Ancient tales speak of an evil pact between the rulers of the planes of Fear and Hate that spawned this murky wetland. In homage and pride of this legend, the trolls who have inhabited these swamplands for eras have named this dank region Innothule.

Spiraling upward like the twisted, gnarly fingers of Innoruuk himself, willows and other dreary swampland trees are generously scattered across the terrain. A thick layer of brown and emerald, mossy slime blankets the earthen shores and the trunks of the swampland behemoths. Several mounts of damp, moldy earth rise up from the shallow waters, carving a chaotic and awkward path of solid ground.

I made a new little Troll SK t'other day, just for a break from the overthere and suchlike.
I got into Innothule swamp, only to find it with very little other than decaying skeletons, that swarm you if you attack 1 of them!
The only ways I got around this were as follows:
- Pull it (them) back to the Grobb tunnel
- Don't attack skeletons
- Set a challenge for my innate regen, which was quite fun

If anybody has any better ideas, could you please tell me.

Thanks in advance

I found lots of other mobs to aggro me (at level 3) just going up along the east zonewall. Calling on the skeleton horde is kind of fun though, I would just take as many down as I could then respawn in view at the newb soulbind point. I suppose a low enough person to get xp here could use hp buffs and a damage shield to last longer against the horde.

The war was in this zone is because the Dark Elves were trying to take back the Trolls old home and they succeeded. DON'T COMPLAIN if u had a high lvl toon u wouldn't have cared what zone it was in u would have just fought in it and not cared. But yes I see your point of the zone but there wasnt a high lvl zone for this war to take place in.

The only way I have figured out to get my (now lvl 15) Froglok home is to log her out and then hit the "go home" button after six hours off line. Then to get out I gate myself back to PoK. Inconvenient, but it works.

Yeah, several newbie zones have been ruined by this dumb war. It was designed to cater to ubers, so should have been in uber zones. I know many people for whom this was the last straw (. WoW benefitted from this sad to say...

I wish they had put some actual thought into this. If the "invaders" had been level appropriate for the various zones, this could have been loads of fun, but alas not.

It seems to fit in with their current direction though. After the new (dreadful) tutorial, you are popped into PoK on exiting. Previously, you went to your home town and were bound in the adjacent newbie zone. Now, you remain bound in Gloomingdeep. How stupid was that decision. At the very least, it should have been PoK.

What it all looks like is they are eliminating home towns, their newbie zones etc. It seems to be going towards an EQ2 type of experience. I beta'd EQ2 and that was enough to convince me to save my money on that piece of......

Well yeah they are just trying to push everyone into eq2. I think they should have made this a war that all the lvls could fight. Stupid Sony

This zone now has Shadowed Men on one island in the North West area above a shrunken boat on the map. They are like level 18 to 24,but not sure....I didn't stick around long enough(they're all KOS to me). I was level 20 at the time and they were all blue to red. Not sure what they drop for loot or if they're tied-into a new quest in Gukta. Probably part of the new Task system.

Now officially a Froglok Newbie zone, the swamp is an a mazing place to work on Trades and make great money. There are tons of Skeletons, spiderlings, Moccasins and Zombies right outside the entrance to Gukta. The Zombies are worth their weight in gold as they often drop skins, weapons/armor and have recently started dropping lightstones and small bricks of ore. Killing Skeletons you can completely outfit a newbie with about an hour's hard work. The spiderlings are famous for dropping one to two spiderling silks/kill (sell for around 1pp each in Nexus, or use to improve Tailoring). The moccasins are dropping lightstones and smallbricks of ore (must be something in the water!lol) on a regular basis, great for money(the lightstones sell at NPC merchant Rualla for around 7pp) and working on your Smithing.
Good Hunting!

I looted lots of cloth off of the decaying skeletons and zombies. I've looted woven off of Kobolds of all sorts and I can't remember if it was a higher level fungus or a skeleton but the cloth is a very common drop and the woven is semi-common. By level 4 I had an entire set of cloth, not much to brag about but if you're not twinked every little bit helps.

Would my Erudite SK be KOS in the swamp or any of the other troll/ogre locales? I guess I'm confused since Erudites aren't considered an evil race per se, but my class and religion (cazic-thule) would definitley qualify as evil.

Yes, you are KOS to us in Da Swamp.
Due to your human-like characteristics we view Erudites as dark skinned humans with really massive heads. To a Troll you are indistinguishable from a human, Barbarian, or half-elf. Each of you just looks like food to us.

