The Accursed Temple of Cazic Thule sits in the southern portion of the Feerrott. Dwelling within its boundaries are a whole host of lizardmen worshippers and various aggressive species ranging from spiders, raptors, and giant mosquitoes to bubbling oozes, gorillas, and greenblood piranhas -- all of which fiercely protect the temple grounds.

Soe has changed this zone to lvl 85! A mob will kill you soon as you pop into the zone if you are not prepared. Mob hits for around 1700 points per strike. I was unaware of the change and went in with my 61 beast, I was dead when I got there!

Dear SoE,

Stop *$%*ing with classic, old zones!!!
Leave them be for those of us who wish to visit them and
remember them just the way they were.
If you want to do something new, add a zone into one of your
new cookie cutter expansions and leave classic EQ alone.
By the way, can we have the original commonland, lava storm, nektulos, highpass, desert of ro, oasis, and innothule zones back to the way they were?
Thank you.

Just figured I would let everyone know, don't bother wasting your time with the Avatar of Fear event. The items might be the best for a lvl 51, but the event is buggier than hell. I've attempted it twice now and each time I get to the point when the other avatars start popping after the waves and everything decides to poof on me, despite my killing all the mobs before the AoFear even makes a full circle. I couldn't even engage the avatars or anything either. Hopefully sony fixes this event though.

Hot Zone?....Not really
# Apr 09 2007 at 6:54 AM Rating: Default
I can't see how this is a hot zone when I was getting the same amount of exp kiting flies and rats in PoD.

Myself (55 nec), my brother (57 nec & 53 shm), and guildie (63 shd) went here last night killing mobs at zone in and courtyard. All mobs were db to me and I was getting 1 blue tick exp per kill, the same amount I was getting killing lb flies in PoD. There is no way I could solo the lizards in CT, they would eat my pet and then me and still be hungry. This zone is way too hard and the risk is not worth the mediocre reward. So if any of you are wondering why GE is more popular, come to CT and you will see.

Where is a good place to go after you clear the entrance? We went through a random door and ended up down in the slime pits. Any rhyme or reason there? We got the named Mosquito once, but is there some better direction to where you can go? Most mobs were light blue cons to 64. How do you get to the tougher mobs?

repyling almost a year later!

from the entrance, there's lots of places to go. to the right through the maze is the Pyramid, where you can pull the Jungle Hunter PH (its a roaming spider to the left, if you have your back to the zone wall, facing the pyramid with the gnome perched on top), try for single pulls from the ring of lizards to the right, and the temple with the miniature avatar and the five spawn in front of it, to the left.
to the left of the entrance is a door which leads two places. inside and to the right, is the Throne Room. there's 3 wanderers in the yard outside with 4 or 5 static spawns. inside is the throne, and a good camp immediately to the left and in the corner next to the tiny hallway. or you can go through to the door to the right of the throne, which leads to some stairs leading up. go up both flights of stairs and you'll find two static spawns, guarding an empty circle-hallway. both of these are placeholders... and inside and to the left of the doorway, is a long empty hallway which leads to the back of the sewers - the hidden entrance. this is much better for camping the Lifesapper Mosquito, since he can roam in the first pool you come across.
also in the main area outside the entrance is a double-doorway. through that, take a right, follow the hallway to the left and you'll find a room with a jail - this is where the Tae Ew Guard spawns. keep heading down this hall to find the circular grove of raptors. keep going further to find a mud temple with roamers, several static spawns, and an entrance to the below-area - this somehow feeds back into the sewers.
finally, there's 4C. go through the maze to the pyramid, and with your back to the pyramid and facing the zone wall, go left, past two spiders, take a right to find 3 lizards, take another right along a corridor and you'll find a big temple. lots of roamers here. each camp of 3 lizards at the 4C temple has a particular named. inside the 4C is a lot of thul tae ews, some enraged amygdalans (rather tough, these) and at the top, the thulian high ritualist, which drops a quest item, along with a gangplank leading to the sewers.

