Named for the natural geysers and springs found in its rocky peaks, these mountains surround the gnome city of Ak'Anon.

It is known that the dragons had once dwelled here, for the fossilized remains of very young dragon can be viewed inside a small valley. The presence of Steamfont's drakes also indicates that the region may once have had some greater significance to the children of Veeshan. However, that history was lost long before the arrival of the elves or the surfacing of the gnomes.

The mountains of Steamfont are bordered by the Lesser Faydark to the east, and the gates to the glorious subterranean city of Ak'Anon to the far west - gates installed safely within a mountain face and heavily guarded by some of Ak'Anon's most renown warriors.

Whizzlebang Twempt can be found at between the zone lines for LP and DSH.

Found him this morning and here's the info i got from him.

"Hail Whizzlebang Twemp"

Well Well! you look foolish... er... Strong and Powerful! What would you say to a business [proposition]?

"what proposition?"

Well it's simple enough <name>. Being the observant <race> i know you are, I'm sure you've noticed the large floating contraption in this area! That monstrosity must be dealt with and the Ak'anon Strike Force is on the [job]!

"what job?"

It's clear to us in the ASF that we must fight clockwork with clockwork. That's why we are proud to have constructed our I.R.A. to deal with the upstart Maldrath. Once we have worked out the, er, [kinks] we'll be able to swiftly deal with this situation!

"what kinks?'

Well, with any ambitious project there are bound to be problems to overcome! Surely you know that! Actually, <name>, that's why i am so glad you stopped by! You see, we need some help with a few easy [tests]. If you are [interested], i assure you that you and any friends you bring along will be richly rewarded.

"What tests?"

It's quite simple. The I.R.A. is our Infinitely Regenerative Automaton. Designed and constructed to be an unstopable and destructive force, I.R.A will recover from any defeat and return stronger and stronger! All we need now are a few practice runs. Are you [interested]?

"I am interested"

Excellent <name>! Please let me know when you are [ready] and i will transport you to our secret testing facility. Good luck and we assure that your next of kin will be contacted in the event that anything unexpected might occur while you are assisting with our testing!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring a raid force, sounds like this event will be fun, think this quest NPC is lvl 80, he coned yellow to me at 79. Gonna come back with raid force later tonight and try this new thing out. This is the first Raid event for EQ's Living Legacy and is in effect from 6-9-08 thru 6-15-08 (at least for now)

Steamfont Event on Test Server??
# Apr 27 2004 at 2:56 PM Rating: Good
OK. First of all, I am a level 12 NON-TWINKED necro on Test Server. Yes I know about /testbuff, but that would be twinking. Anyway, I log on to collect more yellow recluse silks in Steamfont to complete the newbie armor, and I hear a crier stating the Eldrich Collective is launching an attack on Meldath the Malignant. This sounds interesting, so I follow the NPC’s running from Ak’Anon to the area in front of the Minotaur Caves.

WOAH!! There are two armies on either side of the area. There must be 50+ guys on each side and more keep coming. Eldrich summoners, champions, and others. Other side has Malignant firecallers, death warriors, and the like. The battle begins and everybody is killing everybody. I’m like HOLY S**T!!!

Everyone is indifferent to me and no one is attacking me. So I take my level 12 butt onto the field and try to loot a corpse. I find this:

Corrupted Crystal of Decay (Augmentation)
HP: +25 MANA: +25 Endurance: +25
Recommended level of 65

I then screamed in joy like a little girl on Christmas morning!! W00T!! I then proceed to loot like crazy. At some point, my summoned skellie pet must have attacked something because I started gaining experience. Double W00T!! After looting like mad for 15-20 minutes something finally smacks me and I die. So I pull out my black ceremonial coffin from the bank and call my corpse. I go buy another coffin, throw it in the bank, and head back out. All the corpses are gone and the battle is over. Sigh. On the plus side, I got like 2 yellow in experience after dying, and check out the phat lewt!! It’s all Magic Item, Lore Item, and No Drop. None of it is on Allakhazam, so I will be sending in screenshots soon.

