Ocean of Tears

This massive ocean separating Faydwer from Antonica is home to many creatures. There are sirens, goblins, spectres, seafury cyclopses, aviaks, and local pirates. The two main islands provide a bit of comfort with some vendors, an inn and Tunare-aligned wood elves.

Two popular attractions of the Oceans of Tears would be Allizewsaur and the Ancient Cyclops. Allizewsaur roams an island in the south while the Ancient Cyclops can be found east of Seafury island.

I came here trying to work a step in my SK 1.5 epic. The first dock in EFP proved frustrating as I never saw a boat, though I waited for 30min. Then I went to BBM and after a shorter wait a boat arrived. I got into OOT just fine except the boat was gone. No big deal. I ran to my NPC and hailed him but he wouldnt respond. Then I started getting attacked by mobs from the other side of the zone that were no where in sight. I decided to relog and try again. When I got to character selcet it showed my toon in Kernagir. Grinnng and cursing with my head titled like the dog from the old RCA logo I tried to log it in regardless and got disconnected. --- Possible Solution: When I rebooted the game I ran a Full Scan at Update screen. When I logged back in I was in OOT and the NPC responded appropriately by attacking me (all I wanted was a pepsi).

Individual results may vary. Consult you group leader before rebooting to use "Full Scan". "Full Scan" should not be used on conjunction with hammers, bricks, or computers used as projectiles. Side effects may include; loss of sleep, heightened sensitivity, and delusions of grandeur.

Druid ported out to Butcherblock mountains. when she got there she headed for the docks. Once you get to the docks you need to speak with Glorin Binfurr. She is a the busty dwarf on the pier on the right hand side. Hail her and she will give you a message..,"Keep your eye out for the ship. You don't want to miss it." In a few minutes the ship will appear and come to the dock..then it will take a minute or two before you zone to OoT.

Was needing to get to OOT and I noticed the translocators were gone in East Freeport, so I came here to see what's up. Found out about the boats, waited a few minutes, boat came and parked about a minute in front of the dock that has the ramp, than sped towards OOT zone. I was worried after reading everything here since my laptop is only par, but I zoned no problem. Only eventful thing is after I zoned I was in mid air and dropped and took 12 dmg from falling back on the boat. Didn't realize this is just like Buried Sea ship (travels very fast in zone) So I jumped ship after zone with lev and ran towards my mages spell merchant along the way could see the very ship that brought me to OOT racing at mac 3 back towards Freeport from BB. I should have stayed on the boat hehe. Anyways, after reading alot of the post I figured I'd update this just to update travelers

They came from all of the people that have tried loading in here just to get sent into an endless loop of frustration. This zone sucks since the change =( I dont care what anybody says.I use to come in here all the time with my main. This is really a bad zone...i cant even begin to describe just how hard its been trying to get into this zone and do ANYTHING at all. I just keep getting sent back and forth back and forth. Sometimes to east freeport, but mostly to ocean of tears back to oot back to oot get in...and no spells work..cant even gate...then get booted... to try and log in again and go through the same treatment again, and again so far...about to give this game up for a goner. got 7.2 years worth on this account but i dont need this kind of hassle or headache. been sitting here over an hour just trying to get my character able to do anything at all for himself but he is stuck in a loop and about to give up.BTW i tried to get here through the butcherblock boat.

Yeah, I hear you. I zoned my ranger from BBM to OOT, which took probably 5 minutes ... when I get through I'm in the water. I try to cast levitate on myself, and it grays out all my spell gems, and nothing else happens. I try to track for an island (since they broke the map), and I can't use that command while I'm casting ...

I log out, log back in, cast levitate, get to an island just in time to see Seaking take off without me. I try to track for it, and tracking shows nothing. I try once more to use Throne of the Heroes, and nothing happens. Log back out, log back in, use Throne, and unless I absolutely have to for some quest I am never coming back to this zone.

Considering that the boats ended up broken to begin with, and these are no better, it's kind of ridiculous that they put them back in (and they suck more than ever). Considering also that OoT saw hardly any traffic, it's stupid that they even considered revamping this zone -- there is nothing here that anyone needs unless it's for an epic quest, and yet they decided to put people to work in revamping this instead of countless other zones that are in dire need of it. But you know what, I'd rather they stop revamping zones and put the people who are working on stuff like that to work on something useful instead.