Description:

Located off the southern end of The Feerrott, Cazic-Thule was home to low-to-midlevel lizardmen. In early 2002, it became cursed as an army of high level lizardmen, gorillas, raptors, and spiders took over. Everything is immune to charm, and very few creatures see invisibility. One of the more popular draws to Cazic-Thule would be the Ring of Slime.

Back in 2002 some of this stuff would have been pretty decent. Don't think they've touched this zone since revamp other than to make it a hotzone with a couple new mobs.

People used to invis while zoning in, only so the tentacles wouldnt agro and domino everything to the raid while they ran to the wall.

Well, I just left this zone tonight and I'll tell you, OUCH!!

For starters, I zoom my camera out to see who's coming up behind me and the mobs at the entrance do something to it quite often. The angle of the camera change all over the place.

Second, they change the image of all the toons in the area. I was fighting myself much of the time...LOL

Third, I beat on one mob (LB) for a good 20 minutes and only took 5% off him. He took 80% off me. I know I need to work on my AA's, so that's part of my problem.

Forth, when I did finaly get him down to 50%, 3 of his buddies jumped my cleric when I was only using HoT

The constant view changes, very little impact on there HP, and the constant aggro of my cleric made this zone a little harder than I thought for my level.

Oh, and my group killed five mobs and I only got 2 blue ticks of XP.

Ok this zone has been ramped up a bit since it was first created...I'm not entirely sure the highest thing in there is 60 either....maybe 65. There are some dark blues in there that appear awfully dark blue to me. My paci would hit them so they could be 65 or lower...but I think they are over 60.

Since someone asked, I don't think an untwinked person in his low 50's could solo here. Been a while since I played a true soloing class so I could be on crack. It's mana intensive on my canned caster though....

Everything I've found so far can be pacified, stunned, mezzed (took a chanter for backup once), and slowed. However, the stuff in there hits very hard and very fast and they have a LOT of hp (even the casters have more than you'd think). They can *all* summon, and most of the casters will gate if given half a chance. At least half the casters are healer types as well and there's often 2 or 3 in a knot which makes taking them out before one heals the other and vice versa a pain. Towards the back you got necro types and they will happily fear you and send you to your death in a pile of adds if you let them. LOTS of stuff in there sees invis so don't think you can just bop along to anywhere specific.

They hit very fast and seem to hit hard enough to stun you a LOT which is more dangerous than the actual damage they do, especially if the bulk of your dps comes from spells and you don't have a pet *pout*. They also hit easily for an average of 120 or so on my 70 cleric with 1400 or so ac and some avoidance aa's. That adds up fast if they are unslowed because they quad and double like crazy. I suspect some of the dark blue ones can enrage though I never saw a message for it and I *know* at least a couple in there flurry...not sure if anything rampages as I was soloing when I got pwned by adds :)

The zone is an absolute maze and it repops rather quickly. For all that though, it can be a fun zone. There are a couple of interesting quests in here and it *is* an outdoor zone so you can use all those snazzy outdoor only spells. You can even be on a horse if you are shrunken enough to be able to move afterwards. There are some valuable tradeskill drops in here and some rare higher end research drops as well. The weapons and such that drop are for the most part vendor/tribute fodder.

Since the revamp, it would be tough.
However, if your AC is good, you can sit around the mobs at zone-in / courtyard. I wouldn't try going much deeper.

I've simply got a question about whether or not this would be possible. I'd like to go to this zone and camp some barbed rubicite pauldrons. Can this be done by a 3-man group consisting of 63 druid, 65 beastlord, and 58 cleric? My basic plan is to zone in at the port area using the lizard blood potions, make our way through the northeast section of the maze to the pyramid, use harmony of nature on the possible adds, and pull the spiritcaller/PH with a no damage aggro spell (such as a resist debuff). Beastlord can slow quite well, and all 3 of us have good resist gear plus we'd have the ability to boost our resists with buffs. If anybody thinks this couldn't be possible, would the addition of a 65 Bard to the group change that, in your opinion? Also, does anybody know an approximate respawn time on the mobs at the pyramid? Thank you very much for any input you can offer.

