Ancient city built in the twilight regions of Luclin.

Katta Castellum is the city built by the Loyalists to Tsaph Katta following his assassination attempt and the relocation of his followers within the Combine Empire to the moon of Luclin. The city is built in a strong defensive position, to hold off enemies both known and unknown.

The Katta Castellum people are surrounded by enemies. The Tenebrous Mountains holds the vampires of the Coterie, which have been infiltrating and terrorizing the city for some time. Also, the Inquisition is always hunting down the members of the city, although thankfully they are further away.

The enemies of Katta have turned the place into something of a dangerous place. Coterie assassins roam the streets in the dark places, jumping on the unwary. The undead have also been known to rise from the ground in the graveyards, powered by the enemies of this place.

Levitate spells don't work in this zone.

I've searched and searched for the banner that you are supposed to click to get to the upper floors in the building where the spell vendors are (SW corner of zone). I can't find this banner. I've probably clicked every square inch of every wall in that building, and nothing. I've been told it's the back wall, opposite of the entrance. Does anyone have more specific directions? I've about given up.

The banner is located at -923, -98, +3.75 between two magus protectorates. Each floor has a banner to reach the next floor.

I found an npc called Tvan Gurrish behind the chapel in the graveyard area, he tends to get killed by glyphed covered corpses. Anyways, I hailed him and had the following conversation:

You say, 'Hail Tvan Gurrish'

Tvan Gurrish says 'Bah, this is insane. We can't go through with this. Maybe you'd like to pick up some coin, eh? Are you interested?

You say, 'I am interested'

Tvan Gurrish says 'We were supposed to go up to the graveyard and do a bit of digging, if you know what I mean. There's a fellow that we met up with in a tavern in Shadowhaven that hired us to do this.

You say, 'What fellow?'

Tvan Gurrish says 'He was odd looking, but he seemed normal enough and he paid us half up front. He said that we'd get the rest when we brought the item back to him.

You say, 'What item?'

Tvan Gurrish says 'We're not sure. He said we'd know when we saw it. He said to find a grave with black flowers on it and dig it up. Also, we said that we'd need to say a few words before digging. Just in case it was trapped. Here's the scary part. He wrote the words down for us.

You say, 'What words?'

Tvan Gurrish says 'It looks like a bunch of gibberish to me. If you want them. I'll give them to you. The second that you take the scroll, this is your deal. We don't want no part of this mess. Do you want the Scroll?

You say, 'I want the scroll'

After that Tvan gave me an Ale Stained Note, and despawned.

The note says the Ale Stained Note says the following:

Speak these words once you get to the grave "Dal Mar Resh".

Go to the graveyard and you'll find a grave to the left of Guard Lennon with an item on top of it which is a Dried Floral Bouquet, once you're in front of the grave say the words "Dal Mar Resh".

A tortured abomination will spawn and start attacking you.

-

It drops an item called Sara's Porcelain Mask. I'm guessing that's the item needed for the quest, I've been going around taverns in Shadow Haven attempting to give all of the npc's the note, flower, and or mask. None of them seem to take it, though I'm under the impression that I have to give it to Slosean because of the Ale Stained Note and his mention of ale. He won't take it though, and I can't seem to be able to wake him up or anything.

Been a month since the post, but thought I'd help you out...and anyone else who reads this as well. When you enter Katta you will need to invis. Head in and take a right, this will take you around a rather long curving road/bridge type thing. At the end of this you enter a series of rooms which zig/zag, follow these until you reach a large open area with a large set of stairs to your left. Climb these stairs. At the top head left and go up the path until you reach a courtyard. The wall on your right has a gate, go through this and run past the building on your right and threw the next gate. If you continue straight ahead you will reach the graveyard. Hope this helps. The first time I went to this zone I was around 44 - 45 and got lost trying to find the graveyard, it was not fun. I had to use 3 cloudy potions.

Ping pong in the graveyard
# Feb 16 2004 at 11:23 AM Rating: Decent
Have been pulling the guards into the graveyard for a few nights now. Very necromancer-like.

If you plan on being here awhile, run a 1st level mule to the zone and log him/her just outside the graveyard. Hand all weapon/armor drops to the mule when you get overloaded, walk the mule to the nearest building and sell, sell, sell. I haven't even earned half of level 52 and I've made 1Kp so far. When I used one computer I used to trade like this all the time, dropping a bag or two of stuff on the ground, logging out and back in (with another char) and picking the stuff up. With two computers this is much easier, of course.

With my two necros I've been ping-pong kiting the guards up and down the path inside the graveyard. I've been going at a "relaxed" rate, only pulling in the nearest 4 (+1 wanderer) guards per spawn cycle - 12 minutes. I've been taking out each guard in about 1.5 minutes - from pull to death. The secrets to ping-pong kiting is to use the lower-level fear (that doesn't last as long) and to throw enough DoTs on the mob to keep aggro away from the pets. I've found that Cascading Darkness + BoD (cast by a single necro) is enough to keep taunt, plus I'll throw in an Asystole (with the second necro) and maybe even a lifetap or Ignite Bones if enough mana (which I'll often have).

Kudos to those who can kill faster than this, taking out all 7 guards during the spawn cycle.

RE: Ping pong in the graveyard
# Feb 19 2004 at 11:55 AM Rating: Decent
Last night I was able to take out all 7 guards for several rounds. Basically as soon as one died you need to go out there and pull another one...had to make two adjustments to what I was dooing.

First, I ran low on mana the first round. Looked at the spells I was using...started casting dooming to pull, only casting cascading when I was near full mana. Also, only cast BoD every other fight - EBolt is cheaper and does more damage (makes up for the fact that I wasn't casting cascading as much)

Second, I was running out of time by pulling every mob with dooming/cascading. So, I pulled the wanderer (as soon as he popped) and the two furthest guards with lifetap (black ceramic band) and ran them back to the graveyard. Having run speed 3 here really helped.