Boats, Is it me or is that just a crappy waste of EQ memory, and programming why the hell did they take the translocators out? People with slow zone in times will be dropped into the water, because the boat will pathe you. Friggen rediculous, put the abiltiy and / or NPC's back to also be able to zone into Ocean Of Tears or take the whole zone and remove it from EQ altogether and move the mobs to user friendly mobs. EQ is trying to put so much detail into thier games they are creating havoc on players with older computers. Patheing, Time outs, Zoneing issues, Laggy Spiked zones, it is alomst like they are forcing you to buy the best computers in the world to run this program..Save that crap for EQ II, and leave EQ alone. I liked it alot better when you knew where to go. Add new zones items and levels but delete some of the graphics like trees and crap, and take out some of the freaking training mobs that make everything so laggy.

I agree with your frustration. I used to love to hunt here. Several times I have zoned in to be stuck outside of the zone. I swim into an invisible wall and can not swim "into" the actual zone. I will just swim against the outside of the zone wall for ever. Succor, evac, or petition are required to get into.

That has not happened to me in a while, maybe it is fixed.

I also can not leave this zone without crashing. When I gate or boat out i will lock up every time. Wierd. I miss the translocaters but I would settle for a druid/wizard port. A new computer is out of reach for now Smiley: oyvey

First off, don't even both using EQatlas.com to find locations anymore.
Apparently, SOE felt the need to change this zone around (/shrug) and you should only use the map as a guide, but don't pay attention to the /loc.
The islands are all still there, but something was funny with the graphics on the hills and islands for me, as they kept alternating between red and the normal brownish.

I was coming here to camp the AC to get jboots and upon swimming there, I noticed a few things.
First the Aliszasaur (sp?) was up...not sure if it's b/c it pops when servers reset and no one comes here anymore, so it's still up..OR, maybe it was just dumb luck (if you want to call it that). I was swimming by the island (quite a ways out) and it aggroed, so I just swam and got away.
Second, the loc based on the eqatlas for the AC actually took me the the goblin island, where they added some undead skeleton pirates (RED and KOS to me at Lv 70), so I stayed away and luckily didn't aggro them (there were 4 or 5). They did NOT see through regular invis.
Lastly, when I got to the cyclops island, there were about 8-10 cyclops in a fairly close proximity (seemed like a lot), but one of them was the AC!!
I carefully killed one at a time until it was safe to pull him (they were all green to me, but I didn't want to get all on me at once).
Anyway, short trip and I got what I needed. Camped this back in 2002 or 2003 for 8 hrs and he never spawned...

Why does SoE or whoever feel the need to go
and muck up classic zones? i.e. commonlands, freeport,
nektulos to name a few.
They look uglier than homemade sin and they can cause
performance issues on user's computers. Such as the
new OoT does with mine.

I liked the zones the way I remember them and I don't
want to see them or anymore changed.

I hope they never change Faydark or anywhere else.

Leave the zones be!

I had the same problem today. Client Crashed trying to zone into Ocean of Tears from Butcherblock. (I’ve never actually been there before) I was using the WinEQ client at the time. So switched to the Everquest Client and let it patch, to see if anything new was out there since the last patch. It downloaded a few things I didn’t catch, but still failed on zone in from the Character selection screen. (client crash) Then I forced a full scan just to see, but apparently that found nothing, tried a second time on the EQ client and crash again. So I rebooted, (rebooted each time before too just in case that would help) and switched back to the WinEQ client, it was slow and I thought it would crash too but I did finally zone in… however my pet was gone and I was underwater, no boat. My health was ok so it doesn’t look like I was injured in a fall from the boat or anything, but all I can say is it was probably lucky I have the faerune aug in my trio veil and there were no monsters close. I made it to an island without further incident.

I will add that I often have low virtual memory notices, (just one of those things I haven’t wanted to spend time and money on yet) I get them regularly but they don’t usually inhibit play. Abysmal is laggy for me sometimes but until this, nothing else had been a particular problem for me. I probably reboot more often than I would otherwise, but that’s just about it.

I don't know if my final success was due to the WinEQ client or if each time I tried a little bit more of the zone was loaded locally finally allowing me to get on. It may just have been coincidence that I succeeded on the WinEQ client rather than EQ, I have no clue.

