Perched atop the material and astral worlds on clouds of vapor is the Plane of Air, a floating collection of majestic islands under the peaceful dominion of Xegony, the Queen of Air. The entire plane is a manifestation of Xegony's idyllic beauty.

The four floating isles that make up the Plane of Air are places of worship and study. On each island is built a main castle guarded by the most intelligent and battle-skilled beings in her service. It is no surprise that what lay behind the walls of these structures is a complete mystery. It is postulated that the wisest of Xegony's creations conduct their studies in complete peace within these castles, but no reliable record can confirm such speculation.

For information about accessing Xegony's isle and the Avatar events, see this quest entry.

Level 60 is required to enter the zone without a flag on the live servers.

Took a 4-box group in here, Enchanter, Bard, Paladin, Druid. Paladin Anguish geared. Most things aren't mezzable but they are slowable. Stuff has a short follow distance so with bard speed you can usually outrun it and it'll forget you. Not worth hunting in normally, but if you need your fragment of air or some other item for a quest, it's far from impossible to get, just a pain in the butt.

Was at the zone in entrance in PoTranquility and said to the bird 'Travel to Plane of Air' and even at level 65 (which is the appropriate HOTZONE level range) the bird says something along the lines that I am not needed in this zone; so I'm not granted access...

Do not go here. This has to be a Sony joke. The mobs have tons of HP, give crappy exp, and spawn adds when they die. You'll probably get swarmed when you zone in from the spawns that others left behind when they left this hellhole.

I am going to have to agree on this one! Went in with a 71 sk, 65 clr, and 64 dru, plus caster merc, rogue merc, tank merc. None of us got out alive.

The mob of the day was "scholars" and there were none of these at the zone in area...just a bunch of "castellan of air." Handled one at a time, but two at a time got rough (lost tank merc). Upon mob death, two (I think?) grey mobs spawned. These died quickly thanks to 392 hp mage ds. Then we got a namer (Imlokher) which killed the druid. By the time we finished the namer off we had 2 more castellan adds and the cleric died. I managed to FD and was able to loot the namer, which dropped Symbol of the swirling maelstrom, a blue diamond, and a glyphed rune word. However I got rushed again and had to FD. When it was "safe" to stand up, I got up and cast origin, but again I was rushed and this time I wasn't able to FD before I was killed.

Needless to say I won't be going back here without some high level help!

It's not as tough as it used to be. New gear/spells have really leveled the playing field. In the old days this was one of my most hated zones. Went in solo as a 70 Shaman. Pet and I were fully buffed in the GH, we had the works. Entry area mobs were okay. If you do it right you only get two at a time and between my dots and panther on the pooch they down easily. The airspirits they spawned were annoying but that was all. The main thing was to keep my pet healed and make sure he was taunting. Farther up at "the crossroads" the mobs were dark blue to me and could still take them two at a time but had to rely on the pet for dps as even slowed all I really had time to do was hot him then spam heals., Gave it up when I pulled two then got two wanderers as adds, all db to me. Tried to keep it going but I was losing ground so while my pet still had agro I hit the gate button. Went back in with my tank merc and soloed most of the lower areas of the zone without a problem. Only tough mobs were the Phoenixes. After two pulls on them all the buffs were stripped from the tank and all he had were shammy buffs from there on in. Still, we did okay. Took down Baltaldor The Cursed. and cranked out a ton of aa's. Had garden variety gear, Defiant, Teek quest etc.. Def a doable zone now with modern gear and buffs.

The zone in area can be problem. As a Rogue, I just bypass it, but some other classes have to fight your way in.
It is not too bad after that point!

here is a pretty nice guide on the ring events in this zone:

http://www.guildseofon.com/airrings.html

you need to do each of the 4 ring events (Avatars) once, to make your key to port up to Xegony.

the quest to make Xegony's key from the 4 Avatars can be viewed here: https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=3021

PoGrowth is on Velious through the Wakening Lands. Take the Great Divide stone to the Eastern Wastes then go through Kael Drakkel to get to WL. Port in to PoG is on pot of a tower in the middle of a lake in WL.

I tried clearing out the yard to get to the tunnel.

Two Castellans, np. But the 5 Vengeful Airspirits wooped my CLR. And since I was fighting at zone in, killed me again when I zoned back in.

Solution?

Line up my CLR with the tunnel.
Have my SK train the Castellans out of the travel path.

Ran my CLR in, and then Sk comes back, and FD just inside the tunnel.

Boxing 71 SK, 70 CLR.

Temple Guardian came down to visit me while I was recovering from first res.
Cleared path, ran in.

I have to agree that the front mobs are more of a pain then anything else in there. The 1st raid mob you come to seemed easier then them fronties & their annoying 2-4 spawn grey add's. ~70 paladin / 72 BST & 66 warrior wolfie *box*~ Since they eat your mana I just kept killing my in I left my BST on her mount to keep enough mana to nuke the lil bastards. I always clear the right side in (2, 1, 1, 2 pulls) and once your past them its cake. GL Peeps!

