Mammoths, polar bears, and dire wolves roam Icefall Glacier, a snowy area which leads to the giant city of Valdeholm. There are also several factions which are rather combative with one another here. They are the Nightmoon kobolds, Frostbite goblins, and Coldeye orcs, each faction with their own beliefs and agendas.

Nearly hidden in the East is a steep canyon, opening the way to a valley of Frostbite goblins and massive ice golems. These particular goblins have managed to do what many would not even attempt -- the capture of a Wraithguard giant. Also nearby is one of the stronger ice golems, Avalanche, who should not be approached without the aid of a full raid of allies.

Travelling this area isn't too risky, assuming you have invisibililty. You would, however, be advised to get where you need to go quickly, and not to dawdle around. Otherwise, you just may wind up as a meal for one of the many aggressive wandering creatures.

Profitable place to grind at 70

If you are an enchanter, this is a great place to solo once you get Coax at level 72. If you have iron guts, you can do it at level 70 with True Name. You sill be limited to charming only the 69 mobs while attacking 70s which doesn't always work out... You take the left hand side of the glacier and farm the ice goblins near Snowblind. You might not be able to use a merc unless you got the All Access tank reward and have some points invested in them. The Kobold gets destroyed. All is not lost though because you can use the two-for-one strategy meaning you charm a goblin, pull a goblin, then help or impede the pet so it's HP is just above alive when the targeted mob dies. Then you invis to break charm and the mobs will walk away if they are low enough on HP. A nuke or two will finish them off. Double experience.

Some of them dump as much as 45 plat per kill as well as the Elaborate Defiant plate set and gems. You could probably make 3-4k pp per session if you sold everything. At least 2k just from platinum drops. Takes a while to XP solo at this level, but you can at least see the bar moving and not have to worry about being summoned. Just don't pull any from the middle or all of them will come including Snowblind. You should have The imp illusion up for levitate. If you pull the middle, just head up the south mountain and jump off toward the Steppes zone. You can float all the way there safely.

The mammoths are indifferent, but the wolves and polar bears are not. Travelling through the mammoth field, you will need to watch out for wolves. While on the glacier, watch out for polar bears. Every once in a while during the goblin grind a decent sized polar bear will spawn and walk through camp on the north side.

The kobolds north of the goblin camp are lower level, 66s but they don't drop much. You can use them as charm bait, but you will need to be heavy on the nukes to help them out as they rarely survive the fight. Sometimes a named kobold with two buddies in tow will spawn on the snowy hill north of the goblin camp adjacent to the lone goblin standing on the inner ledge.

You might be tempted to try the Coldeyes on the eastern side of the glacier. They don't drop much. Just get used to ice goblin casserole from 70-75.

I'm glad to see that SOE has finally decided to do something about the Wizards and Rangers ( and presumably) Bards, kiting 40-50 plus mobs in this zone. The zone would warp and lag so bad that it became unplayable. The result of this kind of multi-kiting was that it would render a pet class's pets useless...mobs would behave as if rooted in place ( theres the exploit)and the zone would periodically crash. ( 4 times in one week) Kudos for SOE...finally. I onl;y wish they could've revamped to the zone and not nerf the classes.....Sofee 74 Necro.....born Oct. 1999

This zone is great. as an old time player i grew up in Everfrost. i have missed teh action of Everfrost for years. but Icefall is very much like Everfrost. Mammoths roaming the plains that are fun to kill. bears, wolfs, goblins, orcs, spiders. i would recomend this spell to anyone who is 70+. you can get evry good exp from 70-75 and many mobs are 78 so when the new expansion comes out you should be able to get to 80 here. if your a druid or a ranger you have an edge here because most animals will like you. theres 2 sides when you zone in one is mammoths the otehr side is bears and wolfs. bears and wolfs like druids and rangers and mammoths liek everyone. if your a druid or a ranger you could pull a mammoth to the bear and wolf side and kill it without agro. any class could pull a bear or wolf to the mammoth side and kill it. but WARNING! there sometimes an elder dire wolf on the mammoth side or a named (Staler of the Plains) both animals like druids or rangers. at the wizzy port in there are elder mammoths that are at highest level 78. and DO NOT SUMMON. all mobs in this zone do not summon only the nameds do. the only named that does not summon is blueface the hoard. normally theres about 20-30 people here at peak time. there is much money to be made becase the icefall crawlers (spiders) drop the Rk2 spells. the RK1 shaman and beastlord spells are sold here. they are sold on the bear and wolf side far back. there is many quests here that you can pick up. also many quests from Valdeholm (giant city) involve Icefall. theres a great quest where if you loot 4 icefall grizzly hides (drop off of adult cave bear) you can get a wrist item with about 205HP and mana (all classes have a wrist item they can get) you can loot all the hides and then get the quest in Valdeholm. the main camps are the lake bears or the middle school as its called on some servers. the cave bears. and the spider camp. near the entrance to Valdeholm is the orc fort where unless you kill the kobalds. there is a named orc tarnuk farwalker who walks up and down the hil from teh orc fort to the mammoths he drops a few good sellable items and drops the chest molds for the many item quests given in crescent reach. again i would say this is one of the best zones i have ever hunted in. i find it a fun place and a place to get a good group. and to get some money from the RK2 spells. thankyou all for reading this. i hope you find this very usefull.

