Netherbian Lair connects the Nexus to Luclin's Dawnshroud Peaks and Marus Seru. The main corridors are guarded by Hands of Seru and Shadow Haven defenders, and are safe for travel. The ancient mining caves connected to them, on the other hand, are full of aggressive creatures and rather treacherous.

I was passing through the zone on my way to Dawn Shroud Peaks, when I passed a Monk on the left side of the exit (sorry forgot his name) I hailed him, and he said he was a merchant on his way to the Bazaar but was afraid to pass though because of the dangers. I told him I would escort him, and he gave me a document. He told me that if I would escort him I would need to give him the document as a contract and we would be on our way. He mentioned in payment he would give me a trinket he was going to sell in the Bazaar as payment. I turned the note into him, and he gave me back a Signed Contract and told me to give it to him when we got to where we were going for payment, and began walking tward the Nexus. I instantly knew I was going to have to follow and defend him against mobs (and was wishing I was more than 50% mana) I followed him. the mobs came in waves, first Troglodites about 4 of them. I dispatched them quickly hoping there wouldnt be too many more mobs, leaving me with 20% mana. We walked a bit further and Fungusmen came (4 or 5) I began meleeing hoping i could do enough damage w/ him and keep him alive to conserve mana. We both finished off all the mobs and he continued. Another wave came with 4 various mobs, and while fighting 2 more mobs came up from behind. I used what little mana I had left to kill 3 mobs, and tried to melee the rest. I knew I was not doing enough damage to kill them before my Monk friend would die, and a necro came along and began to help kill them. We both worked on them, I was trying to keep aggro on me while she dotted, but we ended up watching the monk die. I mustered a teeny bit of mana while meeleeing and snared the 3 that were left and allowed the necro to flee and I ran about 3 minuites after. The mobs despawned as soon as i left aggro range.

Has anyone completed this quest? When the Monk respawns, I am going to attempt this again but this time with thorns and full mana. (55 druid, I was meleeing for 27 with Elaborate Scimitar and Regrowth was healing as fast as all the mobs were doing damage), I will edit this post with the results, as Im curious what trinket will be given, and Im positive it will give positive Santus Seru merchant faction as he had mentioned he was from there.

Prior to the quest, I also killed the Swarm Leader, and he dropped the Netherbian Chitin 20 ac 2 str 10 vs fire. So that must be his common drop, or incredible luck.

Ok, I finished this quest on last Friday.
The reward is an earring 3ac 3str 3wis and one other +3 (agi?) from what I recall. This replaced my Floop that I'd been wearing forever. I'm 52 Ranger and was about 1/2 mana also when I started this little adventure. Luckily a mid 30'd bard joined in 1/2 way through the ordeal and we were able to finish it. The mobs attacked in groups and the first group was 4 and the second and 3rd groups had 6 mobs each. this is not an easy task..hence the sweet reward. I have heard it is best NOT to do this quest in a group situation because the number of mobs is adjusted accordingly. If you have a group, just drop out and have them there to support and help you. BTW anyone have any idea on the respawn rate on the NPC for this quest? I was thru there the next day and didnt see him at all.
A Little Disappointing

I roamed this zone at lvl 32 thinking it would be well below me...not so. Almost everything conned cyan to me, a few greens, a couple blues, all aggro, but seemingly with a small radius.

I was disappointed in this zone, because for all of its ominous scary sounds and looks, it really is a nothing zone - almost incomplete. There is one extensive set of tunnels north of the center pillar with absolutely nothing in it at all.

I fought Netherbians (which are a pain) and Trogs, getting a couple nice drops in the form of a Flint Hammer (+2 wis) from a Trog warrior, and the Trog King dropped a nice +3 wis, 8ac kilt for Shm/Bst only. Didnt get much of anything off the fungus men, but all the mobs seem to drop quite a bit of coin, as much as 4p each.

Ostensibly there are 4 zones out of this one, Nexus, Dawnshroud, Marus Seru, and the Unknown zone. This Unknown zone is strange because I could not actually zone, it seemed to have a magnetic repulsion that wouldnt let you get within a certain distance of it. Almost got trained by some screwball carrying 30 mobs trying to get out here.

Hopefully they do more with this zone to improve the hunting because there isn't enough to go around during peak hours. It is one of the scarier zones I've been in, save the lack of mobs.

I wandered around here for a little while to get a feel for the place. It seems that the tunnel system on the left side of the main tunnel (coming from Nexus and going towards Dawnshroud Peaks) is divided between the Netherbians and the Troglodytes.

The section of tunnels on the left side nearest the Nexus zone is occupied by the Netherbians while the section of those tunnels nearest to Dawnshroud Peaks is occupied by the Troglodytes.

The fungus creatures seem to occupy the tunnel system on the right side though I have seen the one occasional fungus creature spawn on trog side and then start heading towards the fungus side of zone.

Now at the T-intersection of the main tunnel, the tunnel the goes to the right from there, there is a section along the right side of this other main tunnel that appears to be completely deserted at this time.
Nice exp, decent loot too

I was here for about an hour with my level 29 iksar monk, first grouped with a 32 warrior then with a 21 druid... Very nice exp here no matter what you kill, I got about 2 orange bubbles in an hour =) The Netherbian aliens make crazy squaling noises when you hit em too =D

Another note, the fungi drop decent monk/beastlord (but useable by other classes) armor, with a dark leather look. Dont have any screenshots but the Sleeves are 6ac +2 sv Magic, the pants are 7ac +2 sv cold, and the boots are 6ac +1agi... all the armor drops off the fungus guys.

Lastly I encountered a named called the Swarm leader, level 29, kind of an undercon but has a lot of hit points, so easy for tanks to kill harder for casters. he dropped a Netherbian Chitin, which is 20ac 2str 10vs fire plate classes only, all races
