Part of the Plane of Rage, access to this stronghold is gained by breaking down a door in the wall surrounding the tower of Razorthorn in The Devastation. Which faction of mobs you encounter in Sverag depends on which faction "controls" The Devastation. They do not get along with one another, and can be any of or a mixture of:

- Barbarians (Furies of the North)
- Bolvirk Giants (Legions of Sverag)
- Drachnids and Spiders (The Venom Swarm)
- Dwarves (Stormbreaker Furies)
- Evil Eyes (The Irebound)
- Kobolds (Wildfang)
- Ogres (Bonecracker Furies)
- Orcs and Goblins (Redfist Legionnaires)
- Shiliskins (Deathshed Legion)
- Trolls (Blood Furies)
- Vah Shirs (Furies of Shir)
- Werewolves (Ragefang)
- Zombies, Spectres, Knights (Ravenous Undead)

At the very center of this stronghold is Razorthorn, the Tower of Sullon Zek, host to numerous tasks. Most mobs see invisibility, travel in packs, and hit for a wallop. The experience in a well-balanced group, however, is quite worth the effort in establishing a camp here.

Strategy Notes:
Just inside the front door to the stronghold, you will find a non-KOS quest NPC who requests that you bring it the heads, paws, and other body parts of its enemies. Who the NPC is depends on which faction is in control at the time.

Within the narrow halls of the walls surrounding the stronghold (aside from roamers) you will find medium-strength raid encounter NPCs (75th level). You can tell you have encountered one of these NPCs as it will be surrounded by adds. They are not KOS and may or may not be the same type of NPC in control of the stronghold at the time.

At the southern-most corner of the stronghold, you will find another raid encounter NPC (80th level). This one will be significantly more difficult than the aforementioned weaker raid encounters. Who this NPC is depends on which faction is in control.

For the names in this zone, there are 5 spawn points where the PH or a named can spawn. The spawn points are noted in my map points below as Name Spawn Point 1 - Name Spawn Point 5. There are 8 faction type NPCs that can rotate through these spawn points depending on which faction has control of the zone. The factions are Kobolds, Undead, Evil Eyes, Werewolves, Orcs, Shilikin, Drachnid, and Giants. It does not appear that humans or vah shir are a part of this named rotation. It is possible to have more than 1 faction in control of the zone at time. I have seen 4 factions up in the zone during my research.

Each faction hate the others and will immediate start attacking themselves if close. This can make it difficult for hunting the rare creations since they could kill each other before you have a chance to kill them. Spawn location 1-4, the PHs are just common NPCs (e.g. 'a grunt' for the kobolds). Spawn point 5 PHs is a bit different. There is a set of 'fake' names that appear in place of the real one. The 'fake' name NPC does not drop any special loot while the true rare does drop a special item. It is possible to have non-KOS faction on some of these names and their trash NPCs.

Besides, the 5 name spawn location with its set of names, there is a 9th set of names for the Hunter's Achievement that are not tied to a faction. Two of these names (i.e. The_Subjugant and Restrained_Cereton ) appear to always be up after their respawn timer has occurred. The other 3 names (i.e. an imprisoned general, an imprisoned hero, Soulfury Enbermeer) have a PH on their spawn point (i.e. an imprisoned enemy, a savage fury). Respawn timer for all names locations appears to be approximately 18-20 minutes.

Besides the name for hunters, there also appears to be some names that are Raid level names. The mini-raid level names appear to spawn in the hallways at the doors to the outer courtyard. They spawn with 3-4 guards. The major raid named (i.e. Ruingtor the Champion) is spawns in the middle of the outer courtyard rear field (ie. opposite side from the gatehouse room). These do not count for the hunter's achievement. They appear to have a 24-hour spawn timer.

On the process of what factions are present in the zone at a given time, this is a bit less known at the time of me writing this guide. Approximately every 24-hours (+/- 6 hours), there is a zone wide emote broadcasted. The emote will say,
Quote:
"The faint sound of an invading force in the distance sends chills down your spine."

When this occurs, a set of faction invaders will spawn and start running through the zone killing the other factions. The invaders will have "invader" or "aggressor" in their name. This invasions last exactly 1 hour after which the invaders will stop spawning. It is assumed that if enough of them have control of the zone, their type will start spawning in the names spawn points. I have not figured out what determines what type of faction invades. In my monitoring, I received the same faction through two consecutive invasions. It is rumored that which ever faction controls Devastation may determine which group invades Sverag. I have not confirmed that at this time.

The invasion does make the zone extremely chaotic. The invaders appear to have a larger aggro radius than the normal trash NPCs of their type. All NPCs will summon when they have taken damage, either from another NPCs or from a PC. This can result in player characters being bounced all around the zone is present while an invasion is underway. It is recommended that if you are of the level where this is experience granting content for your character you should immediately leave the zone or prepare for a corpse run.

