NOTE: This zone and the West Commonlands zone were revamped and merged into one zone: Commonlands.

Full of wandering animals and orcs, two guard stations, inns, vendors, and the watchful eye of Sergeant Slate, this area is a popular destination for lower level players. Just beware of occasional griffin passing through.

Just recently started playing EQ2, mostly soloing since I'm busier now and don't know anyone in-game... I was just thinking of this zone and came here to look at screenshots. I remember around 1999-2000 this zone had every orc group camped with a waiting list, there were noob bodies lying around, and the 'tunnel' was filled with people socializing and auctioning. I had a lot of RL friends playing and I made lots of real friends online. It's just not the same anymore. Especially since I recently went back on a trial account and it's a complete ghost town now.

You do realize that the trial account is not on live right? It isn't the same but the trial doesn't do it justice either.

I (level 30 bard) was in EC today on my way to do the Befallen mission, and I got gacked by a tier'del scout. The people joining me for the mission all got killed too. So one of my guildies took his level 65 epic rogue in there and some of them conned white to him. Not to mention they are invisable untill they attack you. The scouts are rogue, but there is a generall out there too, and he is an SK, because he harm touched one of my group mates for over 1100 points. So beware guys, these guys hit hard and hit fast. But as far as I could tell they don't see through invis. They are also in West commonlands. I think that these are very pour additions to a newbie zone.

I have a level 10 human wiz and i just can't seem to get any exp from anything. I've tried grouping and camping orcs. I've taken out bears, cats, seletons, zombies, and giant rattlesnakes but i still am not getting any exp. Can you help me figure out what to do?

I have a lvl 11 chanter that I take here often and every lvl from 5-11 has been acheived in this zone. I get into 6 people groups and we go to one of the orc camps and we level very rapidly. I havn't had any problems with getting exp. in this zone.

Right click on the mob you are planning to kill. If the message you get comes back in green text, you will get no exp. Look for messages in light blue, dark blue, or white text. Yellow text means the creature is slightly higher level than you, andwill be tough to kill. Red text typically means leave it alone.

Having said that, the orcs should give experience at level 10, unless you are killing orc pawns. Also, willowwisps and darkweed snakes should still be good exp.

# Oct 16 2004 at 3:01 PM Rating: Decent
At lvl 10 you should be getting exp at the orc camps. Make sure that the people your grouping with fall within your level range. I think a lvl 6 would be the lowest to group with you at lvl 10. And yeah don't kill orc panws, kill the orc centurions and oracles that spawn in the tents. If your soloing, try the young kodiaks that wander and the lions, not lionesses.

Doesn't everyone remeber back in the good old days when all the trading took place in EC (no not echo caverns) those were the good old days when youd have upwards of 200peeps auction everything from spells to the uber gear of the time(which is no longer that uber) ahh we are so lucky to have the bazaar now it makes everything so damn easy well just wanted to bring back old memories

... and many years later, those were still the good old days. Little did we know (or maybe we sorta did) that the implementation of the Bazaar with the Luclin expansion would be the beginning of the end of classic EQ. There was something very cool about zoning into EC (on my Compaq 512mhz desktop with 64mb RAM) and taking longer to zone in because there were over 200 people in the zone! Once I was finally in, the chat screen would light up like I'd never seen before (or since) with green spam, both /auction and /ooc... so much activity, it was like a huge party all the time.

Wow, what great memories! Wish I had a time machine... good times.

Skeletal pirates, or is it a GM event on terris-thule?

sorry, it must have been a gm event, went back a few days later and no mobs

Shadeweavers is good, if you can handle the laggy graphics. If not, the old standard is dervs in north ro til about 13 or so, then Oasis of marr in orc alley, or hunting gators

Somewhere around 16 or so, head to paludal caverns, the experience there is the best in the game I have experienced.

I remember the days when you could come to EC and get all the buffs you wanted at the tunnel to NRO (not to mention that /y would always get someones attention)...ahhh...those were the days. Started an alt the other day and was hunting here... EC has lost it's feel...

Oh well, memories... Can't complain too much, Bazaar is too awesome (thank god prices are reasonable now)

Well, as far as the buffs go, PoP lets you zip up to PoK for buffs, from EFP, then back down, and you can pick up some pretty good buffs in PoK, from the folks waiting to head into the PoP planes.

There are some guards now that spawn it what used to be abandoned huts near Nektulos Forest (not sure if I spelled that right). One of them drops an item called Shana's Necklace. Anyone know what this is for? btw guards are easy kills. They Conned green to a 26 Paladin.

i think the orc camps are the best place to fight.im lvl 9 and i amc doin fine.im a druid wood elf. i went there when i was lvl 7. you dont need a big group to whipe out all the orc there though if you are lvl 7 some will be red and some cast.if you are below lvl 10 you should have a group with you. the chief will probaly be red to you. you should stay a distanse away from the camp so they all dont go agro on you if you sit down.you dont need to go to far away from it. you can get pretty close.you can hunt solo almost everywhere.the orcs get you better faction with the good races and money to. i think the orcs are the best mob to kill because you get better faction, money , and good exp all in one. if your a low lvl you should fight next to the fp zone.if you are a good race i you anything is gould but if your looking for money i suggest you kill orcs and willowhisps. whillowhisps often drop greater lightstones and they sell for pp. another good place to fight is in the sand. you can be as low as lvl 7 (i think) to hunt there. you should be realy carfull you should watch out for griffens they kill almost everything they see. all the mobs in ec are from lvl 1-20.

200pp sounds ok for EC, I personally wouldn't pay that much, but if you find an upper level Rogue that wants it bad enough, 200pp would be ok. Normal going price I've seen on The Nameless is around 100-125pp.