RE: Question
# Jun 01 2004 at 5:47 AM Rating: Good
Ok, first off, lizard blood potions are hard to get hold of, so just take the Oggok book and run to the zone. There are two spots between the zone and 4c entrance where there can be see invis mobs: just inside the first door, above, behind, and to the right, the lizard at the top of the ladder can be a tae ew aggressor...crappy loot, not worth killing, but if you have to, you can hug the left wall as you come in, go up the left ladder and back through the door till you come around behind the aggressor, where you can pull him single easily. Then as you enter maze and head to 4c there's a little room with stone columns and two spiders: the southernmost one can be a large hunter or a named spider, both of which see invis...all spiders are gimp, so you could take both of them if you had to. As you enter 4c, the bottom two mobs never see invis, and the mobs who roam the floor never see invis (except Terrorclaw on the north side), but all other spots could be see invis.

Here's how I break into 4c...adjust tactics as necessary for your group. I have somebody pac/lull one of the bottom guards, split em and kill em. Then I get invis, look up the stairs and click where the mob is at the top, and con it to see if it sees invis. If neither top door guard sees invis, I have someone pac them both, then I get invis, go up, and pull something down. Perhaps 6ish total mobs roam past there - I've never counted - plus the bottom two guards, plus the top two guards. Once it's clear or clear enough, I have everyone move up. We use wake of tranquility on the corners when possible- it's faster and easier than single pac. I have someone wake the first corner on the left, then I hug the inside wall around the corner till I'm on the west side. Kill the roaming raptor. Kill at least the middle mob in the first corner, ph for the adept. Wake the next corner (no named spawn there), pull the north side raptor past them to west side (can respawn as Terrorclaw). Carefully get around the corner and try to pull the first thul inside the pyramid (ph for spirtcaller, aka Two Pauldrons McGee).

At this point you can move up inside the pyramid, first floor, west side, and camp there. If you are smart and watch where mobs roam you can hold the camp easily with 3 people. As a special bonus, the west side thul on the second level is ph for the torturer, aka Two Earrings McGillicuddy, and the middle thul in the 3rd or NE corner on the floor is ph for a thul tae ew ritualist (Not a tae ew ritualist! Not a thulian high ritualist!). If you feel like life on the edge you could go up to the top and camp the enraged amygdalan for his mask...the westernmost amygdalan protector is his ph...enraged and maybe normal amygdalans are immune to magic and have hella ac, and come in pairs unless you pac. Anywhere in 4c is a nasty CR, so be careful. Respawn on all non-event mobs in CT is 19.5 minutes. Somebody needs a strong cure disease spell for the aoe slow (Bane of Thule) - pure blood or counteract disease cure it in one cast. Many mobs in 4c enrage. I like swords.

One tactic I've heard of but not tried is getting lev and running up the sides of walls into the pyramid. You could hold the camp for sure if you got up in the pyramid, but getting there safely would be tough. It might be possible with those three if you all knew what you were doing, but adding the bard would probably be necessary, as there are hordes of hostile lizards running around hasted at sow speed doing aoe slow, aoe poison, snare, lifetap, cheal, and telling you what they plan to do with your soul after they rip your heart out.

I've been here so many times I can tell you almost anything about any mob in 4c. If I listed it all here it would be a book, so send me a tell sometime.

Where is the best place to farm for Flawless Tae Ew hides and what mobs should I look for? I have a 65 Monk and Druid that I would like to farm hides with to make the monk some light WR bags.

I am assuming the hides drop off some type of Tae Ew guys, but there are several different types of "Tae Ew" mobs in different locations, and Im still not sure which I need or where would be the best place to farm.

I might take a few more with me sometimes, but would like to be able to farm duo as well. Any suggestions?

They are supposed to drop off of any of the lizards. Also, they're called Hardened Lizard Hides. Not sure if it was just a typo originally, but I've seen them and those are the hides you're looking for.