Don’t know that any of that was helpful but at least you know you’re not the only one.

Update: Real slow to gate out of there and it threw me to the server select screen. Jumped back in to the zone I was gating to and zoning from then on acted normaly. No problems while I was in the zone, traveled around a bit, got the drops I needed.

OoT observations
# Nov 13 2007 at 3:38 AM Rating: Decent
I recently went to the OoT to pick up stuff for my mage focus items, so I spent a while on the Seafury island.

The island can be split into 2 parts: top and bottom. The bottom is where most of the seafuries spawn, and is not that different from the old cyclops island. the top can be divided into three "islands" connected by bridges, and is where you can find the pirates and the mudtoes. also, if you hit monsters on the bottom from the top, they will run straight up.

gornit spawns on the bottom, and sometimes wanders to the top(I think. he was on the top when I got there so it's possible he spawns up there as well- but I killed him before he had a chance to come up so I'm not sure). the seafuries help him out, so if you can't handle him with an add, just wait and they'll wander their separate ways.

if you want to get to the top, I recommend swimming to the north of the island and running up from there, since there were less seafuries there and it was easy to time running between them.

the first "island"(east) has one of the mudtoes hanging out in a stone tower, the pirate captain next to a tree nearby, and the Oblong Bottle in another stone tower. the middle "island" has the gnome mage Toko(?) and the other mudtoe, who spawns on a little ledge that you may have to pan down to see though he'll run straight up when you hit him (assuming you don't kill him in one hit). the last "island" has some other named pirates (windwalker and some other guy), and was the only place on the top I saw seafuries.

I might add more if I return o the OoT (the revamp has made it a pain though, so maybe not). hope this helped people!

Broken boat
# Nov 08 2007 at 5:04 PM Rating: Decent
If by broken you mean the game crashes I don't know how to help you, but if you're like me and are being dropped just inside the zone line to swim your way across the entire zone(and really, did they have to make the zone so @%$&*& huge? good thing I'm a master swimmer), the best solution would be to find an older mage(39+) who can summon you up a 2 charge levitation ring. take the boat from BB, activate the ring when you zone into OOT and then run across the water to the pet spell island. Otherwise I guess you'll have to try the bazaar or research it (trivial at 21, I think)

The boats are back, but boy are they bugged. I have tried twice now to take the boat from BB to OoT. Each time the game crashed to desktop. Worse, when I tried to Reenter World, the client crashed trying to re-initialize me where I had crashed.

Both times I have had to wait the 6 hour time-out so I could return home and gate to PoK.

I'm going to send my main after the spells I need via Freeport ... hope that boat works better.

Anyone having similar problems with the BB boat please file a /bug. Maybe if enough people complain we will get another translocator until they debug the boat.

This boat is also used in the SK 1.5 epic. It is absolutely necessary to get to OoT to buy some mage spells. Elesseryl Terussar is the ONLY source in PoK.

Very annoying :(

The boat from Freeport ...

...does exactly the same thing. Crash to desktop, no way out but 6 hour wait to Return Home, then gate to wherever your bind point is. Noncasters may have quite a journal from Home.

This time with my main ... grrr ... I was going to try for some exp today ... guess not.

revamp is pretty good.. the seafury island was beefed up with about 30 spawns instead of the 8. it's pretty crazy how quick they respawn. i thinkaround 5 - 10 minute timer.

There's some new content as well.. noticed a guy on track near the sister of elrossi island.. King of the Sea. Was red to a 61 druid. Didnt get close enough to get a con though. I fear losing corpses in the ocean.

Ancient Cyclops was slain on the seafury island. I found him on top of the place. it's 2 large hills with 4 sections of beaches. the 4 beaches have about 10 each. then gornit and a couple of roamers are up on the hill and rope bridge between the two hills.

I cant wait to see what else is out there to find. =)

Well, for the little boats, clicking on the boat, while in it, will give you the "You have the Helm" message. Then you become a fixture in the boat, and your movement is the boat. You shouldn't have gotten off at Sister Island if you wanted to get to Faydwer (Butcherblock), just stay on that boat, and it'll get there eventually.
Also, little tip to catch a boat in mid ocean, get in front of it, and let it run over you. Maybe some jumping and moving into it at the same time is helpful, but the end result is you on the boat.