This is the worst design ever. Makes almost every class except cleric/warrior absolutely useless. Before you go in here, you should know:

1) Everything sees invis.
2) Everything runs fast.
3) Almost everything is unmezzable
4) Everything I've seen is uncharmable.
5) Everything summons.
6) Lots of stuff summons at 100%. Yes, before you even hit it.
7) Almost everything is unlullable.
8) Everything hits fast, and pretty hard. Made mincemeat out of a group of 75s just going for some 1.5 drops.
9) I forgot: everything I've seen is unsnarable/unrootable.

As a chanter, as soon as you do anything in this zone, you're dead. You're better off deleting your character than thinking about going here. And at 75 with 500 AAs and 11k hps, it's highly frustrating.

As a ranger I was able to skirt the edge of the first island where you zone in with sneak and not aggro a single mob. After that, I dunno what to do but fight the rest to get anywhere. All the mobs at zone in see invis so sneak was the way to go. Was working on the binden concertina quest and needed a living fragment of air from this zone.

The first time I tried to get to the tunnel, I didn't try sneak. I killed a number of the irritating Castellan of Air in a brute force attempt to plow to the tunnel exiting the zone in area. (The Castellan of Air spawn one, two or maybe three grey to 75 Vengeful Airspirits on the death of the Castellan of Air. The VA's then go on to suck your mana dry if you don't kill them really fast). I sucessfully solo'd a few of them as singles with mild difficulty, and a double with moderate difficulty, mostly because of the mana drain and prolonged medding up from as low as 10% mana. As I came to the archway which leads out of the zone in area, I had another unavoidable double pull (apparently most things here can not be Drifting Fog'd Rk II (like harmony, or lull)). I died to this double pull, and ran back asap before repops. Then I discovered that the next pull to get past the arch would be another double, this time with a named (Constable Alranderisen). At which point sneaking seemed like a good idea. I sneaked past the arch okay, and down the tunnel. The next mobs encountered were in what looked like a large room from the map, a pair of 'A Nilborien Servants', who appeared to be guarding 'Baltaldor The Cursed', who is flagged as a raid mob. At this point I decided to hang out in the tunnel where there are usually no mobs. And as luck would have it, 'A Temple Guardian' roamed down the tunnel as EqBud posted under 'A living fragment of air'. Easy solo for the Temple Guardian. Now I am waiting for the second one to come by. And from tracking it would seem that repops here are painfully slow. So if you are looking for a living fragment of air, good luck. It could be a long camp.

I gave thought to using Hail of Arrows to get summoned elsewhere, (which works pretty good through walls (but not between floors) in Ssraeshza Temple), but Xenogy by tracking is right below or above this tunnel, so that may not be a good idea. I have never been able to shadow step off of a level, only to another part of the same level using my Boots of Shadow Walking, so don't see that helping me. At this point the only way to get past this tunnel would seem to be by 1) a raid as suggested by others, 2) a really good group, 3) extreme luck in ranger sneaking, 4) shrouding to a gobby rogue or kobold rogue, but shrouded DPS/AC/survivability solo is pretty sucky solo on greens,so i don't see this helping except for the possibility of exploring, 5) coming back repeatedly and hoping that the Baltaidor the Cursed is killed by the rare raid here and fighting my way past his room in his absence. If anyone has any ideas on getting to the air mephits, I am open to suggestions.

I got my Living Fragment of Air, but by luck, as I happened on a group of ubers (daybringers and their boxes) going for a BL 2.0 drop. We almost wiped at the zone in when Inlokher the Warlord popped on killing a zone in Castellan of Air. I got knocked back by him (shadow step proc?) didn't get adds from that by luck. I don't think any of us were expecting this to happen. Then we cleared to the BL mob pretty deep into the zone. We killed about ten or so mephits enroute to their phoenix model mob, and the last mephit we killed dropped the Living Fragment of Air. So all in all, I got really lucky.

Before I got lucky, I tried the gobby shroud, and surprise, surprise, the mobs there all saw through gobby sneak/hide face on, but not when sneaking/hiding from behind. So that isn't any better than the ranger sneak.

My next plan of attack was to do it by brute force with a twist. The zone in mobs are super slow respawners. At least an hour or more it seems. I was going to fully clear the zone in area, and zone out after killing a Castellan of air, or if I was getting low on hp's. The Vengeful Airspirits despawn after a time, so why deal with them anyway? Then just repeatedly pull the first big room to the zone in, which would seemingly always get two mobs on the first pull, kill one, and zone out. Come back for a single and repeat. There are two Mephits in the first big room after zone in, and those mobs have a much shorter repop time. That way with the wanderer (at least one, maybe two), I would get six or more mephit kills before the zone in repopped. That was the plan, but not needed now. And the raid mob in that room may be broken, (or is it a feature?) in that he doesn't aggro by proximity, even when right next to him, at least that was the case for me at whatever time of day I was there.

So, overall not an easy zone solo, or even as a group of ubers, and Living Fragment of Air is not easy to get, but it is doable. I hope I gave you some ideas for things to try.

Fire and Earth have some common named spawns that you can camp with a single group from the zone in.
It looks like Inlokher the Warlord (spawns when a random Castellan of Air dies) is one of the Air versions, are there any others?

Zone in is tough for a single exp group. You have to split caster mobs, should be done by an FD puller, then you have issues with the roamers. We never ventured passed the first set of doors to get to the tunnel mobs. More to follow...