I've been told the best drop rate is in the throne room but they've been seen to drop all the way at the entrance (Unconfirmed on that last part).

Crowd control can be an issue in CT, but for the most part I don't think you'd have much trouble.

As for drops, research items, and items for Tae Ew armor. There are a few very nice and rare items deeper in as well.

This zone seems bugged. Fish attacking at entry is not normal imo. Few months back some fish also attacked at entry and warped ppl to places they rather didnt want to be. I hoped they fixed it by now but still seems to be bugged.
On way to sewers we got attacked by fishes also which never happened to me before when invis. Had a tough cr and i think those fishes bugged too unless they see invis. Tried to check. All seemed to be indiff and still suddenly found myself under attack and dying fast. After all got rezzed we decided to leave this bugged place behind and never get back there. Sad cause it used to be one of the fun places.

They basically took out more than half our raid of 24 52-65 people, nost of the tanks went down fast, and my wizard died in less than 5 seconds, while having 2.5k hps.

As of last night (this morning 07-05-03) this was still buggy. Upon zoning in there were 5 Large Green Pihrana and 1 Large Green Pihrana just a few steps in from the entrance, in a corner. The Good news is they were not in water, and thus not able to swim at us... Merely sit there and take anything we cast on them. The BAD NEWS, however has several parts. 1) They were healing anything else we pulled to the zone line. 2) They have a lot of hitpoints. 3) If you got too close to them, they could kill you almost instantly because they do so much damage. 4) And this is the big anooying kicker. If you are casting on them, for some reason they totally ignore you. That sounds like a good thing, right? To a degree... But the problem is you get no aggro. Meaning they regenerate their health points at the rate of a non-aggroed mob. I don't know the exact numbers, but this was somewhere around 5% per tick. My best current DD spell is only 600, and I can only cast it about every 2 ticks. 600 only knocked off 2% of their health. Meaning they were regening much faster than I was damaging. If it weren't for having an awesome casting group, we wouldnt have been able to kill them, and they would have kept healing anything we pulled. With some time, we broke them and they never respawned.
---Also, don't trust their con... They were showing "indifferent" to us, but would still sometimes attack us.

I have to say this is one of the strangest bugs I have heard of. I have only fought there for a couple of weeks, and then only at the entrance, but I can say that I have not encountered this bug on Xev. Could someone on the bugged servers affirm that it is fixed there as well?

Hail, I've been hunting in this zone ever sense it was a Newb zone, and now as a high lvl dungeon.
The best way to do the mobs here is simple. Sense the mobs are so close and hard to mezz, the best way to do it is have a Ranger or Druid in your group. Have them HARMONY, it works beutifully, also dont come here without a shaman for slows.

Um thats the way NBG works. If People in the party like that rogue for instance already have the item then it is rolled for by everyone else.

Can anybody explain to me (list) what makes this zone so hard? They are like level 55-60 mobs. Nothing a level 60 group shouldn't be able to handle, so whats the problem? High aggro range? fast respawn? hard to single pull? that kinda stuff?

I read most mobs can't be mezzzed, but we do Kael Arena no problem (even the level 66 stuff) and none of that can be mezzed.

If you have any info, please let me know. I want to take my guild there and would hate to get us all killed ;-)

What makes this zone so hard?

Several things: Mobs are close together, so it's hard to get a single pull. Several mobs (lifedrinkers and bloodcallers) proc or cast an AE damage spell, that does 350 damage. One of them procs/casts an AE DoT that is something like 30hp/tick AND a slow (Bane of Thule).

The lizards have a lot of hp, and moderately high AC, as well. Damage output tends lower than in other places, because of high mob AC.

Most of the mobs CAN be mezzed, if your enchanter is high enough level. Some people can do this zone pretty thoroughly with one group. If you have a 60+ enchanter, a 60+ shaman, a 60+ tank, a cleric and two damage classes, you probably can go anywhere you want to in here, as long as you're careful.

Take a group there and find out is the best advice I can offer.