Best part of zone
# Jun 20 2003 at 10:26 PM Rating: Decent
I have not seen anyone mention the best part about this zone yet. In that pit thing, near the druid rings, spawn little lvl 2 infected rats that drop plague rat tails about 1 out of 3 times. The tails sells for about 1.5 plat, which is nice at lvl 2 8D. also, the kobolds often dropped regular 6 slot backpacks, like the ones merchants sell for 5ish gold each (although i dont see it on any of the kobold's drop lists, but trust me, they do). ALSO, the kobolds (at the time this is posted) drop furs, which sell for about 7 gold each and fangs, which sell for about 3 gold each if i remember correctly. i think that makes this one of the best noob zones for loot, but thats just IMHO

It is a magic item but does nothing. What is it used for? It's not listed in any gnomish or tinkering recipes that I have found nor is it in this sites database. Anybody have a clue. Merchants will buy it though. Cant remember the exact price though, maybe around 4 gold or something.

Any info would be appreciated.

Iron Oxide open market pricing
# Jun 11 2002 at 12:27 PM Rating: Decent
ok folks -

I don't think I've gotten an honest answer while playing the game go here goes:

Anyone know the 'market' value of Iron Oxide's that drop off the elementals ?

Apparently pottery and smithing folks need them - and they are 'rare' drops.

Even a ballpark idea would be helpful..
thanks
RE: Iron Oxide open market pricing
# Aug 23 2003 at 7:30 AM Rating: Decent
Im not sure on the price people will pay. but on Kane Bayle they are asking for 10pp a piece. Whether he got it or not is another story however. Also they arnt that rare if you know where to look. 1 russet okide and 1 iron oxide spawn on the ground behind two different machines near the min caves. I dont know how long it takes to respawn however. Im a little out of date on the prices as well. It has been about two months since i saw that price but it might help to give you an idea.

Old posts. But... as a tradeskiller, with a decent bank account, I know that sometimes I need this stuff.

I have tried to collect it myself, and it takes a while and is boring, so personally I pay anywhere from 50-100pp if I want it quick.

Basically, just see if anyone is selling, if you're the only one, you can mark it up because eventually someone will need it, and not want to go spend 30-45 minutes trying to get it.

If there's a lot selling it, and it's 10pp, go ahead and set yours at 10pp too, because that is a fair price.

It's just sometimes when you are the only one there selling a particular item, you can reap the benefits of impatient players like myself.

I was playing an alt and wandering around Steamfont when I came accross 4 NPC's standing around, thinking they were the ones that droped the pages for the casters book I killed them quickly, but all they droped where these weird weapons:
Jibble's Stelleto
Vyntok's Mace
Domlix's Short Sword
Winex's Staff
Faeroneliop's Staff

What the heck are these? Some new quest or were they put in for the PvP servers? All are no drop and they got newbie stats.

Revamped steamfront on test server
# Apr 26 2002 at 5:49 AM Rating: Decent
just wanted to say on test server they redone the steamfront mountains for the newbie armor quests. they added 4 more kobald camps and a second minatour slavers camp. also a bunch of new critters to liven thing up..overall its not too bad.. only real bad part is that they added a few too many aggressive monsters(lvls 3-5) in the newbie area. Kobalds give pos faction to the gemcutters. and the evil gnomes have there own separate armor quests(just to make it tempting to play that evil gnome warrior)

I believe his name is Fendar Starpyre. have any of you seen him before? i tried asking him a number of questions like "how you doin'?" and "what's up with that smell that all old people seem to have in common?" and "give me money", anyway, he ignored me.

Best Newbie Zone??
# Oct 02 2001 at 9:40 PM Rating: Decent
Many Message boards have said this.

I surely hope not....

I'm still very new to this game. (only about 1 1/2 weeks) I have a 9th level Gnome Necro. I've played him pretty much solo here, only a few groups.

From level 1-4 it was pretty easy. The newbie zone in South East Corner with Druid ring to sell stuff is nice... Only certain death happens every now and again with an NPC Bugglegupp. She always seems to spawn on me when I'm resting. Even at level 9 she kills me if given 1/2 a chance.

