Flashing lights atop the one giant spire?

I was coming up on the giant spires in DL, so I just decided to run all the way up top of the spires for fun. When I got on top of one of them, I looked across and saw 5 flashing lights on top of one of the other arms of the spire, so I went to check it out. When I got up to where the lights were, they were just pulsing flashes of light. So, I decided to click on one of the lights for some reason and it opened up into what looks like some kind of an 'oven' called a Spacial Distortion that you can do some sort of combine in. What can be combined in this, I do not know, but what an interesting place for them to put something like this.

If anyone knows what this is, please fill me in, cuz it may have been said here somewhere that I just haven't seen.

new mob?
# Jun 30 2012 at 10:11 PM Rating: Good
Today I encountered a named giant standing just outside the walls of the giant fort in Dreadlands. loc = N720, P1880, P300
Unfortunately, I did not take a screenshot prior to killing him. His name was "Klaldran the Bald". He looked just like all the other giants in the fort and that wander the snow region in Dreadlands.
Conned grey to a level 71 and "scowls at" to my wood elf ranger. By killing him, faction with The Kromdek gets worse.
I have not found any reference to him here on alla. Does anyone know if he is involved with a quest or task?
Thank you.

Giant Tidings Task
# Nov 17 2008 at 10:26 AM Rating: Decent
Can someone please help me? I have been searching and searching Alla to find information on the Giant Tidings task that I choose in Dreadland, I have to find suitable living plots and it sends me to Karnor's Castle. I wanted to see if I have to explore the whole castle before my task is updated or what. I have found information on other quests/task but nothing on the Giant Tidings Task. Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.

anyone ever go to the top of the the tallest towers in DL at the druid port it to find white glowing things and find that when you click on it you get a Always Works window with an icon like a baking oven?
These can be found at the undead locations.

I love dreadlands, its hte best solo zone to learn how to kite from 39 to 51,to me its the best solo zone for level 40 imho compared to any other zone this one is easy and still gives you a chance to learn unlike most new zones and new expansions wich are more group related and suck
for ranger:easy pulls and solo on the boardwalk and no adds and if adds run to karnors and zone

Gated into the Dreadlands today, got to the tunnel and I saw 'a loyal follower' on track. Never seen it before, and I didn't see any listing in the bestiary.

It's dark blue to a 49 druid, and I didn't track it to see what it was because I was on an errand. Anyone have info?

Another update. As of 6/2/04 patch, 'a loyal follower' is no longer a merchant. He's merely an NPC, and is indifferent to a 51 Druid of Tunare. He cons db, and is still in the same spot.

Update: I decided to go back and check for this guy again, he was still up. Found him by the tunnel between lost valley and the snowy part, on the 'ground level' in the corner. He is a merchant, Iksar, conned indifferent to a 49 Druid of Tunare. The only peculiar thing is that he had nothing in his inventory to buy, however I didn't try to sell him anything either.

Hello, I'm interested in taking a specific group here from my guild, and want to know if we could survive, and get a nice bit of experiance.

36 Ogre Warrior
34 Human Ranger
35or36 Cleric
35or36 Enchanter
35or36 Shaman
35or36 Paladin

Is it worth collecting a group up and comeing here at our low levels? Or should we stick with some other place? If I do get all of them together we'd be getting the full group exp bonus, but would it be enough to survive?

Please anyone leave a suggestion.

Thanks in advance.

# Apr 24 2003 at 3:21 AM Rating: Decent
I find that this lvl works well for pallys from 39-45 and maybe 46 the xp really slows down around 44 even when youre chaim pulling. Which this is an awsome zone for. If you want to solo as a pally you will need to be almost in your high end 40's to do so or take a cleric buddy with you. Lots of adds and take a bow cuts down the time for pulls
RE: Great Zone
# May 14 2003 at 9:55 AM Rating: Decent
Actually, there are lots of undead in the Lost Valley area of the zone by the Ancient Combine city which is perfect for a solo pally between 46 and 48. Plaguebringer thieves are quite easy to solo.

Nice spot for a 34+ druid, if you have Fury of Air (buy from Thurgadin - 250DD and 6sec stun). Load up on KEI if you want to pull red mobs, otherwise you'll have to stick with blues. Head out to the KC zone, SoW up, pick up a voracious brute (with KEI) or a giant (without), ensnare, run, FOA, run, med, rinse, repeat.

Exp is great, money is better, and if you're a halfling tailor like myself, the brute hides come in handy (if you're not, they go for a fairly decent price in the Bazaar). This is my experience anyway, on Venril Sathir, not sure how it compares on more crowded servers...

I leveled in The Dreadlands from level 36 to 49. I LFG'd as a 40 bst. until I got to level 39, then was able to solo pretty much the whole zone, save for the ravishing drolvargs and the high end spiders. The only thing I needed was a fresh batch of KEI, which is readily available due to PoP after zoning into Fironia Vie to the east.

