NOTE: This zone and the East Commonlands zone were revamped and merged into one zone: Commonlands.

The western portion of the Commonlands is more dangerous than the east, having slightly higher level roaming animals, orcs, and occasional hill giants. The area has suffered from werewolf outbreaks, so adventurers are advised to keep an eye over their shoulders.

High level dark elves in EC and WC
# Jul 08 2005 at 12:48 AM Rating: Decent
I (30 bard) was in WC today on my way to do the befallen mission when i was attacked and killed by a teir'del (probably spelled wrong) scout. When a level 65 epic rogue in my guild came to check it out, some of them conned white to him. He tried to fight one of the blue ones and had to run for the zone. Within seconds it had him down to 30% health, and it was only down to 86%. They hit for 583 per hit and they hit FAST, and they backstab. Not only that, but they are invisable until they attack. Be very careful going through east and west commons.

I have a lvl 14 monk that I've been soloing and occasionally hitting groups in North Ro and camping orcs in EC, but just recently got some skinny on WC and befallen and was curious if there are any regulars to WC on Saryrn that wouldn't mind an extra bulletsponge. I would /ooc in game, but the server's down.
ust a little advice for the monk
# Nov 10 2002 at 1:42 PM Rating: Decent
well my advice is simple find a druid ( hi level of course) and ask for a port and greater invisbility and sow grab your corpse inWCand then a port to SFG run to blackburrow ask someone to show you and get faction around 250 gnolls should make you have bad ,but not kos to qeynos any more
Guards
# Jul 16 2002 at 9:23 AM Rating: Decent
Newbs a reminder that hanging out at the guard shack can also be dangerous because they often get whacked by upper level game players who are KOS and then there is no "safety" net!

Fav trick for 13-20 - Based at the druid ring and works best for noncasters during the weekend in case you need to bind or get sow but please keep in mind I am a druid so I worry more about mana than health and am very patient.

Around sunrise packs of kodiaks start walking in a straight line across, about 5 of them, from the haunted tower straight to the ring. It's easy to pick out a kodiak or two or up to 4 young kodiaks since they tend to space out in the line and can be taken 1 at a time. Then once the sun is up hunt around the hills for bears of your level. Once the sun starts to set pick your final targets. At night hunt the willowisp if they are still blue or higher. There is a spawn point real close so you'll always see a wisp or two bouncing around.

When selling, do it at the ring if you can or wait till day to go to the inn over the hill unless you are evil as there is the DE Gix that wanders past there every night and WILL attack goodies

Doing this I'm getting REAL good exp from the kodiaks even if I can only find 3-5 a game day. During the night when I don't hunt I spend it making beer braised bear *Yumm* and foraged stews, uping my baking skill. If you haven't worked on cooking EC is a good place to start and you can *ahem* burn the midnight oil and get your skill up to master in the zone really fast.

A plus is at the ring you'll be able to find more help just don't abuse other's generosity or they will ignore you. Offer some coin or food if you find yourself using healing at the ring often

And mind the giants that spawn every blue moon or so, they do it right at the ring and the annoying pawns and skellies

Gix is a turd monger

I Hate that damn dark elf! I hope The GM's Take him off! Theres no point for him to be there! this is practically a newb zone!
RE: Gix is a turd monger
# Jun 24 2002 at 2:00 PM Rating: Decent
Newb? there are hill giants and Kodiaks that spawn at the druid ring near Gix's haunt alone, EC is the Newb but not WC that is the intermediary zone, it ranges from stomping snake sad to as I said GIANTS! (lvl 34 though)

As for a point yer there is his head is part of the druid quest (which is why he is oft seen within spitting distance of the druid's ring)

But I agree on the opinion
What a moron!

Yesterday I got ported to WC for a guild raid. Now I'm stuck and not bound there! I'm an iksar making me KOS everywhere. I'm too afraid to train in the area because the Hill giants nearly killed me (thank god for FD). I only have 1 gold on me (if I had carried more my weight would be well over 15) Does anybody have words of advice for a stupid lizard?