Level 5-7 was alot harder. Not much that you can kill and still get exp. The Kobold camp real close to the newbie zone is nice.. Only Bugglegupp still pisses you off from time to time. By 7th the only guys you can get exp for and still take are about 1/2 the Kobolds that spawn and they are blue.

Finally you get to 8th. As a Necro I can finally take on yellows 1 at a time and kick thier buts. Skeletons and mino slavers are your prey. 2 places to really hunt. Near the Windmills and the Ancient Dragon Skeleton.

There are more skeletons in the North East corner.. But you are too small to hope to get through the Earth and Wind Elles, the young dragons and clockworks to get there saftly. Also there are 2 wandering bad boys out there. The Mino Hero and Orc Priest ( I think) Both will kill you on site.. maybe before then.

Back to the Skeles in the Dragon Skeles. You can only take 1 at a time. So hit the one on the dragon's mouth. He will be the only one to drag out to you. Problem. Slow regen on him. and 3 monsters have a chance of regining. Mino Slaver (good), Skeleton (very good) and a gnome skeleton (bad, no money, no exp) then you gotta wait forever for the next regen. The plus is that both the mino slavers and skeletons are anywhere from yellow to blue. Also 2 times today a wandering NPC Freddi Doogie or something like that killed me for no reason. Just came up while I was medding and stomped the crap outta me.

Ok.. So now you try the Windmills. several monsters there. Skeletons, Pumas (dangerous), Young Dragons (dangerous), Plague rats (very dangerous) and a Female Rat (extreamly dangerous). Skeletons and Pumas you can take prolly waisting most of your mana. Only big problem is that plague rats and the Female rat will gang up with anything on you. You will get plauged and the female rat hits really really hard for a rat. Run for the Windmills if you get in trouble. At least that is what everyone says.. There is an NPC that will kill all the monsters that come near the windmills..

NOT!!!! count on him to kill all the ones that you feared or got on the run (so you get no exp) and count on him to stand off and laugh at you while you die running circles around the Windmills.

Up to level 10 there are aprox 4 sure fire deaths that wander around, (Bugglegupp, Freddie Doogie, Mino Hero, and the Orc Priest). An unreliable guard at the Windills, Halv the next closest guard is camped so he is no help (I don't complain about that too much the killers let me loot him so I got alot of money. laugh).

Well all I can say is that for me, this zone has been full of death. My corpses have littered nearly every part of this zone. Of course I know I'm still new and not a very good player, but I tell all you wouldbe gnomes to becareful here and walk softly and quickly.

Hope this helps,

Mikben

Get to Level 40 or so to take your revenge on this sadistic creep. Or a couple of the other guards...killing guards is rotten then add the whole gnome factor, its a wonder I can sleep at night.

Hobe Kenobee
# Jul 16 2001 at 10:56 PM Rating: Decent
Hey my name is Hobe im a druid. one thing over looked by this zone is that it is not a noobie zone. you can lvl 30-40 here fast if you have a soloing class, druid/necro/mage/wiz/shaman 34+. once you hit 30 go to the city gates there is a guy called cargo clocwork outside a hut pull him kill him do whatever he is alwasy 30 but is a bit of an overcon as he has 900hp and i know that green mountain giants at this point have 1k+ kill him till 34ish no faction hits just easy kills. then you can kill the guards halv in particular as they are in the middle of feilds with no freinds and good for kiting class. you can kill him and his chums up to 40. decent loot as they drop a FS sword each time some cash and commonly cruddy armour words/runes.

I was just wondering how the minotaur caves are. I've been planning for a trip to Steamfont and was thinking about hunting there. So, what lvl are the minos?

Be very careful in the caves... The slavers are in the teens, but there is also a Mino Lord who pops at the wheelbarrow, and he's about 25. Don't go too deep, or you'll run into Meldrath the Malignant, mean little gnome Necro who is about level 35 with a pet, too.
If you do decide to kill slavers for exp, send an /ooc to everyone hunting the Hero, as killing slavers pops the Hero. They (me included) will certainly appreciate any who will pop him for them...
Also, if no one is huting the Hero, when he spawns, he then walks around behind the giant gear, and then into the entrance to the caves, so if you then try to leave, you will surely run into him. He is level 35... Good Luck!