I have found that staying near the troll merchant on the hand near the skellie tower will reap good benefits. During the night, froglok foragers and kobold hunters will attack you a lot, but during the day you can rest up and fight giant water moccasins. The moccasins will drop either a Giant Snake Fang or a Giant Snake Venom Sac, both will sell to the vendor on the hand for 3.5 gold. I myself made about 7 plat in one EQ day... not too shabby. However, at night the frogloks and kobolds will really gang up so be in a group or be lvl 10-11 if you want to hoarde all the money to yourself.

I started my first ever 'Dark Race' character last week--Troll Shadow Knight. If I had known what a fantastic zone Innothule Swamp was, I would have come here long ago.

Alaren, GREAT STRATEGY GUIDE!! I followed your advice closely and got to level 8 in just a few hours of play time. The only thing I did differently was to hang out in front of Guk at level 5 to early 7 and pull Fishermen to the front and fight them there. I found that Froglocks, Fishermen, and the fungus heads would not follow me into the covered area in front of the zone tunnel (I would back up in there when I bit off too much). Guess even they are afraid of Guk. :)

Any tips on selling the the piles of Netted armor I have accumulated? Thought I would head up to EC tunnel soon and try to auction. What does it usually sell for? I was thinking about 1pp per AC. ????

Hunting in Ionnuthule
# May 16 2001 at 1:47 AM Rating: Decent

My first character, a Halfling warrior, was required to hunt the swamps for some time in the search for an Alligator skin for the Leatherfoot Raider cap Quest.

My best advice to non-evil races is avoid of Ionuthule if you have to - only because it's a long corpse run from Freeport when it inevitably happens.

Of course casters with Bind Affinity and Evils can ignore this advice.

If you HAVE to venture into the swamps - try not to get distracted by the temptations of easy cash - go after what you have to get, and go hard. This is a tough place for the low leveled light sider.

I also advise getting the assistance of a Ranger to help you find your prey in the swamps, and watch out for an NPC Troll Shaman, I forget her name who wanders the Northern end of the swamp, making life misearble for little halfling fighters who just want to chop 'gators.

It's not a bad place to start for my trollen brothers, but as soon as you have leveled up a bit, say, to L5, head out to EC, WC, or NRO. Catch a bind at the secret tunnels into Freeport and start wasting orcs. This is the easiest place to gain experience, if you ask me. Look for my guide in the Shaman or Monk section titled, "Good hunting areas for the lower levels" or something like that. that will get you up to L13 easily.
Good luck!

Working Innothule level 1-7
# Aug 22 2000 at 11:33 PM Rating: Excellent
1 post
Greetings.

I've been hunting in Innothule Swamp with my Dark Elf Necromancer since lvl 1, and I have to say the Trolls and Ogres lucked out with a incredible newbie zone.

For those of you who have never been to Innothule, it's a unique zone in that at some point, you will have to jump in the water. I went from 1 to a 45 Swimming skill in my time here. And everything in the zone swims better than you, especially the zone's main attraction, the Frogloks.

I hope to provide some information on hunting in this lucritive zone, and not look like an ass in doing so. So, shall we?

WHAT IS INNOTHULE SWAMP?

Innothule Swamp is officially the Troll newbie zone. It is accessed from the south via the Troll city of Grobb, from the west by the Ferrott, from the north by the Southern Desert of Ro, and from the east one would be leaving the dungeon of Upper Guk.

My advice for all who first come here is...stick to the walls. Running (and swimming) away from the walls can get you lost and confused VERY fast. Eventually, you will come a zone entrance, and odds are there will be someone there (especially Guk) who can guide you.

And I really suggest anyone heading here to hunt for a long period of time to get a good map. Of course, Allakhazam can direct you to several sites where one can find maps.

WHY INNOTHULE?

Well, Innothule has a wide variety of creatures to hunt. Officially, it's for lvls 1-10. And the best part is that each 'level' has its own area, from the newbie area outside Grobb for 1-4's, to the Frogloks and Froglok Fisherman outside Guk for 4's to 7's, to the Kobold Hunters and Skeletons near the tower for 7-10.

For those high level hunters, there's a Shadow Man Camp in the middle of the swamp, but forgive me if discrection has been the better part of valor and I've avoided it like the plague.

As I said, each 'level' keeps to itself, so rarely will you find decaying skeletons mixed in with Froglok fisherman. However, there's no clear defining boundary about where one hunting area ends and the next begins. So use discretion.