Pulling all 7 guards during each spawn cycle I got about 10% xp per hour, for two level 52 iksar necros.

UPDATE: getting the same xp rate at level 53.

If you fall in the water (off the walkways), look for an emblem/shield; which is visable when above and below the water. Click it and your TL to infront of the bank.

So also a very quick way to get from the Zone-in to the Bank if your not a succor/evac class.

I just heard about the graveyard in katta, me being a 45 pally decided id give it a try, This place is awesome easy kills and use DW helm to heal in between fights, at 45 partnering with a 46 cleric friend was getting 1% per kill cleric wasnt needing to heal me at all usuing all her mana to nuke em. the Guards wont help you if you get in trouble fear undead and heal yourself. I will be soloing here until they get lb to me. now at 46 they are still DB to me.

Ok Guys and gals. this is the deal with this place coming from a Dark Elf wizzie who's diety is Solosek Ro. I am Dubious. If you are a Dark Race you will not be welcomed, but if you worship Innoruck (SK's and Necro's) you will be KOS everytime. I cannot speak for Iksar, but can tell you I can walk freely through zone without too much concern except the graveyard and an occasional vampyre taking a dislike to me. As for Rallic pack... well lets just say there are ways to do it if you're Dubious (see Rallic pack quest). But if your KOS forget it you better either get faction or find a friend to do it for you (or pay the 800plat or whatever it is on your server). Hope this helps all you dark races out there.
Shorter Route to Katta
# May 11 2003 at 4:08 PM Rating: Decent
Hello. I often farm acrylia in Ten Mtns just outside Katta, so I have a character bound there. I make the run from katta to civilization and back a couple times a day. I go from shadowhaven through the fake wall (in the building right behind the soulbinder) to echo caverns, to fungus grove, to twilight sea, to katta.

It takes less than half the time of going the long way, but if you are below level 20 or so, going through echo caverns is tough, and unless you know what you are doing, going through fungus grove is lethal.

Nothing sees invis though, and it is possible to make it through without aggroing anything, even without invis, you just have to get someone to show you the way.

Katta Legionaires
# Mar 31 2003 at 11:05 AM Rating: Good
A yummy necromancer hunting place (I came here at lvl 55 - got to 56 in one night)... All legionaires are dark blue still at 57. Set up your camp in the cemetery and then rotate through 6 nearby static guard posts and one wandering guard (also a fixed spawn)! My technique: pull with splurt, run deep into the cemetery, pet (augmented with a weapon), fear, darkness (dooming rather than cascading to save mana), lifetap if needed, med until the victim is ready to join the local undead, next... With demi-lich up - no medding needed.

Disadvantage of this place: loot... The legionaires do drop weapons and armor that can sell for decent pp. to vendors, however, there is no local vendor that would want to trade with us necros (please correct me if im wrong). Due to the weight of the loot, looting and then traveling to some further vendor would considerably slow down the xp-ing part. My solution, so far, -- I don't loot in Katta at all... I rather stick to xp-ing: rotating through 7 legionaires with no medding and no looting results in about 2-3 blue bubs of experience per hour at lvl 56.

RE: Katta Legionaires
# Apr 09 2003 at 8:49 AM Rating: Decent
I am afraid, news for necros are quite disenheartening...

Since the last patch (04/08/03), Katta has been considerably degraded as a necromancer hunting place. The new pathing changes introduced in the patch cause feared guards walk straight back to their mates rather than act confused running back and forth, as they did pre-patch. Now, I believe the only place one can successfully carry out fear-kiting in Katta is the graveyard: have to pull legionnaires deep into the graveyard, pet, fear, etc.

Compared to pre-patch, experience is much slower (longer runs take away from medding while the pet is killing): down from more than 2 blue bubbles per per hour to about 1 blue bubble per hour at level 58. IMHO, they have created another druid, wizard playground: i.e, rooting and nuking/dot cooking would still work but fear kiting is considerably constrained and in some places where it used to work now is infeasible. One example is the plaza by the bank: no fear kiting there unless you want the whole plaza come after you.

The approach mentioned above still works in the graveyard: park pet in the corner furthest from the courtyard, pull with Splurt, cast Dooming Darkness and send in pet as they get close, cast Invoke Fear, Bond of Death, then med. BoD isn't essential on every pull, but the extra damage means that I rarely need to recast Invoke Fear and never need to recast Darkness, so it evens out.

With Demi-Lich I can kill all seven guards in a spawn cycle, and get about a yellow every two hours at 56. OK XP for the level, and pretty good considering the low risk: the only place I've found that's consistently better is aggro-kiting in PoN, and that's much harder to survive.

Oh, and by the bank you just use Splurt to pull them behind the nearby bar and fear-kite up there. At 58 I could kill 8 or 9 in one spawn cycle, again slow but OK XP.

I have hunted here with my darkelf SK. Legionnaires are very easy. They can be single pulled with a spell even when they are bunched up together. However, I didn't have such luck with Centurions even though both types are blue to me. Perhaps I was not high enough for the Centurions to be able to single pull... Anyway, they seem to come in two types, monk and warrior. The latter can quad-hit for 200+. I would definitely categorize them as undercons, much like the Sanctus Seru guards. But since neither is resistant to magic, you might do well there. Just make sure you have gate ready and don't let them touch you. :)

In Bldg 9 (on EQ Atlas's Map) there are 2 guards standing with there backs to the wall (on the opposite side of the main room from the entry doors). Click on the wall between the guards and you will be teleported to the next level up.