Oukamii, if nothing else, next time you log in, hit the button that says "return to home city" instead of enter world. When you enter the world, it will then be in your home city.

Lol Shazorn. This post was in 2001 (kind of pointless for me to reply now in 2009 when your reply was in 2005 =P), years before they added that button to the character select screen.

Wow is this guy a meanie, popped right infront of me immediately sent a spell my way hitting me for 251 dmg nearly depeleting my health bar. Immediately ran to Kith, luckily he is not too fast. Had just finished running from Gix cons high blue to my 21 Druid hit me for 44 55 as soon as he aggroed diseased me and proceeded to lifetap like Zytl though is slow runner made it to EC : ) but just be on the lookout for these dudes.
Know what ur doing
# Nov 06 2001 at 9:11 PM Rating: Decent
First of all, before coming into this zone, TRY to get sow... if u do, nothing can really kill you as long as you dont act stupid and are here at a lvl where you wont get downed by a spell in one hit

Secondly, many people are saying this zone is insanely dangerous, and should be avoided- THIS IS NOT TRUE- wisps, camps, and the wandering kodiacs provide GREAT exp and loot thru lvls 14 to... i'd say about 18-20. This zone is a cakewalk compared to Lfay. In Lfay, the brownies wander randomly, and kill most travelers with a single spell without even being seen.

The things you have to worry about are things which you dont see coming, and if you have sow on, even the dark elves aren't Too dangerous... but be careful! Once again, *TRY*TO*GET*SOW*FIRST, with sow, you dont have to worry about almost anything in this zone... except the occasional spell from a dark elf, which you have to put to scale against the dangers of other zones.

...as long as you stay away from the Shadowed Men. Not only can they outrun SOW, they can outrun a level 60 bard singing his best speed song with the best drums available in the game...in other words, they can outrun anybody. Luckily, they stay near their camp in the southwestern corner of the zone.

First your 10 lvl wiz is probably a bit low for WC, but you can make it work if you play it careful. Hunt around the toll booth for spiders, cats, and willow wisps (which give great loot). If you run into trouble the guards will protect you, but be careful because the they won't help with the wisps, and are sometimes hunted themselves. I would keep away from the kodiaks for awhile as they tend to agro and cluster very frequently.
Your 20th warrior will do fine in WC. The derv camp gives good xp's and sometimes will drop bronze weapons. The only things he needs to be concerned about are hill giants, griffons, Gix, and the dragoon (who has gotten me 3 times, lol). Befallen is another story. The warrior can handle the first level, but probably needs to be in a group to go deeper. Also be prepared a lot of trains (similar to BB) happen when higher level characters get in over there heads in the lower levels and train to the entrance. This can cause massive death and destruction to the unwary. The first room to the right seems to be the safest place to hunt on the first level. Do not try and bring in your 10th wiz into Befallen. Hope this helps

WC bear hunting
# Aug 17 2001 at 1:09 PM Rating: Good
I almost don't want to share this little tid bit, because I have the feeling if I do the next time I go bear hunting in WC I'll hear the magic words, "bears are camped, go away". Face it people, there are no claimable camps in outdoor zones, face it, live with it. Anyway, I found several bear spawn points right next to each other... 1 was a young kodiak spawn, 1 was a black bear spawn, and the other was a full grown kodiak spawn. If you ever need some money, follow the south wall of wc till you hit the west zone wall, and there will be literally DOZENS of bears for you to hunt. Farm those HQ bear pelts for the 15pp each that tailors will buy them for... or if you're a tailor your self, there is an endless supply of bear pelts of all qualities. Those bears are excellent experience till about level 16 or so, so be prepared to level quickly. Anyway I took one of my alts there (a lev 14 twinked human monk) and was able to solo as many as 4 young kodiaks at a time, and in a matter of an hour or so, looted 4 HQ bear pelts and sold them for 20pp each... not bad loot, especially when you consider I was gaining exp the whole time.
RE: WC bear hunting
# Aug 16 2002 at 8:16 AM Rating: Decent
On Druzzil Ro, HQ bear pelts go for at least 30pp, making it even more profitable to hunt Kodiaks =)

