Surefall Glades is a quiet, sparsely populated city nestled along the border of Jaggedpine Forest.

The guild houses of two factions can be found here: The Jaggedpine Treefolk (druids) and Protectors of Pine (rangers). Animal hunters be advised: The residents of Surefall fiercely guard the few bears to be found here. Don't get caught poaching!

broken druid armor quest ?
# Apr 24 2003 at 9:57 AM Rating: Decent
Hi fellow adventurers and especially druids,

I'm a lvl7 druid and I started the Pine Druid Armor quests at Surefall.

I got a curing box and a pattern, and collected the ingredients. Made a mistake, so I decided to restart the quest after emptying my curing box. So I destroyed the curing box and the tunic pattern.

Restarted the conversation with Te'Anara, obtained a new box and a new pattern, fitted all the ingredients in just as it was stated and i get this error that says the box is not fitted for combining these elements.

Am I doing something wrong ?
Must I first higher my tailoring skills ?
Will EQ ever forgive me for destroying my first kit ?

Help would be well appreciatrd as the pine druid quests are half of the surefall glades quests, and I want to grow a little wiser.

Thnx

The newbie armor quests usually aren't combined in the original box. you combine the pieces in a forge/sewing kit then combine this material with the pattern in your kit.

Its been years since that post but,,, I'm betting that the guy had the wrong kind of silks, had the same problem a while myself.

Course he's either quit or in Don or elemental armor now.

Enjoy the game.
Improving Arcjhery skill

Hello. I am level 14 Halfling Ranger that has, alas, neglected to develop his archery skill.

My question is: Can I use the SFG archery range to practice / develop my skill?

Thanks in advance for any information you can share.

Bloodsaber Defiler's head
# Dec 01 2002 at 3:24 PM Rating: Decent
I also found this head yesterday. This guy's killed me twice, and yesterday I stumbled upon his corpse, and looted it, and got his head. I was looking up about it today, and apparently someone in the Druid guild hall will take it and give you some kind of quest. I'm going to check it out tonight to see if it holds water.

Dec 2, 2002
Ok, an update. I checked it out last night, and gave the head to a Druid trainer in the hollowed out tree/hut near the back entrance to the caves, and he took it (sorry, forget the name, big guy though) and gave me a rusty gnoll sabre, or something like that, and said to bring it back sharpened along with some other items (don't remember what) and he'd give you another weapon, sounds pretty good.

I found a bloodsaber defiler while I was wandering around the Surefall caves, it was green to me (31) so I killed it easy with a 202hp spell and a 30hp holy might. Anyways it dropped a bloodsaber defilers head, its lore and no drop, anyone know what it is for?
Pine Scout Quest
# Sep 02 2002 at 5:39 PM Rating: Decent
I'm trying to gather components for the Pine Scout Quest. I haven't been finding any parts that are supposed to drop off the rats, and I looked in the bestiary on this site and coultn't find where they drop. Does anyone know where to get these items:
Giant Field Rat Whiskers
Large Rat Field Pelt
Or am I just being picky on the names, and I can use regular rat whiskers? Or are they just REALLY rare drops that aren't even listed as drops on this site? Please help!

Thanks,

Unfortunatly this is the best place to hunt the elusive Giant Field Rats. And yes they do not always drop Giant Field Rat Whiskers and Pelts. The first 2 I killed droped a Giant Rat Pelt and a Giant Rat Whisker. And yes they are not the same thing. Just be patient, you should get one "good" part off of them per day. By the way the best time seems to be at 6am and 6pm (dawn and dusk game time).

I have found a better place to hunt Spiderlings: Toxxulia Forest, next to Erudin. Just take the boat from S. Qeynos. It is a much safer trip than trying to run through Karana to get to West Freeport (and much closer). There is an added bonus in that you can take the poacher heads you get there and turn them into the Ranger in Surefall for the poacher quest, nice faction, exp and gold.

The best place I have found is in Qeynos Hills near the zone for North Qeynos. They are a slow spawn (Giant Field Rat for the whiskers - no other will do). I have had no problems getting the pelt to drop in that area. The frustrating thing is that about 1 in 10 GFR drops whiskers and the past 2 that dropped had Giant Rat Whiskers (instead of the field variety) and they do not work.