Friend and I hunted this for a week and a half or so on Mangler, and wanted to add a few additional things we learned:
  • We could not find anything that determined which faction invaded Sverag, and tried a number of different things in both Dev & Sverag. The faction that invades seems to be random.
  • If an invading force is successful, the prior faction seems to depop at the end of the invasion and won't continue spawning in the zone or at the rare PH spots
  • Before a server reset, we had all 8 different factions cycling through the rare PH's (each of the 8 PH's on their own respawn cycle). An invasion then failed and those cycles changed. One PH kept its same 8 spawns while another dropped down to 4 of those 8 factions and another dropped to 6 of the 8. So it seems like failed invasions can change which of the possible factions popping in the zone spawn at that PH spot, and it may not be every faction at each rare spawn point.
  • The repop of those 6 rares was always in the same order they were killed, and a rare would only spawn in the place of its faction. This means you can only get named mobs of the faction(s) that is/are spawning in that rare PH spot.
  • We weren't able to prove this before finishing, but our working assumption given what we saw above is if an invasion fails, the faction that tried to invade will continue to spawn around the zone & has a chance to spawn in the rare PH spots
  • Invasions are significantly more likely to fail if the raid mob for the controlling faction is up

So, you're needing multiple factions rare mobs it would be best to help invasions fail so you can have more than 1 race spawning at each PH spot. If you're needing a specific faction, it's best to wait till that race invades and then help them win the invasion.

Update Notes:

Ok. I have a couple updates:
  • The invasions appears to occur between 18 to 36 hours. I have had as soon as 18 hours between cycles and as long as 36 hours.
  • The invasion starts with the the zone wide broadcast below. But occasionally, you may get a second emote at the end of the invasion or no emote at all.
  • There is a chance that the PHs can become bugged and stopped spawning. This happen to me on the giants. That bug appears to clear up on a reset after the next invasion.
  • Yoon appears to be bugged at the moment. I have not received any evil eye PH for 5 days, even through i have had 3 invasions including another evil eye in that time period.
  • You can determent which faction has control by looking at the quest NPC at the zone-in gates. It will be the same type of the once in control, e.g. a head hunter = Kobolds, Skald = giants). Alternatively, the NPC at the bottom of the ramp to Razorthorn next to the 'a savage fury' PHs is the same indicator.
  • Beside the 'control faction', I have seen up to 3 additional faction NPCs cycling through. [li]Respawn timer for the PHs is approximately 18-20 minutes. Each PH can be synchronized to spawn at the same time by ensuring that they are previously killed at the same time.

Who controls the zone?

is there any way to control who "owns" the zone? eg: It's all / mostly spiders at the moment, how do I switch it to a different mob type?

Ya,
but, it's super secret!

It has to do with certain mobs and locations in devastation.
Hopefully it has been changed by now though. People would change control while groups were in rage, and the ph's they killed wouldn't respawn for a few hours.

I am trying to get in with my necro and SK. no spells affected it, the pet did no damage and I beat on it with the SK and still the Health bar on the door showed negative 4% with about three quarters of the health bar showing red. Can anyone tell me EXACTLY how you break down the door so that you can zone in??

Door has been bugged the past few days. According to a gm (an actucal gm, not a guide), it's a known issue and will be fixed "soon"

I hope they are going to incrase the spawn times of some named in there. Been getting straight ph's for hours.

#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 23 2006 at 9:27 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) The zone in is in the halls of the Freeport Area for those that still haven't found it. There is a statue that you click on to zone in. Once you zone in, there is a portion of the wall you have to click to zone out. If you don't have maps loaded you won't be able to find it most likley since its not really viewable.
LOC

Actually you are talking about The Devastation This is the fortress in the center of The Devastation.

To get there:
Once you zone into Devastation (directions above) you need to head to the center of the zone. there will be a bridge around the center moat, on the western side. cross the bridge and go around a small wall and you will find a door that has been broken in rn into this and you will enter Sverag, Stronghold of Rage.

Keep in mind that many times you will zone into a train or a group attempting to break in. If you need to leave just runout through the other side of the broken door you just entered in from.
Missions
# Jun 13 2006 at 4:43 AM Rating: Default
I can confirm that doing all missions from one mission giver (goblin in my case) gives you nothing.. absolutely nothing but faction hits.. not your normal faction hits but to do with the amount of rage you have. if you wish to build rage to max (which i havent done and wont bother to)i would suggest doing the war machines quest over and over as it takes a very short time.

A palindrome is a word that's spelled the same forward and backward, like racecar. Those are just backwards words (almost).

Is there a Loc for this zone from Devistation?
Interesting Zone in
# Mar 06 2006 at 11:18 AM Rating: Default
It would appear upon entering the zone that the way to go was by breaking down the wall/door in front of you. If all your going to do is get a quest break down the door, there is enough room around mission giver to do just that.

Once this task is done its best to proceed right or left around hallway of the stronghold killing in there, until you find an open doorway. This will give your puller room in which to break in and do what you came to do.

I tried main entrance on my 67 bard, backed up by group of 70s, one of which was a necro. We had no luck, mobs are just too close together at front doorway.

We traveled to the left as you zone in, took out the wanderers and moved to the second doorway and tagged faded, pulls in. Keep your resists up, as about half the mobs that were encountered by my bard responded to tags with a tendon slice/snare.

Needless to say track showed all red to my bard. The rest of the group said I was not missing much, as most of the mobs in there that they could see were red, with a few yellows mixed in.

Fun zone!!!
I do so wanna go back!

Welcome back to the days of Vellious

Each race that takes control is on it's own faction.
You must kill mobs in Devistation to raise this faction.

The zone in from Devistation is blocked by a gate which must be destroyed. once you zone in, you are in a tunnel in the stronghold wall. You can break down further gates to get inside.

There is a non kos NPC just infront of the gate that is infront of you when you zone in. He is a task/mission NPC but you need faction with that race. This NPC is of the race who controls the stonghold currently, so there are several different names for the same type quest NPC, reports are that he is in the same spot no matter who controls Sverag.

Its more reminicent of Luclin. But unstead of just 2 races battling for an area, you have a dozen or more. By forcing one race to dominate in Devastation you can dictate which race has control of Rage.