In my experience, the MoBs are closer together and have a faster respawn rate than in Kael. You often end up finging small groups. Yes, many are mezzable, but it's still a bit of a race against the clock to get all the mobs dead before they start respawning or beforer you run low on mana.

Toss in a few casters for good measure and you've got yourself a pretty challenging zone.

Anyone know how deep into CT the Tae Ew Bloodfiend spawns? Would it require a single group or something larger like a full blown raid to get near that area?

It's not too far in. You take a right in the courtyard and it's in the southern area of the maze, in the room with pots.

If you're 65+ you can possibly solo this camp. The hard part is that it starts out with 3 mobs and you have to break the camp. With a 70 enchanter and 63 cleric it was an easy camp though. I would say a group of 60+ would not have too much trouble with this camp.

Anyone have info on the ring of slime? I am interested in getting this together for my guild but have found little info on it. I would need to know 1) how to trigger it 2) approximate number of people (easily I can swing 30 58+ for this). Plus I am sure there is more info I need but I cannot think of right now :)

Thanks tons for your help.

Ring of slime is crucial. Has one million hps. Takes over 30 lvl 57+ people to take it down. I know of a guild that can take it down with 14. This is all I know, anybody who knows how to beat the ring of slime WILL NOT tell you how to do it. Goodluck

With the items that are now dropping in CT, much better than Fear, you would think that Fear would be getting another upgrade.

Why would Cazic let the denizens of CT have better equipment than the disciples and guardians of Fear itself?
CT experiance
# Mar 17 2002 at 6:11 PM Rating: Good
My guild did this zone the other day with about 30 poeple. Now the zone is alot tougher than it was I garuantee it. but it just wasnt designed for a raid type encounter for any decently equipped guild, most of the zone was not much of a challenge. The exception would be the Ring of Cazic Event, in the AoF's old room. We cleared our way down there without incident and frankly feeling overconfident. The guild was wiped out. 30 some odd, level 60 poeple, with Velious Armor and Sleepers Tomb Weapons. All killed within 2 minutes. the genereal opinion is that this, like all Ring events ths far, was much too dificult to be seriously considered. The only way I can see to beat this event would be to Zerg and Rez (thank you once again verant) with 50+ poeple. And anyone whos ever been in CT will realize, the zone wont support 50 poeple without all but shutting down with lag, much less this one room.

Ring of Cazic event isn't as difficult as the above poster is making it sound. If they wiped that fast with that raid force, I KNOW that they missed one of the important parts of that event. All I will say is - you may find help you don't expect close by... ;)

Everything (mobs, etc) that were once in the temple of CT have now been moved to the Feerrott. Essentially, CT moved back in and just kicked everyone out, so all mobs that carried items for quests, etc, are now found wandering the Feerrott near their old home...

This really makes the "Cazic Gate" and "Cazic Portal" spells sorta useles for younger wizards now. Gone now are the days of porting to Cazic to run to RM or Guk for all our Bretheren/Sisteren in their 20s and 30s. I wonder if VI has any plans to change those to higher level spells? Or maybe, even give wizzies a new port pad in Feerott.

Just a thought.

Actualy with the proposed changes to the wizards evacuate line (making them available to lower levels) the Cazic/Feeerot transfer is safer than ever. Porting into Cazic ive noticed there are no more wanderers. The pad is for intents and purposes safer than the zone in, and hopefully soon low level wizards will be able to Evac from the pad to the zone. Making the trip to feerot and our entire access point for the southern regions, easy and safe.

WOW ! talk about a tough zone! My guild made some xp here last night. It wasnt easy for us though. We didnt get anywhere near the areas where the goodies drop before we realized that a guild wipeout was just around the corner. It wasnt cold feet that made us turn port out. Just better judgement than we had going in. Nothing dropped for us but plat, and that was scarce too.
I know the layout of CT well and it wont be easy to get the rare uberloot I can only imagine that might drop here.
Cazic Thule is a cool looking zone. Too bad alot of people will not be able to enjoy it until their late 50s now. Sill, I'm kinda glad they revamped this zone. People stopped coming here even though xp was still nice. It makes me wonder if Permafrost is next on the Verant zone hitlist.