You don't need someone else's eq, you can get your own. This is the best zone in the game for newbies. At your level, you can kill spiderlings for silk, bats for wings and skeles for bone chips. Players will be buy these all the time (especially the silks) and before you know it, you'll have a good chunk of change. Plus you can kill bears and wolves for pelts (a HQ bear pelt can fetch up to 30pp on Saryrn Server, and can be dropped by a black bear, easily killed at lvl 7). Then run in to North Freeport and buy some armour and weapons :)

Happy Hunting!

Get in a Dervs group in WC, should be good there till about 15 - 17, then head to the Oasis, should get fairly far into the 20's there. Then try SK, or LoIO.

At level 5 lots of things in EC will be either green or red. There are black bear appropriate for your level, or puma - if you group. The other option is to head through the tunnel and pick off orc raiders (level 4 or so) in North Ro.

find a couple of friends around your level and head to an orc camp, or you could start fighting young kodies and stuff, either with a small group or just solo...i said with a group becuase i have never played a rogue and don't know how strong they are.....but if you have a small group at the orc camps you will get some good experience i think...but i alwyas liked fighting young kodies becuase they hit hard and fast and it was funner to me....but you choose.....hope this helps some...

Hunting Guide
# Jul 10 2001 at 9:46 PM Rating: Decent
This place has great hunting! Here is my guide:

<Lvl 3-7> Here there is not too great hunting but some skellys if your careful and high enough level, tough they may train, so watch out.

There is also a bear/wolf hunting, and you can sell pelts for some quick cash or learn how to sew.

<Lvl 8-11> If you are level 8 you should stick to big, higher level orc groups for orc hunting. A level 8 orc group will eventually get wiped out by leggos.

9-11 has great orc hunting and can group.
There is also wisp hunting and their loot is GREAT! but for 11 they can be a little bit of a challenge without root or a pet, but at 10 and 11 you can solo wisps for greater lightstones.

<Lvl 12> There is really not much to solo except the orc on the hill at orc 1, and some Kodiaks.

NOTHING EXCEPT FOR GROUPING TO TAKE ON SHIN REE UNTIL YOU CAN SOLO SHIN.

<Lvl 40+> First off, at this level there is not any real reason to be here, except for griffs

At lvl. 3 I packed up my things and left kaladim for freeport, so I have some experience with the East commons. First off, kudos to "edmunds guide...", it really is excellent. Now, when you finally are ready for the jump from West Freeport to the commons, I suggest you begin with wolves, fire beatles, and spiderlings (those little spiders will mob!). Also, avoid the temptation to take out the sparkley green willowisp (if you haven't already learned this the hard way). As soon as you get to the point where everything before the first two inns is relatively easy for you, follow the wall on the left (coming out of freeport) until you reach the tunnel. The EC tunnel is a common gathering place, and it's best to remember it's direction from wherever you are, as you will surely be running trains there soon!
Now that you have moved past Freeport's zone line, you should be at around lvl six or seven. At this point, I would suggest that you ignore the temptation to group, and just take it solo for a while: find the undead ruins (I suggest you don't go to close to them). Now memorize the area between the ruins, the tunnel and the forest. This desert will be your hunting ground. Running back and forth between these, find pumas and skeletons, but be careful to only get lone skellys! They will mob! While you do this, you should glance occasionally into the wooded area, if you see a black bear, con it and kill it--HQ pelts auction for 30pp (I've seen them go for fourty on the Nameless server). Ignore those pesky little bixies as well. They tend to get right up in your face, but they're not aggro, and killing them lowers your faction with "good" races. Continue to keep to this area until you reach Lvl nine.
At level nine, you're ready to find a group and camp the orc (i believe the plural of orc is orc--kinda like how the plural of sheep is sheep--"orcs" just doesn't sound right). You can go about doing this a number of ways, but it's best to just shout it (e.g. /shout Lvl. 9 Warrior LFG). After getting your group (or if you don't fear lions, before you get your group), head out to Orc1. You can find this by going to the freeport zone line, and following the wall on the right. Once you reach Orc1, if you're a tank, I highly suggest you continue following the same wall, until you reach Orc2, and then try and find the inn between the two orc camps---the merchant sells longbows and arrows (i can't imagine pulling without them). Now if it's open, go to Orc2 and get a full group if possible. Make sure you stay well away from the camp until you get at least four people in your group--when you first get there is when you need the most people, as the orc have had time to spawn. This is my camping suggestion, and if people would follow this, the whole process would go more smoothly: THE TANK ALWAYS PULLS!! I've been in many a group in which the wizard casts as soon as something spawns, so everything aggroes on him--you want things to aggro on the strongest character! Orc camping is going to be the major experience gainer in EC. You can at least get to twelve from camping orc.
At twelve, if you like, you can get in a small group (or just get a pally to partner with--anything that'll cure disease) and go to the undead ruins to get some revenge for all of the pain you were caused when you were just tryin' to kill some puma :). Just make sure you have something to cure you of rabies! However, if you don't want to play with the zombies, I suggest you go to the West Commons after level eleven---grouping with a pally you can at least get through the first floor of Befallen (just watch out for Skeleton Lrodd!).
Hope I could help! May Brell Serelis grant you strength!!!

two or three levels ago. Although I recommend North ro instead for someone your level. get in a Derv group, or hunt the desert tarans and Giant Scarabs. BTW Scarabs usually con higher than taran,s but seem to kill you less, unless you've got good poison resist gear. Also, madmen are good for this level, but watch out for the ones that cast spells, they're much harder.
