The Crystal Caverns are the site of Froststone, once home to the Coldain. Although the citizens of Froststone still have a small outpost in these caverns, the area is largely controlled by the Ry`Gorr Clan. Adventurers must also beware of the tentacle terrors and crystal spiders which have made homes out of the abandoned halls.

Anyone know what gives good faction in Coldstone?
Looking for any info on the city, quests, or how to sell/buy down there..

Thanks in advance

Killing Orcs both above ground and in the Caverns themselves doesn't give you good faction for Dwarves. I read elsewhere that killing Giants doesn't help faction here, but I might try that anyway. Killing the StalagTerrors doesn't effect faction either way. I too am stumped. If I find out I'll post it here though

I think that faction down there is quest based, certainly there seem to be a few likely quest starts, but they seem to be broken.

One seems to be talking to the captain (he's in a room close to the 2 guards at the tunnel heading to the broken bridge area) and he seems to imply that if you wish to stay you should help with the general monster killing to keep the outpost safe.

The other one is Guard Grabadin (i think that's his name) who is the guard up on the right wall as you first come into the outpost. He asks to be called Grab, and if you say "Hi Grab" he mentions about giving you a quick task to do, but I can't get him to give me anything to do!

There is also something from the Historian, who refers to Glights ghost being seen around a frozen waterfall. Not sure where that is (I did wonder if it was the waterfall in the broken bridge room, but I'm not sure now) but I'll keep looking!

anyone tried to initiate the "tasks" line with Grab either invis or Sneaking as a rogue?

I said "another guard mentiones a task but will not give it" to the capt and that initiated A QUEST.

wow, that sounded like BS, but it worked.

Anyway, the captain says"Good! I have another one for you then. It seems the Ry'Gorr have become aware of a large mineral deposit which is far too close to our keep. He must be stopped before he can submit report. Kill the foreman before he has a chance to send his findings to the main encampment outside these caves. Bring the note back to Scout Grandan so that he may decipher whatever else is in the report."

Ok, what this tells us is that there is a quest before this, that a letter "should" drop off the foreman, I killed him with a friend and don't remember looting a letter, and that there is quite a quest here.

Ok, so far no letter on Foreman to go further on with the quest.

Also I went and killed a Dorf Miner to check the Faction, it is Froststone(sp?) citizen. Guess guards would be guards, merchants merchants.....if so.....

Alan said something to the effect, on the sony boards before they were shut down, that they have not implemented the quests yet for faction gain here and that it is not a high priority...soo looks like we are just going to have to wait.

Gotta love verants "finished product"

Try and give the miners the ry'gorr miner picks, maybe the guards, maybe the historian, just try it, these are really easy to find on the floor cuz no one wants em. I'm gonna try this myself and I'll reply here, I'm not registered at this site so won't be in the author spot
Very Easy Zone

This zone is Gigantic, but the mobs are spaced out so it makes it terribly easy, i started out pullin but switched to the everyone run to the next mob) although its somewhat confusing even if you get lost its not so bad, saw 2 foremans and a herbalist, decent stuff on herbie, queens not to hard either but itll take you awhile to find er)
Tankenstein
P.S. shes always camped too)p

This zone has a very graduated layout that alows several different levels to get relatively safe XP. When you zone in you are in the Orc area, a small but balanced group at lvl 30 could fight well here. Loot is good with the Herbalist spawning randomly throughout. He's not rare. Other orcs are a mix of melee and casters but once you clear in to any corner you can keep the orcs controled easily.

Lower down is the Forman Room, this is tougher, more MOBS, level 35 is probable more appropriate for here. An enchanter is required if your getting experience still because of the density of orcs in the room. One not, remember AE spells are 3 dimentional, AE mez hits the floor above and below, when it breaks, stand by for train. We learned (were reminded) very rudely by a swarm of angry Orcs.

Further in is the Coldain Area, we pushed thru to the broken bridge. Past the broken Bridge is a level 35 and above area, go at a lower level at your own risk. Stalag Terrors are in one cave there and a Stalag Carver was there too. Higher level, they come in pairs mostly and run when down on life. Snare ALL MOBS when fighting here. Also they spawn very fast. When we were fighting the Carver in the end room of the cave all spawns behind us were popped before we could clear the room (full group 3 lvl 36's, 3 lvl 31-33) Enchanter, Druid and Shamen all went OOM before the end, Druid got evac off after a quick med. Learning point, SNARE EVERYTHING and watch behind for respawns.

Good Luck

It is easy to camp with a team of 45ish. BUT orc well is obviously not that easy if you wana solo. Spawn rate is around 13 minutes, pretty fast. Orc is KOS to all Lv, we are Lv57 and Lv52 partner but still attack. Orc hit pretty hard. And the 3D maze of that well is quite confusing I think. Behind Orc area is the Coldain, there is two ways to Coldain area so far as I know. One higher way is a bridge, another way is at the bottom of the Orc Icy well, u can levitate and go down, pretty easy to go with invisible, etc. Go thru water-way (some mob in water) will lead to a Giant Valley, Levitate up will find Coldain. Go straight in waterway will lead to a bony place with some flag, Thru bridges will lead to a 2 way, go right one and at the end will find that Queen. Wish u good luck. BTW, anyone can tell me Herbalist spawn point? I find it once at the bottom of well, Second time can track it only but definitely not at bottom area. Is it random spawn? Pls tell me if someone hv a good exp in camping him. Druid in S Ro.
on the herbalist...
# Jan 30 2001 at 3:31 PM Rating: Default
It's a random spawn.. so there's no camping him. You just need a bit of luck of finding him.
RE: on the herbalist...
# Jan 30 2001 at 5:14 PM Rating: Default
One guarenteed method of finding the Herbalist.

Go OOM with all casters and half life with tanks and then all sit down. He'll show up momentarily with a few of his friends.

Herbalist seems to spawn more higher up the zone, close to the entrance. He's not really rare, but his good drops are rare.

I found that there were a few places he seemed to spawn commonly.

1- The tunnel at the bottom of the pit
2- In the passage way up from the bottom to the
second to last floor
3- The passageway with the blue floor half way up

I spent ages camping him and didn't get a robe, but those were the most common places i saw him.

Found him, and scored myself a herbalist pack. Very easy, was in a group with 30 war(me) 36 ranger, 34 cleric, and 35 mage. We cleared the path from top to bottom(the town), and only found one herbalist.

We had the herbie spawn three times for us and the inspector twice over a period of an hour and a half.

Inspector had crystaline belt and ccs and herbie had pack once and ccs twice. Nice huh? No pattern, and completely random. Once time the herbie popped within 5 minutes of killing him before, the next time it was 45 minutes.
