fact that questing seems FAR better in Luclin than any previous EQ release, but for a non-twink newbie to get money for armor and weapons is excruciating.

There's something wrong when below level 5 you're forced to attack a guard so you can get killed and have a new quarter-stack of newbie food.

The crater is there for the newbie quests. It's not the only area around the city for lvl 1 to 4. Go outside to Shadeweavers and you shouldnt have any trouble getting loot to sell off to vendors. Plus, a lot of the quests you can do as a starting character gives cash and armour. Another thing.. I found lots of vendors selling food at reasonable prices.

The merchant right before you get to the South Gate bridge, Chialle, I believe she is called, has some kind of almonds (snack) for cheap, and milk for 6 or 7 coppers. She also has other normal, non NO RENT food at very reasonable prices for you to pick up after you ding level 5.

Until then, just suicide to replenish food and drink. The loot here really IS scarce enough that you would not want to waste any coin you get on food and drink if you can avoid it.

She has cheap milk (and we all know how cats feel about milk) and also cheap food - I don't remember exactly what I bought for food, but it was roughly the same price as a loaf of bread or something like that on Norrath. Stay out of the gourmet restaurants or you'll get ripped off badly! Also, don't buy "rations" - they're quite expensive. Plus, there really is OK loot here - mainly shadeling silk. Find a tailor who wants to buy them and you can get 2gp apiece, that's 4pp per full stack. Not too shabby for loot from a newbie zone IMO. You can also trade the silks (to a player, not an NPC) for tattered/patchwork armor. I traded nine silks and nine threads (made from silks - I'm working on my tailoring too) and got almost a full suit of patchwork at level 3. I went from being barely able to take even mobs (down to 20% health) to taking them out with no problem at all (down to 80% health) just by having that armor. I really think the Shar Vahl - Thicket area is one of the best newbie zones (and I've played every single newbie zone in the game now).

...as an addendum to the above - there's absolutely no need to buy food or drink in or near Shar Vahl at all - you can simply go out and gather it off the ground. Do the "Chialle's Friendship Ring" quest and you'll have experience doing this exact thing, plus a cool-looking ring that's worth 5 HP, which is OK for a level 1 character. Just gather "payala fruit" from the ground in the Shadeweaver's Thicket newbie area. In your inventory it looks like a bunch of grapes, but on the ground it looks like a little bluish-purple mushroom. They are "a snack", and they stack. Turn in four to the appropriate NPC in Shadeweaver's (in the building that looks like the bank and is near it) and she'll give you a bottle of "payala nectar", which is a drink. Free for the taking, and it's easy to gather a full stack of payala fruit in five minutes or so.

Druids are fine in Shar Vahl. However, wolf form is probably a bad idea. A nice doggy in the kitty city? The Karrens get really pissed off at wolf form, so I con only guess it would be bad.

Does anyone know about the second phase of the shaman quest? I completed my citizenship, and now have the cloak, but my guildmaster will not answer my hails. I gave him my acrilia slate and he said this alone means nothing. What else do I have to give him? THanks for the help.

The next step isn't with your guildmaster, but with the person next to them. When facing you GM the cat on the right is who you want. Give them your slate and the new quest should start.

Lower there is a newbie quest, but that is only half of it, and only for a certain class for the femur part.

Go check the Initiate's Cloak of Shar Vahl quest for more information--http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=1452. And no matter what your class, start at your trainer and then follow the steps, it will end with you getting citizenship and an AC4 cloak, AND a follow up quest that is distinct to your class. You can find most of the items in the pit and most are no drop. The pit is divided up with a newbie side and a more advanced newbie side. The south bridge that goes to Shadeweaver's Thicket is the place to go first and there are guards there to run to in the pit, they are on the wall, just look for them. Start with the beetles first, then move up to needle rockhoppers, skeletons, then worms. The more advanced area of the pit is under the north bridge that goes to Hollowshade Moor. Start with beetles on this side, these are higher level, then go for scorpions, there are three kinds, and young rockhoppers. Also there are a few grimlings running around too, I was still getting XP on them at level 6. After about level 5 or so you will want to go to Shadeweaver's Thicket and hunt. In the Thicket there are merchants to sell to and a bank so no need to constantly zone over and over because your slots are all full. This area should last you until 10 or so.

More quest information for Shar Vahl here--http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/qsearch.html?zone=155

No one is KOS yet, but depends on if you ruin your faction before you get there by killing something along the way. They have no religion nor time on the moon.

give your newbie note to your guild master. he/ she will send you to registrar bindara. her loc is -436,+151. she will send you on two more erands, one is mignah he is located in the tavern by the south gate, the other is the taxman; he is located in the bank. After your return to bindara, give her both the items. she will send you to the king with a note, he will give you a note to give back to bindara. after that you will need to get four femers from the skeletons in the newbie area, you will give these to hebijeb to finish. by the time you finish with all of this you should be at least 3rd lvl! you will need to kill lots of skeletons to get the femers, I killed 15 before i recieved my first femer.

Sounds Like a good newbie zone
# Dec 05 2001 at 11:30 AM Rating: Default
I have not received my SOL in the mail yet, but looking at Muse's map in the Atlas it looks like a good place for newbies. You can hunt outside the city walls yet inside the crater. Which means that you can train and sell without zoning. Like Kelethin, Freeport or Qeynos in this respect. I think I am going to like it, there.
RE: Sounds Like a good newbie zone
# Jan 15 2002 at 6:41 AM Rating: Good
Actually, Shadeweaver's Thicket is a MUCH better newbie zone than this; there are actually Guards that are close enough to help there, plus all the trainers, and a Bank, and some merchants. Plus, the visibility is much better, even allowing for Infravision. The only real advantage you have hunting here at level 1-3 or so is that you don't need to get yourself bound next to the Shadeweaver zone for when you die.

My advice would be to hunt the Thicket, starting with Needle Clawed Hoppers, the Beetle Hatchlings and such til you are about level 4, then go back to the pit to gather the stuff for the newbie quests.

It is indeed the home of the Vah Shir -- formerly of Odus. The city rests in a crater formed by their arrival on the dark side of Luclin long ago. All the things you expect from a city are here, including a newbie area to hunt. There's an access path to Hollowshade Moor in the north and another path to Shadeweaver's Thicket in the south. Enjoy. :)