Let me tell you about an idea i had one day. I was running through Grater faydark and i had accedently attacked a nexus at the wizzy spires. Needless to say that i was killed Instantly. I was extreamly mad because i lost my exp. Through my hatered i studied the creature and i devised the most extravagant scheme ever. I was wondering if my fellow Citizens of norrath would aid me. Darkies and Lighties come together in a mass horde to take one down. "What's in it for me" a person might ask. Well i think that not only the feeling you get from uniting with all of the inhabitants of norrath to squash a common evil but a great possibilty of an uber pay off and Extream exp or maybe nothing just a cold hard defeat.I am not really sure if they drop anything or if they even give exp. They are most likely the least killed Npc in the game. I have heard of one or two being killed but to my knowlage no loot has ever been identified. There are only a couple of reasons why i have not been able to find the loot items either 1. The uber guild who took one down came up with an awsome item that they dont want to get nerfed because of 1000000 crying lowbies saying its too powerfull so they did not add it to new item lists 2. None of them have ever been killed 3. Normal Loot for lvl of mob 4. No loot :( Now i am not really sure yet of the master plan but i am thinking along the lines of a massive head on attack group attack at random with no aperant stratagey.A person could even make a mule char and lvl to 5 or 6 toe just for this battle.Toe to Toe with the Unchecked Evil of the world. The nexus scions are only able to be damaged by Non Resistable Damage. As far as I know, that only consists of Lifeburn, damage shields, and a Monk's Dragon Fang. Needless to say, I saw a monk and cleric take one out in North Karana, and nothing spectacular dropped. Experience wasn't phenomenal either. The mobs don't have an amazing amount of hit points, but it's hard to damage them.

Or so it seemed today when I got there.

Any information on this? Is it temporary? Or just the crack I smoked this morning?

Don't believe what you read about these not agrroing. I was doing reasonably well there and they all conned dubious or indifferent when the aviak I was hitting ran up a slope. I followed and Wham 2 Quetzels jump on me and chase me into water. Boat runs aground and sticks. I decide that corpse on dry land is preferable and walk onto beach to die. Long CR. Odd stamina loss

I recently made my first voyage across the Ocean of Tears from Freeport, and at some point during the trip my stamina started dropping for no apparent reason. I was doing nothing but sitting, and when it got down to about 2 bubbles the stamina started rising again. Not long after it went back to full, I arrived at the Faydwer dock. Anyone have any idea why ths happened?

I was boating from Antonica to Faydwer, pulled up at 1st dock, Seafury Cyclops was attaching someone on the end of the dock and then it quickly aggrod on me. I was of course caught quite off-guard, and with no protection from running around the boat as soon as you can spell damn I was on a corpse retrieve (corpse found later underwater by pier). I expect this was a fluke, but for my 1st trip through Ocean of Tears I certainly shed a few over my poor soggy, crab infested corpse.

Here is my gift to the soloing player....

Once you get to level 24, this is the place to be.....

On sister Isle, there are 3 dwarves on the back side of the island. Here is information on the 3 dwarves, as well as post OOT leveling tactics. I took my Necromancer up to 47 without grouping with another player.

****Warning*** If you kill these dwarves for esp, it will cause faction loss in Kaladim (including the Dwarf standing on the Peir when you get off the boat in Butcher Block Mountains)

1 Male Dwarf next to a fire and a tent. You can pull him solo, there is a dwarf in the tent that is in the upper 40's, dont worry he wont aggro.

1 Female Dwarf standing at a large Headstone, you can pull her solo away from the water, if you get to close the the 3rd dwarf near the water, he will join in. This dwarf is 1 level lower than the other two (sexist Verant...JK)

1 Male Dwarf standing at the water's edge near the Large Headstone. Pull him along the waterline to avoid a pull of the female Dwarf.

