I come back to EQ after a ten year break and the Oasis is gone?!?! I remember when EQ went live, my brother beta tested the game and we spent many hours in that desert. Hopefully my little buddy Lockjaw is still around...

Welp this is fun...... as of 10/24/11 at 8:00am CST i camped in MC last night and logged into Oasis of Marr. weird. as of my guild manager and /who it says oasis of Marr. feels good being in this old zone though.
A cryin shame

So many of us have such stories from our days in the Oasis. "Train to dock" was a popular /ooc. This was one active zone for those that liked to take chances and be challenged. A great zone for the young bard to hone their skills to be sure.

And I miss sitting on the island watching the giants chase down their prey while watching the sun go down as I meded.

Shame on SOE for deleting this zone. Would be nice to go back and take revenge on some old foe.

The Old Zone
# Jan 08 2009 at 3:17 PM Rating: Decent
I remember the days of grinding experience in the old Oasis zone killing crocks and running from the giant when he came around. Yes, you can say Oasis is still there, but to understand how many of us liked the "old zone" would be difficult for new players. The way we feel about this kind of change is quite similiar to someone who was living in a house and one of those rooms had a picture hanging on the wall. Then when he had to move to different house, sure, he took the picture with him, but it just didn't look the same hanging on a different wall.
So you really don't enjoy that picture anymore, or for some, the new home your looking at. I am ALL for seeing the game progress. Create new zones, new designs, new graphics, new mobs, but personally I think it should be done without "touching" the old zones. Some of us who raised a toon in these older zones, may look forward to going back with a new toon and starting all over again, because we loved those zones so much. Running for the zone line between east and west commons was exciting for some. I have no idea why the developers thought these kind of changes were needed, but I would be confident it was not based on feedback from the percentage of the veteran players.
Actually.....

This zone was merged into SRo -- so its still there.

In fact -- the ACTUAL Oasis zone is still in the game. The little bug that tosses you back to a zone after LD (based on last LDoN u did) -- will still send you to the old and actual Oasis, as of this typing.

Are you kidding me?? Oasis used to be soooo much larger, and had infinitely more character than this newer version. Don't get me wrong, most of the time change is good, but not in this case. I remember spending hours upon hours double quad-kiting the spectres, kiting the sand giants, getting a beat down from Arthikis when I was level 20. Now when I travel to what used to be Oasis, it's all gone, and it makes me very sad.
New items
# Jul 26 2005 at 1:59 AM Rating: Decent
Just made a new toon, and reliving my past hunting crocs and orcs in Oasis. I've noticed that there are some new items dropping from the orcs in this zone, and I can't find anything out about them!

They are from the orcs in the camp close to South Ro zone-in. Small bag of orc baubles and ogre hair something - graphic looks like a kilt. They are NOT lore, magic or no-drop. But the vendors won't buy them either.
Anyone know what these are for?

Those are for a newbie armor quest you get in PoK. The ones you need drop in Rathe Mountains though.

Breaking spectres
# Oct 24 2003 at 2:40 AM Rating: Decent
I was wondering...

Perhaps some ranger knows how to break the spectre island neatly?

I tried different methods yesterday for 3 hours with no success.
Best one was when I took "only" 3 spectres from the fully spawned island to the zone.

Currently I can break it with harmony so that I take 3 to zone, root one at zone and snare it. Then zone back in a few and whack it. Repeat.

After this, I have enough time to harmonize and pull neatly, one by one.

But this is driving me nuts! I can pull _any_ camp damnit! :P

So please, someone, save my sanity and tell me how to single pull a fully spawned spectre island. =)

Low levels read this

To all you low level people who wonder why Dry Bones attack you. Check this out. I am a level 54 rogue. I travel through oasis alot. Sometimes to get revenge on things that killed me as a young halfling and sometimes to get to other zones. Dry Bones still attack me and I can get 5-10 on me just running through the zone. They attack everyone. I'm just glad I can kill them easily now. But Dry Bones have a huge ago range no matter what level you are. Also Skeletons, Zombies, ect... Decaying Skeleys are about the only undead that don't ago. Enjoy =)
Solo in the Desert
# Nov 11 2002 at 11:53 PM Rating: Decent
Sup fellow travelers,
I like to solo. If you do as well, made six eaisy levels running my young **** along the shore to the south end to the second large sandpile poping up out of the water. I would medd/heal on the back side without fear of attack and be very selective about pulling. Don't leave too soon, lvl 21 is very eaisy in this zone))

forget this zone
# Jun 28 2002 at 2:21 AM Rating: Default
As there are no more crocs (a few still go underwater) and mainly nasty casters (Dry bone skelys, desert madman, ...) this zone is now useless.

A few people still fight orcs but the happy days of croc hunting are gone.

Hard to understand why they did so.

Oasis not as fun?
# May 15 2002 at 5:00 AM Rating: Decent
Is it just me or has the Oasis changed for the worse after the last patch. It seems like thereare alot more undead and madmen which suck for exp and less crocs and deep water crocs which are great exp. Let me know....
Marr is good. Rogues are good. Buy my arrows.
# Mar 18 2002 at 3:31 PM Rating: Decent
This is a good place to hunt- despite the occasional spectre trains, angry giants, and fast lockjaws. If your looking for experience, fight in groups of 2 or 3 (or even solo) crocs. The orc hwy is funner and easy in groups, but it isnt great exp. Ive been fighting here for a couple weeks (Level 13-17.5) and I know this area pretty well. This is probably the best area for newbies like me to learn how to group effectively. Also a great place to jump off pillars to gain pts on safe fall. So come here and kill crox and orx from level 12-18ish. Rogues are the best. And if you need arrows on the Rathe, pst me. Or just give me money.

Wow I just have to say that Oasis is the most fun I have had in EQ in my short yet glorious life!

The dangers - specters, Lockjaw, sand giants and those unspeakable dry bone skeletons!

The heroism - sand giants dispatched with extreme prejudice by level 50 superfighters, groups banding together at the docks to put Lockjaw down for good!

The despair - panicked mages running for the docks, warriors swarmed by a cluster of orcs, piles of corpses left in the wake of specters!

The horror! The horror! The horror!
