Befallen was once the site of a wonderful temple, a reclusive home for the monks who maintained it.

Many blame the dark elves for what it has become, but whatever the cause, Befallen is now a home to the undead its inhabitants used to hunt and destroy. Individuals who thrive on these beings have also taken up residence in its halls, necromancers and shadow knights.

Various keys are (were) obtained and required to move to the lower levels of this zone.

This zone is often ignored by groups seeking XP becuase it never was an easy zone. Many adds, decent respawn times. Too many times I was in a solid group just xping away when all of a sudden we found ourselves over whelmed. One of the greatest dungeons ever though. Gotta be on your A game.

Four years ago no one went there. I bet I could go there today for six hours and see no one. It is kind of a shame, because I think some of these old "forgotten" zones could have some good revamping done with minimal effort by SOE. (Rather than continually add new zones - work on adding some things to the older zones.)

Just a passing thought.

That would have been 2005. On Stromm, in 05, Befallen still had groups going to it. Just sayin'.

OTOH, in 2013, a lot of these zones are ghost towns unless they're a hotzone or someone is running an instance or they do one of those temporary revamps.

It's funny, this used to be the beaten path, now, it's off the beaten path.

Please don't encourage SoE to ***** up or ***** with any more old zones. They've done enough damage already. Let things be the way they were so that those of us who want to come back and visit them will see them just as they were at the beginning.

I could not possibly agree more. Leave old content alone!

This zone was packed in 1999 - 2000 and it was really fun. I was a Necromancer and this was one of the few places early on that I could make use of some of my undead only spells.

I remember it being fairly hard as well but what wasn't in 1999 when everyone was new and game knowledge was at a premium way before you could go to many sites and learn things... you had to play the game.

Befallen is apparently broken...

I went in there with a new character just now, and the second SK is not spawning. So no second key, and no way to open the door to the third SK.

Look at what you typed. You went into a zone rated for lvl 5-20 with a lvl 28 toon and you're suprised when you didn't get good loot? Give me a break here.

Keep killing the skeletal excavators and checking the wall with the glowing skulls on it. Once you have killed enough, a ghost will appear there (I think it is invis like shadowed men, so all you will see is a name in the air) and he will give you quest and ghostly bridle. You only get I think, two uses out of it before it poofs, though, and it doesn't run fast at all, so really only good if you want a screenshot of yourself on a horse if you can't afford to buy a real one. :-/

Unfortunately you will have to either be ported out or wait for someone to open the door. Nasty to zone to be stuck in but the lure of the 13% xp boost is very seductive.

Alternatively, die next to the door on the first floor and you can use /corpse to pull your body through it. It's an extreme measure (often you'll find a Rogue practicing Lockpicking in the zone), but it's better than being stuck there forever :).
Zeek??

I was in Befallen last night on the FV server. I saw a pally looking guy named Zeek on the first floor he con'd red to my level 19 Iksar Necro. Does anyone know what his purpose is? I would have hailed me however the message when con'd stated Scowls at you.

I'm on Saryrn and had a group of four 13-16 lvl clowns running around here. Musta been wandering around for 20-30 min, killed Llrod twice and never saw SK. If server has gone back to undead, do the SK's still pop?

I'm trying to catch up on my quest items to get ready for my epic. Does the wand still drop? I've wasted quite a few of experience lacking hours waiting for it. I'm getting tired of killing greenies and don't want to wait around if Amiaz will never pop.

yes, the wand still drops...I have camped befallen several times since last post looking for quest items and junk. The same mobs still spawn, and the same stuff still drops, it's just that the zone is never camped, so the spawn rate for these clowns is nil...I've run through the zone and cleared the entire place waiting for SKs to pop for keys and necros to pop for wands and still waited hours for the spawn. It's a test of patience, my friend, but they do still spawn
The Story
# Dec 30 2002 at 7:25 PM Rating: Excellent
Ok, first of all, Befallen is the ancient ruins of the Great Elven city of Takish Hiz. How do I know this? Well just go around EQ asking hundreds of NPCs dozens of general questions, and you eventually learn some lore. (Aside from the lore that is given in quest speeches, or written in books, etc.). The zone itself is a the only portion of the palace of Takish Hiz left over from Solusek Ro's destruction of the Elddar Forest on Tunaria (Now called Antonica), when the elves fled to Faydwer to make their new homes there.

This whole thing with the dark elves was a series of off and on game events that had something to do with an immortal chick that spawns at the VERY bottom of the zone. I was there once during the dark elf occupation on a guild raid, and we just couldnt get her to die, even with ten or so 40+'s killing her. She didn't fight back, but now no longer spawns, I am assuming she was the central portion of the reason the dark elves occupied the zone (some kind of quest).

The zone was originally even lower level. There never used to be those excavators or even the necromancers. Back just over four years ago, RL, when I first started eq, (just after beta) the zone was even more deserted. There were only skellies, sk's, and rats, with the odd appearance of Commander Windstream, and the Ignot of the Ardent gnome guy for the cleric quest...