RE: where to go
# Apr 14 2003 at 10:33 AM Rating: Decent
Yer probably going to have a hard time finding a group here at your level. Most groups are looking for tanks in the low 40s. At your level, I suggest you go to The Overthere instead. Its also very good xps and the groups will be easy to come by.

Clerics
# Jan 15 2003 at 11:57 PM Rating: Decent
I brought my cleric here at level 35, as OT was getting too overcrowded. Got groups easily, had to rely on superior healing until I hit 39 and got CH. KEI is definately needed if your going to try this place early, but as with most zones, clerics can get groups much earlier.

Middle or SE ruins with a quick pulling group is the best, so far as i've seen. No wandering adds, chain pulls, and with KEI, you can med until someone needs a heal or rebuffing. Rangers make excellent pullers here as well.

I spent maybe 2 hours a level here, until 40. Slowed down since then, spending too much time in GD getting faction off giants. Which btw, is a great place to get experience at 40 if you can find a low enough group.

Anyway, I hope that helps.

Dreadlands have a perfect solo camp for lvl36-40 Mages (or others that don't kite)...The Northwest Yeti cave.

Total of 7 Yeti, all parked. No wandering, and very low aggro range. With a focused, burned out and dual wielding fire pet pulling one at a time, I was able to take all 7 with 16m to spare. By the time you med to full, they repop. Roughly 11-16% XP per cycle at lvl 38/39 (almost a yellow per 7)

Pull with Malaise, send pet in. Nuke at 75% with blaze, heal pet. It will run at 20%, then just finish with Shock of Swords. Drop about 4pp each plus gems and other nice items. Made about 180pp per level after selling.
No Problem at 34
# Jan 08 2003 at 1:07 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, this is my first character so maybe I'm crazy but I'm doing fine here. Perhaps its the way I fight as a solo druid. I came here when I hit 34 found I was fine and plan on spending some time here. Since most critters max out around 40, they're perfect for great exp and not to hard to handle. The question for me is whether I can take out one or two "reds" before I deplete my mana. The biggest danger is when med-ing I think. Thats the time when I get killed. Becarefull if AFK. I now plan to port to safety, med, gate back, kill then repeat.
Nindail's Guide to DL Fighting!
# Jan 05 2003 at 5:44 PM Rating: Excellent
I, myself, have been grping & soloing in DL since I was a wee lad. (Started at lvl 38... ahem... Currently 44) And with my experience (Not lvl XP.. hehe... MINE!) I will give all you newbs to DL a great guide on how to achieve my level & higher in DL!

NOTE: Every, and I mean, EVERY mob here will be KoS to you (With the exeption of Veltar to Ikkies)

OTHER NOTE: Every mob here has a chance to drop Runes, Words, & Writs. Can also drop random jewels & No stat jewel (ear)rings. EVERY mob drops money here. If you want, come here when your bored, find a grp that's not looting corpses, & loot the cash from them. Can drop up to 7pp a corpse.

To Solo-
Great for most classes, hell for others. I will personally give you the Do's and Do Not's of soloing here...

Do...
-buy many SoW potions and use it as soon as the last one wears. Most mobs here can out-run a no-sow person and bring him to an oozy death.
-go for blues. Not L.Blues & lower or Whites & above. Some mobs here can be an undercon. For instance, I once got aggro from a Moutain Giant Steep (Blue at 42) and only lasted about 30 seconds (And I was grped).
-stay near some sort of zone. KC & FV are the best places to hide in case you pull 1 too many adds.
-have a fast weapon/haste item/enc PLer (Melee) or have root/snare/fear & a nuke ready (INT & WIS casters) in case your pet/you is/are taking too much dmg so you can quickly counterstrike it.

Do NOT...
-stray into the zone too far.
-solo alone. Eventually, you will be able to, but unless your a 45+ Necro, don't even try it until 47+. Always be in /y range with another soloer or grp.
-go AFK for too long. Bored or waiting for something to spawn, dont do it. Mob's have a tendency to wander to empty places here so you may want to
a) Head over to a corner in Lost Vallet
b) Go near a zone or
c) sit beside a grp who are pwning anything in sight.
-(if in the Lost Valley Skelly Place) Climb to the top of the spires as a safe spot. I have heard of mobs climbing up there and Pushing people right off to their deaths.

Places to fight & grp-

Lost Valley Outpost (Eastern part, Season: Fall)-
This zone is a Unrest away from Unrest. Skellys live in this part of the zone & can hit for 50+. Normally they are 39-45, but I have heard of some going up the scale. If fighting here, dont bother to run if they are killing you because the nearest zone is BW, and that is one hell of a run. If going AFK, go to the real Spires. If medding, turn on lev & go up the spires until you feel your gonna have Airline Sickness. The platforms are kinda hard to maneuver on since they vary in height. If your 41+, and have good Undead Bane nukes, you will love this part.