Well, I hope they changed some other things as well, like what you can get out of going into Cazic. If they didn't then it is barely worth the time of a 60th level group. Getting the cloak for the runescale cloak quest was enough of a difficulty before... I sincerely hope they don't do this kind of thing to all the low level dungeons/inside areas though I do understand the need for more high level stuff so that all the 50+ people don't get crowded into just a few areas.

One thing that was working for the shadowknight hunting for darkforge pieces before is that they could sense dead, and since the only undead in CT were the pets of the SK mobs they were easy to locate.

The lizards outside now don't summon pets so they're not so easy to find...that and the fact that outside of CT is the choice place to PL people it seems nowdays.

Still, for lower level groups the pyrmids outside will be gold for the right levels...just have a druid/ranger harmony them, and pull em.

Crusaders do spawn outside now on the island. They seem to be a random spawn anywhere on the island. I know for certain that they can spawn at the top of the main Cazic Thule ramp.

Yes the crusaders pop outside the temple now. I picked up 3 pieces Saturday night. Not very hard at all. In fact I believe it's easier because you don't have to worry about agro like you did inside. Although it took forever to get them to spawn. I believe the spawn is random on the island, but had two pop simultaniously at the foot of the ramp.

No more wizzy shortcuts there. Mobs apparently the same however seriously upgraded levels. Heading down to check out later hope there is loot!!! "

"Well I checked it out, Cazic is a nightmare. The low level mobs in the zone start about at level 55. Every lizard is unmezzable using both dazzle and glamour. This place makes umbral look easy. Most mobs summon as well. Dungeon is undoable unless you consider 30 levels 60's at the zone a good time."

"They have random pops as well, enoute a message came across that a large yellow spider had come down from the forest canopy, Perhaps it sensed food nearby.... Damn thing jumped me crossing bridge, hit for 200+ and snared. Needless to say it was a short battle. "

Went to Cazic last night to check out the "changes" they made and see what, if anything, I could still hunt there. I was with 2 50+ guildies (i'm 43 Ranger) so i thought i was relatively safe to go in and look around....just at the courtyard.
I get in there, pull up my tracking and EVERYTHING was red to me...the only blue thing in there was something's PET. Just as I was getting done being amazed, I notice there was a message sitting at the bottom of my chat box that read, "You feel yourself starting to appear." Must have been there for a bit cuz as soon as i noticed it, i appeared and was immediately hit for 205, 123, 205, 205, 169, 59. 205, 130, LOADING PLEASE WAIT. No exaggeration, it only took me 4 seconds to die.

And with the old mobs of CT hanging around OUTSIDE the zone in the Feerot, the Ogres have more or less lost half their newb zone. Unless this is an event of some sort, Cazic Thule is forever changed....my guess is 55+ groups.

I am a paladin and have found Cazic a very good place to solo. I have moved through from lvl 27-30 (almost) in very quick time. I find this zone great for plat and xp at this level and have not died once, too scared of the cr :). I have used lay hands only once, and it was on a lvl 25 ogre warrior I was partnering at the time. IMO and soloing in this zone is safe if you are smart and very profitable. This could be a great place for a pure healer type, as there are always Ogre warriors around for some good damage outlay.

Although having to pay ogres to bank and sell for you sucks some major ass

This is by far my favorite zone in the game. Hands down, no comparison.

People generally only hate this zone for one reason: They die a lot. This usually happens because they get into bad groups and get killed a lot. Hey, I can't blame them for hating it when you get killed every 5 minutes. You tend to hate the zone and not go back.

But let me tell ya, this is a great zone, and possibly the best zone in the game for level 20-35. I spent level 24-37 here and did all of those levels in 3 real time weeks, and I did not play all day like some people do. I work, so I only played when I got off work, from about 6 to midnight.

Anyway, I could say all kinds of things about how great this zone is, but I think I'll just post a link to my guide when it's finished. This zone is really underutilized...