These Dwarves give great exp, they hit fairly hard, but since u will be soloing w/ pet (except druids) you should be able to take them down easily. Watch out for a named Pirate of Gunthak
he is a rouge and usually KOS to everyone (unless you have worked up that faction) He will join in while you are fighting the Dwarves, and his roaming path is near the area you will be fighting. He will be green at 24, but still have quite a few HP's and an ugly backstab when your sitting. If you get him on you, kill immediately, grab the earring and turn it into the NPC in the first hut (she is in the hut by herself), for some faction with the Sisters of Ellorosi, exp, and a small quest item (shark skin, Conch Shell, etc). You should be able to kill these Dwarves up to about 27 or 28, then head off to Rathe Mountains for Giant Skeletons untill you reach 30 or 31, if you are a Fear Kiting class, you can then Kill Cynthia at the bandit camp into your 40's. Do not attempt her if you cannot fear, or have a pet to interrupt (air pet for mages) as she is a Wizard and does 240 damage with a incredibly fast cast time. After she is (light blue) move to the Troll Guard Towers and Kill the SK and Shaman there until you are 47. (WARNING: Loss of faction with Grobb will happen if you kill those Trolls)

Happy Hunting...once you hit 47, go to the planes or Velious for some good armor...youve earned it.

Well after about 10 hours camping Wiltin Windwalker for my Ivy Etched Legs quest, I came to the following conclusion:

The pirate camp on Seafury Island would be a GREAT place for Dark races to farm Firiona Vie faction. There are 4 MoBs there (5 if you count Wiltin himself...). I never killed the buccanneer (as this slows down possible Wiltin spawns), so I'm not sure of his faction, but the other ones all give:

+Firiona Vie
-Pirates of Gunthak (any reason to care about this? It's not the Iceclad gnome faction.)

The respawn time on these guys (except the buccaneer/Wiltin) seems to be less than 5 minutes. I expect to see DE necros strolling the cobbled streets of Firiona Vie very soon...

Hi ,
i am a lvl 9 druid and have just started this , but i would recommend getting bound in kaladim , getting a lot of bags and heading to oot . get on the boat and zone to OoT when you pass some rocks jump off . there will be an island with 4 or 5 gobs on t . i , as a druid , harmony , snare then run to the top of the rock , when the gob is on the rock root and dd , when gob gets to half life snare then blast down to where it wants to flee and bash it a round till it's good and dead. the loot is good , a bow selling for almost 2 gold and 4 arrows . i plan to hunt here till lvl 11 or 12 .
happy hunting all ,

Sister Isle really nice
# Aug 10 2001 at 1:48 AM Rating: Excellent
As a 21st lvl cleric, I made some good loot on Sister Isle. The purity belts sell for 1pp and 3gp, and the sisters spawn so many times and so fast you really don't have any downtime (unless you have to meditate).

Yeah, there are pirates on the island that get pissy when you start pounding the sisters. One pirate made a bee line straight for me when I wasn't even close to him! At 21st lvl, though, he was blue and easy to tear down (and that was with one of the sisters pounding on me, too).

I learned to stay close to the shore. If you avoid the center of the island you can hammer the sisters one at a time and avoid most of the pirates. Plus, some of the sisters have an annoying healing capability that can make a battle last uncomfortably longer. So, my point is, stick to the shore and solo one sis at a time.

Also, kudos out to the guy that mentioned how to board a boat just by swimming into it. Nice. That little tid-bit saved me a lot of sweat and tears.

For those of you that don't know what I'm talking about, I learned that if you swim head on into the front of the boat you'll board the bottom lvl. Real handy if you're an evil person like me and have to avoid the dock.

The Goblin Island (which is next to Sister Isle) has some nice blue creepies for hunting. The problem is that nobody is ever there to hunt with and the goblins tend to cluster if you're not careful. I had to Gate and then camp twice just to get away from a nasty fight (there isn't anywhere to zone on these blasted rocks). So, yeah, if you run into trouble with the Gobs then just Gate (if you can) and camp. Works just like zoning, only not as convenient.

Also, Root is an important spell to have on Sister Isle. If you don't have Root, I pity you. The sisters like to turn tale and run when things get rough which causes you to wander towards the center of the island--not good. Just keep that in mind when killing these wenches (I don't care if they wear purity belts; they're still dirty whores in my book).

Fellow darkies: there's nowhere to sell here. One player mentioned a wizard merchant on the cyclop island, but I think that's more trouble than it's worth. Therefore, make sure you have plenty of sacks and bags for the goodies.