Oh, yeah...you will get rich hunting here. Trust me on this. Most things drop some kind of item to be sold, and don't forget bone chips can be found here, and if you get enough, sell them to a Necro or Shadow Knight in another zone.

And now...how to get the mad cash.

Frogloks drop woven or netted armor along with cash. I've outfitted my Necromancer with full woven armor since I've gotten here, so much that I dropped my wussy newbie robe.
Woven/Netted is lightweight magical armor, good for magic casters AND monks. And you can sell any excess to the merchants in Grobb, or once you get your bearings, the Troll merchant near the Undead Tower will buy from you so you can avoid zoning like I do (but wait till I get my cable modem, oh yes...)

Warning - I know not if the Troll merchant will sell to non-evil races. You have been warned.

HOW DO I HUNT?

Carefully.

First off, when you arrive, be prepared to swim. You will sometimes have to chase prey off an island into the water, and it's very easy to lose track of your air. Plus, it's tough to get around in the water. So be very careful at first, eventually your swimming score will shoot up.

Second, sometimes creatures will pop from the water out at you like Jason from the end of "Friday the 13th." So you always have to be on the lookout and make sure you med/bind wound/regenerate up on a hill or far away from the water.

LVL 1-4

This area is near the entrance to Grobb. You can see the entrance clearly due to the fires and big ass Troll Bashers sitting nearby. Nearby are snakes, decaying skeletons, froglok tads, and lesser kobolds. Easy pickings for the young adventurer. I advise you now, though, to make sure you know your way back to the Bashers before attacking, just in case things get out of hand or you get mobbed. Hunt nicely, get some XP and nice loot, and welcome to the wonderful world of fighting in muck.

LVL 4-7

Time to make your way in the world, and you will do this by fighting Frogloks. From Grobb, face north and walk along the right hand wall of the zone. This will eventually lead you to the Froglok hunting grounds. If you go to Guk, you've gone to far. And believe me, you can't miss Guk.

Look for Frogloks by themselves, and con them first. And then make sure they're by themselves. You can get mobbed by Frogloks fast. Take the time and patience to make sure you're safe and you will level fast. When you get up to lvl 5, you can go a bit further and look for Froglok Fisherman. Again, be careful and look for anyone else who can jump in. These guys can be found along the wall and a little further away from it. Near Guk is where you'll fine most of them, near the zone entrance and on nearby islands. Keep doing this until you hit lvl 7.

LVL 7-10

Go north from Guk, hugging the wall, and you will come across a Tower eventually a little aways from the wall. Around here, you will find skeletons, giant moccasins, zombies, Froglok Foragers, and Kobold Hunters. Be careful, con everything, and again, you will shoot up in levels in no time. The Troll merchant is Southwest from the Tower, look for the stone hand sticking out of the water and climb up on the palm to find him.

WHAT ABOUT GUK?

I know some people swear by Guk. Me, I just swear at it. It's a nice dungeon, but I'm not going to attempt it until lvl 10. My two trips into the first room ended in disaster, at lvl 5 and lvl 7 when I got swamped after attacking two blues and pulling three reds in the process. I know it's considered by many the best dungeon in the game. I would recommend a strong group, a good map, and a game plan before diving in.

But it is all Frogloks. Which means cash and loot. Your call.

IN CLOSING

Well, that's my thoughts on the Innothule Swamp. Of course, if anyone thinks differently, please post and let me know! To wit, I'm on the Prexus server and my Necro is Jalaren. Look me up if you're near there and either want to group up or show me Guk ain't so bad.

Tips for negotiation of Innothule and Guk

Firstly going into Guk below level 10 is simply suicide, to do it alone is insane. You might get lucky and only get attacked by the first roomfull of Frogs. Guk is mostly tunnels so the larger races will have problems moving around each other and getting past an ogre sitting in the entrance.

Recommend at least 1 tank 1 spell caster and 2 of any class will help, average level of 14->17 Upper Guk, 18->24 Lower Guk.

Secondly after level 12 killing frogs in the swamp outside Guk is an easy way to make money, nearly every frog carries about 3 silver and an item that can be sold for a few gold. Effort to Profit ratio is very good.

Paladins, have to mention them, they roam around the entrance to Guk in the swamp, usually only one or two at most. Can be a bit of a nightmare for Evil races if your under level 10.

Also had my first encounter with the Froglok Outlander in the swamp, very tough, recommended course of action for <19 run.

The shadow men in the middle of the swamp are definetly to be avoided until higher levels.

Overall, moderate for leveling, good for money.