But sometime between then and now they upped the mob count in the zone a bit, and added the dark elves occupying it every now and then. (Which made it a very deadly zone, having a ton of little harm touch bandits running around).

Even more recently though they added the excavators, the cracked skeletons, the burnt ones, and the Bridle quest which gets you a lore no drop bridle that summons a horse, and YES that quest DOES work, if you do it right. (do the token quest first, then do the bridle quest).

-----------------------

There are still other remains of the old city of Takish Hiz scattered all over Eastern Antonica... take a look at the desert of Ro, which used to be the heart of the elven population at one time, before Solusek desertified it. See all those little towers and pinnacles? There is alot more going on than first meets the eye, once you delve into the Norrathian History books, you can find alot of neat stuff (/ooc Yes I know its just a game, but there is lots of story behind some of it, which makes it more fun to some people, so please save your flames)..

Anywho, I'm still trying to figure out the significance of the Spectre Island, and whether or not that structure has much to do with the lost city or not....

Bye for now!

Actually, after the DEs were removed it used to be a good low-level dungeon until the recent change which put necros everywhere and raised the level of many of the skellies; they used to be a relatively rare spawn, but now it's hard to fight any dark-blue mob without some green-con necro healing it, and even green necros can be a pain to kill with their DoT spells.

Doesn't help, of course, that the level range now overlaps with Paludal, where you'll get better XP.

This is a quest so u can get a 1 charget lore item no drop horse that runs at the speed of jboots.....

ok go to befallen where it starts and on the first level where the skulls have light coming from there eyes a skelentional foreman spawns there after u kill him a ghost (his name Sir Arname Arcane)will spawn (kinda like a mage airpet) Hail him he will tell u some story (sorry forgot what he says) then u must type THIS EXCATALLY "I sense a deep pain within you, ghost is there some way i might assist you so you may find eternal rest?"

after that he'll say moer text

and then type "i will perform any task that will cleanse this place"

He'll give u more text that says "Take this to the [Kights of trooth| or [The Dead] which ever city u can enter...

As the sexy troll that i am =) i said "I will take it to The Dead" ...... He gives u a note and ghostly birdle that is a no drop no rent lore item that has 1 charge of summon horse on it

and he'll give u some text telling u to take it to Xon (forgot last name) he's in the necro dark elf guild con dubious to me and i still could do it... well u hand the note and the birdle to him and u get a No drop Lore Birdle of Sir Arname Arcane.. that has 1 charge of summun horse (jboot speed)... Not bad if u want to try out the horse and don't feel like spending 8k or 17 aa points =) just may oppion

Can anyone else confirm that this is an actual quest and you can get a bridle from the ghost?

It's just kind of hard to beleive that a quest would involve having to type:

"I sense a deep pain within you, ghost is there some way i might assist you so you may find eternal rest?"

How in the world could you have possibly figured that out?

Yes, it is a real quest, and I did get the bridle: I think the text came from the paper role-playing game, or a strategy guide.

Kind of sad, though, as someone was camping the mobs for three hours, didn't get the quest guy to spawn, they logged, and the quest guy spawned a few minutes later... at least it saved me having to camp them for hours :).
New Skeletons
# Aug 19 2002 at 4:48 PM Rating: Decent
The new skeletons are part of a new quest on the first level. go into the main room on the first level on the back wall where the glowing skulls are will be the skeleton foreman. Kill him then a new NPC character by the name Sir Arname Arcane (not sure if that is the exact spelling or not) will pop hail him he will give you a story of what the undead are up too in Befallen.

Sorry to break it to you, but all the pristine stuff only dropped when befallen was changed to the 'hard' version at the end off last year. Since befallen has reverted back to the 'easy' version, none of this stuff drops now.

This zone is totally devoid of Players most of the time on some servers. Grab all the mid teens waiting to get into the Highpass orc group and come on down here, crowd control is much easier despite the fact that it is a dungeon.

If your group gets wiped beyond door 3, drop down the well by Lrodd to get to corpses (invis and invis undead on the person CRing the corpse with the keys is the best way to go)

Don't stick in the area beyond lock B, pull to the larger rooms beyond the T junction that splits between the ogre and human SKs. This way if you get wiped by the Ogre SK, you only have to kill the 1st SK to get the key to get back (easily doable on spells alone by any semi-competent 15th level caster).

Ogre Players will not fit beyond the rock in the corridor leading to the Ogre and Human SKs.

Watch out for the pits in the Human SK room. Be very careful there. Pull via spell or ranged weapon, not via run up and melee.

Have a cleric in your group. Clerics, Necros and SKs are much more powerful in here than anywhere else.

Druids are much weaker here than anywhere else.

Its advisable to keep at least 1 set of spare keys in the bank, and at least two players in any group should have keys (everyone should have keys really).

Safe for 31 paladin?
# Apr 15 2002 at 10:35 PM Rating: Decent
Would it be safe for a lvl 31 paladin to solo most of the dungeon? I'm assuming a few of the new named mobs on the bottom floor would be too high, but what about the rest of the dungeon?