Oh, and don't forget to say "hi" if you see me there. I hunt there every now and then for some extra loot. ;-)

I'm a 14 druid. Can I use Levitate and SoW to transport me and a friend to Aviak Island, so save on the swim and agro dangers? We both have Camo, because he is a mage, so we can /follow each other under camo (great quirk there). Ofcourse, I can also cast see invis on him. :)

Just wondering. I'm usually limited to a few hours a night when I play. I don't want to spend it waiting on the boat.

Thanks

Hi there.

You cannot cross zonelines into Ocean zones (Ocean of Tears, Timorous Deep, or Iceclad) unless you're on the boat/raft/barge that makes the journey. In other words, NO, you cannot Lev/SoW from Butcherblock or Freeport into the Ocean of Tears.

You have to take the boat into the zone. Once you're in there, though, you can jump off the boat, Lev/SoW, and run directly to your destination.

Just keep in mind - these ocean zones are HUGE! Expect a long run, whatever your destination.

sirens and aviaks
# Aug 02 2001 at 11:13 PM Rating: Default
The sirens are crappy exp at 16 and they take a while to respawn. I'm a 16 druid and went to the aviaks, man what a place!! It looks like you can just pull out to the shore, so I did and sure enough a tanager comes a runnin to the rescue to kill me. I even watched him come over the hill running at me and I was way near where the boat is. Luckily there was another player there to get me out of my bind but I don't understand why he aggro'd on me from so far away. Kinda discouraged me from staying there but it looks like the best exp I can get at my lvl without dying. Anyone have any better suggestions?

Don't 16 druids have Harmony? Cast Harmony on the MoB you want to pull, then pull it quickly with something non-AoE (non-damaging is even better, i.e. Cancel Magic).

The trick to Harmony is that the MoB you pull cannot run past other MoBs on the way to you, or they will aggro as well. Always pull the closest MoBs first. Adjust your angle of attack as neccesary.

Gargoyles on Spectre Island
# Jul 23 2001 at 11:28 AM Rating: Decent

Great Hunting for a 23 ranger or the like!

Island Details: On the spectre island the spectres (5) stick close (no roaming) to the "tower" in the middle of the island, they also have a small agro range which makes this all possible. There are also 5 other mobs, at 23 thats what you'll be working on. Depending on how someone left the island (more on this later) it will probably be 5 greater skeletons or 5 gargoyles. If its 5 gargoyles skip this next part.

If the skels are up kill them off (don't have to kill them all, but may have to cycle through 3 or 4 or more) until one or more gargoyles spawn (I like to get at least two up). The gargoyles will fight off the skels until there are no more skels and only gargoyles. Leaving you free to pull gargoyles.

I like to set up on the northeast corner of the island by the dead tree (way in the corner) the monsters do not roam here and you will be free from adds. I have seen some people pulling spectres to the northwest corner of the island, so this may be a safe spot to pull to also, but I am not sure about that. BTW I've never seen a skel or gargoyle in the NW corner by the itty piece of island apart from the rest of the island, so it might be okay.

Gargoyles are magic only, so make sure you have magic weapons/boots or your spells loaded. I've been really successful with melee and ignites (no kicks, I don't have magic boots :( ) I usually have about 5 minutes of down time per mob.

As far as loot, I've been getting 1 eye/5 gargoyles (off the top of my head) and I can sell them for 9plat each at sisters island (I'm ally with around an 90 cha).

For experience I get about 1/2-1/3 blue bubble per gargoyle. Not too bad.

BTW Please leave the island with one or two (or more) gargoyles up! This will leave the island with all gargoyles for the next adventurer coming through!

Happy Hunting!

I'm a newbie Gnome Wizard (4) in Kaladim. I want to take the boat to Freeport. I'm trying to get to Rivervale to meet up with some Halflings there. I don't know anything about the boat travel, but the MOBs sound way out of my league. If I stay on the boat, is there any danger or do the Mobs only attack if you leave the boat? I dont want to get all the way out there and die and be stuck back in Ak' Anon! The idea is to level with the Halflings, so I don't want to build up anymore before the trip. Is this possible or should I work on getting a higher level before attempting the voyage?