This is a great zone to hunt. Nearly every mob drops loot that sells: Spider Silk, HQ pelts, and Greater Lightstones. Even Sister Isle would be hard pressed to match the money that can be made here at a low level.
DE camp faction
# Aug 13 2001 at 12:59 PM Rating: Default
They definately aren't militia faction. I'm KoS to the Freeport fuzz, but indifferent to the camps. I'm a half elf rogue follower of Bristlebane. I went inkie with my mask to see if it would change things, but they were still indifferent. It might be a new faction. Anyone know why they're there, or what the background to them being there is? Oh yeah, they were almost all blue to me, and I'm 31, the captain in one of the camps was red, I think the apprentice in the camp right over the zone line from EC was green, but I don't remember exactly.

DE Camps and Lake
# Jul 13 2001 at 9:48 AM Rating: Default
When did they put that big lake and the DE camps in WC? I was running through there to get a port and I almost fell in a lake, much to my surprise! How long ago was that put in and if it has been in for a long time how have I managed to miss it all these trips to WC?

I was KOS to the DE's
# Jul 12 2001 at 4:04 PM Rating: Default
Well, I guess I have my answer. I was on my way to the EC zone from Befallen, and a Lt. L'xtl (or something like that) started whoopin' my butt right out of Befallen. I barely made it to the zone alive. I trained him past the Guards at the tollbooth and they did nothing. I don't know if he was wondering from the camp, or if he was pulled there. I hope its the latter.

DE camps

I was on my way from Qeynos to LOIO (Long hike, I know) and passed by the DE camp here closest to the EC zone. There were 5 of them, no one was camping them. 4 were blue, one yellow to my 23 ranger. They conned indifferent, but I was camoed at the time, so I'm not sure whether I'm KOS to them or not. The last post talks about a pally being indifferent to them... if they aren't KOS to pally's I suppose I'll be okay...

Anyone know what's up with the dark elf camps in WC now? I'm an erudite paladin and they con indifferent (thank god, because I wandered right into the middle of the camp before I realized they weren't orcs anymore). They were also all red to me at level 18. Anyone know?
New Camps
# Jun 28 2001 at 1:06 PM Rating: Default
After the patch on 6/27, there are two new camps in WC. I hear they are Dark Elf camps. Can anyone confirm or deny? What level are they? What do they drop? What is their spawn rate? Their aggro radius? Can you sell to them?
Thanks

Shadowmen
# Jun 25 2001 at 3:25 PM Rating: Default
We had a group at the Shadowmen in the SW corner last night for about 2 hours. I gained around 6-7 blues in this time (lvl 24-25), and was grouped w/three warriors, a mage and a druid, ranging from 24-31. The Shadowmen are necros (book), monk (no visible icon except name), cleric (orb) and warrior (weapons). Most of the stuff they drop is no-rent weapons, WAR only, quest items? and then some other items like essence of shadow. We were camping to get some kind of eyepatch for the mage's quest, but even though we cleared the camp like five or six times (at least), it didn't drop. Not much money dropped, either, so this is purely an experience/faction/quest camp.

With the mixed group, we had a pretty easy time of keeping the camp clear, but the one thing that sucked about going up against Shadowman is that they can Fear you, even at a good distance - took a swim more than once, although usually (since I did not have SOW on) my helpless dance didn't last anymore than halfway to lake.

i was wailin' on bears in the northeast corner of the zone (in the little valley that spawns young kodiaks) and got jumped from behind by the lycanthrope. made it into e. commons before he did much damage, and then saw him about 15 mins later in the same corner. i was hidden, so he didn't see me. he came running in from the west along the north wall and turned south near the zone line. hope this keeps a few of you alive!