Dubious After An Eternity
# Apr 23 2007 at 10:11 AM Rating: Decent
After passing through a small fragment of eternity, I finally reached dubious. I killed kobolds through level 71 & 72. I'd say I dispatched about 250+ kobolds.

Very Grueling.

On the plus side I picked up a quest in the orc fortress that has not been posted on Alla yet. There are some quests that I cannot get to because they require a higher than dubious to get to.

I will send the information soon.

Quest is given by a giant in Valdeholm. Name is Wrathguard something Strongarm. Make a right after the bridge and go up to the second set of rooms OUTSIDE the main gate. Should be in first room on the right. Can't remember how many other giants in the room. Make sure you are dubious to the giants outside before venturing in. He gives out 2 quests 1. Runic Ivory: Collect 4 NO TRADE Ivory tusks from mammoths in Icefall. 2. Armour Supplies: Collect 4 NO TRADE Icefall Grizzly Hides in Icefall. And dont open the main gate bad things will happen =)

I ended up doing this 'IVORY' quest about 6-10 EXTRA times as i noticed that my leadership wraithgaurd was raising! By randomly picking the reward and then destroying it, after i had a pair of bracers to use till getting powersources for the TSS ancient leather pattern wrists i already have(stats are slightly better for the quest wrists UNTILL the tss pattern is tier 2 from tenish in CR). Tis enabled me to get , after an overnite spree of group killing and sharing the tusks among us, i was able to get the quest for the shield in Vladholm/Frostcrypt easy(must be above doubious faction Leadership Wraithgaurd for task #1) ..... HAESAGRIN Task#1 is quest, can look up in frostcrypt>>Zones>>quests In..... link: https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=3939
name of item is: BATTERED SHIELD OF THE FALLEN GUARD. https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=55180
Nice item and it seem fairly easy as i see many of them...GOOD LUCK.. GRIND AWAY!

If i ever get a few more overniters gathering ivory i may get faction above app and try the second and eventually 3rd quest from this series...looks fun!

Have just completed a second quest (solo), called Prized Leopard , it was from a Kobold in the kobold caves on the West wall , name of Verkorn . Basically what you have to do is kill a bunch of leopards , and hand in their hearts to verkorn , he will then give you a clicky item with an effect charm leopard , you use this item to steal the orc chiefs Pet , theres quite a war going on between the otcs and kobolds in this zone . reward is an All ALl item Totem of the Leopards Paw ; with a clicky effect Circle of the Stoic , the description for which says that it magically increases the mellee dmg of people in the surrounding area . have yet to test it . This same mob gives a quest for another totem called Charmed my Dear with an effect which increases spell damage ,starting that one now .

Any more info on doing the actual charming of his pet. I keep getting an emote saying that his pet is to strong for the charm. I tried snareing him than hitting the charm totem but that didnt work. He summoned a Orc Charmer once i engaged the Pet. DO i need to kill this charmer to free the pet to be charmed by me? Also, we got adds from the courtyard of the orc fort. Are they tethered to the Charmer or can this whole fight be done without haveing to clear the courtyard? Interesting quest, and the reward seems really cool, any info would be great thanks.

Ironfist's Pet can be charmed at 20% hp. After that, head back to the NPC from which you got the pet and Ironfist's Pet will slowly path to you. He then breaks charm and runs off without agroing you or anything else. Hail for completion =)

Quests
# Sep 21 2006 at 12:26 AM Rating: Decent
So far i have found 3 quests that result in Clicky item rewards in this zone , here is One , i will post the others after i finish them .

1) from Pack leader Orgak , Free The Wolves , time: Unlimited ,
Reward : Direwolf Totem of Battle ,
Magic/Lore/no Trade ,
Effect : Stoic Wolf Familiar (casting time 10), (recast time 5 secs) ,
recommended 70 , required 63
war pal rng shd mnk brd rog bst ber

this effect summons a stoic wolf pet which increases your double attack and regeneration

the quest requires you to find 3 dire wolf pups , they are located in the Kobold caves on the north end of the west wall , you must hand them a piece of meat that is given to you when you start this quest (by saying Meat to the quest giver) ,
as a bard i had no trouble runnin in , doing the hand in and fading , although sometimes the wolfs spawn in cages and these must be broken before handing in the meat , non FD classes will want to take a group most likely and clear the caves for hand in .
then you must kill 10 kobolds ( i kited these they do not summon ) and return to talk to the pack master . EASY !! pet looks like a black wolf , shammy pet style .

Mammoths

The mammoths take up a large part of zone just north of zone in. We spent lots of time farming them. Started at level 70 and dinged so you can do this at 70. The mammoths are not kos so makes it easy to pull the area. NPC goreman is kind of north and gives an easy xp task for mammoth meat. Many were yellow to me at 70, but some light blue and some red. All in all it was good xp and pretty easy. There are lots of quest npc's in this zone, but I was told that they don't have very great rewards.

While the spell vendors for shaman and beasties are surrounded by KOS mobs, they are easy to avoid. Invis and stand behind vendor; wait for wolves to path out of the way; and then buy from vendor. I had plenty of time to browse all the spell and buy the level 71s before the wolves pathed back. Alternatively, open the vendor window then have a buddy cast invis on you; then, you can browse at your leasure.
Icefall

This is one of the most likely zones for those who are at 71 to get exp in. Main targets will be the mammoths who con white thru red at 71. They hit slow but hard. The wolves in this zone hit very fast, and have an insane aggro and social help range.