Does anyone know where there is a better place to hunt GFRs? I found a great place for Spiderlings required to make the silk thread - just west of Freeport - like shooting fish in a barrel as opposed to finding them in the Q-catacombs

# Sep 01 2001 at 11:50 AM Rating: Default
If surefall Glades is your starting home, you never have to leave the zone to make level 2 and beyond. All you need to do is jump in the water and attack the fish. Granted, fighting in the water can be a challenge in itself, but with practice, you get use to it. The loot from fish for a non-twink lvl 1 is very good as well. Fressh fish that you can either keep for food or sell for the same price as a firebeetles eye. THERE ARE TWO DANGERS - the first is drowning, so watch your air supply. The second is that the fish are place holders for parahna (spelling), and they are much higher a lvl - 5 I guess.

BTW, these rules also apply to starting in Rivervale. Just go hunting in the lake, and watch out for the spawning Parahna.

You can pick up the nitrates with no prob.. You don't have to be a druid to do so.. as long as you are not kos and he will talk to you then he will give you the flask that you need..

Peace to you!

Trying to raise these factions with my dark elf and even being indiff in wolf form is not high enough for some of these quests.

The only quest I can do so far is the poachers heads, since I can turn in then have someone camo me while dubious (so indiff is enough to turn in poachers heads)
Spawn time

Anyone got any idea of the spawn times of the Poacher, a poacher or the Gnoll Poacher? Killed 3 a poacher, 1 Poacher and 1 Gnoll Poacher in an hour the first time I found the hidden entrance.
I have now killed 1 a poacher in 3 days of frequent trips into and hours of camping in the cave.
Seem to be mighty rare for such common criters!

In the caves there are lots of places to go swimming. Thats great until you get lost. I personally get lost in the underground tunnels and drowned. It took someone with Enduring Breath 1 1/2 hours to find it. The tunntels are very narrow and twisty, so be carefull.

I also got lost swimming under Surefall Glade, there was no place for me to come up for air. So naturally I died. I have not retrieved my corpse as of this writing and I probably won't be lucky enough to find it again....I certainly won't go looking for it and when I asked for help locating it, nobody responded to my plea's for help. Well good luck if you are an explorer as I am.....lmao.

I too drowned in the underground water area, but my shout for help was answered by a very helpful gentleman whose name starts with Wr. He had swimming skill over 60 and recovered my body for me. There are nice people, just not always in the zone at the time you'd hope. But despair not, ask a few times each day and you might get a response (for future reference).

if you start out in this area of the world and seek a short respit from gnolls and rabid wolves go to the caves in surefall glade and hunt the poachers that commonly spawn here..they are TOUGH for the lvl they con though so be careful ...blues took me, a lvl 8 bard, down to nearly one bubble of health..but the exp is good and they drop quest items which you can turn in for a little reward (nothing great.but its extra exp and cash so I'm not gunna argue) plus those caves are kool and its just something different..certianly not a place to stay and hunt for a long time but its a good break from usual without going far or taking much risk.

If a guard hears you attacking a bear in this zone, you will die a quick and painful death. This even goes for Mammoth who you have to kill for a quest in this zone.

I've tested the extreme case for this premise (not willingly, mind you). The druids don't care *who* started the fight, and, indeed, you don't even have to attack back. If a bear aggroes to you in the Glade, even if you are completely passive, never lay a finger on the attacking bear, and simply run for the zone border, you will *still* be attacked by the assembled druids and rangers. Best advice is simply to STAY OUT of the secret cave entirely.

P.S. I almost made it too, until the ranger at the archery range hit me for 210 points, clear across the Glade.

If you're not on friendly terms with the bears of Surefall Glade, don't swim in the lake close to the cave entrance behind the waterfall: bears may come out of the cave and attack you in the water.

I've also seen bears wandering in the forest between the druid guild and the concealed entrance to the bear caves, so keep your eyes open in that area too.

(As Blackadder said: the druid and ranger NPCs don't care who started a fight; they will always jump in on the side of the bears.)

Also: as a druid friend of mine discovered, the NPCs will attack and kill you if you cast an offensive spell on another player in Surefall Glade. The other player was 'protected' from her inadvertent casting, but my friend still got obliterated by several very angry NPCs...

Are there exceptions to the rule like it's ok to kill a RABID GRIZZLY? I want to kill a rabid grizzly and give the diseased pelt to a Priestess in the Temple of Rodcet Nife hidden in the city of Qeynos. What I don't want is to lose my ability to enter Surefall Glade in good standing.

I helped someone locate rabid bears and wolves for a quest, and helped attack them. I still am on amiable relations with the bears and wolves, so I think if you don't kill too many (I helped with 6) it won't cause a problem. It was for the diseased pelt Priestess quest.

Standard tactic for most guards. I accidently cast snare instead of SoW on someone on N Karana bridge - barely made it to zone with 2 guards on me.