You can generally expect to have a very uneventful (and boring) ride to freeport. I have read about a pirate getting on a ship and killing PCs, but I'm not sure if he's in the area THIS ship travels through. Anyway, if it is, then it probably doesn't happen too often. I made the trip many times before I got my port spells and never had the guy give me any grief at all.

Your problem, though, is not so much the boat ride anyway. It's the walk that follows. But if you bind in Freeport before you zone into East Commons, you will probably make it eventually, but you may lose a corpse or two to decay during the attempt(s).

Your best bet is to bind in Freeport and put EVERYTHING you have in the bank except the items a new character is "born" with. That way, corpse decay won't matter at all.

Next, make as many runs as it takes to get to Rivervale. You will zone from West Freeport into East Commons, then into West Commons, then Kithicor Forrest, and finally into Rivervale.

Kith is Everquest's Sleepy Hollow. Terrible things come out to play there at night. But if you make it that far and wait for daytime, you'll find it to be a low level zone.

Watch for the Rivervale entrance tunnel on the right-hand wall as you approach High Hold Pass. Got to keep a sharp eye out though. It's easy to miss. Best plan here is to ask your friends to wait for you in Kith just outside that tunnel. They'll be much easier to spot from far off than the entrance itself is.

Good travels.

Going from BB to Freeport is safe, the ship doesn't stop on sister island where pirates have on occation got on the boat. Though to my knolage the only way that happens there is when someone runs onto the boat expecting to be safe and just ends up pulling the thing on to kill all the passengers.

I have a new idea that might be fun for mages that like to roleplay - the water mage. You would only use the water pet, not any of the other pets, and you would only fight in watery areas. I think that this would actually be doable, and I might try it out. Here is what it might look like for you hunting in only watery spots:

1-7 : your newbie zones, don't have to hunt in water spot yet
8-15 : wisps in erud's crossing, sirens in OOT, Jonah in Lake Rathe at level 12
16-23: gargoyles in OOT, birds in Lake Rathe, lots of things in Lake of Ill Omen, crocs on beach of Oasis
24-34: sisters/dwarves in OOT, bunch of things in Lake of Ill Omen
35-38: spectre groups in OOT and oasis, gorillas in timorous deep with a partner, a few things in lake of ill omen
39-48: soloing gorillas in timorous or high level goblins in Lake of Ill Omen, can group and do specs in Oasis and OOT, can solo Gornit on Seafury Island, can group in Kedge Keep
49-55: seafuries in OOT and raptors in Timorous Deep

You wouldn't have to hunt 100% of the time in water areas, but you COULD get from 8 to 55 in only watery areas and still be able to pick up great exp. and money (good money would be from wisps, gargoyles, and gornit). I didn't even list a lot of the other watery spots that are also good hunting. I think it would be a fun roleplaying challenge. Would anyone else try it?

Great for all you evil characters who don't care too much about losing faction with lighties anyway...
Take the boat from Freeport (bind yourself if you want) and get off at the first island. Be careful, especially if you're KOS in Freeport. The boat stop is guarded by several very high level named NPCs that you don't want to mess with and they are KOS to you.
Circle around to the other side of the island and look for the Sisters of Erollisi. At level 12, most of the them should con blue, but there are exceptions. They cough up decent XP, but the loot is the main here. The Sisters drop Purity belts which sell to NPC merchants for about 1pp, and they also drop Elven blood (2gp or so, stackable), as well as Rusty Halberds that make good pet weapons, but they're heavy so you may not want to take them to sell.
Just load up on Purity belts (2sta, 2str, 3ac, waist slot) and either sell them off to other players or to merchants and make a lot of cash.

You can also get good exp. soloing these girls at levels 24-34 as a magician or necromancer. There are two level 25 sisters on the island that are great exp. and loot. One of them stands on the dock of the island. The other stands right next to a tree that is next to the dock. If you stand at the end of the dock you can fight them bot without having to agro the other. Be sure to root or snare though!

Corpse on boat
# Apr 28 2001 at 7:44 PM Rating: Decent
I found that you don't want to die on the boats going between Buther Block and Freeport, nor do you want to drag your corpse to the boat to loot it. If you die on the boat, your corpse gets scraped off the boat when the boat zones, and disappears when the zone resets (about once every hour). If you drag your corpse to the boat, attempting to loot it will result in an error message, and it will disappear when the boat zones.