Exit from frost cave (Eastern part, Season: Winter)-
Yeti's, MG's, & Drachnids like to roam here. Not too popular to grp, but nice soloing place. Not much to say but if you get too many adds, run to the entrance of the cave & die. You can get a rez later and your corpse will be easy to find. Oh and btw, If you get nuked for 700+, or if you see Vox coming toward you, repeat death tactic only crawl into a little ball and suck your thumb. There's a lvl 60 Dragon (Gorenaire) in the Winter part and can rip through an average grp or soloer here like Tissue paper.

Ruins around KC (Center of Zone, Season: Summer)- The most popular & best place to fight. Easy acess to McTrain (A.K.A- KC) & best mobs. NE ruins are almost always camped. If you can, the SE ruins & N ruins are exellent for both grping/soloing. All types of mobs (Cept for Skelly's & Gore /shiver) can pop here. Not much to say here but if you shout that your LFG, 999 out of 1000 times you'll be called to the ruins or something very close to them.

Drachnid Webs (Western Part, Season: Spring/Summery)-
Drachnid Webs dot the West of the zone. FV is the closest zone to the webs, with exeption to the Easternmost one, which your zone will be FM. Drachnids pop here, with the occasional random Mob. There is a Rare mob here, called A dread widow. She drops the Drachnid Thyxl, a very nice (But NO DROP) INT caster Item.

Undead Ruins (Southeast Part, Season: Spring/Summery)-
These ruins hold undead. Same as the ones in the Combine Outpost. Run to FV if in danger. Not likely anyone ever comes here, but sometimes, they do. Beware, Veltar, a lvl 60 Ikky Monk, lives in the one closest to the Mid Ruins. Other than that, nice spot to fight.

Mountain Giant Fort (Southern Part, Season: Winter)-
The MG fort is almost always Completely Up. Almost noone fights here for a reason: It's very cramped up here and if your clearing it, you WILL get adds. If your camping it after clearing, you can get up to 4 Extra MG's killing you. Too far from a zone to run to, but if you have SoW & Lev, try to run to KC if in danger. Sometimes taken over by Drachnids. Sometimes when I run to KC, I land with my lev on a wall at the fort. The Walls are build too high up for them to reach me & attack. I have fun taunting them b4 I Mind Wipe em & run.

Mob types-

Drachnids- Half Dark elf, Half Spider, they roam & can pop ANYWHERE in zone. They are associated with Mayong Mistmoore & the Agents of Mistmoore. All are Rangers. They cast a worhtless 15 Dmg nuke & almost always (Unless they just popped by your grp/you) have a Dmg shield on. Hit fast & run fast. Hit for 60+. If you intend to solo em, Fight em either where you find em or run to a safe haven where you pull to. Drop Silks, Drach Blood, Drach Web Sack, & Drach Leg Tip.

Drolvargs- Big werewolves in armor. Hit fast, Hit hard. On Pack of Tomar faction. Ragers & Ravishing ones are best to stay away from if soloing. Can Double for 105 (210 dmg in one combinded hit). Drop Bronze Armor, Rusty & FS Weaps, & Canines, which are used for FV Drolvarg Teeth quest. See Invis.

Yeti's/Brute's- Big apes. Nothing special about them. Hit for 70+. Yeti's are lower lvl than brutes. Brutes drop Brute hides.

I just wanted to point out that a chanter about his wits can do well here. You don't have to be 45+ I started soloing here@ 41 and I'm now 45 getting ready to ding 46. The key to the soloing chanter is Sow is a must always have it up. If you can get kei great, but I have only had it once since I started soloing. (Now i'm a junky)Stay near KC and on the platform near kc pull ragers charm holds longer on them and let them tear up everything else.
Well THAT was a mistake...

I wanna know who the sick so-and-so was who made the Maps of Myrist EQ Atlas pages for this zone. Whoever it is should be beaten with severed orc foot for marking it as levels 1-10! My 25 druid was running through in wolf form trying to find the FV zone AND stay alive to get there. Smiley: banghead

I went from 42 to 49 here and I wish I had started at 39. This zone is great because it never seems to run out of mobs and there is enough plat on the mobs so that I usually have a couple of hundred plat after each session.

I play a Cleric and the trick is to get an optimal group mix for efficient XP. Ideally you want a Cleric (for the obvious reasons); a Ranger (for pulling (no FD required in this zone), casting sow and casting snare); a warrior to tank the mobs; a chanter (or a bard) for crowd control (especially valuable in this zone where chainpulling is essential to optimal XP); and any 2 more consisting of a rogue (or 2), a shammy, or a chanter or bard (the rogues are good for DPS obviously, the shammy for buffs, debuffs and backup heals and having a chanter and a bard increases mana recovery and speeds up the tanks... personally I would go with the 2 rogues or mebbe the bard and a rogue).
